Chapter 56: Misfortune Comes from the Mouth

Ling Chunxuan and Zhai Hongsui are not stupid, they know that this is a poisonous plan by Yixuan and Yuan Shikai, and their plan is to squeeze Ling Chunxuan away first, so that Zhai Hongsui is lonely.

Ling Chunxuan then secretly played the Empress Dowager Cixi to expose the conspiracy of Yixuan and Yuan Shikai.

But Cixi said that Ling Chunxuan thought too much and insisted that he focus on the overall situation, which was to send him to a more important post.

Ling Chunxuan didn't give up, and looked for it a few more times, but the Empress Dowager Cixi was hard-hearted this time, and no matter how she said it, it was in vain.

Ling Chunxuan saw that it was irretrievable, and the last time she saw Cixi, she knelt down in the ground and cried bitterly again. said that he could go anywhere, but if he wanted to leave with confidence, he would be exempted.

Cixi said that Yixuan does not form a gang, there is only one problem - a little greedy. Is he greedy or not? Can Yixuan's great-grandfather, Emperor Qianlong, not know? I have calculated it a long time ago, no matter how greedy I am, how much can I eat? How much to drink? When the treasury is empty, and his house is raided, the treasury will not have money. I was greedy for a long time, but I wasn't greedy for the court.

Ling Chunxuan said: Yixuan's greed is not a day, and he is bent on bringing him down not only because he is greedy, but precisely because he is forming a gang. In fact, Yixuan is not terrible, what is terrible is Yuan Shikai, who plays with him in the palm of his hand, uses him and treats him as a puppet of the Beiyang faction.

Ling Chunxuan's hard work was not in vain, although he couldn't stay, Cixi really believed his words. Determined to take it down. Because, she can't help but be afraid of the strong Beiyang faction.

The reform of the official system, Zhai Hongsui played Yuan Shikai's book, which cannot but attract attention.

Because Guangxu told her a few times, if she doesn't get rid of Yuan Shikai now, it will be difficult when he becomes deeply rooted. She has not paid attention to it, and always feels that Guangxu wants to avenge the revenge of being denounced by Yuan Shikai for the Wuxu Change.

On this day, Yixuan was sick and retired, and the Empress Dowager Cixi summoned Zhai Hongsui alone, mainly to talk about how bad Yixuan's corrupt influence was, and to solicit Zhai Hongsui's opinion, who could take over Yixuan's position.

The intention is very clear, that is, to remove Yixuan.

Zhai Hongsui has been looking forward to this day and is overjoyed. When he got home, he accidentally told his wife about it.

His wife is also a fast-talking person, and quickly told the founder of Beijing Daily, the wife of Zhai Hongsui's protégé Wang Kangnian. Wang Kangnian's wife passed it on to Wang Kangnian. Wang Kangnian continued to spread the word, one to two, two to two, seventy-two to one hundred and eighteen.

Yi Xuan's greed is notoriously greedy, and greedy. Corrupt people are always unpopular and greedy. The punishment of the ruler must also be very happy; The good news spreads quickly.

As a result, the British "Qin Times" published the news that Yixuan had fallen out of favor and was about to withdraw from the Military Aircraft Department.

The British envoy in Beijing was shocked when he read the newspaper, fearing that it would affect Sino-British relations. Let his wife verify this matter when she attended the banquet of the Empress Dowager Cixi to entertain the wives of envoys from various countries.

The Empress Dowager Cixi was very frightened and angry. thought that he only told Zhai Hongsui about this matter, and he must have deliberately leaked it, and his purpose was to create a fait accompli and make her make up her mind.

Thinking that she was almost kidnapped by Zaiyu and her gang during the Boxer Rebellion, Cixi was so angry that she went crazy, isn't Zhai Hongsui also kidnapping her?

When Yixuan heard that he was about to be deposed, he was terrified and asked Yuan Shikai to plot countermeasures.

Yuan Shikai proposed that he must seize this rare opportunity to defeat Zhai Hongsui in one fell swoop.

They found their cronies, Yang Shiqi, a waiter of the Ministry of Agriculture and Industry and Commerce, to conspire and agreed that Yang Shiqi would draft a draft of the concert and bribe the imperial historian for impeachment.

But Zhai Hongsui enjoys a clear reputation, and Zhao Qilin's dismissal has not yet passed in the Metropolitan Procuratorate, and no one in the imperial history is willing to be bought.

Yang Shiqi finally found the very unambitious Hanlin Academy to study for a bachelor, Yu Yuding.

gave him 18,000 taels of silver, and made a wish to release him as a political envoy.

Yun Yuding must have done something very bad this time, but this is a very great person, now let's get to know him.

Yun Yuding (1862-1917), the word Weisun, the word Chengzhai, was a native of Daxing, Hebei, and his ancestral home was Changzhou, Jiangsu. In the fifteenth year of Guangxu, he was admitted to the Jinshi, successively served as a daily lecture and living note, a lecturer at the Hanlin Academy, an assistant in the National History Museum, a co-ordination, a general compiler, and a promotion, a school manager of Wenyuan Pavilion, the president of Xian'an Palace, a bachelor's student, the chief editor of the National History Museum, and the general office of the Constitutional Research Institute, and served as a court historian in the late Qing Dynasty for 19 years.

Like many literati in the Qing Dynasty, Yun Yuding kept a diary for decades. After his death, the diary was kept by his family, and several of the volumes were accidentally lost.

In 1960, Yun Baohui, the son of Yun Yuding, "returned all the 36 diaries to the Peking University Library".

Some historians have consulted and quoted these diaries in the library of Peking University, but due to the huge length of the entire diary and the difficulty of collating, it has not been published.

Mr. Shi Xiaofeng has worked hard for 10 years to complete the work of sorting out and proofreading, so that this precious historical material can be used as a reference by more researchers.

This "Yun Yuding Chengzhai Diary", which began in 1882 and ended in 1917, totals 1.2 million words, and is a comprehensive record of Yun Yuding's work and life for several decades.

Due to his work, Yun Yuding had the opportunity to observe the words and deeds of Cixi, Guangxu and the ministers of the imperial court up close; Out of professional habit, he meticulously recorded the details of his observations in his diary, recreating the scene for future generations.

During the routine New Year's celebrations, the visits of foreign envoys, the funerals of Cixi and Guangxu, and the accession of Xuantong to the throne, he did not shy away from trivial details, recording the ritual procedures, the color of the officials' uniforms, and the words and deeds of the relevant personnel one by one (such as remembering that several second-grade officials "talked loudly and laughed incessantly" at the funeral).

The diary's record of the last emperor Puyi's accession to the throne is often quoted by historians: "The cry of Suo Mu is very loud." …… The prisoner hugged him and walked, entered through the back door of the hall, ascended to the throne, and refused to sit down while crying. The prisoner stood on one foot, knelt on the throne with one leg, and stood on the throne. The four serving eunuchs comforted and persuaded them, and they cried incessantly, saying that they wanted to go home and did not want to be here. ”

Another example is the scene of Pu Yi's enrollment: "On the eighteenth, it was sunny. The emperor entered the school, and the dragon flag was hung. …… Master Lu wrote this cross and recognized it word by word. You can only know four words, and you can reciprocate and be familiar, but you are retreating. Yi Jiao Xi (the person who teaches the Qing text is called the teaching and learning, not called the master) first teaches the Qing text, and can remember two letters. ”

The Chongling Chuan Xinlu, which is included as an appendix, is a history of letters that describes the historical events of the late Qing Dynasty and has a great influence in the field of historiography.

Yu Ding was in the period when the Qing Dynasty was in decline, and he recorded in his diary that he was about the decline of the country and the corruption of the government. The anxiety and indignation of defeat have also put forward many opinions and propositions on saving the country and the strong.

For example, in Guangxu's diary in August 21, he made a detailed analysis of the eight reform methods put forward by officials, holding that some of them can be done at their discretion, while others should be adapted to the present law, and oppose simply copying Western laws.

His views on major issues such as the division of Jianghuai provinces and the management of Xinjiang still have a certain reference value when read today. The ideological situation of the intellectuals of the late Qing Dynasty embodied in the diary is representative to a certain extent.

Yun Yuding has the ambition of helping the world and saving the people, once wanted to show his talents in the locality, usually pay attention to the search for talents, and is willing to receive people from all over the world, and the diary records in detail the names, origins, specialties and so on of the people he sees, which is a valuable information for studying the characters of the late Qing Dynasty.

Yun Yuding has no ambition in his career, and has always been an ordinary Beijing official who does not have much power. However, working in the court and living in the market allowed him to fully develop his many hobbies, and his diary thus had a broader vision and richer content.

He is a historian, especially proficient in the "Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms", and his diary records many experiences in history;

He was a doctor who was quite conceited about his medical skills, and founded the "Medical Research Society" in 1910, and his diary often recorded that he treated patients from the powerful to the common people.

He was a collector of ancient books and excelled in bibliographies;

He is a calligrapher, quite the essence of Dongpo calligraphy;

He is a poet, and there is no shortage of records of poetry, wine, singing and harmony in his diary, and the poems recorded are in their true colors;

He was also a fan of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera, and had many contacts with famous singers at that time.

In addition, the diary also recorded a lot of customs at that time, such as "eating dreams" related to the imperial examination, some special customs related to entertainment, and "marriage robbery" within three days of the national funeral, etc., and even recorded "star aliens" (UFOs). The diary is rich in content and fluently written, which is not only a reference for professional workers, but also an interesting idle book for ordinary readers to increase their knowledge.

Of course, these are later words.

After Yu Yuding was bought, he immediately impeached Zhai Hongsui for "secretly informing the hall, instructing the official, conspiring with foreign aid, and distributing party henchmen".

The so-called "secret notification hall" refers to the "Beijing Daily" in the Yang Cuixi incident, the newspaper has published a series of articles, commenting on the severe punishment of Duan Zhigui and Zhu Baokui, Zhao Qilin's innocent dismissal, Zai Zhenzhi's vacancy, and sparing no effort to criticize Yixuan, which is manipulated by Zhai Hongsui behind his back.

The so-called "instructing the official" refers to Zhai Hongsui instructing Zhao Qilin to participate in the role of Yixuan's father and son.

The so-called "yin knot foreign aid" refers to the fact that the "Qin Times" published the incident of Yixuan's fall from grace.

The so-called "distribution of party henchmen" refers to Zhai Hongsui Zeng Tuo's legal department's sponsorship of his in-law Yu Zhaokang as the ministry's chief counselor.

At the same time, Yixuan and Yuan Shikai arranged people to make Zhai Hongsui in the imperial court is the remnant of Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao, and has been committed to returning the public opinion of Emperor Guangxu.

On 17 June, Cixi issued an order to vacate Zhai Hongsui and dismiss Yu Zhaokang.

Cixi's handling of Zhai Hongsui without verification was not because of the articles listed in the impeachment, but mainly because Zhai Hongsui dared to leak the matter of his secret discussion with him.

And the matter about Zhai Hongsui's dedication to returning to power Guangxu touched her most sensitive nerves even more. Because, she remembered that not long ago, Zhai Hongsui secretly asked for a pardon for Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao, and she was convinced of this.

Therefore, although he did not find out what he was involved in, he still refused to take back his ordination.
