Chapter 2: Pete's Highlight Moment (Part I)
"Haha. That's a good point. Donovan sighed, "So sometimes I miss the old days." ”
Pid nodded his head, he knew what he was referring to when Donovan said about the old days. About two years ago, Pete met Donovan somewhere in the Middle East in a war-torn place. Both were Marines at the time, and although they were not on the same team, a routine patrol and reconnaissance mission led Pete Wang to meet Donovan.
Pete's squad was sent out on patrol to the borders of their own controlled areas, as is customary. Unbeknownst to them, a platoon led by Donovan of the Marine Corps Force Recon was carrying out an arrest mission in the enemy-controlled area while they were conducting reconnaissance.
The capture went well, it was only during the retreat that they ran into trouble. Their transport broke down and someone was injured. And the closest to them at the time was Pete's class. So naturally, Pete and his comrades were sent there.
After all, Force recon is not an ordinary team, but it is less famous than its sibling Navy SEALs, but it has participated in a lot more wars and operations. Therefore, Pete's actions are at most support and response, that is, to insure the actions of Donovan and others. In fact, Donovan didn't notice Pete because of the reinforcements of Pete's squad. What really made him feel that Pete was different from other ordinary Marines was that Pete's squad was ambushed on the way to reinforcements.
I was going to support and receive others, but I ended up being trapped. Several of the squad were injured, and Pete and his team were forced to retreat into a private house. And when Donovan's platoon was picked up, Pete and the others still didn't get out of danger.
In desperation, Donovan took the initiative to rush to rescue Pete and them after successfully disengaged. On the way there, Donovan had already thought of a lot of tragic scenes, after all, a group of ordinary Marines, some of whom were ordinary people six months ago, what would have become of them in the event of an ambush? To put it bluntly, he and his comrades-in-arms around him were ready to collect the bodies of Pete and them.
But when they arrived, they saw a surprisingly good scene. The first thing Donovan saw was the militants besieging the house, who were hiding around the house and firing gunfire. Then there are the dilapidated walls and building facades that are riddled with bullet holes and damaged by explosives. Between the militants and the house lay the bodies of several armed men. The nearest one is very close to the outer wall of the house, about ten meters away. From this it can be seen that the armed men attacked several times, but they were all repulsed.
Donovan and his companions breathed a long sigh of relief at what was happening, no matter what, at least they didn't have to rush to collect the bodies of their own people, knowing that it was better to be able to bring their own people back here alive than anything else.
The rescue went well, and Donovan didn't have much effort to tear a hole in the encirclement of the militants, and successfully entered the house.
Here, Donovan saw the man who was still holding out in the house. There were twelve people in the class at that time, and there were supposed to be thirteen, but one of them didn't come out with him because he was sick. Of the twelve, four of them were injured, two of them were quite seriously injured, one or two of them were taking care of the four wounded and dealing with their injuries, and one person was in charge of the ordinary people in this house, just keeping an eye on them. In other words, there are only six or seven people who are really busy resisting the opponent's attack all the time. The class only used half of the staff to hold on.
The most surprising thing for Donovan was not this, when they went into the people's house to look for the squad leader, they learned that it was not the squad leader who was in charge, because the squad leader was one of the four wounded, and he was still delirious because of his injuries. In charge of the command was just an ordinary Asian-looking corporal.
This corporal is Pete Wang. In fact, although their situation is better than Donovan imagined at the moment, it is still a mess. The exterior walls of the building were crumbling, some places had been pierced, and many of the rooms inside the house were riddled with bullet holes. In addition, the seriously injured people urgently need treatment, and the lightly injured cannot move to fight, and the weapons and equipment may be because they were ambushed, plus they need to carry the wounded to be transferred, so a lot of weapons and ammunition here are actually not enough. The opponent only needs to spend a little more time and consume a while, even if he organizes the cover with the advantage of numbers and launches a few more attacks, he can quickly take this place.
But despite this, when Pete reported the situation to Donovan, Donovan did not see timidity and panic in the corporal's face. On the contrary, Donovan felt that this guy with an Asian face was very excited and full of desire to fight. Although the room was already in shambles, if you looked closely, you could see that the soldiers of this Marine squad were working in an orderly manner. Some of them seemed to be frightened, but they did what they had to do. It was Pete's state and the scene inside the house that gave Donovan an impression of Pete, and it was an excellent impression. However, he didn't have much communication with this corporal after that, after all, this is still a war zone, and the first thing to do is to leave here.
Fortunately, two months later, Pete had the opportunity to participate in the same mission with Donovan again. It was a clearance operation, perhaps because there were too many recruits, or maybe there were a lot of problems that had arisen recently, and the whole operation was assisted by Vanno and a few of his fellow Force recon comrades to assist the two infantry platoons. Speaking of which, the operation was commanded by the regiment, but in fact it was Donovan who was in charge. Pete's row is one of two rows.
In the previous two months, their squad was replenished, and a new sergeant major came to lead the squad, and the people in the squad thought that with Pete's performance all the time, especially the outstanding performance in the difficult situation last time, they would act or even officially become the new squad leader, but none of this happened. The army directly sent a sergeant major, although this person has never been seen before, and has not even heard of it, but there is no way, an order is an order. Even if a complete stranger is sent to command directly, even if no one can trust anyone, even if this seems very bad in combat time.
In this mission, Pete's platoon was asked to make a feint attack on an area entrenched by militants, with the aim of driving the lurking militants out of the area and rushing to the preset battlefield. Donovan's task is to stay with the man in charge of the ambush and take control of the situation.
