Chapter Seventy-Seven: Jan Antonescu
When Eder inquired about financial constraints, he dropped his plans to build a diesel engine plant. Everything has to wait for the success of speculation before you can complete your ideas.
Eder could only carry the regret in his heart and continue to be busy with other things in the country. One of the guards walked in and said to the hard-working crown prince. "Your Highness, this is the report on the completion of General Pulieshan's invitation to His Highness to participate in the training of the Twelfth Division."
After hearing the guard's words, Edel took the report and looked. Because the completion of the reorganization of the army is a major event, the royal inspection has become a reserved program. In order to cultivate Eder's influence in the army, Carol I presided over every time, except for the first reorganization.
"The ceremony in Galatz on October 14 has ten days to go, so it's time to go out and see." The crown prince thought in his heart.
"Tell General Prieshan that I'll preside over it." Edel told the guards.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Ten days later, Eder arrived at the Bucharest railway station and met the Prije Mountain, who had been waiting for him. After some greetings, the group boarded the train to Galatz, and sat with the crown prince as usual.
"How is the recent reorganization of the army?" Edel asked about Prissan.
"This year is not bad, the 12th Division has been reorganized, and there is still a bit of a gap between the artillery and machine guns of the 15th Division, but the problem is not big, the arsenal has already coordinated, and these equipment will be sent over next month. But next year will be a little more difficult. "Prieshan truthfully told the crown prince about the situation, and by the way, talked about the difficulties of rice next year.
"What's going on next year?"
Faced with the crown prince's questions, the chief of the General Staff voiced the problem. "Next year there will be three divisions, the 10th, the 174th (no 13th), reorganized. There is a certain shortage of qualified officers, mainly technical officers, especially military doctors and veterinarians. ”
Edel heard Prieshan's complaints, and he couldn't do anything about it. A qualified military doctor in the army must be an excellent surgeon, who knows how to perform surgery and amputation, and knows how to catch a cold and fever. It is also necessary to be physically strong and not too old. This is a very high requirement in Romania, a country with poor medical conditions. Doctors with this skill are very sought-after in various major hospitals, and in the face of the high salaries of hospitals, the military does not give enough money.
It's the same with veterinarians, who are faced with much less pay than outside. Despite the daily promotion of patriotism, salary, which is related to their vital interests, there are still many people who choose the realistic side. Some people may ask why they are not raised, because if they are raised alone, it will destroy the salary structure of the army, and it will be more dissatisfying than worth the loss.
"This problem can only be found within the army, such as transferring people with academic qualifications and talents to study, and let him work for the army for 15 years as compensation for training costs." Edel thought of his previous life and suggested.
After hearing the crown prince's suggestion, Preshan could only smile bitterly in his heart. The crown prince's method is too time-consuming, and it takes at least three years to train a qualified military doctor, and it usually takes five years, and the cost is not cheap at all.
"Your Highness, I will seriously consider your suggestion."
After General Preshan finished Tai Chi, he felt that he wanted to divert the topic. "Your Highness, we have a new improvement to the training syllabus for soldiers, do you need to take a look?"
Preshan's words intrigued Eder a little. "You can take a look."
Hearing that the crown prince was interested, Prishan called out to a young officer. "Antonescu brought the training plan."
Eder's expression was slightly stunned when he heard Prishan's words. However, it immediately changed back and was not seen by the Chief of the General Staff.
Eder looked closely at the young captain named Antonescu, who had a high acquaintance with the dictator of World War II, but looked much younger. In Eder's mind, it seemed to be him.
Captain Antonescu walked up to the Chief of the General Staff with the papers, handed them to him and turned to leave.
"This is an officer who was recently transferred to the General Staff, and he was a platoon commander in the cavalry division before, so he is a good guy." Prieshan saw that the crown prince had a few more glances at Antonescu, and talked about him as if he was more interested.
"A soldier who can be praised by the chief of the General Staff must be excellent."
Hearing that the crown prince was really interested in this Antonescu, the chief of the General Staff intended to give this officer, whom he was favoring, a chance. "Antonescu, come over here."
Under the envious eyes of many young officers, Antonescu came to Prishan and Eder again. Looking at the young officer who had walked up to him, Prieshan spoke to him. "Tell the crown prince about himself."
Antonescu said after a military salute. "Yes, Your Excellency Chief of the General Staff."
"Your Highness, I was born in 1882, I am 27 years old this year, I am from Pitesti, and I have been honored to be a soldier of my father's generation since I was a child......"
Under Antonescu's introduction, Eder learned that he was born in Pitesti in 1882 to a family of cavalry officers, followed the family's tradition to become a soldier, and in 1898 entered a school for the children of officers. In 1902, he was admitted to the Infantry and Cavalry Officers' School. In 1904, he graduated first in his class. Before coming to the General Staff, he served as a platoon commander in the 1st Regiment of the Cavalry Division, and later because of his excellent performance, he was valued and transferred by Preshan.
After listening to Antonescu's explanation, Eder could be sure that he was the one who tried to save Romania's fate in World War II. Although he did a lot of wrong things later, there was no problem using him as an officer. Now it is not appropriate to do anything to him to pull out the seedlings and help him grow, just let him follow the side of Prishan to learn more. Eder told him about the decision.
"Captain Antonescu, you have a very nice family. Your own efforts have also borne fruit, and I hope you will contribute a lot to Romania in the future. ”
In the face of the crown prince's compliment, the captain Antonescu replied with a look of disgrace. "Thank Your Highness for your expectation, I will make it my own goal."
When General Prieshan saw that the crown prince had finished asking, he spoke to him. "Captain Antonescu, go about your business."
When Antonescu heard this, he gave a military salute to the crown prince and the chief of the general staff and left.
Seeing Antonescu departing, Eder spoke to General Prissan. "Give him a training place in Germany this year."
"Your Highness intends to train him."
In response to Prishan's inquiry, Eder said. "Let's give him a chance, it depends on how much he can learn."
On the other side of the carriage, Antonescu, who had returned, was surrounded by several staff officers.
"Hi Antonescu, it's good luck that you've been summoned by the Crown Prince and the Chief of the General Staff. In the future, we will be exalted, but we must not be forgotten. A staff officer laughed and complimented. The staff officer's words made several officers nod in agreement.
"Okay Mikyiku, don't laugh at me, I'm almost sweating in the face of the crown prince and the chief of the general staff." Antonescu said to the staff officer.
"Why didn't I be the one who was summoned, I also want to sweat." The staff officer named Mikyiku asked a little unrelentingly.
"That's because you're not handsome enough." Antonescu made a witty remark that defused the problem. Several of the other officers who heard the explanation said to the staff officer with a smile. "Mikyiku sees, that's the gap."
"That's right."
The fighting of the officers did not affect Antonescu. As a man who has dreamed of being an officer since childhood, now is just his starting point.
The train arrived in Galatz in the afternoon, and the work of completing the reorganization of the 12th Division for the review had just begun.
