Section 8 Taiwan or Hainan
Where to choose to cross? It's not just a location, it's about where they started the game.
A haode start means half the battle. Traversers are mostly game-loving, and they know that one of the keys to strategy games is to get a haode base position at the beginning of the game. For them, this base should meet:
1. There is a good agricultural foundation and can ensure the supply of food.
2. There is a certain population base, which can meet the labor demand of post-industrialization in the future.
3. There are abundant natural resources to meet the needs of industrialization.
4. Located in the coastal area, there are ports, and maritime trade is, after all, the easiest trade to accumulate wealth in this era.
5. It cannot be in the core area ruled by the Ming Dynasty, otherwise it will inevitably cause the Ming government to focus on encirclement and suppression.
6. Not in the land of the four wars. Whether it is Houjin, Chuang, Sacrifice and the like, it is not something that can be dealt with by the crossing people who have not yet established themselves.
7. It is easy to defend, and there are dangers of mountains, rivers and seas.
Obviously, there weren't many places on the plane they were going to that could meet such conditions.
As a matter of caution, this question was submitted to the discussion board for brainstorming.
On the Internet, the solutions put forward by everyone are basically concentrated in three places: Taiwan, Hainan, and Australia.
Australia received a lot of support, but the first one was shot. Not to mention whether Australia itself is suitable as a base for traversers, the reality is that it is impossible to get hundreds of traversers to Australia. There is basically no operability.
The island of Taiwan is a hot topic of discussion, and it can be called the best choice in terms of geographical location, natural conditions, and development potential. The island did not have the political institutions of the Ming Dynasty, and although the Dutch and Spanish had built cities, they could only entrench themselves in a corner, which belonged to the vacuum zone. However, Taiwan's tropical diseases are very serious, especially malaria, which hinders the entry of immigrants to a certain extent, and the degree of development is still very low at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and the population is even more sparse, so there is no human base for large-scale development.
In contrast, Hainan is much superior. Since the development of the Six Dynasties, by the end of the Ming Dynasty, it has been a county in the south of the country with hundreds of thousands of households. In the ten years of Yongle, there were 90,000 Han residents alone, with a population of 400,000 and abundant human resources. In terms of agriculture, by the 43rd year of Wanli, the official and private fields on the island reached 4.1 million mu.
What is even more rare is that the natural resources are not only abundant but also relatively complete, which is very suitable for industrialization. There are 88 kinds of minerals (including subspecies) on the island, 67 kinds of which have proven industrial development value, and gold ore, iron-rich ore, ilmenite and zircon ore are advantageous minerals.
The key to the pre-industrial era was coal and iron. Hainan Island has a rare large-scale iron-rich ore in China - Shilu Iron Mine, with an average iron content of 51% and reserves of 400 million tons, and it also has a variety of minerals. What is commendable is that the Shiroku iron ore is almost open-pit, and it can be mined by stripping the topsoil without the need for a costly tunnel system.
In terms of coal mines, Hainan only has inferior lignite, but across the Beibu Gulf, it is Vietnam's Quang Ninh Hongji Coal Mine, which has 200 million tons of open-pit reserves in this time and space, and billions of tons of high-quality anthracite coal under the ground.
With coal and iron, it is possible to produce steel on a large scale, and with steel, it is possible to complete the mechanization of various industries, and then manufacture industrial products in batches.
Ancient societies may have been able to produce amazing works of art, but they could not compete with the mass production of goods in industrial societies.
If there is any disadvantage of Hainan Island as a crossing base, it is that it is too close to the mainland, and the Ming government's rule in the local area is relatively tight, except for the inland Li District, most of the island is "the land of kings".
In this way, the Ming government will not give up easily, and will definitely spare no effort to conquer these ambitious outsiders - whether they are Xinbo Ni, Australia, or visitors from another time and space.
From the very beginning, the traverser will face a crusade from the local and Cantonese garrisons, and must resist the past in order to gain a firm foothold.
Hainan also has a long-term Li and Han contradictions, since the Yuan Dynasty, almost every three years on average on the island there will be a Li people riot, less than 30 years ago from 1627 they crossed, in the twenty-seventh year of Wanli (1599), Ding'an Li people and horses rioted, Dan, Ya, Lin Li people responded, the Ming government mobilized 100,000 troops to quell down. How to live in peace with the local Lebanese is another question.
Zuihou, Hainan history Shanghai thieves are very rampant, and many counties in Hainan do not have a north gate. In the South China Sea in the late Ming Dynasty, it was an era when all kinds of Chinese and foreign maritime merchants and pirates showed their powers, and both maritime merchants and pirates would not let go when they had the opportunity to plunder. Hainan, which is located on the main sea communication route, has suffered from it for a long time. As you can imagine, the Crossing Crowd with countless modern tools and supplies will be a big fat sheep that will be coveted in every way.
From this point of view, although Hainan has a better foundation than Taiwan, it is also facing much greater pressure.
"In this way, let's choose Taiwan." At the online meeting, after listening to some briefings by the Executive Committee on Hainan, someone said, "Taiwan has malaria, we can bring quinine, and we can also bring cinchona trees to plant in Taiwan." As for the population, there were so many displaced people in the late Ming Dynasty that it was not a problem to use grain and land as bait to transport hundreds of thousands of people over. ”
"Hundreds of thousands of transports, you said lightly, what kind of transport?" Someone immediately questioned it.
"Boat, we can use a 10,000-ton ship to cross the past, and load the supplies and people. The whole overlord of the sea doesn't want any cannons, and see who rushes up to hit it if he doesn't like it. ”
"Are you going to burn it alcohol or charcoal?"
"We have built our own ships, and Taiwan has high-quality logs."
"Okay, then tell me where the sailors are?"
"Sailors can be trained by themselves, and foreign sailors can be recruited in Macao as teachers."
"Joke, Zheng Chenggong's ships are all driven by foreigners? I can't get used to you guys who worship foreigners. ”
"Can cinchona trees be planted in Taiwan?"
"If you want to say so, the Leizhou Peninsula can't grow rubber, and it can't be grown."
"I'm talking about Taiwan, the Leizhou Peninsula and Taiwan are in one dimension?!"
……
When the topic began to talk about whether the treasure ship was a wooden 10,000-ton ship, whether Artemisia annua could prevent malaria, and then whether Chinese medicine was pseudoscience, Wen Desi quickly stopped everyone's enthusiasm, and Xiao Zishan proposed to speak.
"I think Hainan is more suitable." Xiao Zishan didn't speak just now, he supported Hainan in his heart, but he was not in a hurry to express his position, and when everyone made the pros and cons clear in the debate, he also lined up all aspects of the problem in his heart, and the focus of his speech was naturally there.
"Weishenme Hainan is more suitable than Taiwan, and in comparison with the requirements of the base areas we have put forward, Taiwan is far inferior to Hainan on several key issues.
"The first is the agricultural base. The real development of Taiwan's agriculture began with Zheng Chenggong's recovery of Taiwan and its use as a base for opposing the Qing Dynasty and restoring the Ming Dynasty -- almost in the mid-to-late 17th century. The year we chose was 1628. At this time, there was no agriculture at all, only a small amount of land cultivated by some coastal migrant villages. Hainan has at least 3.8 million mu of cooked land and dozens of water conservancy projects built over the past dynasties. Note that the number of acres of land is still registered, and there are quite a lot of land concealments in the Ming Dynasty.
"Demographically, there were very few Han Chinese immigrants in Taiwan in 1628. The large-scale industrial and agricultural construction that followed our crossing required a large number of people as labor. Taiwan's population could not meet the needs, so immigrants had to be imported from the beginning. Recruit displaced people, organize them to drag their families and families all the way through the county, and go to the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang to arrange shipping. This is a complex and heavy matter, involving the deployment of manpower and material resources to deal with officials at all levels in the Ming Dynasty...... Who among us has the experience and ability to do that?
"Even if you can get enough streams to the island. Follow-up is also difficult. The displaced people are basically poor and white, and they need to be prevented, relieved, resettled, and arranged for housing, seeds, and farm tools...... Where does all this stuff come from? With our early strength, we couldn't do such a big thing. In contrast, Hainan has a population of at least 400,000, which is enough to meet the needs of early development. ”
The discussion just now has exhausted the enthusiasm of the majority, and the irrational statements of some people have also aroused a sense of disgust among everyone. At this moment, Xiao Zishan's reasonable, well-founded and well-spoken speech was recognized by the majority of the people, and Hainan, the future base area, was determined by voting.
In this time and space at the end of the Ming Dynasty, Hainan set up Qiongzhou Mansion and led ten counties in three states: Qiongshan, Chengmai, Lingao, Ding'an, Wenchang, Lehui, Huitong, Changhua, Lingshui, and Thanksgiving ten counties; Danzhou, Wanzhou, Yazhou three states.
If you take out the Yuan and Ming fascicles of the Chinese historical atlas and browse them, you will find that the prefectures and counties of Hainan have just gone around the coast of the whole island. Historically, Hainan Island used to be the state of Li in the south and Han in the north, but after the Song Dynasty, it became Han outside and Li inside.
Among these prefectures and counties, Qiongshan-Chengmai-Lingao County has the longest development history and is the main Han concentration area and agricultural area on the island, where half of the Han population is concentrated.
Among these three places, Qiongshan County, which is the seat of Qiongzhou Prefecture, has the best basic environment: at the end of the Ming Dynasty, there were 3.83 million mu of registered official fields and private fields on the island, accounting for nearly a quarter of the county, and nearly 90,000 registered taxed people.
But at the same time, it was also the political and economic center of the Ming Dynasty on the island, and a large number of troops were stationed in peacetime. It also has political symbolic significance, and the loss of a border city like Qiongzhou will shake the Ming court enormously, needless to say, it will lead to a large-scale military attack.
Although Chengmai is not bad, it is close to Qiongshan County, and it is inevitably closer to the Hainan ruling center of the Ming Dynasty.
Lingao has become the most haode choice.
Lingao, this time and space, is an obscure small county in Hainan, far less famous than Haikou or Sanya, the economy is backward, tourism is almost blank, unless it is a travel friend who loves in-depth travel, most people do not know that there is such a place in Hainan. If you use a search engine to search for the word Lingao on the Internet, most of the entries are a sentence from the People's Liberation Army's campaign to cross the sea and liberate Hainan 60 years ago: The People's Liberation Army landed first at Lingaojiao. That's right, this Lingao angle is in Lingao County, less than twelve kilometers away from the county seat.
Although Lingao is unknown, it is a thousand-year-old county. Its history of establishing a county can be traced back to the five years of Wude in the Tang Dynasty. It is one of the earliest areas to be immigrated by Han immigrants on the mainland, and has a long history of development. Although Lingao is not as populous as Qiongshan, it also has a registered population of 25,000 in the 45th year of Wanli. The alluvial plains on both sides of the Wenlan River were developed earlier and formed a certain agricultural foundation. If it can be supplemented by the development of certain water conservancy facilities, the agricultural potential is very high. On this plane, Lingao is the land of fish and rice in Hainan.
zuihou, it is separated from Qiongzhou Mansion by a Chengmai, and if there is any trouble, it will not immediately face direct pressure from the Ming government. In terms of the communication conditions and work efficiency of the ancient dynasties, it is impossible to deal with the affairs of inter-state and cross-county in a month, and it is estimated that a place like Hainan will be longer.
After this issue, some other questions were raised one after another, but Lingao was no longer the base of the crossing at the beginning, and there was no longer any objection. In the concluding speech of the meeting, everyone agreed that this meeting was a "successful conference, a united conference, and a victorious conference". In later new shijie history textbooks, the convention was referred to as the "first Dai Daikai". Because there are too many representatives, and many people choose to stay in the old Shijie, the entire list can only be consulted in the "Old Shijie Cathedral" - theoretically not consulted.
