The sound of cuteness is coming! Interview with rookie voice actress Aya Susaki

Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Rookie Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce Aya Susaki, who has had an excellent performance in works such as "Tamako Market" (Kita-Shirakawa Tamako) and "Girl in Order" (Mitsunami as Makoko).

Q: Ms. Suzaki, please tell us how she felt about the shooting?

Suzaki: When I used to take pictures, I couldn't pose any POSE except for a "V" (laughs). I've finally been a little more positive lately. So let's put on a pretty fashionable POSE.

Q: Let's get to the point. Ms. Suzaki played the role of Serena Sharlock in the anime "TRINITYSEVEN MOJO 7 Messengers".

Suzaki: Serena is the younger sister of the twins. She is affiliated with the Ministry of Information and is the spokesperson of the school. Character, innocent, from the perspective of positioning, it belongs to a more lively role. And one of the members of "TRINITYSEVEN" starring Dong ** Yang Sauce - Lisserrot Scharlock is her sister. It feels like she often bullies Lilith voiced by Yumi-chan Hara with Levi, who starred in Sakura Ayane-chan.

Q: This is an anime with a large number of girls, so what is the atmosphere like at the dubbing scene?

Suzaki: Anyway, it's a scene full of women! The atmosphere is very harmonious, and everyone chats together during the break. Among the people who starred together, I would go to have a meal after the recording with the three of them, Ayane-chan Sakura and Riyi-chan Murakawa.

Q: You also hosted a radio show called "Nishi Suzaki" with Ms. Asuka Nishi, and you would like to ask some questions about this. The conversation between Miss Suzaki and Miss Nishi is very interesting and popular.

Suzaki: Thank you very much. And the simple emails from the listeners are also very interesting.

Q: How did you select these emails?

Suzaki: The dedicated staff will first sift through the emails we receive, and then we will read all the contents of the screening and select some parts that we like. Everyone writes with a sense of amusement. I also like things like, for example, "What's the taste inside the delicious bar?" And there are a lot of people who post such content.

Q: I feel like the audience is studying the interests of Ms. Suzaki and Ms. Nishi.

Suzaki: I don't know if that's really the way it is (laughs). I often tell Asuka that "the emails from the listeners are getting interesting!" ”

Q: "Misaki West" has been on the air for more than 80 episodes, and it has maintained a fixed atmosphere from the very beginning.

Suzaki: Yes. Only in the first issue Asuka used honorifics, but this kind of thing is unimaginable now (laughs). By the second issue or so, I think it's basically the same as it is now.

Q: Were the two of you so close before the start of "Misaki Nishi"?

Suzaki: We've only met twice before when we've been discussing how to do "Suzaki Nishi". In addition, there was almost no communication, and now that I think about it, I can't help but sigh: "I really didn't expect our relationship to be so good!" ”

Q: What was your impression of Ms. Nishi before "Nishi Suzaki" began?

Suzaki: I've never seen a child who can give people such a sense of surprise (laughs). But we were very close in age, so we felt like we could get along from the start.

Q: What was the reason for the two to become close?

Suzaki: After we started hosting broadcasts together, the relationship became very good. It's fun to talk as you please, without having to worry about anything. However, just hosting the broadcast for a little time still can't make the relationship better. So, after the first and second periods, I invited her to tea and talked about a lot of things. Later, I learned that Asuka also seemed to think that "I can become good friends with this girl". Also, I invited her to "go take a bath!" "Sure enough, when we meet, we can quickly shorten the distance between each other. This is a unique way of thinking in Japan, right?

Q: You also mentioned the story about bathing on the radio? I think there will be a lot of fans who are surprised and think, "I can talk about these things on the radio!" ”

Tsuzaki: Ahaha (laughs). I'm closer to Asuka's control of the bottom line. For example, we are very similar in terms of how far we can talk about it, and what kind of process we can talk about will make the other person unhappy. That's why we have such a good relationship. Sometimes I think, "I don't want people to talk like this," but that rarely happens to Asuka.

Q: What did you discuss before the broadcast started?

ASAKI: Just chat as usual and say things like, "Look at this email! Very loving! Something like that. Then the discussion was over. So it's a discussion, but it's not a discussion. Although at the beginning, someone asked: "Aren't the lines prepared in your show great?" "But in fact, we don't have anything written in our scriptbook! (laughs)

Q: Ms. Suzaki's "poisonous tongue dialogue" is also very popular.

Suzaki: I didn't pay much attention to the "poisonous tongue", but I just wanted to express my opinion bluntly. Instead of thinking about "creating a XX character", it is better to show your true self. And it would be great if someone could support me like that.

Q: Are there any issues of "Continent West" that impress you in particular?

Uzaki: I was very impressed with DJCD, which is a part of going to various places to get materials. In "vol.3", we went to Asuka's hometown, Hyogo Prefecture, and in "vol.4", we went to my hometown, Ishikawa Prefecture. In addition, we have actually done it in our respective homes!

Q: There are still very few projects like this.

Suzaki: I'm so happy! In short, our parents like each other very much, so the relationship becomes very harmonious...... No matter who you go to, the parents of this family will prepare luxurious dishes to entertain them. When I stayed at Asuka's house, I also took a bath together and slept together in Asuka's room...... It felt like a friend from his student days, and the two talked until midnight.

Q: It's like a school trip.

Suzaki: I really feel that way! She also showed me a photo album from when she was a child, and Asuka was really cute (laughs).

Q: How did Asuka feel when she was using the ingredients?

Suzaki: It's the same as me. We all knew that we had "been loved by our families" and went back with a warm feeling. And then there's the saying, "Everyone is alike!" It's just like a matryoshka doll! "Because whether it's grandma, mother, or auntie, everyone has an aura similar to me, and one is shorter than the other (laughs).

Q: "Seuzaki Nishi" held its first exclusive event in August last year, so I'd like to ask Ms. Suzaki what she thinks.

Suzaki: When the people who listen to our show appeared, I was very happy and thought, "Ah, these people are listening to A&G+ every Tuesday night...... and I suddenly felt like they were close to me." I thought my show was very close to the audience, but I thought it was great to see the reaction from the people at the Tongguò event.

Q: Speaking of events, Ms. Suzaki went to Kyoto University for a symposium in November. So how did Ms. Suzaki spend her school days?

Tsuzaki: I think it's just the right thing. In order not to regret it in the future, I want to do everything I want. I go to a university that trains teachers, and I join a club where I play with my children, and I do this during my breaks. In addition, I went to a voice actor training school, so I may have spent more time on acting. In addition to the day of class, everyone gathers in Yoyogi Park to practice and so on. Looking back, I feel like a very hard worker.

Q: In recent years, Ms. Tsuzaki has appeared in a number of works. From the standpoint of a voice actor, do you think you have changed or grown?

Suzaki: In the past 1 or 2 years, I didn't think about anything, I just thought about learning from my seniors. Maybe I don't have the time to think about "looking back, how" or something like that. However, if I spend a lot of time concentrating on one work now, I think it will be a great asset when I look back on it. I'm grateful that I've had more work than before. I think "I'm running out of time," but I think it's time to work hard.

Q: How do you approach your role?

Suzaki: Every time I encounter a variety of works, I start with a character, so I feel new to each character and maintain a challenging mentality. I hope that no matter how many teenagers will maintain this attitude, they will not forget their original intentions.

Q: What did the director and staff say to you, what impressed you?

Suzaki: When I was in "Girl Cut", I was very impressed by the instructions given by sound director Miwa Iwanami in episode 7. The man I starred in as Mako became a rich man. In this episode, Mako's usual bright feeling changes. Generally speaking, when I dub "The Girl in Order", I almost always use the dubbing of "The Girl in the Cut", but only that episode always fails to pass the voice acting of APRAT.

Q: It's too much of a contrast to the usual Mako, and it's hard to dub it.

Suzaki: It's very difficult. Because I always feel very cheerful in my pronunciation. When they don't do it well, some people will keep doing it until it is OK...... However, Mr. Iwanami put this scene until the end. AFTER DUBBING THE ENTIRE BPART, HE SAID, "SO, LET'S GO BACK TO APRAT, SHALL WE?" This time, I suddenly had a feeling, and I thought, "Ah, in order to make that plot in BPART stand out, this must be a chill here", so I went to guò. What I learned from "The Girl Who Cut Down" is to know what kind of meaning each shot contains in the whole work, how to prioritize it, and the position of your own characters in the work.

Q: So did the senior voice actors give you any kind of advice?

Suzaki: At the scene of "Cutting the Girl", I got a lot of guidance! Ms. Yuzuki Ryoka, Mr. Keno Nakari, said to me, "It's better to bring more playfulness to show you" and "If you do this, you will look more handsome." This has also benefited me a lot.

Q: Mako is always playing there, and she is also a healing character for the audience, so according to the opinions of her predecessors, she can really make the character more distinct.

Suzaki: But I realized at the audition that Mako occupies the position of a "healing character" in the atmosphere and environment of "Cutting Girl". And based on that, I began to create the character of Mako in my own mind. In short, in a good sense, this is an unclear work, a work like a tonkatsu, and Mako is the symbol of the work. Although I also thought that "I want to be more fun", I can only do my best to show it.

Q: At the end of the dubbing of "Cutting Girl", how did Ms. Suzaki feel?

Tsuzaki: I feel like "I really graduated this time~ It's so lonely." "It's the first time I've appeared in a semi-annual work, so my first instinct is loneliness. Others have said about this as the so-called "slashing loss". And I was infected. However, it was a state of "being so lonely that it seemed like ...... meeting everyone", but we talked about the celebration trip, so it was a little more relaxed now (laughs).

Q: In the new winter season, you also starred in "Idol Master Cinderella", "Fleet Collection" and "Assassination Classroom", so what kind of role do you want to challenge in the future?

Suzaki: I want to voice the boys' characters. Also, how did I say it before, I feel that the characters I dub are often the kind of children who are very cheerful, or honor students. Rarely exposed to darker characters or bad kids. Therefore, if I can play this kind of role, I think I can improve my level as an actor. I also want to try my hand at narrating and acting for overseas movies.

Q: Finally, tell us about your ambitions.

Tsuzaki: I'm a big fan of "giving a voice to a character". In order to convey my voice to more people in the future, I will strive to participate in a variety of works!

Q: Thank you for your time today!
