Chapter 103: Foothold
Before leaving, John called Lance, who was with him, after arranging everyone and checking back and forth. After seeing that no one was around, John whispered, "Did any of your people in El Carmen send back news?" ”
Lance looked at John and said, "What do you want to know?" ”
"I just want to know if it's business as usual there?" John looked at Lance and said seriously.
Lance was not stupid, and he immediately understood what John meant, John's worries to be exact. He nodded and said, "Everything is normal." I only got in touch in the morning. It was calm there, nothing happened. After saying that, he looked at the convoy and said, "Are you worried about Aruas playing tricks?" ”
John shook his head slightly and said, "That's just one of the reasons. Another reason is that I always feel that El Carmen is not as simple as it is from the photos or on the map. ”
"What do you mean?" Lance asked, puzzled, "If you find a problem, you should stop." ”
"Nope." John immediately denied, "I didn't see a problem. I just think ... A little more care should be taken. ”
Hearing John say this, Lance did not laugh at John's inexplicable concern, but nodded very seriously and said, "I will keep my people vigilant." Report back to me every once in a while. ”
"It's for the best." John nodded, looked at the sides, and said, "Get in the car." Before we enter Elkamen, I'll ask for a break, and you'll have to recheck then. ”
"Okay." Lance said yes and walked to the truck he was getting into.
The convoy set off quickly and, after a long day's drive, finally arrived on the outskirts of El Carmen at 8 p.m. Here John found an excuse to stop the convoy, and after a short rest, and after receiving a reply from Lance that everything was normal, he resumed his journey, and after about ten minutes several trucks drove into a large courtyard north of El Carmen.
"We're here." When the SUV John and Aruas were in came to a stop, Aruas opened the door and got out of the car as he spoke.
John was vigilant, and when he got out of the car, he beckoned all those who had been sitting in the cab to get out of the car, and some were alert and some quickly called everyone else in the car to get off.
"Don't worry." "This is where I store my goods. As he spoke, he pointed around and said, "There are walls all around, and as long as you don't open the door, no one can see inside." Then he turned and pointed to the circle of houses next to the courtyard and said, "These are my storehouses, you can hide in them, eat, sleep, or plan anything." ”
John looked back and forth and said, "This is the north of the city, right?" ”
"Yes." Aruas pointed to the southeast and said, "Your target is five kilometers away from the city. ”
"Is there anyone else here?" John asked.
"Nope." Aruas shook his head, "No one else will know that you are here, as long as you don't let anyone see you, no more people will know." ”
John didn't say anything, but looked at Megan, who had already gotten out of the car and was moving her legs, and said, "Isn't it time for us to hurry up and start arranging?" ”
Megan glanced at John and said, "Where do you think these houses are better?" ”
John looked at the two-story building to the north and said, "I'll choose this place." As he spoke, he looked at Aruas and said, "Can you go up to the top of the building above here?" ”
"Yes." Aruas nodded, glanced at his men, and then said, "Get something to eat." Fast. ”
John beckoned to Pete and Colin, and after beckoning them to his side, he led them into the small two-story building on the north side of the courtyard.
The door to this building is not locked, it is just hidden. After pushing the door open, Pete smells a musty smell. John waved his hand and looked back, "Is there a light in here?" ”
"Yes." Aruas trotted all the way over, and after entering the small building, he quickly found a switch by the door, and the lights on the first floor came on.
The lights weren't very bright, a little dim to be exact. However, the situation can be seen completely clearly. I saw that there were not many things in it, only some alleys wrapped in linen cloth were piled up by the wall, and there were some dry footprints on the ground, and it seemed that someone had come not long ago. Pete turned to John and said, "They seem to have emptied this place a while ago." ”
John followed Pete's footprints and turned to Aruas and said, "This is for us?" ”
"Of course." Aruyas said, "You have a lot of people, and you have a lot of things. If you don't make some space, I think you'll get in the way. ”
"Huh. I think you're afraid we're ruining your business, right? John smiled and glanced at the stairs leading to the second floor, and walked up with his feet up.
The second floor is pretty much the same as it is below, but some of the places are clearly used for resting, and some of the beds are still there and haven't been moved. There are also some plants planted in pots on the balconies and windowsills.
Pete walked out onto the balcony, which was not big, and could accommodate four or five people at the same time. But the balcony has a good view of the road outside the gate, and a little farther away. However, at the moment, most of the places outside are pitch black, and the street lights outside are not bright, even dimmer than the lights in this warehouse, and some of them are still flickering and obviously have problems. All in all, the place is really remote.
John went back to the balcony and looked around, and after looking back and forth, he said, "How do you get to the top of the building?" ”
"Do you want to see the Mexican directly from here?" Aruas said with a puzzled expression, "Although this is not a big city, it is impossible for you to see that far away. And you have to go up from the outside. ”
"Up outside?" Puzzled, John asked, "The ladder outside to climb up?" ”
"Yes." "When this house was built, I didn't think that people would often go up to the roof. The fat man said and pointed to a fire-like ladder outside the balcony that was attached to the wall.
John smiled and said, "But you got it, didn't you?" With that, he motioned to Pete, and let Pete climb out of the balcony and climb up the ladder to the top.
From the cigarette butts and a reclining chair that can be seen everywhere on it, it can be seen that there must be people on it often, and most of the people who come up are not for rest, but for sentry. In other words, the business that this fat man usually does here is not as clean as he himself said.
