Chapter 4: Pete's Highlight Moment (Part II)
Pete saw the platoon commander's concerns, and without thinking about it, he suggested that the people of his squad should immediately go to the rescue with weapons and ammunition. Originally, it was not his turn to suggest here, after all, there were several squad leaders and sergeant majors, and it was not the turn of an ordinary corporal to directly point fingers. But during his time here, Pete was an old man in the entire platoon and still had some influence. Especially in his own infantry squad, because he calmly commanded his comrades to wait for help in the predicament last time, he was very convinced by his comrades-in-arms. So at this moment, he has the qualifications to speak, and at the same time he has the support of several comrades-in-arms around him.
The platoon commander looked at Pete and then at Pete's squad leader, originally he hoped that Pete could act as the squad leader of his squad, but a sergeant major was directly transferred from above to fill in the blank. This disappointed him, but there was nothing to say. But at this moment, is it really good to directly step over the squad leader and other non-commissioned officers and directly follow the advice of a corporal to decide the actions of the entire squad or even the entire platoon? But at this moment, Pete's squad leader didn't say a word, looking like he was waiting for an order.
The platoon commander suddenly felt a little disappointed at the moment, disappointed in the newly transferred guy, and at the same time a little annoyed with the guy Pete. But now is not the time to hesitate, what is needed most now is to make a choice, whether it is right or wrong, a decision is the most needed.
So the platoon commander took a deep breath and nodded to Pete, asking him to bring his squad of people except the squad leader to bring weapons and ammunition to support. He also asked Pete to ensure smooth contact, and to report the situation first and not act without authorization.
Pete, of course, had no problem with these requests, and in fact he was very grateful to his platoon commander in his heart. Because from the squad leader he left behind, it can be seen that the platoon commander actually handed over the command of this squad to him.
So Pete and his teammates in his squad threw away their backpacks, carrying only weapons and a large amount of ammunition, as well as first-aid kits and three folded stretchers, and then broke away from the group under the cover of the rest of the platoon, and quickly headed for Donovan's small village. Only this time they chose not to take a car, but chose to walk. Anyway, it's not very far away, the target is too big and easy to attack, Pete has been here for a long time, he knows that the other party always likes to hide in hidden places on both sides of the road at this time, ready to attack passing vehicles, and even has other IEDs (improvised bombs) prepared on the road.
The distance of three or four kilometers is not close or far, but it is not far, and the direction is not a problem. It was easy to find the village by looking in the general direction, as there was a fierce exchange of fire there.
Not long after they had walked out, there was a fierce sound of gunfire behind them, where they had set off, and you didn't need to look to know that it was the other side attacking again.
After about half an hour, Pete and his team arrived outside the village, and after a quick observation, they made contact with Donovan, who was still in the village.
Donovan didn't really have much of an impression of Pete's voice. But when Pete introduced himself, Doino immediately remembered the guy with the Asian face. Donovan was still a little surprised by Pete's timely appearance, although Pete's platoon commander had informed Donovan of the arrangement, but Donovan was not optimistic about the situation outside the village at the moment, otherwise Pete's platoon would not have been forced to stop halfway and not be able to pass. However, after hearing Pete tell him that he had come outside the village with a squad of men and supplies, Donovan was only slightly surprised and gave Pete the first order.
Donovan's composure could be seen in this order, and he rashly asked Pete to join him inside and out, but first let Pete do a quick reconnaissance outside the village. After all, Donovan was unaware of the situation outside the village, and he was worried that rash action would make him more vulnerable to attack by the other party. So he asked Pete to reconnoiter the surrounding area of the village first, not only to choose a retreat path for himself, but also to take out a few things that gave him a headache before retreating, such as the opponent's mortars and a recoilless gun.
And Pete, as soon as he received the order, went into action and quickly locked on the position of the opposing mortars. It's in a small courtyard just outside the village. At the same time, he advised Donovan to retreat from the southeast corner of the town, on the grounds that it was close to Donovan's location, and although there were many armed men at the entrance of the village, these people were not well concealed, and it was not a problem to defeat or run them away.
Donovan accepted Pete's suggestion without much thought, but then asked Pete to finish off the opponent's mortar first, so that he would not only stop people from being dodged by the shelling, so that he could gather and divert, but also attract the attention of the other party and make it easier for him to launch an attack here.
Pete did not hesitate when he received the order, but he did not act rashly. He immediately led people to re-touch the supplies, ammunition, ambulance, supplies and stretchers that the other party had brought to hide in the southeast corner of the village, and then made arrangements for his own people before touching them. After all, it is impossible to know how many people were in that courtyard. So Pete first chose a good position for the M249 machine gun. After assigning the cover group and reconfirming with Donovan, he led the people to attack the opponent's small courtyard.
He and another of his comrades fired several M203 grenades into the courtyard in succession with grenade launchers attached to M16 assault rifles. It was only after a series of explosions in the courtyard that he led the people into action.
No sooner had the explosion subsided than a series of shouts rang out around the courtyard. Some people found that Pete and the others were not enough, at most they were alerting their companions in other directions that they had been attacked here, and needed support or even rescue. And these shouts were undoubtedly telling Pete that they were coming.
And just as Pete and the others were touching the courtyard wall, a figure swayed out of a breach in the courtyard wall, looking like it was blown up.
Pete immediately pulled the trigger on the man, "Smack." Two shots rang out, and the man was hit and fell against the wall next to him. As soon as the man was killed, there was more noise around the courtyard. Immediately after, a machine gun rang out in Pete's left rear. Obviously, the other side really rushed to support the people who came. However, in the darkness, the attention of the militants who rushed to support was suddenly attracted by the machine guns. Pete and three people smoothly touched the courtyard wall, Pete under the cover of his companions, and another person each found a grenade and threw it into the courtyard, after the explosion Pete let the two people in cover continue to standby, and he and the other person touched into the courtyard.
