Chapter 33: The Prime Minister in Black

Yunshui is a kind of travel outfit, and the monk is a wonderful person.

For the side employer Eki Shigetaro, when he was young, the monk Xiunian may have been a figure who was reluctant to socialize, but now, the friendship between them is getting deeper and deeper.

Shigetaro was born as a feudal doctor, but he was famous for his Confucianism, and in the case of Westerners repeatedly overwhelmed the border, Shigetaro, who was an orthodox Confucian scholar, had to work hard to learn Western skills, and the pain of this change of thinking is not known.

It's like learning a foreign language in later generations, if it weren't for elementary school, whoever learns the pain will know.

And what's even more torturous is that Confucianism is based on morality, while Westernism is based on practicality, which is like the later generations of Huaiyang cuisine masters will become the chef of a Flannish restaurant by fate, which feels full of twists.

As a side employer, the mastermind of the daimyo, Shigetaro wants to praise the overall situation of the feudal government, so he has to compromise with reality, which is both luck and misfortune - luck is that he can open his eyes to the world, no, that is, the world is not beautiful.

At the end of the Edo period, the Tokugawa shogunate was crumbling, and the order that had been painstakingly maintained for centuries began to fall apart.

Everything is changing, and no one can tell what the future holds.

And the appearance of the monk Xiunian gave Shitaro relief:

When struggling in a predicament, someone can point out a "clear way" in advance, what a happy thing.

And what's even better is that in terms of thought, Xiunian can often hit the nail on the head, and the contradiction between Confucianism and Western doctrine can no longer make trouble and torture himself - but Shotaro didn't find that "from Confucianism to Neo-Confucianism, and then to the Western enlightenment ideology", Xiunian is going to change him step by step.

Of course, it is not easy to convince an old fox like Shirtaro who has eaten and seen it.

It's not easy to do!

If it is said that "inheriting the peerless, rising and destroying the country, and lifting the people" is the ambition of a ruler like Jiang Mu, then "becoming an ancestor" is the supreme dream of a monk - Xiunian is a monk, and this was also his ambition!

Hidenian was born in Edo Ueno Kaneiji Temple and was a personal disciple of the old resident (presiding).

Speaking of which, Kaneiji Temple is not only the main mountain of the Tendai sect in the Kanto region, but also one of the Bodhi temples of the Tokugawa family, where five princes were enshrined after their deaths.

Kaneiji's relationship with the Tokugawa family began with the first generation of residents, who was known as "Amami", who was trusted by Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, and is said to have not only advised Ieyasu but also personally campaigned for him. Tenkai lived a long life, and after that, he served the second and third generations of shoguns, all of whom were quite respected.

Because of his high position and power, Tianhai had a lot of influence on the political situation of the shogunate, so he was called the "black-clothed prime minister" by the people.

Xiunian grew up listening to the story of the ancestor, and Nannian was very longing for the owner of Nanguang, and when he was in high spirits, he also thought about meeting the master and then pointing out the country.

But fate is impermanent, after the death of the old resident, his personal disciples were suppressed, Xiunian was valued by the temple because of his intelligence since he was a child, where can he stand this, so he simply split up - in the fourth year of Jiayong (1851), he took some people away to North Ezo, and went to his friend when he was a teenager, and the then white lord acting official Naohide.

At this time, Xiu Nian's idol in life should no longer be the great monk Zhengtianhai, but replaced by a Zen master - can't you guide the country, and it's good to live a happy life.

According to Xiu Nian's thoughts, he sent charcoal to Zhixiu in the snow - he brought hundreds of immigrants, plus the friendship between the two in the past, at least in the white master, he Xiu Nian is undoubtedly a "great monk", although there are fewer people, but "I would rather be a chicken head than a phoenix tail".

Moreover, he also faintly has a hope, the process of straightening the hair is all in the eyes of Xiu Nian, and Wan has been soaring into the sky after the show, first in front of this chic Yixiu Zen master, and the high-powered Nanguang Fang owner may not have no chance in the future.

Of course, he didn't expect Naohide to be Ieyasu, the so-called picking up the bowl is full of vegetables, and it's okay for the small No. 1 Yuanguo to pursue it.

Xiu Nian didn't know that Zhixiu had already made his future clear - even if Xiu Nian didn't succeed, he would change a monk or a few dozens of monks, and Zhixiu would have to find the candidate in his mind.

At the end of the shogunate, the king was revered, and the banners were "royal government retro" and "Shenwu revival".

The "Shenwu" here refers to the legendary founding emperor of Fusang, and the characteristics of governance, in addition to "wise and holy martial arts", are "blessed by all gods" - mythological characters are like this, not that the great god is blessed

, that is, he is the Son of Heaven or the Son of God, so as to elevate his status so that he will not be questioned.

Because the Fuso royal family has been mythologized for thousands of years, and it has also made its ancestors the source of Fuso Shinto, this "royal government retro" and "Shenwu revival" are of course inseparable from the support of the basic plate "Shinto".

But the support is mutual, so after the victory of the king, in return, Shinto began to become the state religion of Fuso - the dry food brought by the birds was hidden by the bow, but not this time, after all, you have to count on the Shinto to continue to carry the royal palanquin.

But how can there be ownerless interests in the world?

Shinto is prosperous, and the Buddhists who originally almost unified Fusang will naturally be suppressed.

Speaking of which, "the opponent's opponent is the helper", Zhixiu's capital is not much, so he can only borrow strength from everywhere, how can this ready-made Buddhist disciple have to use it.

Therefore, as soon as the monk Xiunian arrived in the north in 1851, he was clearly arranged - he was fooled by Zhixiu into boarding a thief ship bound for Mizhou.

"It's different, it's different."

When Xiu Nian reluctantly returned to the white lord in 1854, his eyes had been opened, and the scenery of this Chezhi Dan in the West was not comparable to that of Tianhai, the owner of Nanguang Fang-even if it was a little declining now, but Xiu Nian's heart was not as big as the sky.

At that time in the United States, Zhixiu's arrangement for Xiunian was, "There is enough money for eating, drinking, and having fun, but there is only one point, you must go to the seminary, and you can't skip class for a day." ”

Xiunian was originally a senior disciple of the Tiantai Sect - if it weren't for the master's physical accident, it would not be impossible for him to take over the Kaneiji Temple, and now that the two theologies of Fuso and the West are combined, this Xiunian is becoming more and more amazing.

But Naoxiu couldn't rest assured, afraid that something would really come out in the future, and then he was stunned and pressed it for three whole years, until 1857, when Xiu Nian's new teachings were perfect, which made him officially start a sect and establish a branch of the Tiantai sect in the north.

In the Edo period, the Buddhist sect was divided into three tiers: the main mountain, the main temple, and the last temple.

It stands to reason that Xiu Nian's small temple is the level of the last temple, but when he left the Kuanyong Temple, he was quite in a hurry to send the plague god, afraid that he would be bitter in the north, in addition to letting him take away some people, he also gave him the name of "this temple" - this is not bloody, what if people regret their death and do not leave? Or sneak back in two days, and you won't be able to stand it.

Kaneiji Temple is the main mountain of the Tiantai sect in the Kanto region, and throwing a "temple" out is a matter of reach, and it can be quite appeased by the old residence and employment department, which can be said to be beneficial but not costly.

It stands to reason that in 1851, Xiu Nian was only twenty-six years old, and it was difficult to wear the hat of the temple's residence, but the family had been raised in the temple since childhood, and it was passed down by the old resident, so he was stunned to mix up a "scholar" out, in this way, what seat can not sit - the head of the Tiantai sect is not the head of the students, but a kind of monk, indicating that there is an authority to expound the meaning of the scriptures.

This opening is wonderful, that is to say, no one dares to care how Xiu Nian wants to interpret the Buddhist scriptures, unless it is a higher boss of the Tiantai Sect, otherwise others can disagree but cannot question it face to face - to put it bluntly, the head of the school is famous in the Tiantai Sect, and outsiders questioning Xiu Nian is questioning the Tiantai Sect, which is easy to cause a fight between the sects.

Originally, the teachings of the Tiantai sect in Fuso were quite flexible, and it was one of the first sects to propose the "Divine and Buddhist Practice", and the Tiantai Shinto in Shinto was separated from it.

What is "Divine and Buddhist Habits"?

The gods and Buddhas are also known as "local traces", which means that these gods of Fusang are the incarnations of the Buddhas in Fusang. In this case, everyone is hello and I am good, because the gods and Buddhas who believe in them are actually the same one.

With such a flexible tradition, Xiu Nian's renewal of the doctrine is naturally much smoother - Naohide shouted, "Smooth fart", if it weren't for the remote worship office of the North Land to cover the sky, plus the sales of Kaneiji in Edo, the sales of North Land specialties, the top and bottom have benefited a lot from it, and you Xiu Nian would have been arrested and returned to the Edo expulsion sect a long time ago.

Relying on the support of Gou and Dafa and practice, by 1858, the White Lord Xianxia Temple created by Xiu Nian had basically unified the Ezo land and the North Ezo land, and when Naoxiu became the Hakokan government, its status was unshakable.

Then, as Hakodate's trade with other places grew, monks from the Ezo Tendai sect began to appear in various parts of Fuso:

In the summer and April of the second year of Ansei (1855), the shogunate "ordered Date Keibang, Satake Yoshimu, and Tsugaru Shunsei to send troops to kill Ezo and Hakodate".

On June 2, 1859 (July 1, 1859), Nagasaki, Kanagawa (Yokohama), and Hakodate were opened to foreign trade.

In September of the 6th year of Ansei (1859), Edo "ordered Date Keibang, Hoshina Rongho, Nanbu Toshitsu, Satake Yoshiharu, Tsugaru Seori, and Sakai Tadahiro to reclaim the Ezo land."

This can come and go, Xiunian's apprentices began to run around.

In fact, there are so many apprentices in Xiunian, and many of them are people from the Zhixiu family.

Moreover, because the monks have some privileges, the temple pursues relatively strict control over Du Mu, so the team sent by the white lord is often a monk with a few apprentices in various configurations, commonly known as a tow few.

It stands to reason that under the shogunate system, it was undesirable for the monk to wander around the country - at that time, the temple invitation system was in place, that is, everyone had to have their own belonging, and the household registration of commoners was actually managed by the temple. As a result, the mission territory was effectively fragmented. It's all fragmented, the monks are running around, can't teach you what you want to do?

Of course, it is also possible to travel and practice, but after all, it is not profitable, and it is regarded by the local temples as an evil deed that crosses the boundary, so there are not many monks who travel.

At that time, the most common foreign monks were the Void Monks of the Puhua Sect and the priests of the Taisha Shrine - the Void Monks were in the name of samurai cultivation, but in fact, there were many outlaws such as ronins and robbers. The priests are mostly from the major shrines, selling runes everywhere or persuading people to travel to the shrine to worship.

Both of these are not very popular with the local government, one is to cause trouble, the other is to incite the people to travel, so they will be expelled or arrested when they see it - but the management of the agricultural society is not strict, and the law and order force is not strong, so there are still many fish that slip through the net.

Compared with these monks and priests, the monks of the White Lord Xianxia Temple of the Tiantai Sect are much more popular.

The reason inside, first, the monks of Xianxia Temple never turn into fate, and they don't want to give it; The second is that he never preaches openly, never asks about doctrines, even if he talks, there is no denominational difference, and what he talks about is not the scriptures but only some words that persuade people to do good; Most importantly, these people are of great benefit to the local community, not only practicing medicine at a low price, but also promoting agriculture and spreading improved seeds.

Of course, you can't carry much of this seed with you, but people can tell you where to buy it.

After a long time, in addition to the lords, even the samurai, temples and merchants from all over the world welcomed it very much:

The reason why the samurai are welcome is very simple, people treat diseases for free or at a low price, especially the method of prenatal health and parenting in Xianxia Temple is very magical - of course, the monks are proficient in this and will inevitably cause people to reverie, but people say that this is the achievement of the Beidi Medical Center, and they are just promoting it for them. This is also reasonable, no matter what you say, giving birth to a son and raising a son are the most important.

At that time, the level of medical care was very poor, and the rate of infant mortality was high. And the economy is getting worse and worse, and the samurai families are also affected, and they can't afford to have more children, so if they have one, they have to live - on average, two or three children can one child become an adult, and this is the case with daimyos, samurai, and commoners.

What "pregnancy", "knee-chest corrective exercise", at this time it is really a miracle, plus a barefoot doctor's parenting manual, no matter how disrespectful the master, is the braincase broken?

In addition to the above benefits, village chiefs, temples, and merchants from all over the country can also obtain new agricultural knowledge, commodity channels and crafts, and naturally monks who are keen on Xianxia Temple to visit.

Of course, it is not easy for the Naoxiu family to cultivate these talents, so they pay extra attention to safety - not to mention traveling in groups, but also to visit powerful people first, and after obtaining asylum, they do not go to various places casually, but try to cultivate them locally. Anyway, it's clearly written in the books, and if you want to run a few more places, there are not enough people in this northland.

In any case, by 1860, the reputation of Senxia Temple, the white lord of the Tendai sect, was growing, and the range of activities was becoming more and more extensive, and it had spread from the Higashiyama Road where Dewa and Mutsu were located to Sanyo Road.

There is a big Buddha like Abe Isemori in the Fukuyama Domain, so it is natural that powerful people will come out - Hideny: Who else can it be besides me?

In the autumn of the fifth year of Ansei (1858), the old feudal lord Abe returned to this area, and Hideno, who was visiting Kaneiji Temple in Edo, heard the news.

But after two years of hooking up, even if this time Hikari Xiunian ran five times in person, but he only had a friendship with the side employee Eki Shitaro, while Abe Isemoru never saw him.

The result is heart-wrenching.

Seeing that Shigetaro nodded slightly to himself, Xiunian clasped his palms together and saluted, thinking, "Now that the shogunate is in chaos like this, I don't know what the plans of the Fukuyama Domain are going to be, what is the idea of the former chief old man Naka Abe?" I hope I can learn a thing or two from Emukou this time. ”
