Interview with Kana Hanazawa: My growth in the last year

Coriander's 2013 is a year when she will meet many roles again and feel a deep growth. In this interview, Coriander talks about her thoughts on the voices she voiced various characters last year and the details of the new album.

After meeting many characters, I deeply feel that 2013 is a year of growth.

In 2013, I got a lot of opportunities to play a role that I played once before. In my opinion, this is a wonderful thing. It's a great relief because it shows that "they" are loved by the fans, and it doesn't have to worry about rethinking how to play a new role (laughs). After all, if I have performed once, I feel more at ease, and I know roughly who will be in the studio at that time, which helps me to form a relaxed state and go to work. However, after entering the second season, there are usually new characters appearing in the story or the story itself has changed slightly, so it is not too different from the production zuò who participated in the new work. For example, in "IS2", after entering the second season, the story starts on the basis that all the heroines have appeared and know each other, and my role as Xia Lu has become much more lively and cheerful than in the first season. And this time I still live in the same dormitory as Lavra, and the distance between us seems to have shortened a lot. It really makes me happy to see Xia Lu talking about some cute topics with her female friends.

"My Sister Can't Be So Cute" and "Lo Qiu Club!" The broadcast of the second season of these two works happened to be the finale of the original work, so it is inevitable that I will feel a little sad, but at the same time, there will be a kind of comfort in my heart. Especially the black cat in "My Sister", although she will not reveal her heart lightly in the first season, but in the second season, she was finally able to muster up the courage to express her heart and untie the knot that has been bothering her, for which I am sincerely happy for her. As for "Luo Qiu Club! In the second season, Zhihua's growth can be said to be very big. At the end of the anime, isn't this elementary school basketball team disbanded? ON THE DAY THE LAST EPISODE OF THE ANIME AIRED, THE MORNING WAS JUST FINISHED WITH "RO-YU-BU!" I watched the TV that night and couldn't help but burst into tears. I think it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"Monogatari" to me

When I read the original story, I really didn't expect the ending to be like that, so I remember very well remembering that I was very surprised. Of course, this also has to do with me thinking about how to interpret the characters while reading, but the story really had a big impact on me. Also, the entire series has always been narrated by Mr. Hiroshi Kamiya (who plays the role of Aragiri), but this time it was up to me to be in charge. How should I interpret it? There was both excitement and uneasiness in my heart. There are so many things that need to be mastered to narrate the development of the story from the perspective of the character of Nadeshiko, which makes me wonder what exactly is "narration"? So the practice time at that time was also a little longer than usual.

At that time, I was watching NHK's morning drama series "Little Sea Girl", and the reading of the side of the play was very smooth and natural, as if I had an insight, but it seemed that I didn't know it, and I told the story with an objective attitude, and from time to time I would read it with a little laughter, which gave me a feeling of being in control of the narration. "Is this what it's called narration?" ,I thought so, so I also tried it when I read the narration of the Tale of the Story.,But the transition between it and the Nadeshiko who is afraid of life in the play is really too difficult.。 At the scene of the recording, I held the original work in one hand as before, hoping to blend in with the feeling of the original "Monogatari series". In terms of story, Nadeshiko had only spoken to Brother Li and Mr. Kamihara before, but in this episode, I was glad to see that Nadeshiko and other characters were able to communicate with each other.

In 2013, he encountered the role of secondary two disease

How do I feel like I have a lot of opportunities to play the role of the second disease? For example, the black cat and the little dove in "My Friends Are Few NEXT", they are both girls with secondary two diseases. I always seem to be playing some dreaming character (laughs). In the theatrical version of "AURA~The Last Battle of the Light Fang of the Demon Dragon Temple~", I play a girl named Ryoko Sato. Ryoko, she is really a character who has never shown her inner feelings from beginning to end. No matter how the protagonist talks to her, or what happens, she's always alone. As the person who plays her, I'm always anxious about her. Since the story is mainly composed of dialogues between the protagonist and Ryoko, Mr. Shimazaki Nobunaga and I basically recorded it, and we even tried to record it alone for a long time. The original book is a story that ends in one volume, and although the ending is obvious, I put a lot of emphasis on the communication and connection between the two of them in the process of including it.

The film was directed by Seiji Kishi, and the sound supervisor was Mr. Riki Iida from "AngelBeats!", and the two of them kept telling me, "All in all, we want Miss Hanazawa to give you a cute feeling" (laughs). Since they thought so highly of me, of course I had to do my best not to disappoint them, so I tried my best to play Ryoko with a cute voice at that time.

As for STEINS; In the theatrical version of "GATE", I didn't have many scenes on the stage, and the inclusion ended quickly, but the response after the release was not small. I've been involved in this work for a long time, and even after all this time, everyone still likes the character so much, which really makes me happy! Judging from the setting of this work, it should be possible to create an infinite number of stories, and I really look forward to this work being able to continue to create!

Take on the role of an older person

In the animated film "The Garden of Words", I played Yukino, a 27-year-old woman who was older than my actual age. Coupled with the fact that this is the work of Makoto Shinkai, I need to interpret the feeling of being 27 years old very realistically. At the beginning, the role audition required that the participants must be at least 25 years old, and although I was only 23 years old at the time, I still begged my agent to let me participate in the audition, even if I couldn't make the selection. The whole selection process consisted of three parts, first we sent a sample of my voice for each other to audition, then I attended an audition in the studio, and finally went through an interview with the director himself. I don't think there are many selections that are so carefully selected, and the last time it should have been the work "Literary Girl".

During the interview, I kept thinking about the question, "What does the director want to see me?" "I was nervous about the interview, but I didn't expect the director to ask me questions like "what do you like?" It turned out that the director was worried that my age would be too different from the life experience of the older Yukino. I replied at the time, "I have a lot of things in me that resonate with Yukino", and the story is set near Shinjuku, which is a place where there is actually a zài, and I often go there; Yukino is a 27-year-old woman who has slowly started to get used to work, has encountered some setbacks, and is depressed, and although there is a slight age gap between me and her, there are still many descriptions and lines that resonate with me. Because I didn't expect to be able to pass the selection in the first place, I just had a mentality of doing my best. Before I was officially included, I was thinking about how to play this character. So I went to the actual stage of the story, read the lines quietly, and went to the names of the places mentioned in the story, so that I could make associations, and in short, try to fit in with the characters as much as possible. It's actually quite a fun time to prepare, so when the recording ended, I couldn't help but feel a little lonely. However, this is also a good indication that this is a certain amount of time.

Colorful characters

In the anime "Miss Kotoura", Yuriko Mifune, which I played, is also a very happy character, and it would be nice if I could play this role more often. Isn't it great that the president of the club not only needs to know how to gather people's hearts, but also has a big heart on the surface but secretly doesn't know what to think! During the audition, I also tried out for the role of Miss Kotoura, but I already wanted to play Yuriko Mifune at that time, so I was really happy when I decided to play Yuriko Mifune. However, the atmosphere at the recording site is always a little strange (laughs). That's because watching the way Hoshiko Kanemoto (as Haruka Kotoura) joked about Jun Fukushima (played by Yoshihisa Manabe) in and out of the left ear and out of the right ear, Hiroshi Shimono (played by Daichi Muroto) and I found it so amusing that we sometimes blurted out "Go on, don't stop!" (laughs). In addition, the character played by Yurika Kubo (who plays Hiyori Moritani) is also a character who is teased all day long, so when we recorded the scene, it was no different from the characters in the work.

The evil god mirror in "Lock Lock Beauty Classmate @ Can't Lift Up" is a machine person who gradually acquires feelings similar to human beings, Selop in "Absolute Defense Leviathan" is a chattering goblin, and Plulut in "Super Dimensional Game Neptune" is a girl who will become a big sister after transformation...... In 2013, I played a lot of challenging roles. One of the most challenging works in my opinion is Instant Noodle Fan's GO! GO! Appliance Man". I am the only one who is a full-time voice actor, and the rest of the lead voice actors include Mr. Daigo Matsui, the director of the live-action movie version of "The Daily Life of a High School Boy", Mr. Yuichiro Nakayama as a stage actor, and Kenta Hamano, a musician. I had to play almost all the female roles by myself, and as a full-time voice actor, I felt like I was being put to the test (laughs). So when I actually recorded it, I was very enthusiastic and excited. But maybe because I'm the only girl in the audience, everyone doesn't seem to know how to get along with me, so the atmosphere at the scene is always a little awkward (laughs). There is also an episode that I remember was titled "Miss Hanazawa", and it was an interesting episode about the drum washing machine played by Mr. Hamano who was fascinated by me. I remember when he said, "Miss Hanazawa, you're so cute!" At the time of this sentence, the hair dryer lady I played appeared and complained to him, "Although you think people are so cute, she is actually the kind of woman who scratches her ass while watching the live broadcast of sumo wrestling matches at home!" (laughs). In real life, I was actually scratching my ass while watching a baseball game live. Hmmm, haha.

A challenging year, a summary of 2013

"From a Calm Tomorrow" is a story that makes people laugh every week, and I like it myself; In "Tokyo Raven", she played a girl who disguised herself as a man and fought as an onmyoji. If I were to sum up 2013 in a short sentence, I think it would be "gossip"! I've played so many roles in the past year, and if I list them all, I'm afraid it would scare you, but I think I'm living a fairly peaceful life, and I haven't had any problems with my body because of the heavy workload. In 2014, I hope to continue to deal with work calmly and calmly, and perform every role that comes my way!

"The second season of music starts with the album production!" The Inclusion Process and the "Legend"

My second solo album "25" will be released on February 26th! The album consists of two CDs and contains a total of 25 songs. Although the process is cumbersome, the whole process of recording is very smooth. Basically, there are two days a week for the recording, and each time the process is very enjoyable. However, the staff who worked with me on the album were much harder than I was, and they had an amazing amount of work. The recording process usually starts in the early evening, but after I finish singing, the crew has to do a lot of mixing and recording the sounds of real instruments, and this process is repeated twenty-five times...... You can imagine how hard they worked. Even Mr. Kitagawa Katsu smiled and said, "It's not over yet, I have to keep busy (laughs)." I've heard that the average sleep time is only about three hours, and Kitagawa even meets with the mixer every day.

Luckily, I chose one of my favorite studios for this collection. Sure enough, the studio has a so-called suitable for me, and when the work is not satisfactory, I always complain "Ah, this place is completely out of tune with me", but if you think about it carefully, it should not be the studio's business, probably just because I am not in the state, so I have this kind of negative feelings...... So for this time, I made a small request - I wanted to work in a place where I could relax as much as possible (laughs). The studio environment is very clean and beautiful, and the size is just right, neither too spacious nor too cramped, it is a very comfortable environment, and every time I go to work, I feel a sense of relaxation that is not like work. How can I say it, maybe it's a vocation that makes people enjoy it (laughs).

Whenever Mr. Kitagawa gave me guidance, we had a tacit understanding. Even if he doesn't finish his sentence, just "...... here", I can answer him with understanding: "Oh, what about here". Thanks to his guidance, the recording time has also been greatly reduced. For the first album, it took about five hours to record each song, but this time it took about two to three and a half hours on average. Mr. Kitagawa's guidance is also easy to understand, and he knows that I don't understand, so he doesn't say some obscure musical terms. If he says, "This is a staccato mark, and I want to sing it in a staccato way," then I'm afraid I'll just be confused, "What should I do, should I sing 'TA, TA, TA, A'" (laughs)? But Mr. Kitagawa never did that, but stood next to me and sang to me himself. I would always be amazed and exclaimed, "I see!" "Mr. Kitagawa, he's really like a teacher.

My "Little Story"

Once, in my spare time for the recording, Mr. Kitagawa and I were chatting and happened to talk about the "legend" of the studio. I heard that many singers have some weird "legends", such as singing while sleeping in the studio, and singing only when they take off their clothes, etc...... So I thought, why don't I be funny when I sing? But it's a shame that I can't leave a new legend behind (laughs)!

Readers who have read the January issue may have an impression of the manga at that time, and I always had a habit of twisting my shoulders before singing. If you have to say it, maybe this can be regarded as a kind of "legend". This movement was influenced by the former gymnastics of Mr. Ken Mae (pitcher Kenta Maeda of the Hiroshima Toyo Curve team) (laughs), and after watching it on TV, I wondered if twisting my shoulders would help me relax. So I slowly developed such a habit. When dubbing an anime, I have to stand still a lot of the time, and my body is tense, so my shoulders feel very sore after a long time. Even when I was singing, my shoulders would slowly get sore, so I insisted on twisting my shoulders once a day to move my muscles. If you just went to the massage, it doesn't matter if you don't twist it, but one time, just as I was about to sing without twisting my shoulder, Mr. Kitagawa suddenly interrupted me and said, "Eh, don't you have to twist your shoulder today?" It seems that before I know it, this habit has become a fixed ritual before I sing (laughs).

Also, I make up some movements and dance and sing. In one of the songs that Mr. Okii wrote to me, there was a lyric of "yesyesyes". However, because of the high pitch here, my voice could not come out, so I asked Mr. Okii how to pronounce it. As a result, Mr. Okii and Mr. Kitagawa built together, and I said, "Why don't you try to sing while doing the movements." "How is it possible, you can't sing it if you do it......," I replied with a slight protest, but still raised my hands and made a V gesture. As a result, "Ah...... Sing it out——!! (laughs). And I still move like those funny artists, making a double V gesture made with O-shaped legs. You can't laugh at me! Because if you don't exaggerate, you can't sing this tune! At first, I was very embarrassed, and I just put a small V-shape, but Mr. Kitagawa taught me that "if you want to do it, you have to do it well", so I dared to put aside my scruples and do it boldly (laughs).

In this way, I recorded it while doing the action. Slowly, I felt that the room temperature was a little too high, and I even sweated hot. So I turned the room temperature quite frequently, but not every song was hot and sweaty, and some songs had a quiet and slow rhythm, so I would sing with a more relaxed voice. According to the staff, when I sing these serene songs, my expression becomes very strict, as if a wooden piece with a straight face is standing in the studio (laughs).
