Neither rich nor poor, whether in a hurry or in a time of displacement, cannot violate this principle.

The gentleman is dressed properly, respects his gaze, and seems to be feared by people, and he is not powerful but not fierce? ”

Zizhang said: "What are the four evils? Zi said: "Killing without teaching is abuse; not to abstain from the violence of the so-called; Slow order leads to the thief of the expectation; It is also with people, and the stinginess of the cashier is said to be a division. "Students don't understand."

Zizhang's name is Zhuansun Shi, which is, one of the twelve philosophers of Confucius, Zhuansun Shi is brave and martial, Qingliu is not kitsch and was rated by Confucius as "extreme temperament", but he made friends. He advocates that "when a soldier sees danger and death, he sees the righteousness, sacrifices and respects, and mourns", and attaches importance to his own moral cultivation.

Zizhang was a native of the state of Chen and one of the youngest disciples of Confucius, forty-eight years younger than Confucius. Zizhang asked Confucius, "How can we govern political affairs?" Confucius said, "Respect the five virtues and abandon the four evils, so that you can govern political affairs." Zizhang said, "What are the five virtues?" ”

Confucius said: "A gentleman makes the people get benefits without breaking the bank, makes the people work without complaining, has legitimate desires but does not greed, is calm but not proud, and is solemn and majestic but not fierce." ”

Zizhang asked again: "How can the people get benefits without breaking the bank?" ”

Confucius replied: "Isn't it the same as letting the people get the benefits they want to get, so that the people can get the benefits without breaking the bank?" Who would complain if the people were to work at a time when they could work? If you want benevolence and you get it, what else do you want? No matter how many people there are, no matter how big or small the power is, a gentleman will not slack off, isn't this calm but not proud?

The gentleman is neatly dressed, his eyes are not squinting, his attitude is solemn, and his solemn majesty makes people feel awe, isn't this solemn and majestic but not fierce? ”

Zizhang continued to ask, "What are the four kinds of evil government?" ”

Confucius said: "Killing without indoctrination is called torture, forcing others to make achievements without admonition is called violence, and slacking off at first and suddenly completing within a time limit is called a thief. "This is the so-called five beauties and four politics!

No one does not want to embark on the road of prosperity, as long as he allows the common people to benefit where he can benefit, the common people will be able to benefit.

For example, a small mountain village is rich in melons and fruits, but the traffic is blocked, and fresh melons and fruits cannot be transported. In this case, if they can't use the imperial court yamen to settle a decision for them, the villagers will also build a road with their own funds, and all the rulers in the court have to do is to go with the flow, not to stop it, but also to give appropriate help.

Second, work without complaining. There is self-interest in human nature, and it is inevitable that there will be complaints when someone instructs someone to do it. However, if the rulers instruct the people to do things, which can bring vital benefits to the people, why not do it!

For example, waterways are built every year, because this is related to people's livelihood, and it can also reduce flooding, and it can also earn some wages to support the family, even if there is no money, the people will not complain.

Third, lust but not greed. Confucius recognized the rationality of the existence of desire, but demanded that desire should be in moderation, and to the point of insatiable greed. The only way to be greedy and not greedy is to strengthen personal cultivation.

What Confucius said about "wanting benevolence and getting benevolence" is to advocate gentlemen to restrain those chaotic desires with a benevolent heart. Fourth, Tai is not arrogant. That is, we must treat everyone with respect, and we cannot divide people into three, six, nine and so on. It is neither inflammatory, nor domineering.

Fifth, it is powerful but not fierce. Those in power must be authoritative, otherwise they will have no influence when managing their subordinates and giving orders. If you want to be truly powerful, you must first earn the respect of others. He behaves properly, "dresses properly, respects his eyes", and his prestige will naturally be there.

Of course, if you want to govern the locality, it is not enough to have only the five beauties, but also to abandon the four kinds of bad government.

First, kill without teaching. The legal system of any imperial court is based on people's notions of right and wrong. The formation of the concept of right and wrong depends on education, and that is what you are receiving now is education.

If people have not been told what is right and what is wrong, they will not know whether their actions are legal and should not be punished. Killing without teaching violates this principle, the people do not know how to behave wrongly, and they are killed inexplicably, this kind of evil government is called abuse, so every time you go to plunder places, but the court only kills the first evil, because the vast majority of you are indeed deceived.

Second, don't take it as such. The success of things depends on careful planning and proper arrangement in advance, and if you don't say anything in advance, but ask for results afterwards, this kind of behavior is very unreasonable, and Confucius called it violence.

Third, slow order to period. This evil is obviously a bit of a trick, and if the imperial court yamen or the king of your own country did not emphasize the importance and urgency of this matter when assigning the task, one day he suddenly announced that the work was required to be completed within a time limit, and the deadline had expired. Confucius called this behavior a thief.

Fourth, with people, the cashier's miserliness. The meaning of this sentence is that since you promised to give someone something, you are reluctant to give it when it comes time. Many officials, leaders, and even those in power have this problem, and their subordinates naturally want to be rewarded for their meritorious service, and they are reluctant to give a basket of things when they are done, which is a manifestation of short-sightedness, greed, and stinginess. This kind of person will eventually draw the ground and limit himself, and he will not be able to fly high or go far.

This is the four evil governments, and if these four evil governments appear at the same time, then I am afraid that the collapse of this force will not be long away, since you now know these things, understand these truths, then you must think about it, why is this! ”

Han Long looked at the academy that had slowly quieted down, and then chuckled and said to them, "Are there any questions you have yet?" ”
