Captain Flower Dance is on board! Interview with rookie voice actress Rina Ueda
Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Rookie Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce Rina Ueda, who has performed well in works such as "Flower Dancing Girl" (Naruto Sekitani) and "Harmonie" (Masai Meishuri).
Q: When it was decided that she was going to play the role of "Naru" in "Flower Dancing Girl", how did Miss Ueda feel?
Ueda: When I decided to play after the audition, I thought to myself, "Ah, I'll be able to stay with Naru." "During the audition for "Dancing Girls", we communicated with each other, and the staff also gave one-on-one guidance, which gave me a very serious and meticulous impression. Therefore, in my heart, "Ming" also occupies a very important weight. After deciding on the role, I was happy and relieved to think that I could learn about the new side of Naru. However, then a sense of responsibility came to my heart: "Since you are the protagonist, you can't work hard......!" (laughs)
Q: What kind of charm do you feel from Xiao Ming? And how do you incorporate this charm into the show?
Ueda: In the first episode, she didn't have confidence in the first half of the episode, and she felt that it was a very shameful thing to express her will in words and deeds...... And I just want to give this introverted part to the table. However, through her encounters with her companions, she experienced a lot of things, and she became able to express her opinions. In the second half of the plot, I also consciously reflected the original powerful part of "Naru".
Q: What does "Naru" mean when it was originally powerful?
Ueda: I think that Naruto's strength is not that she is cheerful like Hana (**) (voice actress: Mikai Tanaka), but that she is able to "support everyone from behind" like the night moon, and this softness is her strength. "Naru" is deeply influenced by "Hana", so sometimes it gradually becomes very similar to "Hanna". I hope to be able to express this feeling in the performance. For example, the power of "Hanna" is that she can say "No problem!" no matter what she is facing. ”。 And the way she speaks is impressive. And on the basis of absorbing this characteristic, it would be nice if "Ming" could further express the handsome part of Xiàn. This is especially true from episode 10 to the last episode.
Q: Indeed, when I heard the voice of "Ming" in the first episode, I felt that she was a little scared, and her voice was trembling in front of others, and she seemed very unconfident. Compared to Miss Ueda's original voice, Naruto's voice is sharper.
Ueda: That's it! It took my best effort to make a high note for a junior high school girl (laughs). And as the recording progressed, I gradually became accustomed to it, and then expressed my essence...... So "Ming" also showed a "uncle" atmosphere (laughs). The staff often complained: "Can you get back the cuteness at the beginning?" "Get into the habit of finding cuteness again!" (laughs)
Q: In other words, for other girls, it reflects the taste of "uncle"? Or is this just a lonely "uncle" (laughs)?
Ueda: It's just "a lonely uncle" (laughs). Once you're happy, you'll drift out into the clouds (laughs). In some hilarious episodes, she would shout, "Wait! Don't do this! "And this kind of table is not very cute (laughs).
Q: So Ms. Ueda also does some impromptu performances?
Ueda: I didn't have any particular ideas at first, but once I got into the role, it seems that everyone will naturally say **. Also, in addition to "Naruto", we will also add lines to the cats on the side of the road (laughs)! Doesn't it have a corresponding effect when the ending song is broadcast? That's what we did around episode 4...... (laughs)
Q: I really have to watch it again! In addition to that, in fact, this type of sound ...... Will it also appear in some surprising plots?
Ueda: In the middle of a group of children barking, we thought it would be more interesting if there were dogs. So Ms. Toyoguchi next to her screamed, and then triggered a reaction from the people around us. They said, "What, is the dog hungry?" Then we started talking to the dog owners.
Q: It sounds like the atmosphere at the dubbing scene is very enjoyable!
Ueda: That's right (laughs). At first, because there were some girls younger than me, I felt that if I didn't do a good job of my elders, I couldn't lead them forward. But after episodes 2 and 3, I realized that no matter what I do, I will be gently accepted by others. I don't think I need to force myself to work hard, just keep myself to face "Naru". From that time on, I felt that my mentality was better than ever~ For those voice actors who made cameo appearances, they might find it difficult to communicate with everyone when we met for the first time, so we took the initiative to contact them and took the time to create a good atmosphere.
Q: What are the five members of the "Flower Dancing Girls" like?
Ueda: Well, seriously, it has a similar atmosphere to the five characters in the anime! Tami-san (voice actor: Yuka Otsubo) and Machi-san (voice actor: Aimi Asakura) are always seated together, and Miss Otsubo always replies "That's so" to Miss Numakura's words, and accepts her opinion. Because of this, Hana-chan (voice actor: Miami Tanaka) and Yami-chan (voice actress: Kaya Okuno) were able to have a cheerful personality.
Q: What kind of impression do you have of Miss Tanaka, who voiced Hana-chan, and Ms. Okuno, who voiced Yami-chan?
Ueda: Hana-chan is a very energetic and cheerful girl, and not only that, but she can also testify to her strength for us after deeply experiencing troubles. In addition, the same is true for Yami-chan, and Koye-chan is also working very hard like the character. I think she can keep working hard to support her handsome self. Just as "Naru" respects Yaya-chan very much, I also respect Koya-chan very much. (Shy)
Q: Ms. Okuno used to say that she regretted that Naruto was snatched away by Hana (laughs).
Ueda: Hehe, hey (laughs). She also said something like this at the dubbing scene~ I sat with Xiangye-chan, and we were opposite Mi-hae, during the shooting, if I and Mi-hae were put together, Kayama-chan would complain: "Actually shot at my 'Ming'!" (laughs) ~ It makes people feel ...... It's so cute~ (laughs)
Q: The character song "YOSAKOISONGSeries" is currently on sale, so what song does Ms. Ueda think is the most emotionally involved song in "Flower Dancing Girls"?
Ueda: In the theme song "花ハ陶レヤいろはにほ" and my own character song, I sang it while expressing the unstable and erratic character of the early "Naru". However, in DreamJUMP! In the chorus of the theme song, I was thinking about becoming handsome "Naru", and then I tried to change both the voice and the way I sang it...... In that sense, I'm very interested in DreamJUMP! was very impressed. Although she is going to show her introverted part, once her voice changes, you may also think, "Is this really 'Ming'?" "(laughs) Personally, I really like Shinchi's character songs~ Every morning when I wake up, such a refreshing song can make people wake up!
Q: In addition to "Dancing Girls", which work would you like fans to see you appear in? Ueda: Of course, we have to mention "Harmonie" and "Let's Explore!" A live drama". Usually I'm close to Shuri-chan from "Harmonie", but when my mind is confused, I feel like Sister Enda (laughs).
Q: What are you doing in "Let's Explore! In "A Living Drama", one person has 18 roles (laughs).
Ueda: (laughs). I'm really scared of life and have social phobia. I usually look very quiet, but if I don't get 100 times more energetic in front of others, I get very nervous (laughs). And once the love arises, sometimes I will gradually show myself those places that are off the line, but I still have to work hard (laughs). It's like "Groping for it! In this way, being able to express my own works shows a different side of me (laughs).
Q: Do you still have social phobia even when you're dubbing in front of others......?
Ueda: When I'm in front of the microphone, I don't feel as nervous as I do when I'm in public, and I feel like I'm able to speak more easily than I normally would. However, when you think about how to express your thoughts and thoughts to everyone, you may feel uneasy and wonder if your way of saying this is not appropriate (laughs). This aspect may also be similar to "Naruto".
Q: By the way, how do you relax yourself?
Ueda: My way of relaxing is to meet people. I'm socially phobic, nervous, and not very good at talking to people, but I think that's why I need to be in touch with people. Once I'm alone, I'll have to live in my own minds. I haven't experienced much yet, but it's a shame. I want to meet a lot of people through guò, and I have all kinds of knowledge and feelings, which makes me feel happy and relaxed. It's okay to just chat, just take a leisurely walk together.
Q: Walking is one of your hobbies?
Ueda: That's right! Ah, it's better not to talk nonsense about this kind of interest that others have said...... I often observe creatures on the side of the road. Ants, small insects, and even unicorns if it's summer. I've always wondered: why are they here? I can't say I'm not afraid of bugs at all, but I'm still interested (laughs). That's why I sometimes go for a walk with the ants (laughs). But saying this kind of thing also makes people feel very lonely...... (laughs)
Q: No, it's surprisingly funny (laughs). So, tell us about your recent failures!
Ueda: Failure...... I fail three times a day...... Well, maybe it's not necessarily a failure, but I used to walk while sleeping. It's not like you're drunk. Instead, there were a lot of uphill climbs on the way home, and then I thought, "I hate it, there are so many ramps, I want to get home quickly...... and I lost consciousness somehow. When I came back to my senses, I had already crossed two uphill slopes, and then I sighed, "Hey, I'll be home soon!" (laughs) I guess I'm really asleep. I'm really scary (laughs).
Q: (laughs). So, what kind of voice actress does Miss Ueda want to be in the future?
Ueda: I want to be a voice actor with a big heart! Every time I meet my seniors, I gain a lot of experience and have a deeper understanding of the roles I play. Even with every second of the line, this feeling is growing. I also want to experience a variety of experiences, accept the ideas of the characters, and become a voice actor with great skills.
Q: Speaking of voice actors, who are the people around you?
Ueda: Rei Sakuma, Megumi Toyoguchi, and Kikuko Inoue, who are in the same office as me. It's not just the acting, they can give us a sense of peace of mind as long as they sit there. Usually it seems very calm, but when you come to the microphone, you will feel "very weighty". In addition, the way they are very considerate of other people around me also warms my heart, these people are strong and tolerant women. They are very handsome and I admire them!
Q: Finally, would you like to say a few words to the readers who read this interview?
Ueda: I thought, "I want to change my personality!" "That's one of the reasons why I wanted to be a voice actor. As a voice actor, I get to work with a lot of works and meet a variety of characters, and I feel like I'm able to get a lot of ideas. I'm not very good at dubbing yet, but I realize that I have a lot to improve, so I have to find my ideal self and perform as perfectly as possible. I want to grow with my work and my characters.
I'm scared of life, and I'm constantly overcoming it, but if I can make myself more composed, I'll be able to better convey the joy of the work and the good of the characters to the audience! In order to motivate everyone, I will change myself little by little in the future, so please support me! Please advise!!
Q: Thank you, Ms. Ueda, for accepting our interview today!
