977 Pragmatism
Since Zhao Yu understood that the newspaper hype of Li Guang was just a group of unscrupulous people to vent their dissatisfaction, he did not interfere, but let him do it. However, he also followed the hot pot of the scholars, and led the wind to the heroes of the world, and blew up the 'never give up any robe brothers' and good men who had just decreased their popularity, and of course there were more revelations and decryptions.
People's subconscious always has the psychology of 'liking the new and hating the old', Li Guang is a person who has been dead for a thousand years after all, I don't know how many times he has been hyped over and over again, but it is still some clichés, especially the kind of 'negative energy' articles full of sadness are easy to get bored. But the real hero is around, maybe he was a villager in the same village, a neighbor next door, he can see and touch, there is flesh and blood, and there is still a lot to do.
In the past, it may have been a splash in the countryside, but after joining the army, it became a hero, so you can have a prodigal son and turn back without changing it, and the army is a melting pot, which can not only educate bad people into good people, but also train them into heroes; As for the fact that he was a good person in the past, but now that he has become a hero, the article is better done, at least it can show that the army has not taught people badly, and tell everyone that they can rest assured that they can be handed over to the army and do not have to worry about learning badly.
Anyway, it didn't take a few days to suppress the 'crooked tendencies' that insinuated the emperor, and established a good atmosphere of 'learning from heroes and being heroes' in urban and rural areas, setting off an upsurge of serving the country in the army and infinitely glorious. And Zhao Yu also successfully used the tools of public opinion in his own hands to once again thwart the conspiracy of some people, and nip a possible vicious incident of 'writing on the bus' in the bud. After a few days of excitement, people's eyes turned to the biggest event in the empire, the palace test.
The palace examination officially began ten days after the release of the list, but this year's palace examination is still a little different from previous years, first of all, it is not only the Jinshi Branch that participated in the palace examination, but joined the two teams of Ming Law and Ming Jing, competing on the same stage and participating in the competition for the crown. In addition, a sub-venue was also opened for arithmetic, but they were ranked separately and announced separately.
In addition, in addition to personally supervising the field, the emperor felt that the test questions given by the examiners were unsatisfactory, and he also drafted the exam questions himself to prevent the leakage of the exam questions. The question of the liberal arts examination is one theory and one policy, and the topic is 'knowledge is the beginning of action, and action is the completion of knowledge', and policy is a case question, not a current affairs question about the policy towards the Mongolian Yuan that everyone speculated, which frustrated many people's preparations.
The example is that one day Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty was traveling, and when he passed the Zhongwei Bridge in the north of Chang'an City, a person suddenly ran out from under the bridge, causing the horse that pulled the emperor to be frightened, and Emperor Wen was almost injured. The emperor then ordered the guards to arrest the man and hand him over to the chief justice of the Han Dynasty, Zhang Shizhi, for interrogation. After interrogation, it turned out that the person was a countryman from Chang'an County, because he heard the shouting of the road ban, so he hid under the bridge, and after a long time, he thought that the emperor's car had passed, so he ran out, and who knew that he collided with the emperor (at that time, this was called "committing a crime"). The question is, if you are Zhang Shizhi, how to deal with this case?
As for arithmetic, because the number of applicants is small, there are more than 30 people selected. However, Zhao Yu does attach great importance to it, because he knows very well that mathematics is the most basic discipline of modern science, which is applicable to all walks of life and disciplines. However, he also knows that the current level of mathematics is still very low, so he only came up with ten application questions, which are now the questions of the second grade of junior high school quiz, to see the real ability of a group of scholars who represent the highest level of mathematics in the Great Song Dynasty.
Because there are many candidates, including 300 people in the Jinshi Section, 210 people in the Ming Law Section, and 120 people in the Ming Classics Section, there is no palace in the North Palace that can accommodate these more than 600 people, so the main examination room is set up in the square in front of the palace. Tables and low stools have already been set up, and tea and snacks have been prepared since the time will run from midnight to noon.
Zhao Hao, as the main examiner, naturally could not sit in the open air, but sat down under the middle door hole. He looked at the examination room and suddenly had the feeling of taking the final exam in the big playground in his previous life, but now the prison has been replaced by courtiers, and the officers and soldiers of the guard battalion are patrolling the field, and he suddenly has a sense of accomplishment as the main examiner, and finally it is his turn to raise his eyebrows, and he doesn't have to lie on the bench to answer the questions.
As soon as the test questions were hung out, Zhao Yu found that the faces of several presidents and vice presidents around him were wrong, but this was not as expected, because there were no ready-made answers to these two questions in the textbook. Especially the essay question, I am afraid that no one has heard of this idea at the moment, and it seems to them to be even more deviant.
Knowledge is the beginning of action, and action is the completion of knowledge. This sentence comes from Wang Yangming, the founder of the Ming Dynasty's psychology, whose Confucius, Mencius, and Zhu Xi are called the four masters of Confucianism, Confucius, Mencius, Zhu, and Wang. His doctrine and thought were the most influential in the Ming Dynasty, not only in China, but also in Japan, the Korean Peninsula and Southeast Asia. For this Confucian scholar who will not appear until two or three hundred years later, of course the people of the Great Song Dynasty will not know, let alone know his doctrine.
Wang Yangming believes in the relationship between thinking and action: it is intended to emphasize the unity of knowledge and action. The so-called knowledge is the thinking and understanding of all aspects of things, and only when you think clearly and understand clearly can you start to act; The so-called action is to put into practice those things that are clear and clear to be thought about, so that we can achieve something. Wang Yangming pointed out that the study of sages is the study of body and mind, and its essence lies in the realization and practice, and it should not be regarded as pure knowledge and merely between words and ears.
Therefore, in terms of the relationship between knowledge and action, Wang Mingyang started from "the unity of heaven and earth and all things", and opposed Zhu Xi's theory of "prophets and then deeds". He believes that since he knows this truth, he must put it into practice. If we only claim to know and do not practice, then we cannot call ourselves true knowing, and true knowledge is inseparable from practice.
At present, science is prevalent, and Zhao Yu made such a question that contradicts science for the scholars to discuss, so in the eyes of several invigilating ministers, the emperor is not sleepy, this is simply to overturn the doctrine that has become public in the past. But at the moment, no one could figure out the emperor's intentions, whether he was testing the scholars or being different, so he didn't dare to say more.
And that policy topic also made the ministers feel that the little emperor was too bad, in fact, this question should be said that there are many debates in ancient and modern times, and there is no right or wrong. And right and wrong are all in the little emperor's heart, once he refutes his ideas, he will definitely be excluded. And if you guess the little emperor's mind correctly, no matter how bad the article is, it will also be in his eyes, not only can he win the gold list, but he will also enjoy official luck in the future.
Everyone knows that "the Dharma is the same as the Son of Heaven and the world", which is actually the common wish of Confucianism. Zhang Shizhi reported the case to Emperor Wen, and then put forward a punishment opinion: "According to the law of the Han Dynasty, if one person commits a crime, he should be fined." When Emperor Wen of Han heard this, he was furious and said, "This man has shocked my horse, but fortunately this horse is tame, if I change to another horse, I may be injured." Tingwei, you only sentenced him to a fine? ”
Zhang Shizhi said: "The law, the Son of Heaven and the world are also public. Now the law stipulates that it should be enforced in accordance with the law. If Your Majesty wants to increase the punishment, the law will not trust the people. When that person committed a crime, if Your Majesty had killed him, it would have been fine, but now it has been handed over to my court lieutenant, and I, as a court lieutenant, should enforce the law fairly, if there is a deviation, then the judges of the world will be arbitrary, then the common people will not be at a loss? I hope Your Majesty will be clear. "Wen Di thought for a long time and admitted that Zhang Shizhi was right.
According to the records of historical books, it is obvious that the judicial philosophy upheld by Judge Zhang Shizhi is that after a case enters the judicial process, the judge should adjudicate it in accordance with the law, and the emperor cannot intervene. Zhang Shizhi's sentence "The law, the Son of Heaven and the public of the world" has also been quoted many times by later generations of judges to counter the monarch's intention to bend the law for personal gain.
However, when the scholars and judges of the Song Dynasty mentioned this case of "committing a crime", they were still very dissatisfied with Zhang Shizhi, because Zhang Shizhi also said, "When that person commits a crime, if Your Majesty kills him, it will be fine." They believe that as a court lieutenant in charge of justice, he really should not say such stupid words that violate legal principles, such as Hong Mai's criticism of Zhang Shizhi's remarks is tantamount to "enlightening people to kill people."
The great Confucian Lu Jiuyuan even questioned from a tricky angle: Assuming that the law of the Han Dynasty stipulates that "those who commit crimes will not be killed", should the court lieutenant also firmly handle the case in accordance with the law and execute the unlucky and innocent countryman? Lu Jiuyuan's answer was: It is not possible to be executed. He traces back to an ancient judicial principle recorded in the Book of Shang: if a person commits a major sin, but it is accidental, negligent rather than intentional, and he confesses his crime, then he cannot be sentenced to death.
According to this ancient judicial principle, Lu Jiuyuan believed that the countryman in the "guilty case" was only an occasional mistake, and there was no criminal intent, even if he injured Emperor Wen of Han, he should be punished lightly, not to mention that Emperor Wen was not injured. If the law of the time violated such judicial principles, the judge should ask the emperor to amend the law to bring it into conformity with justice. Therefore, Zhang Shizhi should explain the legal principles to Emperor Wen clearly, instead of perfunctory with "the law is so prescribed today".
Thinking about the fact that the great Confucians of this dynasty do not have the same opinions, then it is even more difficult for the scholars, and it is only difficult to be satisfied if they simply use the case to discuss the case, and they are afraid that they will not know to offend the examiner. But if you insist on the view that 'the Dharma, the Son of Heaven and the public of the world', I am afraid that the emperor will be unhappy again, who knows if this is a test of their attitude towards the king!
In fact, Zhao Hao's idea is very simple, hoping to select those with similar ideas to himself through the examination, so as to prepare for the further implementation of the new policy. On the other hand, he hopes to select some practical talents from them, rather than those nerds who can only memorize the provisions by rote, but do not understand the application, even if he can write flowers, but he does not know anything about official business, then in the eyes of Zhao Hao, he is not as useful as an illiterate farmer, at least he can grow food and pay taxes for the country. And it is nothing more than a waste of food and the country.
In addition, since Zhao Yu was in power, thinking twice has become a phrase on the lips of courtiers, who think that this is the best advice to impulsive young people, and he also knows that this sentence is still highly respected by the world in later generations. Because it is believed that deliberate decisions are the best, and deliberate actions can be carried out smoothly.
For thinking twice, Zhao Hao feels that there is nothing wrong with thinking and acting, thinking and acting is a very important thing in life for a normal person, such as people's life, old age, sickness and death, which is unavoidable. From dealing with trivial family matters to grasping the lifeblood of the country, people who act without thinking and think a lot but do not act, will lose their family at least and ruin the country at worst. Thinking and acting should not be one or the other, and this is also a painful lesson accumulated in China's history for more than 1,000 years.
What Zhao Hao hated was only misfortune, which formed an atmosphere of emphasizing thinking and ignoring action in society. Perhaps it is too cautious, too insouciable, people spend a lot of time and energy in infinite contemplation, and as a result, the more they think about it, the more they feel that they are not fully prepared, the more they think about it, the more they feel that there is a big problem, and the ideas that could have been tried become impossible tasks, and they end up in nothing.
However, Zhao Hao understands that because the four-dimensional space of human beings is infinitely wide and is not forcibly bound by objective things and abilities, therefore, when he thinks about it, he deviates from the right track, and the more he thinks about it, the farther he thinks, and he can't find the point. When people swim in the ocean of ideas for too long and do not come ashore to put it into practice, the result is undoubtedly suffocated and completely lose the opportunity and ability to put it into practice, which is also Wang Yang's view of the unity of knowledge and action.
Zhao Yu is a pragmatist, he does not understand all of Wang Yangming's views, nor does he understand his so-called psychology, but he thinks that as long as it helps to maintain his rule, he can use it. And this is in line with his own view of 'practice brings true knowledge', and it also helps to change the current atmosphere, as for whether it conflicts with Zhu Xi's philosophy, it is secondary, he only wants a doer, but not a dreamer.
In addition, Zhao Yu and his two lives have also seen the essence of some things clearly, there is no perfect and correct doctrine in the world, it is just born from time, it is correct in this environment, and it is wrong to change the time and place, just like Zhu Xi and Wang Yangming, who are masters of Confucianism at the same time, can they tell who is right and who is wrong if they are divorced from reality?
Therefore, Zhao Yu believes that eating when hungry and sleeping when sleepy is the greatest principle, and the strong always think that a big fist is the axiom of the world. And at the moment, destroying Meng Yuan and restoring the Central Plains is the right reason, everything must be done around this goal, as for whether it is a deviant and strange theory, wait for future generations to comment, or wait for yourself to complete the great cause, and then reflect on it......
