A new beginning! Nana Mizuki's new disc "Garden of Eden" release interview
Nana Mizuki's 31st single disc, which is also her opening work "Garden of Eden" brought by her in the 2015 New Year, has been officially released. This disc contains a total of 4 songs, all of which are high-quality, high-level songs. Let's hear what Nana Mizuki thinks about this disc.
- The cover photo of "Garden of Eden" seems to have been taken at dawn, right?
Mizuki: At 3 a.m., Kujukuri (on the east bank of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture) was ready. Based on the impression of the song, we wanted to take a photo with the sunrise as the background. It was the feeling that when the sky first brightened, my hair and clothes were still stained with night dew. As a result, the photo that was selected as the cover was taken at the beginning of the test shoot.
- It's not exactly dawn yet.
Mizuki: The sunrise is only a few minutes, so we wanted to decide on the composition before the sun shines! So I made all kinds of tentative shooting. Because it was just a test shot, my hair didn't get wet. It turned out to be a very good test shot, so I decided to include this one as an alternative! There were a lot of good photos I took with the sunrise in the background, and it was really nerve-wracking to choose which one to choose. It was at this time that I decided on the title of the song "Garden of Eden".
- Something like "Ideal Township".
Water Trees: A wonderful combination of night and early morning views can be seen in the pre-sunrise photos. It is precisely because you can't see the surrounding scenery clearly that it makes people more and more reverie. This incredible feeling is very much in line with the fantasy style of Eden...... So in the end, I decided to use this one as a cover. It's a spectacle of wonder where the weather and time zones are just right.
INTERVIEWER Speaking of song titles, including "Garden of Eden", the titles of each of the three songs you wrote the lyrics for this time are words that can't be found in the lyrics. You seem to be like this a lot.
Mizuki: I wanted the title of the song to evoke a lot of associations with the listener, so I deliberately used words that were not in the lyrics. Choose words that are easy to remember and simple to overlook the whole story. "Garden of Eden" actually wanted to use the name "Blue and White" at first, but let's keep it in the lyrics...... I hesitated until the end, and it wasn't until everyone was urging me to "it's too late if I don't decide today", and this is it! I rarely use three katakana as song titles.
- One of the additional songs is the ED song "The Love Song of the End (original name: 終末のラブソング)" in the later part of "CROSSANGE Angel and Dragon Wheel Dance...... But is this really a love song? (laughs).
Mizuki: It's kind of a love song (laughs), but it has a sense of killing. In fact, the producer of "CROSSANGE's Angel and Dragon's Wheel Dance" made a request at the time to "use love as the theme". I don't want to interpret love too straightforwardly, so I wrote about the protagonist Angel's mood that can't be handled in ordinary ways, unexpectedly frank, and the weak side that seems to pursue love.
- In the song, it is sung that "even at the end of the earth, when you see the end, you will not let go of that hand."
Mizuki: If she hadn't been forced to the end of the world, Angel wouldn't have been honest about her heart (laughs). What's more, she doesn't express her feelings related to love at all, so the meaning of the song title is actually "the last song of love sung" In the second half of "CROSSANGE Angel and Dragon Wheel Dance", there will be a battle related to the fate of the whole world.
- Rock and roll music with Japanese lyrics, this is what you are good at.
Mizuki: You've won the prize. However, I like Zephyr's choice of words and sentences. The opportunity was to write the theme song "WILDEYES" of "Koga Ninja Script", and I bought a lot of dictionaries and books on ancient Chinese terms, and then I became addicted to it. Looking back, I actually joined a 100-member one-song club when I was in elementary school (laughs). Although I don't have the opportunity to use them in my daily life, I don't have the opportunity to use them in my daily life, but in fact there are many beautiful and esoteric Japanese languages. Personally, I like to use beautiful feminine language.
- For example, the "nameless star twinkling in the mystery" in "Love Song of the End"?
Mizuki: I really like the beauty that lies in the depths of words. "CROSSANGE ANGEL AND DRAGON WHEEL DANCE" NOT ONLY PORTRAYS THE POWERFUL SIDE OF FIGHTING WOMEN, BUT ALSO HAS DREAMY, WEAK AND SHINY PARTS. I think there is something in common between the two in this regard......
INTERVIEWER It's amazing to be able to blend rock and Japanese language in the lyrics.
Mizuki: I can hear the feeling of the Japanese breeze from the song. Although the arrangement is very rock, the melody is ballad-like. Therefore, instead of popular language and English, it is more comfortable to use elegant language for concerts.
- This is the first time I've seen the word "thunderbolt" other than "thunderbolt on a sunny day".
Mizuki: The word itself has the meaning of "thunder", and "thunderbolt of dreams" may not be used very often, but I think it could be written in the lyrics.
- Because you have written many songs such as "Pure Rhetorical Question" (original name: 純潔パラドックス), are you proficient in Japanese rock?
Mizuki: These songs have given me a lot of experience. I still remember the painful experience I had when I wrote "WILDEYES" (laughs). I like this worldview very much and want to cherish it in the future.
- The heart-rending pain can be felt in this song.
Mizuki: Singing the mood of Angel played by me really makes me very involved in the play. She has been betrayed by trusted people many times, trying to climb out of a state where she doesn't know how to be good, and desperately struggling. I could feel her wanting to grasp the unseen light, to move forward regardless of the odds, not to succumb to the darkness of her heart and the fragility of chasing love.
- The OP song "NoLimit" in the third season of the "DOGDAYS" series continues the heroic style of the second part, and there are many exaggerated melodies.
Mizuki: It's a lot bigger (laughs). Bells have been added like in Season 1, and fantasy strings have been added like in Season 2, but electronic elements have been added to give listeners a more grand view of the world. There is a feeling of brave people and their partners galloping in the sky.
- There is a sentence in the lyrics that reads, "Do you hear the fetal movement of the creation of the zào era?" ”…… So do you hear that?
Mizuki: It's a shame I didn't hear it (laughs). I wrote it with the fantasy that I wanted to hear it. After the scale gradually expands to "the resonance of the universe level", what other words with a grand aura...... Originally, I wanted to use the phrase "new world fetal movement", but some people say that "SINPASHII" and "new world (SINSEKAI)" both start with the sound of "SIN". So I rethought it and finally came up with the term "create the zào era". This is handed down from the history of Byzantium BC.
- How did you come to know this?
Mizuki: I love ancient civilizations and mythology, and I've read a lot of books about it. The word was seen in it.
- The lyrics are a bit shonen-like.
Mizuki: Because the protagonist is a 13-year-old boy. Run forward with all your might! Never look back! I want to be part of that passion. "DOGDAYS" is an adventure story about traveling to the world of Flonild during the summer and winter vacations. Every time it's time for a long vacation, not only children but also adults are very excited, isn't it? That's what I want to express.
- You play Nanami, the real red cousin in the play, right?
Mizuki: She is 1 year older than Mahong and is studying in the UK. It's been a very active season. Even though she can't use magic in the real world, her physical abilities are outstanding and very powerful. No matter what strong enemy you encounter, you will be the first to stand up and challenge. She played her very happily. I love strong characters. It's not about being protected, it's about protecting others (laughs).
INTERVIEWER The lyricist of the interlude "Necessary" from "Crossange's Angel and Dragon's Wheel Dance" is Goro Matsui, did you learn anything from the seniors?
Mizuki: I've learned so much. This time, the lyrics are a combination of phrases that seem to be connected and don't...... Very incredible format, different listeners can imagine different pictures from it, and stimulate the imagination. And it's all made up of very simple everyday phrases. The lyrics in the everyday style are actually the hardest to write, and I have a hard time fighting every time. Fantasy words and idiosyncratic phrases are easy to impress, and if you don't use them, you need to have a good degree of coordination...... And the lyrics and melody are also very well combined.
INTERVIEWER What kind of picture do you see?
Mizuki: Needless to say, the picture in "Crossange Angel and Dragon Wheel Dance" also has the sour and sweet purity of first love. The image of a pure and lovely girl leaning against her beloved emerges, shining like crystal.
-- The single disc was released along with the release of a DVD of the concert, which included last year's performance at Yokohama Stadium. Your skirt is so short in the cover picture of this disc.
Mizuki: yes. I was wearing a tight-fitting dress, and I was raising the corners of the skirt higher (laughs). I almost crossed the line, but that's not what I meant (laughs). I wore sexy outfits on the "LIVEFLIGHT" tour last year, so it makes sense...... I'm joking (laughs).
INTERVIEWER The Yokohama Stadium concert and the spectacular air show were a concert full of happiness.
Mizuki: Last year's tour was very special for me. You can stand on the stage on the last day smoothly and feel the joy of being able to sing again. In fact, because there was a malfunction of the plane that day, there was a possibility that the performance of the plane would be aborted. However, thanks to the staff who did their best to do their best, the show was able to go smoothly. I felt the importance of teamwork, and I sang 27 songs with all my heart and happiness of being able to meet everyone. It is filled with the feeling of cherishing every moment.
- Bonus images will include your parody performances at each venue. Do you feel confident in those performances?
Mizuki: None of them have confidence (laughs). Because except for Misato (Fukuen), they are all men! What Kazuyoshi Morita, Matt Murton (of the Hanshin team). It's very difficult (laughs).
- It seems that there are also historical celebrities.
Mizuki: What Wright brothers, Admiral Perry, I haven't spoken to them at all (laughs), I can only rely on my own imagination. A lot of the time it's a mess. Nothing to do with "FLIGHT". As a result, even these were included, and I was happy and ashamed (laughs).
- Was the shot on the roof in the "Garden of Eden" music video shot from the air?
Mizuki: It just looks like it was taken from the air (laughs), but it was actually taken from a crane. Due to budget issues, I couldn't actually get the helicopter to fly, but I did rent an ARKHills helicopter.
- Is that really snowing?
Mizuki: That's right! It was the day of the first snow in Tokyo. We photographed the interior at our studio in Kawasaki early in the morning, and then it started raining when we moved the location to shoot the night scene. Later, the rain became louder and louder, and it turned into sleet, and finally I couldn't help but look forward to it: "Will it just turn into snow?" "(laughs) We were going to use the machine qì to do artificial snowfall in the studio, but we didn't expect it to snow! Maybe God saw that I was looking forward to the snow and helped me fulfill this wish (laughs).
- You're a sunny girl who has left a lot of legends, and you didn't expect to have the ability to call for snowfall.
Mizuki: However, if it snows all the time, I won't be able to shoot outdoors, so I pray that I'd better stop. As a result, it suddenly stopped while I was touching up my makeup and waiting to continue shooting. However, only a little snow remains next to the helicopter.
- What a wish it has come true.
Mizuki: The outdoor part was created with CG as a snow effect, but the freshness of the after-snow air was really pleasant. The shooting location was on the roof of the building on the 37th floor, and there were no railings around it, so it was very open.
- That's because you like high places, so you feel comfortable.
Mizuki: It's much more stable than the elevator used at the concert, it doesn't shake, and the space is very wide, so it's not scary at all (laughs). As long as you don't go to the side, you'll be fine. It was the first time I had taken a helicopter on the roof of a building, and it was completely different from the night view I had seen before. It really touched me!
- Does it matter how cold the winter night is?
Mizuki: Yes! I've heard that it's going to be very cold, but luckily I wore a coat and boots, and I put a warm baby on the inside of the clothes, so I put on a warm ** (laughs). However, after a long time, the cold still invaded and made my whole body chill, but the beautiful scenery attracted my attention and made me enthusiastic, so the cold also turned into enjoyment. And it happened to be the day of the Geminid meteor shower.
- You're such a woman who can get anything (laughs).
Mizuki: Even though the lights are bright, I can see it! Normally, the stars can only be seen in total darkness. Maybe it was because it was so far from the ground that the surrounding street lights couldn't shine on it, so I could see the meteor shower with the naked eye.
- Did you make a wish?
Mizuki: The meteor flew away in a flash, and disappeared when I was still "ahh I can only make some simple wishes like "I hope everyone will be happy" (laughs). However, on the day of the shooting, it was a miraculous gathering of many opportunities! I really want to say, "Thank you, God! "It's in line with the title of the song "Garden of Eden".
- Including the cover picture of the sunrise, you are indeed a capable person.
Mizuki: The sunrise photo, which was supposed to be a test shoot, was chosen as the cover photo because it was too good...... There were a lot of coincidences happening this time, and there was a sense of excitement that something new was about to start. This is my 31st single, and I'm really happy to be moving towards a new goal. In terms of music videos, before going to my hometown of Ehime Prefecture to shoot "Forbidden Revolt", it is usually shot indoors, and it is very rare for both the MV and the cover to be shot outdoors. Outdoors you can shoot the air that you can't shoot indoors, and although it's hard to shoot, it's worth the challenge.
INTERVIEWER Aside from work, do you have anything new that you'd like to try lately?
Mizuki: Recently, I've fallen in love with cooking for myself. When I'm busy, I have to eat bento in the studio, and I don't have enough salt and vegetables, so I cook my own food whenever I can go home a little earlier in the evening. I've always wanted to take a cooking class. I used to learn from the landlady of a restaurant I used to frequent.
INTERVIEWER Does the store sell all of its own dishes?
Mizuki: Yes. Not only is it very tasty, but it's also creative. Replace the potatoes in the potato salad with taro, which has a unique and sweet taste like sticky boiled potatoes. It's only a little different, but it's a completely different taste.
INTERVIEWER Do you cook like this?
Mizuki: There are good cooking ideas that I would like to learn from. Basic soup dishes are now available in convenient instant packaging, so seasoning is easy. However, it takes a little experience to use the ingredients, how to mix them, and so on...... Recently, many people around me have got married and had children, and I can find like-minded people who "want to learn more about the variety of dishes". They come to my house to teach me how to cook, and I really want to learn this year.
