Chapter 20 Pre-War Deployment
Matsuyama.
In 1942, the Japanese army retreated from Burma and entered Songshan, where the Songshan position was built. During the construction of the position, General Terauchi Toshiichi, commander of the Japanese Southern Army, Lieutenant General Shozo Kawabe, commander of the Burma Front, and Lieutenant General Mutaguchi Ryoya, commander of the 15th Army, were all accompanied by Major General Sakaguchi, commander of the 56th Division. Tests have shown that direct hits from several 500-pound heavy** pieces have failed to damage the interior of the fortifications. The Japanese commanders were extremely pleased with this. In his report to the Southern Army, Kawabe said: "The fortifications of Matsuyama were strong enough to withstand a fierce attack of any intensity, and could hold out for more than eight months."
......
"Jin Guangjun, your combat readiness in Songshan can be called a model for our Imperial Japanese Army in the Greater East Asia region; our war with the Chinese has been going on for seven years, and during these seven years, Yunnan has become the great rear of the Chinese, and they are using this Yunnan-Burma Highway to get a steady stream of supplies, and we can only firmly defend Songshan and control this Yunnan-Burma Highway, which is the most powerful blow to the Chinese army." Sakaguchi looked at the Imperial Army not far away and said to the officer Jin Guang Shaozo beside him.
"Your Excellency General, for two years, I and all the soldiers stationed in Songshan have been looking forward to this day. I, the samurai of the Imperial Japan, are bloodthirsty, and we are not afraid of anyone, especially strong opponents......" Kim Kimitsu replied confidently.
......
On the east bank of the Nu River, our expeditionary force made final preparations for crossing the river at night. Tujia people from all over Baoshan and nearby also rushed to tie the bamboos together and fix them on the oil drums......
Yu Hanmin, chief of the general staff of the 20th Group Army, walked back and forth, constantly taking out his pocket watch to check the time......
"Report, Wang Huzi reports!"
"Wang Huzi, Wang Xing, although there is a line in your name, I still have to think about whether you can do it or not?" Yu Hanmin said slowly.
"Senza, you can't say that about me, my Wang Huzi didn't kill the Japanese in Taierzhuang, and if it wasn't for the British old temporary retreat, my Wang Huzi would have wiped out the 56th Division of the Japanese Army in India, and there would be no today's situation......"
"King's beard!"
"Don't talk to me about those useless things, now, just talk about now."
"Counselor, my Wang Huzi has been fighting guerrillas on the west bank of the Nujiang River of the Second Division for two years, when have I ever been terrified of this group of bastards."
"Say, what kind of task did you give me?"
"How about taking down the mahogany tree and cooperating with my main force to attack Tengchong!" Yu Hanmin pulled Wang's beard and said.
"Attack Tengchong! I've been thinking about this for two years, but how do you ask me to fight this side? Wang Huzi said and rolled up his sleeves.
"Wang Huzi, this is not an ordinary side response, the mahogany tree is an important strategic point of our army's counteroffensive in western Yunnan, taking the mahogany tree can not only block the Japanese army's support for Tengchong, but also cut off the back road of the Tengchong Japanese army's retreat, and can also be mobile and flexible to attack the Japanese army......"
"This time, the commander-in-chief personally ordered your general, don't remember the commander-in-chief's disappointment!" Yu Hanmin said meaningfully.
"No problem, Sensit, but how many brothers can you give me?"
"The two companies of the 115th Regiment and the 116th Regiment, in addition, send the Tong staff officer of my command headquarters to you as the company commander of the Sharp Knife Company."
"Okay, I won't come back to see you if I can't complete the task!" Saying that, Wang Huzi and Counselor Tong saluted Yu Hanmin and then came.
......
Command of the Chinese Expeditionary Force.
Yu Hanmin, a member of the 20th Group, is announcing the combat order of the military headquarters:
This counteroffensive in western Yunnan has a bearing on the situation in the entire Pacific Pacific, and all units in western Yunnan must fight bravely, recover lost territory, and resist Japanese invaders from leaving the country. Cut this out!
"Ladies and gentlemen, this great counteroffensive in western Yunnan is the first large-scale strategic offensive of our army since the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
"Now I ask the Chief of Staff to announce the operational deployment." said the commander-in-chief.
I saw Yu Hanmin stand up and walk to the map hanging in the center of the headquarters and said.
"One: Take the 20th Army as the attack corps. The 53rd Army (under the jurisdiction of the 116th Division and the 130th Division) was the first line of attack force, and the 54th Army (under the jurisdiction of the 36th Division and the 198th Division) was the second attack force. ”
"Two: Take the 11th Army as the defensive corps. The 2nd Army (under the jurisdiction of the 9th Division, the 76th Division, and the 33rd Division), the 6th Army (under the jurisdiction of the new 39th Division, the 2nd Reserve Division), the 71st Army (under the jurisdiction of the 87th Division, the 88th Division, and the new 28th Division) and the 200th Division directly under the Group Army respectively held the first line of defensive positions on the east bank of the Nu River. ”
"Three: After the 8th Army (under the jurisdiction of the 1st Division, the 82nd Division, and the 103rd Division) left western Yunnan, it was directly under the jurisdiction of the Expeditionary Force, controlled in the area near Xiangyun, and was the general reserve.
This attack is deployed as:
Step 1: Crossing the river to attack the battle. The first-line attacking force (the 53rd Army) used one part to use the Lichaiba and the two ferries of the Tank Bridge to force the crossing in one fell swoop, and occupied the bridgehead position on the west bank of the Nu River to cover the crossing of the river by the main force.
Step 2: After the main force of the first-line attack force successfully crossed the river, it will try its best to occupy the key crossings of the Tonglongchuan River valley of Gaoligong Mountain in front of it, cover the crossing of the second-line attack force (54th Army), and continue to attack the line of Qiaotou and Linjiapu, so as to obtain the area on the west side of Gaoligong Mountain and then attack the area to be launched.
Step 3: After the 53rd Army reached the bridgehead and the line of Linjiapu, it occupied a favorable position, built fortifications on the one hand, and prepared for the subsequent attack on the other, waiting for the 54th Army to arrive, and then attacked the line of Gudong Street and Jiangtho Street.
Step 4: After capturing Gudong Street and Jiang Tho Street, build fortifications to hold on, and adjust the deployment according to the actual situation to continue the attack on Tengchong.
When our attacking troops advanced to the line near Gudong Street and Jiang Tho Street, and if the Japanese 56th Division concentrated its main force in Tengbei and attempted to counterattack our attacking troops, our 2nd Army should move the troops of one division to cross the river from the area north of Sanjiangkou and take advantage of the surprise attack on Longling to respond to Tengchong's strategy. At the same time, our 71st Army crossed the river from the vicinity of Huiren Bridge with the strength of one regiment, so as to encircle the enemy in Tengchong with our Tengbei troops and annihilate them in one fell swoop......
In addition, the U.S. Air Force must send a strong air force to directly assist the ground forces in attacking operations, and concentrate their forces on bombing the Japanese forces at Mangshi, Longling, Tengchong, Gudong Street, Wadian Street, and other places, as well as the lines of communication between them......"
