When Bai Langjun returned to Henan's lair, he was still breathing, the soldiers left, and Zhao Wei's Yi army also arrived.

At this time, Yuan Shikai suddenly received a report of victory from Zhao Qi in Beijing: "According to Zhenhua, the commander of the Zhensong Army, Zhang Zhigong telegraphed that Jingmin, the former adjutant Jin and Jing Yuan, the captain of Wang, had infiltrated the bandits, and on the afternoon of 5 August, they killed the white bandits in Shizhuang, north of Daying, near Lushan. The corpses of the bandits have been dismantled and identified. ”

He also published Tian Wenlie's report: "Lang is corrupt, and the head has been removed from the car on the 8th, loaded with a wooden cage, and hung on the city wall of Yingxunmen."

On 9 August, President Yuan Da, who was overjoyed, issued a commendation order, appointing Zhao Kui as General Hongwei, Liu Zhenhua promoted to lieutenant general, and conferred five honors, and Zhang Zhigong was promoted to major general.

Unexpectedly, three days later, on 12 August, the Grand Presidential Office in Beijing revoked the order and accused the meritorious service.

Bai Lang's disturbance finally came to an end after Bai Lang's death.

Yuan Shikai was very proud of having such a person in his fellow villagers, so he was appointed secretary of the presidential office. Soon after, Yuan Shikai's cousin Zhang Zhenfang was transferred back from the governor of Henan Province and talked to Yuan Shikai about local talents.

Yuan Shikai suddenly remembered Duan Shiyuan and praised his article for being good.

Zhang Zhenfang immediately changed color and said, "He? is a member of the Old League. ”

Yuan Shikai's face also changed when he heard this, just like the Empress Dowager heard about the revolutionary party and the reformers. Detectives were immediately dispatched to closely monitor Duan Shiyuan's movements. The detectives would say that he was the ** captain sent by Huang Xing, and at another time, they would say that he had a secret correspondence with Ling Yue, another member of parliament of Bai Lang's military advisor.

Bai Lang's uprising was, in the final analysis, a peasant uprising. In the democratic revolution, the peasants, as a class, were not the representatives of the new productive forces. Everyone knows that the crowning achievement of the peasant uprising was the replacement of the old feudal rule with a new one.

In the world, China's feudal history is almost the longest. When scholars explore the reasons for this, some people point out that the main reason is the frequent occurrence of peasant uprisings in China's history. The reason is simple: if the peasant uprising can bring about a change of dynasty, it will generally ease the class contradictions. Wars and turmoil will always cause serious damage to the productive forces, leading to varying degrees of regression in the level of material production and the standard of material living. Historical materialism tells us that the fundamental motive force for the reform of the social system lies in the improvement of the material production level and material living standard of the society.

In other words, in general, the peasant revolt was the force that maintained feudal rule within a certain order.

From this point of view, under the historical conditions at that time, Bai Lang's uprising itself certainly had no future. However, in the revolution against feudal autocracy, the revolutionaries could play the role of allies if they made good use of an uprising similar to Bai Lang.

In terms of scale, Bai Lang's uprising was not very big, so the impact was so great, on the one hand, Yuan Shikai** infinitely exaggerated it from top to bottom; On the other hand, Bai Langjun has been supported by many people, which shows that Yuan Shikai's policy. The government is becoming more and more unpopular.

Almost all of China's feudal rulers were Confucius. Confucius's Confucianism undoubtedly catered to the needs of feudal rule, by restraining oneself, conforming one's thoughts and behaviors to feudal etiquette, morality, and norms, and maintaining feudal order.

Before the founding of the Republic of China, Kang Youwei, a representative of royalist thought, published articles such as "On the Republican Form of Government" and "On Salvation", talking about the unsuitability of the republic to China's national conditions. After the founding of the Republic of China, he vigorously attacked the revolutionaries led by Sun Yat-sen, believing that the crisis and chaos in China were caused by the revolutionaries. He preached that only by restoring the old system, the old order, and the old morality could China be saved and the crisis saved.

He believed that only by respecting Confucius and Confucianism can we achieve "the people's hearts are at home, the customs are oriented, the morality is fixed, and the education is accurate, and then politics can be taken one after another."

Therefore, he regarded the reverence for Confucius as a top priority, and called for the restoration of Confucius, the reading of the scriptures, and the establishment of Confuciusism as the state religion.

In October 1912, the "Confucian Church" was established in Shanghai, and Kang Youwei was elected as its president.

In a telegram to the Confucian Church, Kang Youwei said: "In the old days of Vietnam, the servants of the world were studying the religions and customs of all countries, living alone and thinking deeply, and weeping in the middle of the night, deeply worried that according to the scriptures of the troubled times, the great religion would fall to the ground. In the summer of last year, the unprecedented changes in the world, the beans were abolished, the strings were chanted, and they were deeply worried. ”

The "Founding Brochure of the Confucian Church" stipulates: "The purpose of this association is to promote Confucianism and help the society", "to take the study of learning as the body, and to help the society as the purpose." Imitate the rules of Bailu and abide by the township covenant of Lantian. worship Confucius to match God; Reciting the scriptures to learn from the saints...... It is hoped that we will save people's hearts, maintain the fortunes of the country, prosper the teachings of Confucius, and shine the light of China."

The "Confucian Church" is generally located in Shanghai, and branches have been set up in various counties in China, branches have been set up in cities and townships, and branches and branches have also been set up in foreign ports. "Anyone who sincerely believes in Confucianism, regardless of religion, type or country, must fill out a petition and be introduced by the introducer."

The conference is divided into the lecture department and the promotion department, the lecture department is responsible for preaching scriptures, science, political science, and literature, and the tasks of the promotion department are "preaching and transforming the people", "worshipping the saints and reading the scriptures", "examining the rites and customs", and "benevolence and love for things".

It is stipulated that a national congress shall be held once a year three days before the anniversary of the birth of Confucius, and an executive meeting shall be held once a month and once a quarter.

In 1913, Kang Youwei and others successively founded the "Confucian Church Magazine", "Xingshi Bao" and "Unbearable" magazine. Many similar groups have also been established in various places, such as the "Zongsheng Society" in Shanxi, the "Confucian Dao Society" in Shandong, and so on. The followers of the Confucian Church were centered in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Nanchang, Changsha and other cities, and in the name and form of holding "poetry societies" and "Bible reading societies" to attract believers and expand their influence.

The Confucian Church vigorously attacked the democratic republic, slandered the concept of freedom and equality, and slandered the revolution for causing social chaos.

In the "Confucian Church Magazine", there was an article signed by the entire Confucian Church entitled "Reprimanding the Beijing Education Society for Destroying Confucianism", which pointed out nakedly: "If China rebuilds a republican form of government today, there will be progress in political affairs. However, the discipline is not established, and the central and local governments are vaguely divided into more than a dozen countries, and there is no reunification. The rewards and punishments are reversed, and the arrogant and domineering people are not in a position of luxury, that is, they are bait and bribes. And the husband who refuses to take orders is a traitor and a criminal, and he turns a blind eye and does not dare to do anything. ”

"Since the founding of the republic, there has been even the slightest progress in political affairs, and we have only seen its regression." The republic leads to moral corruption, and "the people's hearts and customs are very good." It is a common practice, full of strange declines, shameless and shameful, unspeakable, black and white, chaotic in name and reality, nothing in the world is public, and the whole world is attacked."

Kang Youwei said in "Worship Heaven with Confucius": "Today, the Republic of China is built, known as the republic, and the heart of the world is undisciplined. ”

In the inscription of the "China Society Newspaper", it is said: "Confucius said: The Tangwu Revolution responds to the people by calling the sky." Revolution is the most common thing in China. However, the life of the revolution can be changed, but why should the life of China for thousands of years be reformed? Today, it is also a revolution in education, a revolution in discipline, a revolution in Taoism, a revolution in law-abiding, a revolution in etiquette, a revolution in the hearts of the people, and a revolution in the soul of the country. The fire burned the room, empty; Vast and unprepared, there is nothing to do, the wandering soul space, the wind and rain, thunder or earthquake, the desperate is the dynasty, the European service and the European calendar, and the coffin is frightened and married. Why are my compatriots so stupid as to it!"

Kang Youwei was extremely dissatisfied with the abolition of the worship of heaven and the abolition of primary school Bible reading since the republic, and he attacked: "Since the republic, the hundred gods have been abolished, and even God has not reported the book, Confucius has stopped the sacrifice, the Temple of Heaven has been bowed to lush grass, and the Temple of Literature has been paid hazelnut wattles...... Woohoo, China has not heard of any great changes in thousands of years. ”
