Glory comes from dreams, and responsibility creates brilliance. At the end of February 1951, the work of reforming the insurrectionary troops was completed, which lasted nearly a year, and the glorious task entrusted to us by the higher authorities was successfully completed.

In order to meet the needs of the development of the world's military revolution and to raise the overall level of our army's modernization and specialization, in accordance with the instructions of the Central Military Commission, all major military regions should select and send a number of well-thought-out, young and promising military heroes who have a certain cultural foundation, and some combat heroes to military academies and academies for further training and study, so as to improve their military quality. Soon after, my superiors informed me to go to the Fifth Infantry Academy of the Nanzhao Provincial Military Region (later renamed the Third Infantry School) for training and study.

The former military residence (lecture hall) is now changed to the Fifth Infantry Academy. The first brigade was stationed in Jiangwutang, and the second, third, and fourth brigades were stationed in the northern suburbs, and each brigade had five companies. From the establishment, training content, equipment to army management, it is all the Soviet model. The leadership group of the academy is basically the former military university, and the number of institutions has increased, and the academy has been upgraded to a military establishment. I am in a big team, and the political commissar is still the old leader - Du Jing. Since then, I have been trained here as Soviet-style infantry.

It's intense to study every day. From getting up, going to exercise, going to class, training, playing, eating, resting, every move is Soviet, and it is extremely strict and rigid, and people have almost become robots. When you urinate at night, whether you have that "goods" or not, you have to get up and line up. It's okay in summer, but the spring city in winter is not "like spring", and we have to suffer a few sins together. I heard that the reason why this is done is to cultivate a high degree of collectivist spirit among soldiers, which is really fresh!

Training begins with freehand exercises. Standing upright, taking a break, turning left, turning right, changing formations, practicing almost all day long, annoying people. Turn unneatly, start over; The heel is not in a straight line, start over; The posture of the turn is not standard, and it is done again. This thing grinds people to the point of smoke, and the skeleton is about to fall apart at the end of the day.

Then practice various steps, i.e., running, walking in unison, and walking in a positive step. Although we all had some basic skills in the past, it was not easy to meet the standards. Especially when you can only walk 110-120 steps a minute, and the step distance is between 35-40 cm, it is really difficult. Every day, after the instructor finishes teaching the essentials, the whole class begins to practice, and "Mr." looks at the watch and timing, not enough pace, and starts again; Take more steps, start over; If the step distance does not meet the requirements, start again; Wave your hands unneatly, start over. Do it all over again, start over ......, you have to practice like this. After practicing for a month, I haven't reached the standard. The instructor was sulking, and the students were complaining. An old Balu complained: "We march and fight, all rely on the word "fast", big and fast steps are victory, that can be so mechanical!" ”

Some people asked: Is it to draw a good step line on the ground, so that people can step on the line to practice, and get used to it. The training department quickly adopted this suggestion, and drew a lot of "zebra crossings" with lime in the two large playgrounds, so they went to drill, and usually practiced, and the effect was very good, and the requirements were met within a week. One day at the end of April 1951, in order to evaluate the results of hand-to-hand exercises and other training items, a military parade was held in the northern suburbs.
