Chapter 3 Zheng Zhuang Gong Xiaoba Central Plains
In the early Spring and Autumn period of the vassal states, the relationship between Zheng and the Zhou royal family was more close and frequent, when moving eastward, Zheng Wugong escorted King Zhou Ping to Luoyang, and was named a secretary for his meritorious service, participated in the political decision-making of the Zhou royal family, and also obtained a lot of land as a reward, in the second year Zheng Wugong moved the capital of Zheng to Xinzheng, which is the new political north of Henan today, because of the fertile soil here, convenient transportation, Zhengguo quickly became the most powerful vassal state at that time.
Zheng Wugong's wife was the daughter of Shen Guojun, Wu Jiang, and she gave birth to two sons for Zheng Wugong, the eldest son was born in his sleep, and there is a theory that she gave birth to a difficult birth. Hence the name Kousheng. Because it was not smooth to give birth to this eldest son, Wu Jiang has always disliked this eldest son. Because "the people love their children", Wu Jiang is very partial to his youngest son Shu Duan.
In fact, it doesn't matter which child a mother prefers, the important thing is that Wu Jiang's attitude caused a civil strife in Zheng Guo, the cause of which was that Wu Jiang tried his best to persuade Zheng Wugong to make his youngest son Shu Duan the crown prince, and inherit Zheng Guo's foundation after a hundred years of Wu Gong, but in the early Spring and Autumn Period when the patriarchal system still existed, abolishing Chang Liyu was equivalent to opening the door to thieves in the eyes of people.
So in 743 BC Zheng Wugong died, as the eldest son of Zheng successfully inherited his father's position, known as Zheng Zhuang Gong, Wu Jiang saw that his beloved youngest son failed to become the monarch of Zheng Guoguo, and felt very heartbroken. He put out his mother's shelf and asked Zheng Zhuang Gong to bring the system to Shuduan, which is the Tiger Prison Pass near Surabaya, Henan today, as a fief.
Zheng Zhuanggong refused, so Zhuang Gong's mother persuaded Zheng Zhuanggong through the teary mode, and asked him to give another place, Jingyi, which is near today's Xingyang, Henan, to Shu Duan, and since then Shu Duan has been called the capital uncle according to the fief.
At that time, Zheng Guo's doctor Zhong proposed to Zheng Zhuang Gong that the territory of Jingyi was too large, exceeding 1/3 of the entire Zheng State, which violated the will of the previous king and divided Jingyi to the uncle of the capital, which was a dangerous thing for Zheng Guo and Zheng Zhuang Gong, and Zhuang Gong pretended to be helpless when he heard it. That's my mother's request. What else can a son say?
Sai Zhong said: "How can the Jiang clan be satisfied, please make plans early, don't let his power spread, otherwise the consequences will be difficult to control" Zheng Zhuanggong looked like Mimi, who had already made up his mind, smiled and said: "Don't worry, if you do too much injustice, you will kill yourself, wait and see and take your time." ”
Soon after, the Imperial Uncles of Jingcheng ordered the western and northern borders of Zheng to submit to him, and later simply included them in his fiefdoms. Seeing the unscrupulous expansion of his sphere of influence by the uncle of the capital, Gongzi Lu warned Zheng Zhuanggong many times, "There are no two days in the sky, and there are no two masters for the people." ”
Zheng Zhuanggong was ostensibly indifferent to his younger brother's efforts and expansion, but in fact, he had secretly sent out eyeliner to listen to the news by the side of Uncle Tai in the capital. As soon as their plan to launch a rebellion was finalized, Zheng Zhuanggong quickly learned the news and decided to strike first, so he ordered Gongzi Lu to lead 200 chariots to attack Jingyi. After all, the officials and people of the capital are still loyal to the righteous Zheng Zhuang Gong, at this time they saw the mighty 200 chariots, and the fierce soldiers came to the city, so they betrayed the capital uncle, and the rebellious uncle Duan fled to Yanyi, near Yanling in Henan today, Zheng Zhuang Gong sent an army to attack Yanyi, Shu Duan had to flee to Gongyi farther away, in order to completely eradicate the evacuated forces, Zheng Zhuang Gong who returned triumphantly drove his mother Wu Jiang out of the palace.
He also made an oath and said: "If you are not as good as Huangquan, you will not see each other." "About this civil strife in Zheng Guo. The record in "Spring and Autumn" is very brief, only 9 words. "Xia May, Zheng Boke Duan Yuyan" is very rich in information of the 9 words, Shu Duan is the younger brother of Zheng Zhuanggong and the son of Zheng Wugong, but neither his younger brother nor his son-in-law identity is not mentioned here, this is because the author of "Spring and Autumn" believes that Shu Duan, as a younger brother, led an army to rebel and attack his brother, which violated the meaning of filial piety, so he condemned it with such a statement.
And Zheng Zhuang Gong is a duke and is called Zheng Bo here because, the author believes that Zheng Zhuang Gong, as an elder brother, did not teach Shu Duan well and fulfill his brother's responsibilities, but made people watch his younger brother embark on a negative path, which is obviously scheming, so he is sarcastic with such a title.
After the end of the rebellion, he did not treat his mother well, and this matter became the handle of Zheng Zhuanggong's accusation, so at the suggestion of Uncle Ying Kao, he sent someone to dig a tunnel deep into the ground where the groundwater could be seen, and then asked his mother Wu Jiang to meet in the tunnel, Wu Jiang and Zheng Zhuanggong are mother-son after all, not to mention that Zheng Zhuanggong is already her only hope, so she quickly and cheerfully followed the people sent by Zheng Zhuanggong to the tunnel to wait for his eldest son, hoping that the son would come.
The things that followed were also very ceremonial, and when he saw his mother, Zheng Zhuanggong excitedly wrote a poem and said: "In the tunnel, the joy is also harmonious." Wu Jiang also wrote a poem: "Outside the tunnel, its joy is also vented." ”
After this friendly meeting, Wu Jiang was well served, and Zheng Zhuanggong was cleared of the charge of unfilial piety and became a praised virtuous monarch again, and Zheng's civil strife came to an end.
Personally, I feel that both parties still put their own personal interests first. Wu Jiang is thinking about the rest of his life. And Zheng Zhuang Gong is just to consolidate his rule in the name of filial piety. It is a good choice for the two to be in the same boat and complement each other.
