Section 232 Monk Taming
Previously, Zhao Gonglian's resignation triggered a mass exodus of people in Cangbei, especially the urban population who did not work in agriculture completely escaped.
He and his military advisor Zhu Wu and others anticipated this, and planned it in advance, so they played a game and the Cangbei Army was disappointed and followed the people to "spontaneously" defect. The remaining nearly 20,000 soldiers are brave and good warriors in the Cangbei army, all of them are good at fighting, and they are grateful and loyal to follow Zhao Gonglian, ensuring the most basic military strength and ruling team needed for the security of Cangbei, but it has also caused Cangbei to lack manpower except for war.
There is a lack of serious cooks.
These days, the food in the army is made by brave soldiers who can play with knives and guns but can't cook, and you can imagine that there are delicious foods and good ingredients that are also made into pig food.
There is a shortage of doctors in Cangbei.
No, it's not that it's lacking, it's that there is not even a barefoot doctor with two knives.
The folk doctors had all withdrawn before, either overseas or in Zhaozhuang. The special branch of the Cangbei Army, the military doctor, has also been withdrawn. Not to mention that they are still staying in Cangbei to farm, waiting for the autumn harvest, it is very likely that all their belongings will be evacuated, and there are not many people in the countryside who are sick and have no doctor to see them, even if the officers and men in the army are injured or sick, there is no military doctor to see them.
Fortunately, this period of time is not long, there is no war expected during the period, and no one happens to have a major acute illness, there is the basic medical knowledge widely promoted by Cangzhao over the years, and the people and soldiers have a minor illness and injury, and they can deal with it themselves.
There is a lack of seams in the city and border gates, mending and washing, washing and washing women's work.
There is a shortage of craftsmen to manufacture and repair ordnance, etc., and there is a shortage of farmers who can harvest crops in the autumn......
Now the monk is coming, okay. These are the most cost-effective manpower that can be used according to the minimum human desire standard, which just fills the manpower gap in Cangbei. The imperial court is really thoughtful, and "takes good care" of Zhao Gonglian, and what Cangbei lacks, the imperial court will make up for it. Whatever Zhao Gonglian wants, the court will give.
Tong Gang specially selected talents and nuns were all brought back to the city.
I don't deliberately carry out ideological training and education with these people who are good at arguing and have their own set of gods and Buddhas, and they don't waste that saliva and time, but they just sternly emphasize that this is a border pass, and they are all members of the border army or special personnel of the border army, and they are strictly governed by military law during the war, and then preach and explain in detail the unique military law regulations of Cangbei so that these people can understand what they should do and what they can't do, and then, the old and frail medical monks and all the nuns stayed in Qingzhou City to serve the military and civilians, and the rest were sent to serve in the army everywhere.
The remaining thousands of monks who can only recite scriptures and have no practical expertise, regardless of the high and low monks, are all placed in abandoned deserted villages, and the army from Hejian Prefecture is in charge of the military cantonment.
All the monks and prisoners can rest for a few days if they are fine, eat and drink enough, sleep well, and recover from the extreme weakness and fatigue caused by the escort army and the abuse of the government along the way, which also makes these demonic felons who have lost their qualifications to be human beings in the eyes of the imperial court and belong to life and death surprise and taste the kindness of the Cangbei army to them.
After resting, all the monks have to participate in the daily morning exercise like a serious soldier, and receive queue training and physical training....... Emphasis on discipline and dedication.
Needless to say, the forced education with actions made the monks have to accept the new identity of no longer being a leisurely Buddhist disciple, and the consciousness of the military is invisibly formed.
It's so hard to change the minds of these monks.
Hardly possible.
The good foundation is that Buddhism is very disciplined and dedicated, and monks are very obedient and disciplined.
It is relatively easy for monks and criminals to get used to the rules of the army to suppress their sense of confrontation due to resentment or negativity in the form of brutal survival at the border and military law. The training paid off quickly. The vast majority of the monks who were knowledgeable quickly adapted to the new life, bowed their heads in the face of the reality of existence, and turned to it.
This is also greatly related to the Cangbei Army's unique respect for knowledge and great attention to the intangible mechanism and group consciousness of various practical talents in the Great Song Dynasty in this era.
There is no discrimination against monks here.
No one cares what happened to you in the past, and no one laughs at you for being a proud monk who lived a fairy life, and now you are finally unlucky.
As long as you are a talent, have special skills, work hard, and make achievements, you will be recognized and even respected by the soldiers, and you will also get high treatment and even promotion and reuse.
Although you are a criminal monk, you are a skilled cook, and you can make the pig food and army rice delicious, then you can still be as proud and bragging as before.
You are a warrior monk, you have a skill, you are willing to teach others to improve together, you are diligent and serious in patrolling the border and guarding the passes, you are brave enough to kill the enemy, and you do not retreat in danger and do not abandon your comrades, then you are a righteous man in the army, and you are a brother who is willing to live and die together. You can also fully display your strength, kill the enemy and eliminate harm, make meritorious contributions, embody the true feelings of compassion and salvation, make a name for yourself, get ahead, and be glorious, and live up to the skills you have cultivated hard and the meaning of living for the Han people in your life.
......
Of course, no one sympathizes with you and takes care of you because you are a Buddhist disciple who claims to be compassionate and has no real evil deeds but has suffered hardships.
The standards of right and wrong, good and evil, and friend and foe in the military are much simpler than those in society. The hearts of soldiers are also much harder and more ruthless than ordinary social groups.
How well you do in the military depends on your actual performance.
It doesn't matter what you say, what you've been through. The soldiers don't care about that.
This kind of situation makes these proud Buddhist disciples who have special skills and abilities are different from social people feel comfortable, and even feel much happier and more comfortable than in the temple in the past, this is life, and unconsciously get used to liking here and liking here, liking simple military life. At least from the bottom of my heart, I am no longer so repulsive and resistant.
Classifying and treating monks differently, allowing monks with different abilities to engage in what they are good at or what they can do, and having different life circumstances and hopes for a way out, is undoubtedly tantamount to cleverly and easily dismantling the unity and resentment of Buddhism in Cangbei into multiple groups with different interests, and weakening the antagonism of the monks as a whole.
In particular, the monks who can fight have been invisibly stripped of Buddhism, no longer influenced and influenced by Buddhist monks, and are directly supervised, commanded, and educated in the army, and even transformed into military strength to serve the army, which is equivalent to eliminating the fundamental force of Buddhism against the control of the Cangbei government.
The rest of the monks in Tuntian are all talkative, just like Xiucai rebelled, no matter how many people there are, they have no combat effectiveness, and they dare to make trouble or even rebel is just to die more and send them to death, they can't set off big storms and waves, and they can't make a big disaster, and the hidden dangers are much smaller, and they are better to control and manage more.
It is difficult for these monks to change their ideological pursuits. The brothers Zhao Gonglian and Zhao Yue never thought of making great efforts to really change the Buddhist spirit of these monks.
Love changes. It's all about self-realization and creation.
I have changed, and I will have the opportunity to be a normal person in the future and live a secular but colorful life of a normal person in the new society.
Unchanging, devout Buddhism?
Better. Welcome.
There are a lot of special jobs in the Empire that need to be done by people who have such simple needs in life.
I am worried that I lack this kind of desire for simple people to do dedication and sacrifice.
For example, charity, medical care, etc., only talk about charity that pays without asking for returns.
For example, working in the deep mountains and wilderness for many years, life is extremely monotonous and hard, isolated from the world, and even extremely dangerous......
Ordinary workers, disgusted with work too hard, want high remuneration, dislike too bitter in the wilderness, want women, want this and that, how can there be Buddhist monks and workers to give food and clothing so satisfied?
Letting the monks do those special jobs is also to help them realize the core value of Buddhism's compassion and salvation, get rid of the root of the Buddha's compassion and get rid of the bad root of the Buddha's compassion without hard work, and realize their self-worth with hard and practical practice, so as to become a great Buddha who is truly righteous to the progress of human society and truly touches the world, which makes people admire, admire, admire, and remember.
In a word, society needs such people, and the reality is that there are almost no such noble people.
Zhao Gonglian and Zhao Yue brothers naturally took advantage of this era and opportunity to have such a group of people.
These monks must have a large number of such monks who only talk about sacrifice and do not ask for it.
Won't?
Just forcibly control them to be the kind of people they have to be.
Otherwise, let's seek liberation from self-fulfillment.
It's just that I'm afraid that few monks are willing to commit suicide, otherwise they would have sacrificed their lives to defend the Buddha or saw the Buddha on the way to complain about their grievances to see if the Buddha would support him.
The monks who went to the army had a very good living experience, at least they could eat well, live well, and sleep peacefully.
This is also an important reason why these monks quickly accepted and became accustomed to life in the army and became active.
And the monks who are confined to the deserted village of Tuntian are a different situation.
Although there are a large number of deserted villages to live in, they are not well fed, they have nothing but salt, and they have to train and work after a little rest.
This is the farming season.
Corn, beans, sweet potatoes, potatoes in the field........ It is the period when you grow up and run to maturity, you don't need to hoe and fertilize, God takes care of it, there is no shortage of rain, and you don't have to work hard to carry water to water the ground. As a result, the monks do not have to work hard to work in the fields to work on the crops, and now they have no heavy work to do, and they can be at ease.
Tong Gang ordered the monks to take care of the abandoned vegetable patches after training, watering and fertilizing them, and trying to get more vegetables. Skillfully pulled out and repaired the houses in the deserted village.
The monks did not resist these orders, and although they were accustomed to chanting sutras and pretending to be idle and comfortable, they were extremely reluctant and unaccustomed to working hard, but they all obediently complied. Because if you don't grow vegetables, you won't have vegetables to eat. When the army was short of vegetables, the monks would certainly not even have a root of vegetables. Obviously, Marquis Wen Cheng is by no means a benevolent boss who is willing to favor and take care of monks. If they refuse to be obedient and refuse to work, Marquis Wen Cheng will not talk about vegetables, even if they don't have food, they won't have any food. No one can live a life when there is no food to eat.
starved countless lazy monks to death, and Marquis Wen Cheng would never give in.
For useless monks, no one cares about their life or death. You deserve to starve to death.
These can be observed and analyzed by the senior monks from Tong Gang, the envoy of Zuotunwei, and there is no need to see and hear the attitude of Wen Chenghou himself.
Therefore, the vegetables must be planted with all their might.
It is also necessary to take the time to renovate the premises.
Now is the season of autumn rains, and it is necessary to clean up the abandoned houses and shelter them from the wind and rain and have a stable place to live. In winter, you need to provide shelter in a warm house, otherwise you will freeze to death.
You must know that the comfortable and warm bedding and winter clothes and good clothes they once had were all snatched away by the local government and the army, and were taken for their own use or sold for money, according to the will of the imperial court, they must be allowed to have at least survival supplies in Cangbei, and they can't bother with these chores so as not to affect the border defense, let alone bother the imperial court masters to worry about this, and the local government will replace them with tattered goods to make up for it, so that no matter whether they will freeze to death in the cold north, the warmth of the bedding and winter clothes can be imagined. Some of them are covered and dressed, so that they don't sleep on a bare bed and have a thin body, but if they want to survive the long cold in the north, the kang and the house have to be repaired with all their might.
Repair their own living is not good, but also have to work hard to repair other places for later peers to live, this can not be shirked, otherwise ignoring the survival of the same door is a big mockery of Buddhism's compassion, is a big joke, spread out, not only will chill the hearts of peers, make Buddhism split and even despise each other, the society will also say that the monks who are still compassionate for the sake of it, actually together with the door do not care about life and death and refuse to work hard to help, so false, selfish, hypocritical, such a deceptive religion does not want to be, perdition is deserved, and Buddhism is finally unlucky. This is retribution, just as monks like to say in their daily lives, it is the cause and effect of sin, but it is fulfilled in the Buddha itself. The demise of the sect is obviously because God can't stand the Buddhism anymore and has manifested. God still has eyes. God is really fair, etc.
In that case, Buddhism will really have no hope, it will be completely finished, and it will be impossible to change the dynasty or even the emperor to have a chance to revive and prosper again. These monks will have no chance of coming out completely, and they will be notorious, not to mention that the Buddha will not understand and forgive them, even the ignorant people will not allow the children of Buddhism to be in the world.
Also, firewood and grass must be prepared in advance.
Cangbei is different from other places in the Great Song Dynasty, and it is not allowed to cut down ownerless trees in the wilderness as firewood at will, and no one is allowed to cut down ownerless trees without the approval of the local government, county and town government, saying that it is to strictly protect the green ecosystem, prevent wind and sand and avoid desertification of the land in the Gobi.
You are only allowed to dig up tree roots, pick up dead branches, and harvest thorns and weeds.
Protect the greenery.
These monks, including the monks who claim to have great wisdom, all complained, "Not to mention other places, just say that this northern border area, although the place is not wide, but the people are more sparse, you can see wilderness and grasslands and large and small woods everywhere, how much land is occupied by people, and what proportion is the proportion of land occupied by people?" Encouraging the felling of trees and clearing the land lacks manpower and enthusiasm, what do you deliberately protect strictly?
How did these monks living in the Central Plains know that nature is so powerful in taking revenge on human beings, and how do they know that nature's ability to repair itself is far less powerful than human beings imagined. The northern grasslands and the arid Gobi Desert in the western region have a deep understanding of the disasters of the harsh living environment, and know the rapid and terrible chain reactions caused by the random destruction of vegetation.
Cangbei people are few, the place occupied is not big, and there are many woods, but the big trees in the woods, unless they are in the deep mountains and wilderness where manpower transportation is too difficult, are almost gone, and those trees that are suitable for building houses and furniture are also rare, and the remaining crooked melons and cracked jujube trees that will become chopping wood sooner or later and are immature are often used to being cut down casually and are also convenient to cut down when they are firewood sticks or something and have no chance to grow into small trees, which destroys the ecological self-repair system and causes a piece of forest to shrink and become extinct. Turning into a desolate and fragile meadow, the ability of windbreak soil to absorb too much water has been greatly diminished, proving the destructiveness of human deforestation and the devastating ripple effects that can be formed.
If we don't try to protect the forest now, it will be difficult to find saplings to replant when the forest becomes extinct piece by piece...... It's too late to remedy it.
The monks despised Zhao Gonglian's eccentric thoughts. But doing these jobs, these monks and uncles gradually became accustomed to obeying orders and working, and when the hard work of the autumn harvest came, they were relatively able to bear it, and it was easier to complete the autumn harvest under the control of the government and the army. It is also convenient for the monks to consciously manage the fields in the future. Otherwise, it will be a confrontation between the Cangbei army and dozens of monks, and there is no need to do anything, just worrying about how to deal with the monks is already annoying.
