Chapter Twenty-Seven: There Are Always Children Who Are Unlucky
"Your Highness Anfangshou, no matter what, please!" *2
Zhixiu looked at the two masters lying on his stomach opposite, and was directly ignorant, is this something that can be asked for casually, such a big leak, who dares to care.
Especially your thick-eyed Saigo Takanaga, at the end of October of the second year of Bunkyu (1862), I Naohide left Edo and returned to the White Lord, when you Saigo came to send, didn't you specifically instruct you, muffled to make a fortune, and this was forgotten in less than a year?
Moreover, you Xixiang is really a bit of a pit for your teammates to do this, the family is looking for death by himself, you Satsuma can stand up for him, but you can ask the white lord to come, you earn affection and trouble, what is this!
But Naohide thought that his son had married Xijiu Ji this year, after all, this was the meaning of his children's in-laws, so he had to puff out his face, couldn't say anything, and finally sighed:
"Okay, Naohide does his best."
Yoshida Jufang and Saigo were overjoyed when they heard this, and they got up as soon as they grunted, and they were very proud of each other.
Choshu Yoshida, you can have a snack!
Actually, Naohide can also understand that this Changzhou is unlucky, but Yoshida took the opportunity to expand his strength, and now he has become a powerful minister, and he has a chance to show his ambitions, so he should be happy.
But Naohide felt that Yoshida was a little floating, but in fact, the trouble was not so easy to solve.
It turned out that on April 23, 1863, the third year of Bunkyu (1863), Shogun Ieshige announced in Kyoto that from May 10, the whole of Fuso would be in full swing, and that he would negotiate with Western countries to gradually abolish foreign trade.
As soon as the news spread, the people who were suffering from soaring prices were immediately excited.
Encouraged by this, Choshu bravely fired the first shotβon the 10th of May, the Mi merchant ship Pembroke was shelled by Choshu while passing through the Shimonoseki Strait.
When the news reached Kyoto, the small imperial court, which had always advocated rebellion, rejoiced, and "gave the red and white imperial flag to Kei Qin (the lord of Choshu) to benefit the governor."
In line with the idea that it is not a big deal to see the excitement, the imperial court also asked the neighboring feudal clans to assist:
"If you hear that the chief clan has started an army, and there may be people who stand by and watch, it will be very angry. It is advisable to work together and quickly play the work of sweeping. β
So, the Hizen Nabeshima family and Chikuzen Kuroda sent an envoy to Nagato, saying: "If your country is restored, reinforcements will be sent." β
Encouraged Choshu became even more excited, and then on 23 and 26 May, he successively shelled the Buddha Junxia and the Lan Madusa.
But then, Choshu began to be unlucky:
On June 1, the Mi battleship Wyoming came for revenge.
Originally, this battle was supposed to be a great defeat in Choshu, not only was Odaiba (fort) seriously damaged, but the ships were also not lightly damaged, and the two ships of the Rengo Maru and the Gengshin Maru were sunk, and only the Kakai Maru escaped; And the loss of the rice people was only more than a dozen dead and wounded.
But didn't Naohide get in, Choshu took the Napoleon cannon bought from the shogunate, and within a range of 1.5 kilometers, the Wyoming was smashed to pieces, so it was a big victory.
But the rice people refused to suffer this dumb loss, so they called friends and called the Francis again.
On 5 June, the Buddha's "Semiramis" and "Donkred" came to their aid, and the two sides did another game.
This time, there was no bonus of the opponent's underestimation of the enemy, and Changzhou and the three Mi and Buddha warships were tied, and both sides suffered casualties on both sides.
These three shelling of merchant ships and two warfighting fleets, Changzhou boasted that "in five battles with rice, Lan, and Buddha ships, there were victories and defeats for each other."
When the news came out, Fusang was in an uproar, feeling that the Nanban ghost was nothing great, and he regretted that he shouldn't have signed an unlucky trade agreement in the first place, and he should have been killed by force a long time ago.
It stands to reason that this is not a loss, how can Changzhou be considered unlucky?
Of course, it's because, next, the small ones came to the old ones.
On June 27, seven British ships, with three repaired Buddha and Mi warships, a total of ten warships, sailed to Changzhou Xiaguan.
This time, Choshu couldn't bear it anymore, and after running out of ammunition and food, the coalition forces went ashore and demolished Odaiba, not to mention the Napoleonic cannons bought from the shogunate, or other bronze cannons, all of which were robbed.
Moreover, the feudal soldiers who fought in array were also defeated and lost by Yoshiyi, and if it weren't for the extra strength of the peasant soldiers trained by Yoshida Jufang and others, this cold gun would have been a good thief, and Shimonoseki Town would have almost been swept away.
As for why the British have seven warships in Fuso, there is actually a reason:
Although the raw wheat incident did not happen under Naohide's intervention, in December of last year and the calendar, Takasugi Harun still took twelve little brothers and burned down the British Mansion under construction on Shinagawa Gotenyama.
This is the second time the mansion was burned, plus the second Dongzenji incident in May of the second year of Wenjiu, when the British also killed two guards, and the murderer was the shogunate
The guards who were sent, isn't this a slap in the face?
Therefore, in February of this year, England transferred a number of warships, the original intention was to deter the shogunate, but I didn't expect that the shogunate was quite honest, but in May Choshu jumped out on its own.
Anyway, being idle is idle, so it's good to take a trip to give the little brother a head.
In this way, Choshu, who bravely fired the first shot, was cleaned up by the three countries of England, Buddhism and Mi.
Moreover, Westerners are arrogant, and of course they have to make inches to win the war, and the lion even opened his mouth to ask for 620,000 pounds (about 3 million US dollars).
In Naohide's original world, a year later, in September 1864, the Shikoku fleet bombarded Shimonoseki, and the compensation demanded was this amount.
This coincidence can only be attributed to the robbers' misrepresentation.
These amounts of money are equivalent to about 2.57 million gold in Wan Yan's small judgment, which is equivalent to more than 190 yuan of Chinese silver, which is quite a lot. Even if you kill Changzhou, you won't be able to get this money.
What should I do if my little brother has no money to pay?
Of course, I asked his eldest brother for it.
As a result, the fleet of the Three Kingdoms diverted to Osaka and filed a claim for compensation with the shogunate.
However, when they arrived at Osaka, Westerners learned that the shogun Tokugawa Ieshige had set out on his way back to Edo on June 13, so ten warships continued to travel east to collect debts.
When a man sits at home, evil comes from heaven.
Jiamao went to Luo on February 13 and arrived in Kyoto on March 4, and was tossed half to death by the Gongwu combination, but as soon as he arrived home in mid-July, before he could catch his breath, this Westerner came to ask for an account.
He and Qingyong held their stomachs in Kyoto, and this time they were completely blown up:
"There is no one to ask for money, it's not that the court wants to kill it, and 'give the red and white imperial flag to Qingqin, so as to benefit the governor and encourage Yan', so that Westerners can ask the court for money!"
The ministers persuaded and persuaded alive, so there was no big incident.
But how to answer the Westerners correctly, everyone can't come up with a good idea:
Originally, Edo was opposed to the use of force, and even though Kyoto was persecuted by the imperial court and various families, the edict of April 23 said, "If they attack, they will be swept away, and if I am aggressive, we will not start a war."
Now the Changzhou Maori family took the initiative to provoke, and then was beaten up, which is a matter of the shogunate.
Theoretically, whoever digs the pit will fill it, and let the foreigners ask for money from Changzhou and the small imperial court.
But having said that, if you really don't care, won't the feudal system be completely finished - if you can't afford it, how can you take the lead.
Besides, the blue eyes of foreigners can't see gold, and Changzhou will definitely not be able to come up with this money, so it will not have to rely on the shogunate.
But with such a large amount of money, the shogunate couldn't come up with it for a while.
Everyone discussed and discussed, and they couldn't wait to break the jar and break it, so let's just use force to destroy it - we can fight, everything is easy to say; If you can't beat it, you love it!
But after the grumbling is over, the matter still has to be dealt with.
At this time, the foreign government also inquired with the foreigner to understand that in fact, the foreigner did not have to ask for the money, and they gave a quid pro quo:
In the Ansei trade agreement of that year, in addition to the three ports of Nagasaki, Yokohama, and Hakodate, which have now been opened, the opening time of the two ports and two cities was also stipulated.
In other words, Niigata Port was opened on December 9, 1860, the first year of Bunhisa (January 1, 1862), and the port of Hyogo and Osaka opened on November 12, 1863.
Among them, the port of Niigata, because of the cheating of the waterway, as soon as the shogunate discussed with the foreigners, they easily gave up; But Hyogo, Edo and Osaka, this foreigner is staring very closely.
But after the opening of the three ports, there was a lot of trouble, and the shogunate did not dare to continue to enforce it according to the agreement.
Therefore, in December of the first year of Fumihisa (January 1862), the shogunate sent a mission to Europa to ask for an extension of the 36 people.
When the mission returned in December last year, the notice was approved by the local English government for an extension, so the Western powers had no choice but to agree to the extension.
But now, taking advantage of the Shimonoseki incident, the people collectively repented and demanded that in addition to Niigata, Hyogo, Edo, and Osaka should be opened immediately.
Either lose money or open a port, anyway, you have to choose one of the two roads.
Losing money, it's very painful; Open the port, isn't it funny, announced in April, and then opened the port in July, this bend is too urgent, and no one's waist can stand it.
In the end, in desperation, the shogunate center came up with a solution that was not a solution:
First of all, this incident was provoked by Choshu, and the Maori family couldn't hide from it, so they asked the head of the family, Keiko, and his son to come to Edo and deal with the matter together.
Secondly, this sky-high asking price is to pay back on the spot, 620,000 pounds is too much,
Have a good talk with foreigners, this should be reduced somewhat.
In the end, isn't it a combination of public and military forces now, and this trouble has to be thrown to the small court in Kyoto, and it just so happens that the general Hou Kei is also there, so they also have a headache.
However, there is a great risk in the Imperial Court, what if Kyoto directly lifts the table and asks the shogunate to destroy it by force?
Now, General Jiamao and Elder Qingxi have also accepted their fate, rather than being killed by pig teammates like this, it is better to break up in two, what should I do.
These are the events that took place in the middle of July in the third year of Bunjiu (1863).
Edo was so ruthless, saying that whoever likes to be killed by force will take it by himself, and the shogunate is resolutely refusing to do it, so things can become interesting.
At this time, the small court and the princes in Kyoto had already received the news of the defeat of Choshu, and they were threatened by the rupture of the shogunate, so they did not stand up and slammed it, and suddenly turned the wind up and down:
"This is also a matter of method, and you can't do it without brains."
This is brainless, isn't it Changzhou.
On August 18, 27 princes, including Keiki Rytsu, drove out of Kyoto with seven ministers, Choshu feudal soldiers, and ronin, totaling more than 1,000 people.
At this point, Changzhou, which fired the first cannon, was first defeated, and then abandoned by the imperial court and allies, and directly turned from Fengyun'er to an unlucky child, and its prospects looked very bad.
As a result, the head of the Maori family in Changzhou regretted it again, and was very resentful of the retainers who originally insisted on using force, thinking that these people were to blame.
At this time, Yoshida Jufang, who was close to him, offered a plan:
Since the imperial court was unreliable, it could only ease relations with the shogunate.
The head of the Shimazu family, Qi Bin, has now become the head of the foreign daimyos, and his relationship with the shogunate is very close, so asking Qi Bin is the only way for the Maori family to survive now.
Before, Yoshida had always dissuaded Keijin from rashly attacking, but because Kei's ears were soft, and whoever had a loud voice he listened to, Yoshida failed to make contributions.
Now, Yoshida, who has shown foresight, has once again offered his plan, and he can't help but pay attention to it.
So, Yoshida was entrusted by the head of the family and began to fight for the survival of the Maori family:
He went to Kagoshima, and after meeting Shimazu Saibin, he counted the relationship between the two families, especially the Sacho trade.
It turned out that since the 6th year of Ansei (1859), Satsuma had exchanged sugar and other goods for household goods such as rice and cotton from Choshu, which was of great benefit to both sides.
With this friendship, Qi Bin is also a little difficult to shirk.
Therefore, after getting the promise of the Mori family, the Shimazu family will be the head of the horse, Qi Bin asked Saigo Takanaga to come forward to cooperate with Yoshida's action.
And Saigo's idea for Yoshida was:
The bell must also be tied to the bell person, the Maori family's misfortune began in the slaughter, that root is actually not in the shogunate but on the foreigners, only the foreigners loosen their mouths, and there is room for activity in the shogunate.
Therefore, only by taking advantage of the relationship with foreigners can the Maori family be saved.
But although Yoshida Jufang has been to England, he has been useless in the previous negotiations in Shimonoseki, except for getting praise for good English, the foreigners have no intention of reconciling with Choshu at all - they can't get enough benefits, and they don't have anything to talk about.
Moreover, the British Huitong Foreign Bank, who has been in contact with Yoshida, also said that he couldn't help, "It's all fought, and it's too late to say anything." β
At a loss for Yoshida, Saigo smiled slightly:
"Our relationship is not enough, someone can do it,"
So, in October of the third year of Wenjiu (1863), these two went to the white lord to ask Naoxiu for help.
After all kinds of hard begging, Naoxiu had no choice but to agree.
This is really retribution, Naoxiu is doing vertical and horizontal retribution, who would have thought that it would be self-defeating:
I thought that the shogunate was strong and should be able to suppress the radicals in the combination of public and military, but now that the Battle of Shimonoseki broke out a year early, how can this be reasonable!
But if it doesn't matter, it is really like the original outcome of the Battle of Shimonoseki, after the shogunate promised to pay compensation, the foreigners still did not give up, and forced Fuso to open the port and reduce taxes the next year, it would not be the end of the whole game of chess.
Therefore, these two people did not come to the door, and Naoxiu couldn't bear to make a move.
But the question is, why did Yoshida and Saigo come to him for help:
After this battle of Shimonoseki, Yoshida mastered the newly built Odd Soldier Team through the students, which turned his hands into clouds and rain, which was really terrifying;
As for Saigo, why do you think that you can solve the problem of negotiating with foreigners, this man is doing everything in the fall, don't be accidentally cheated by him.
Who said that it was easy to cross, and now that Naoxiu has finally encountered an unprecedented problem:
This chess player is about to become a pawn and play in person, what should he do?
