Yuki Tomino talks about the future of animation

["Animation has no future! ”…… But there is only one way to break through this problem.]

On March 21st, the Tokyo Anime Awards 2014 Ceremony was held at the Toho Theater Nihonbashi. Taking advantage of this opportunity, director Yuki Tomino, who has just released his new work "Mobile Suit Gundam G Restoration Campaign", held a conversation with relevant people in the industry.

In addition to director Yuki Tomino, Cedric Ritaldi from Pioneer (a company related to the French animation industry) and Takashi Kato, an industrialist from 246Capital Co., Ltd., participated in the dialogue as guests. The trio discussed the topic of "The Future of Animation". However, as soon as director Tomino opened his mouth, he said amazingly: "Although we are discussing the future of animation, animation has no future!" This black hole-level speech also made the audience stunned. It's just that then Tomino said that this is also a prerequisite. But there are really not many people on the scene who can keep up with the old man's thinking......

Director Tomino: "I've been watching The Tale of Genji recently. I feel that from this book, 1000 years ago the world was already the end of the world, and it can be said that the world is finished! There is no future at all! As long as we understand this, there is no point in discussing what happens next! …… What should I do in the future (laughs)"

It can be said that from the first minute of the conversation, Director Tomino was on full fire. The whole conversation took about 2 hours, and near the end, he also talked about the most anticipated "Mobile Suit Gundam G Repatriation Campaign". The following is an excerpt of the content of the conversation, and those who are interested may wish to continue reading!

[Professionalization of animation and loss of realism]

Why is there no future for animation? Director Tomino said.

Director Tomino: "Now that some vocational schools have been established, animation has become a full-time job. But when a group of experts comes together, the field of view becomes narrow. Forty or fifty years ago, in an animation studio, there were a bunch of people who didn't even know what animation was. However, they each have a 'sense of realism' in a field other than animation. And if animators don't have this kind of element, and only because they like animation, they receive relevant training to become professionals, then there is no freedom at all for what these people make! ”

Director Tomino: "Not to mention the fact that there are now sites like YouTube, which makes it possible to create individual zuò animations. As a result, the work becomes more and more delusional. As a result, this kind of animation is not a work at all, but just a personal diary. If you want to see the future of animation on this kind of thing, then the answer is obviously no. So is there a future in Dinis's animation? Those who have been brainwashed by Disney will think, 'The so-called animation is just like Disney', and then keep making copycats of Disney works. There's no future for such animation, right? So there is no way out at all. ”

So is there really no future for animation? In this regard, director Tomino made another speech.

Director Tomino: "There is a way to break through this situation. That's when we admit that we can't do anything anymore and throw the responsibility on to future generations. This is a question that all of you here today should ponder. But few animation practitioners think about it. ”

Director Tomino added, "Because I'm a person with no talent, if you look at my resume, you'll find that it's hard for me to keep working steadily." "It's true that there were several blank periods in director Tomino's career." There are some people who are really talented and can output their works steadily. But let's be aware of the fact that none of these works are the same. "That's right, it's impossible for a creator to consistently bring great work to everyone. At such times, the creator has to think "why can't I make a good work?" "What's wrong?" Then acknowledge the existence of the problem, and keep it explicit...... In this way, the next generation will have the opportunity to solve problems and be able to create new works. Director Tomino's "future of animation" is like this.

[What kind of work is "Mobile Suit Gundam G Restoration Campaign"]

Director Tomino also talked about the new work "Mobile Suit Gundam G Restoration Campaign". Director Tomino: "I have to admit that at this age, I can't imagine what the Earth will look like in 50 or 100 years. So when I was thinking about the new work, I thought of the topic "G Restoration Movement". As an old man, I don't want to leave my children with stories like the death of humanity in despair. Therefore, this time we will make an anime work full of positives. ”

[What is that Gundam-like thing in the precursor PV of Mobile Suit Gundam G Reunification?] 】

The preview PV of Mobile Suit Gundam G has already been announced on the Gundam 35th Anniversary Special website, and when talking about the PV, Director Tomino thinks that Gundam fans will feel a sense of disobedience after watching it. And the reasons are explained.

Director Tomino: "It's no surprise that Gundam fans aren't used to this PV. Because what appears inside is not Gundam. It's just something that comes out in the Gundam-style table. Someone who watched the first episode of the original Gundam 35 years ago complained to me, "I don't know what you're trying to do." It took about 5 or 6 years for them to understand the work. But now I don't need to be understood. The same thing (similar to Gundam) appears twice in the PV, and if you want to know what it is, you have to see the feature film to understand it. Anyway, it's such a strange thing. ”

Usually in PV, there will be the figure of the main machine qì person. This time should be no exception. However, most PV will give some brief introduction to the body, but the "similar Gundam" that appears in this PV is a kind of "If we don't pay attention to the plot of the anime, we can't figure out what it is"! Here, I can only make people cry and laugh and say: I really lost to Director Tomino! It can be said that throughout the dialogue process, director Tomino fully showed his personality to us, and if this new work can really surprise people, then it can be regarded as a relief for the old man, right?

Shinbo Akiyuki was interviewed and praised Sayaka many times

In the latest issue of the Japanese anime magazine "Quarterly S", there is an article about "Madoka Magica" and an interview with the supervisor of Akiyuki Shinbo. When talking about the personalities of all the characters, Shinya has repeatedly "praised" Sayaka and "belittled" other characters, which makes people think that Shinya is a loyal Sayaka party! The following is a translation of the interview excerpts.

【Interview with the supervisor of Akiyuki Shinbo, Quarterly S Shinbo】

Madoka's wish is just a matter of going with the flow, not with deep considerations.

Xiao Yan's hair and glasses are all designed to please others after liberating her true heart.

Sayaka is innocent, and Sayaka has no murderous intent towards others.

Destroying inhuman things is not a crime, and the same is true for killing witches.

I was reluctant to depict the girl's death, so I had to make Homura a demon.

The magical girls are innocent, and the only ones who are guilty are Madoka and Homura.

Xiaoyan should not be on the side of the protagonist.

In my mind, this time it's a story with Sayaka as the main character.

Having murderous intent towards Sayaka is Homura's sin. Trying to save Homura is Madoka's sin.

Madoka wasn't supposed to be friends with Homura, and they were duly punished in Rebellion.

Xiaoyan's pain is caused by the sins she has committed, and she has suffered it by herself.

Xiao Yan didn't have any remorse for wanting to kill Sayaka, so there was no need to save her.

Xiaoyan should die quickly and be freed from the curse.

As long as you get off the killer, no matter what good things you do, you can't stand on the side of the hero.

Characters who kill people want to be happy, which is structurally impossible.

If you want to be happy, you need to depict the process of introspection. Even if you can't depict it, you can't kill it.

Sayaka didn't kill her own real thoughts, so I portrayed her activity in New Chapters.

It's better to say that Xiao Yan, who choked Sayaka's neck on the way, was even worse.

She has been reincarnated too many times, so her perception is different from that of ordinary people.

I feel that "New Chapter" depicts the story of Madoka's sins and punishments.

Xuan Xuyuan reveals new information about "PsychoPass".

On March 24th, Gen Kubuchi, who was in charge of the original plot and script of "PSYCHO-PASS", attended an event held at the Sakurazaka Theater in Naha City, Japan, and revealed some new information about "PSYCHO-PASS" at the event.

The 6th Okinawa International Film Festival, "Sakurasaka Film University", was held on March 24 at the Sakurasaka Theater in Naha City, and Mr. Gen Hibuchi was invited to attend the event. "I'm really embarrassed that I was asked not to mention the theatrical version of PSYCHO-PASS and the second season," he said at the event, and although he declined the interview at the event, he then accidentally said that "the script for the second season and the theatrical version has been completed, and the animation production site is in a very busy situation, because the script for the theatrical version has just been completed, so we are currently working on the theatrical version." Fans were very excited after hearing this, and immediately expressed their great anticipation.

Regarding the story content of the theatrical version and the second season, Mr. Xuyuan said, "In the first season, there were a lot of things that could not be explained in detail, and the theatrical version will be based on filling in these gaps, and of course the second season will be like this, partially filling in part and partly. As for the second season, since the cunning of the protagonist in the first season is no longer the police, there will be a new squad on the scene, but he may continue to appear."

At the event, Mr. Jiichi Seki, a voice actor, watched the first and final episodes of "PSYCHO-PASS" with the comedy group "NONSTYLE", the comedy artist "Sakura", and Saki Inagaki and others. After reading it, Mr. Xuyuan smiled bitterly and said, "Looking back now, this is really a bit of a messy story." He also revealed how he took on the responsibility of writing the script, "At that time, under the arrangement of director Naoyoshi Shiotani and director Katsuyuki Motohiro, the plan had already progressed, and then they came to me and said that they wanted to write the script, and I said a few words casually at the meeting, so it was finalized", and not only that, but he also revealed some small secrets in the production process, such as "It's not so much a story about men and women as a story about work." The director said, 'We don't need the element of love', so the whole film was too strict", which made many fans admire from the bottom of their hearts.

"PSYCHO-PASS" is an original TV anime that quantifies the state of human psychology and judges their good and evil, and the story is set in a highly information-based near-future society. From October 2012 until March 13, it was broadcast for half a year in Fuji TV's late-night animation "Noitamina". With Mr. Hiroshi Motohiro as the general supervisor, Mr. Xubuchi as the original story and script, and Mr. Akira Amano as the original character designer, the film has aroused heated discussions in the city from the beginning of its production. THE SECOND SEASON OF THE STORY WILL CONTINUE TO BE BROADCAST DURING THE "NOITAMINA" SLOT IN OCTOBER THIS YEAR, AND THE THEATRICAL VERSION OF THE ANIME WILL ALSO BE RELEASED THIS WINTER.

"WUG" audition loser voice actor contest won the championship

At the end of last year, we got the news that the 2nd All Japan Voice Actor Contest - "Voice Yun Soul" will be working with the idol anime "WakeUp, Girls!" directed by Uncle Kuan! and what is laughable is that on the 22nd of this month, the final selection was ushered in, and the winner of the Grand Prize of this year's All Japan Voice Actor Contest was actually in the original "WakeUp, Girls! 》The Fukushima Prefecture high school junior girl who was not selected in the voice actor audition is like Amuro!

The All Japan Voice Actor Contest is a contest that aims to discover and support young people in the field of animation. The contest is divided into a voice actor group and an original story group. The voice actor group is for high school and junior high school students from all over Japan who aspire to become voice actors, as well as young people from all over the world. 19 of the 1,242 contestants were selected for the final selection. Borrowing from WakeUp, Girls! The contestants were asked to simulate the "Recording Selection" of post-recording on stage, and the "Interactive Speech Selection" in which the contestants performed their lines in pairs, and the judges of the selection were the active sound supervisors.

One of the judges, actor and voice actor's sound supervisor Shigeru Chiba, humorously said when he came out, "It's okay if the microphone is bad two or three, there must be such momentum!" At the same time, she also said after proposing the construction for the contestants: "Everyone is so good! Isn't it time for me to go back to my hometown? "This is a way to commend the high level of participants.

As a result of the final selection, the winner of the Best Excellence Award in the Japanese category in the voice actor category was Munakata Amuro (third year of high school?). Fukushima Prefecture), Excellence Award for Natsumi Kawaida (third year of high school?) Aichi Prefecture), Nishihata Arashi (third year of high school?) Fukuoka Prefecture). The winners of the Excellence Award in the international category are Zhou Boyi (China), Lee Yoon-jung (South Korea), Sonia ? Ryu (Canada), it is worth mentioning that Zhou Boyi from China won the special prize because he was highly praised by the judges for having Japanese language skills at the same level or higher as those in the Japanese category.

Grand Prix winner Amuro Muneka has appeared in "WakeUp, Girls! I said that I couldn't hold back my crying in the Shinkansen that I went home after losing the election. Perhaps it was this remorse that contributed to the championship of this contest, she said with a smile after the game, "Actually, I came this time to use WakeUp, Girls! The animation video once again challenged itself, but I didn't expect to win the Grand Prix, which made me feel more confident. ”

In addition, Munakata Amuro used the name of the contest not in the kanji "Amuro", but "AMURO (アムロ)", and when asked why he did this, "When I was a kid and entered junior high school, the boys used to say, 'I'm going to AMURO!'" It's a nickname to tease me, but that's what adolescent boys do. For me, who aspires to become a voice actor, the name 'AMURO' is a great one. She explains. It is reported that Munakata Amuro will move to Tokyo in April this year to enter a training center under a voice actor agency, with the goal of making a voice actor's debut.
