Interview with Kana Hanazawa: A challenging day to move forward briskly

Kana Hanazawa's 2015 music first work "Indispensable Without You" (original title: "Jun がいなくちゃだめなんだ") was officially released on the CD on Hanazawa's 26th birthday (February 25), which is the theme song of a live-action movie starring Hanazawa as the heroine. In this live-action film, Hanazawa plays a picture book writer who has been separated from his father since he was a child. This narrative poem, which is refined according to the worldview of the movie, I believe it will definitely add a lot of color to the movie!

Not only that, Hanazawa will also release his third solo album "BlueAvenue" in the spring of recovery, as well as his first concert mecca in Japan, Budokan, and hold his largest all-Japan solo tour ever. Recently, a Japanese media interviewed Hanazawa, please follow us to Tencent Animation to see the interesting facts about her new album and the preparation of the Budokan concert!

First, in order to break their own limits

- After the sixth single "Smile Mode" (original title: "Smile Mode") and the seventh single "River of Sorrow" (original title: "Smile Mode"), I've been looking forward to Hanazawa's new moves. Because your style in both works has changed so much, you can't help but look forward to what you will challenge next time, but I really didn't expect it to be the heroine starring in a live-action movie!

Kana Hanazawa: Hee-hee (laughs), everyone must have been shocked, right?

- It really scares me to appear in a live-action movie, and you haven't been involved in "スッキリ recently!! "The live shooting? I feel like my range of motion is much larger than before. (Note: "スッキリ!!") is a well-known information program on Nippon TV)

Kana Hanazawa: Exactly. I spent five days shooting the film in a row, and I was very busy every day, and I was really relieved after filming (laughs). Last December was super busy, really! When I first heard that I was going to make a movie, I was a little incredulous and thought to myself, "What the hell is this guy talking about?" "When I was told to me, the movie was ready, and I just nodded. The other party threw the script in front of me with a "bang" and said, "Let's start filming!" (laughs).

INTERVIEWER Hanazawa: You've played a variety of roles as a voice actor, and you've had experience in live-action movies before, but it's probably the first time you've been thinking about your acting skills as the heroine of a live-action movie. Besides, although the content of the movie is related to the new single, I don't think it's something that can be agreed to lightly.

Kana Hanazawa: Anyway, discuss it with me before writing the script (laughs)! But after all, making a movie is not something that you can shoot when you want to, although I have made it before, but there are only a few shots...... In addition, challenging new things can push your own limits, and maybe it will bring about some good changes, so I happily agreed to shoot this film.

INTERVIEWER "To break one's own limits" is the result of several years of musical activity.

Kana Hanazawa: I think it's true that as you said, if you were just a voice actor, I don't think I would be able to make a movie. In the past few years of music activities, the idea of "try something different" and "let's take on a challenge" has really strengthened a lot in my heart.

Accompanying staff: A large part of the filming work was carried out by the staff who used to shoot the music video. So far, we have worked together to produce a lot of excellent video works. In fact, the idea of making a strong story has been in my heart for a long time, and this idea is gradually expanding, so this time to start making a movie, it can be said that our wish has finally come true! Mr. Kenji Kurata wrote a good script for us, and Ms. Yuho Iwasato and Mr. Katsu Kitagawa also composed a great theme song based on this script. By the way, we also asked Mr. Kitagawa to produce the original accompaniment for our film. The director and cinematographer were people we knew very well, so I guess I felt a sense of security. However, when it comes to actually working with professional actors and filmmakers, it's actually quite stressful. But once I got into the shoot, I couldn't cringe anymore, so personally, I spent a lot more than usual in the past five days.

Second, I'm looking forward to it

- "Indispensable Without You" is a piece of music composed by Mr. Kitagawa and Ms. Iwasato. Mr. Kitagawa has been supporting you since you started your music career, and Ms. Iwasato has often written the lyrics for you in recent songs, and they are all very familiar to fans. I think this "Indispensable Without You" is a narrative poem with a huge worldview, which you have never seen before.

Kana Hanazawa: It's the first time I've sung a narrative poem in a single, and I didn't start recording until after filming a movie. I was really troubled at the time, and I didn't know how to express the complicated feelings in my heart.

- This narrative poem is very touching to people's inner feelings, and even the title of the song is very powerful.

Kana Hanazawa: This song title is very compatible with the movie, the "you" in "You Are Indispensable" can be substituted for all the characters on the stage, and everyone can feel this song from different angles. Therefore, even after leaving the movie, everyone will definitely be able to miss the "you" in their hearts and relax and listen to this song. Also, this is a song that could be performed a little bit sadder, but I think it would be better to leave people with hope in the end, and I recorded this song with that in mind. Also, in the past, Mr. Kitagawa instructed me how to sing, but this time it was different, it was my own "attempt", so I sang it once and then gradually revised the parts that I was not satisfied with, and finally completed the song that appeared in this song that I was satisfied with.

INTERVIEWER I was very impressed by the use of string instruments and the dramatic performance of amplified songs and descriptions of language.

Kana Hanazawa: I also think that this time I also visited the recording process of stringed instrument performances. After recording his singing part, I heard that Mr. Kitagawa still had a music part to be included, so I went to visit. It's really exciting! If you sing this part at a concert, I think everyone's feelings will be very high!

INTERVIEWER Have you started to imagine yourself standing on stage and singing to your heart's content?

Kana Hanazawa: Yes, because I'm really looking forward to it (laughs).

3. Happy Obasan

INTERVIEWER Of the two choruses, "BlessingBell" is also a joint work by Mr. Kitagawa and Ms. Iwasato, right?

Kana Hanazawa: Yes, it was a very enjoyable song. Two days before I got the song, I received an email from a friend that said, "I'm getting married, can I give you an invitation?" (laughs) It was such a coincidence that it happened to be at this time, so I was shocked myself.

- It's really a wedding song to bless a friend's marriage. When singing, feelings should flow naturally and effortlessly, right?

Kana Hanazawa: Well, it's a coincidence! So when I sang it, I was so excited, and I felt like I was happy that Obasan was on the stage (laughs).

- Haha happiness Obasang (laughs).

Kana Hanazawa: I also felt like I was singing a little out of control afterwards. Also, the song demonstration tape includes Mr. Kitagawa's voice, so when I officially recorded the song, I sang while listening to Mr. Kitagawa's voice. I had the illusion that it was a male and female chorus, just like the famous wedding song of the seventies and eighties, "The Samba Dance of the Seven Star Ladybugs" (original title: "てんとう虫のサンバ"). If a girl is about my age, she will definitely have a similar state of mind to me.

INTERVIEWER This is the third track, "Goddess of Fate", which is your first collaboration with SoundAround, who is in charge of the composition and arrangement, is this another challenge to house music after the sixth single "Smile Mode"?

Kana Hanazawa: That's right! There's a strong sense of rhythm, right? This time I sang with a familiar feeling, and it must have been thanks to the experience I had gained from "Smile Mode".

INTERVIEWER When "Smile Mode" was released last year, Hanazawa held a mini concert for fans, but today's song is the exact opposite of the backroom feeling of the time, giving you the feeling of traveling through a wide world.

Kana Hanazawa: Yes, we traveled to the United States and Canada to make the album and shoot the music video. I met a lot of different people there, and this song was recorded at that time, and the lyrics reflect the feeling of people being separated and united in my heart at that time.

Fourth, the third solo album and the first appearance at the Budokan

INTERVIEWER Hanazawa mentioned earlier that your third solo album will be released in the spring, and you will also be stepping onto the stage of Nippon Budokan to start a national solo tour, right?

Kana Hanazawa: Yes, I've been working on it since the early days.

INTERVIEWER The last three singles are all very flexible, so I wonder what the new album will be like.

Kana Hanazawa: I can't reveal much about it yet, but ...... I'm having fun! This time, we will welcome new writers and bring new feelings to everyone. The writer who has taken care of me since "Claire" (note: Kana Hanazawa's debut album released in December 2013) has written me a lot of difficult new songs.

- I believe that the writers you are familiar with are very clear about your singing skills, so this time it will definitely be more difficult. But you also said just now that you don't feel burdened and enjoy it, do you?

Kana Hanazawa: Yes, it was very hard, but I also had a lot of satisfaction after the success, so I think it was also a very enjoyable collection and should be able to give you a good work. After all, I still want to set foot on the stage of the budokan and hold a concert tour with this album......

- I'm going to be boarding the Budokan soon, how is my mood at the moment?

Kana Hanazawa: How do you say that...... I thought a lot about it, and I watched a lot of videos of my seniors' concerts at the Budokan Museum. It's just that I can't imagine what I'll be able to do there, but I'm looking forward to it more than that. I think I'm going to be nervous, but I want to enjoy the concert as briskly and leisurely as possible with the audience, because that's what suits my personality the most.
