The cutest Captain America! Interview with rookie voice actor Nozomi Yamamoto
Every year, a large number of newcomers emerge in the Japanese voice actor industry, and for this reason, the Japanese media specially produced a program called "New Voice Actor Illustrated Guide". The show interviews and reports on some of the most promising rookie voice actors, to understand the behind-the-scenes stories of their entry into the industry, and their prospects for the future. In the latest issue of the "Rookie Voice Actor Guide", we will introduce Nozomi Yamamoto, who has starred in works such as "I Have Few Friends" (Kusuyuki Muraku) and "Women's Rakugoku" (Hatami-tei Teinto).
Q: Ms. Yamamoto has been interviewed in our "50 Q&A of the Voice Actor Wheel" before, thank you very much! At that time, you asked Ms. Sakura Ayane a "homework question" that said, "Please seriously think about a date plan with me (laughs)", and Ms. Sakura replied, "Animate, karaoke, meat, my house."
Yamamoto: That's a good plan! I grabbed my heart tightly (laughs).
Q: She also said that she would "pay close attention" to Ms. Yamamoto in various places in the future......
Yamamoto: Hahaha! That's why she was able to capture my heart (laughs). Ayane knows me very well (laughs).
Q: We've taken a look at your recent tweets and feel like you're getting more and more interested.
Yamamoto: That's right~ I've been getting more active lately (laughs). I used to like to stay at home and roll around during the holidays, but recently I've become more fond of going out. I go to the movies, swim ...... I used to be a standard landlubber, but now I can swim up to 15 meters in. Also, I love cooking and care a lot about the choice of utensils, and I post them on Twitter. However, since I started trying to grow bean seedlings, I have gradually taken on the challenge of growing tomatoes, mint and blueberries.
Q: That's amazing! Looks like you're having a lot of fun eating.
Yamamoto: Yes. My balcony is called a "vegetable patch" because of the variety of plants planted on it (laughs). I also like to make zuò cocktails with mint. Like a mojito or something.
Q: So are you a good drinker?
Yamamoto: I'm not that good at drinking. Usually you can drink about one cup, at most three cups of Cheng dù. The reason why I started making zuò cocktails was also influenced by the people around me. For example, when discussing works or dubbing live banquets, there are many people who are very familiar with information such as shochu. On such an occasion, it would be impossible if I didn't know a little about alcohol. So with this casual mentality, I felt that if I made a zuò cocktail, it would be very handsome (laughs). However, when I buy a mint set, I also get a cockpstick, a measuring glass, and I also buy a book. But if you think about it, it seems that there must be a wine glass and a bar...... Gin, Campari, Lamb, and many more. And Lamb is also black and white...... Ah! What to do! (laughs)
From my childhood to now, I feel that a lot has changed between the ages of 25~26. This is also the stage where I became an adult...... In my mind, I feel like watching a movie and drinking a DVD is the best adult image (laughs). Then I would choose those movie-friendly cocktails from the book and think "let's do this, then!" Ah oops, there is no such liquor in Riku! "Then I went back the next day to buy it. Hey, there's so much alcohol (laughs).
Q: What kind of cocktails have you been making lately?
Yamamoto: A cocktail bar perfect for watching The Hangover. According to my understanding, it is actually very suitable for drinking beer while watching this film, but it is not a cocktail. SO ZUÒ MADE MINTBEER! Cocktails are completely different in color and taste, so it's a lot of fun to make them.
Q: So do you also go to a bar and ask the bartender to mix for you?
Yamamoto: Yes! When it comes to bars, if I tell the bartender, "I want something sweet," I get an original cocktail. Then I asked the bartender what kind of ideas he used to make it and what materials he used. Then I tried to reproduce it at home. I know of a bar where the bartender will show me how to bartending whenever you need it! They use cocktails about the same size as matryoshka dolls, which are rotated with the largest ones...... That's great.
Q: Miss Yamamoto's own original cocktail is also good......
Yamamoto: Actually, I thought it would be nice if I could make a cocktail that suited my role. If there is an opportunity for fans to try it, then I think it would be great for me to cultivate this interest.
Q: It seems that you've been obsessed with American comic book adaptations lately. So what was the opportunity......?
Yamamoto: I was probably going to play at Mare-chan Uchida's house last year, so that's how it happened. Shinre-chan himself likes American manga movies very much, and at that time, because we were chatting, so we turned it on mute. However, the one on the screen is "The Avengers". Although there is no sound, I feel a wonderful oppressive force, and those handsome movements are also fascinating. I asked, "What kind of movie is this?" Then Shinre-chan replied: "This is called "The Avengers", and the work is a collection of characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. "So if I don't see all of them, I won't have fun, right?" "Yes!" "Huh? Then don't just let it go, turn on the sound and watch! "(laughs) I really watched all of these series and thought they were awesome and fun (laughs).
Meiman can make people feel excited, and after each work, it can be used as a means of relaxation, and it can also allow me to learn a lot of acting knowledge. First, I looked at the subtitles, then I looked at the expressions and lines of the characters, and thought about "What would I do if I were to act?" "Then I tried to blow the work.
Q: Speaking of which, which side do you support?
Yamamoto: I'm the main character! The straightforward character and merits of the heroes are sometimes misunderstood, which also makes them feel distressed, but this scene just makes me feel very handsome. For example, Captain America is a war hero who fights with patriotism and a sense of justice, but suffers the bitter experience of the death of his comrades. But he didn't get depressed about it, which made me feel so handsome and sad at the same time (laughs)! I think in my mind, Captain America is a "cute character" (laughs).
Q: It feels like your life has changed drastically (laughs).
Yamamoto: That's right. I want to be able to make every day more fulfilling, but it's more difficult. But unexpectedly, I felt like I had adapted to this life very smoothly. Now when I wake up in the morning, I go and water the plants as a matter of course, just like brushing my teeth. And swimming and watching movies have also been integrated into their lives.
Q: Next, please allow me to ask about the roles that Miss Yamamoto has played before! What do you think is the most impressive work right now?
Yamamoto: My first major role was in UN-GO, and now I'm still nervous when I hear the title. I was impressed by this. And this is also the first work I participated in as the main character, so I was really nervous and hard! However, Aisei Toyosaki and Shinichiro Miki, who starred with me, both looked at me tenderly. They told me that the way to use the microphone was completely different from the training room. However, while studying, I was worried that I would not interfere with the microphones of my predecessors! (laughs). The sound director always gave me very detailed instructions, but I always replied, "Yes!" I know! I'll try to do it! "But I always put my own ideas into practice, and the result is that I make mistakes repeatedly. However, as the number of recordings increased, I gradually got used to the atmosphere of the dubbing scene and the way I faced the characters. Although I was still nervous, I also developed a sense of self-awareness: I was also one of the members of the production of zuò works.
Q: Do you have a time when someone is troubled?
Yamamoto: Yes. In fact, sometimes I feel like I'm so unproductive that I cry. However, I felt that this would cause problems for everyone, so I decided that I would never cry at the dubbing scene. But still on the way home...... Now that I think about it, I think it's because I met Kaisheng I-chan (a character who appeared in "UN-GO") that I have the person I am today. From that point on, I decided not to embarrass myself with my acting skills and make myself proud. So, she's a very important role in my mind.
Q: You also starred in two seasons of "I Have Few Friends", and served as the voice of Kusuyukimura in the work.
Yamamoto: This is the first time I've auditioned for a voice actor. In addition to animation, I also took on various challenges including games, exclusive events, songs, etc. In addition, there are figurines, and in short, I pay attention to Yukimura from various aspects, which makes people happy. And it's also the first time I've tried to broadcast alone! Everyone at the dubbing scene is also very gentle. Until now, I sometimes go to dinner with Kanae Ito and Marina Inoue. I have a prejudice, and I feel that my predecessors are the most terrible kind of beings (laughs). But in fact, this is not the case, and it is precisely because they are seniors that I can consult with them about various things and gain a lot of knowledge. And sometimes they are more strict, which makes people feel very reassured.
Q: You dubbed Chijia Ogi in "The Second Generation of the Current Television Research Institute", which is also impressive!
Yamamoto: For this work, I honestly felt the pressure as well. She's the president of the current research institute, and she's the second-generation purpose (laughs). In her heart, there is a feeling of "I want everyone to unite" and the mood of "I hope I can be recognized by Chika Ogi for the purpose of the second generation". However, I myself am a fan of "Present Vision Research", and I feel that it is my dedication to chasing works that can finally reap the rewards. And this feeling eventually became a reality...... Being able to appear in this work is also my best memory of the summer of 2013. At that time, Niconico was also doing a weekly live delivery, and the last time I lived, I cried (laughs). THE LIVE TV BROADCAST ENDED AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE NICONICO LIVE BROADCAST, SO WHILE I WAS RELIEVED, IT ALSO MADE ME FEEL LONELY...... It was a great encounter and it will be a precious memory for me.
Q: As the list of works increases, you are constantly being recalled.
Yamamoto: That's right. I feel like I'm enjoying my youth. I didn't think this often when I was a student (laughs), but since I started working, I've found myself spending my youth with various works and characters. At the same time, I feel myself growing as a person. When I was a student, I didn't have access to all kinds of information. Personally, I feel like I'm closed off from the country...... (laughs)
Q: What kind of state is that?
Yamamoto: It just makes you feel like no one can approach you (laughs). I didn't feel happy myself, but I had a strange thought in my mind: I just need to be accompanied by anime and dreams. Now, I feel like my past self is so pitiful (laughs). If I had the time machine qì in "Back to the Future" in front of me now, then I would definitely go back to the past and complain: "What the hell is wrong with you? "(laughs) I used to be more open-minded. But maybe everyone will have similar misunderstandings when they were in junior high school. But at that time, it was because I thought that my dream was only to become a voice actor, and now I can really become a voice actor and enjoy the beauty of youth.
Q: While you are enjoying your youth, what kind of voice actor do you hope to be?
Yamamoto: I think it's enough to be able to do all kinds of things as a voice actor. Not to mention the performances, singing, dancing, broadcasting, and going to the zoo to try horseback riding are also good. Recently, I tried Motioncapture technology on a live show called "みならいディーバ", which is a job that allows my movements to be reflected in the characters. And I feel that Tongguò's job is beyond the framework of a voice actor. In the future, I will continue to maintain my current posture, repeat more challenges, and return to the basics.
Q: So, you want to experience various things.
Yamamoto: That's right. Either way, my favorite part is the role. It would be nice if the happy things that I experienced in my daily life could be reflected in the characters through transformation. I will use myself as a vehicle to convert the nutrients I absorb into love and pass it on to the characters...... That's pretty much what it feels like (laughs). That's my personal, love for the character.
Q: So, would you like to conclude with Miss Yamamoto a few words for the readers who read this interview?
Yamamoto: There's something that has surprised me lately. It's like, "I've been there in a lot of places." Nowadays, there are many types of characters to play, and in exclusive events and broadcasts, the things that come out of the table are different depending on the people and the content of the performances together. Yamamoto hopes that this person will also be able to further expand his horizons and make everyone happy in order to become an entertainment medium. I'm going to experience all kinds of things (laughs). Finally, if people can look at my character and see me smile in person, then I will be honored. I think that's the most enjoyable thing about being a voice actor.
Q: Thank you for your time today!
