Chapter Ninety-Nine: Interpretation

Hippocrates, in the future, may be one of the most famous physicians in the world.

This ancient Greek medical scientist, after the Eastern Roman Empire began to Hellenize, became the originator of traditional medicine in the Western world, and was respected as the father of medicine.

The most famous, of course, is the doctrine of humoral humor.

Hippocrates' theory of humor was later developed by the Roman physician Galen, and later became one of the theoretical foundations of traditional Western medicine.

When Li Yuanjia was in medical school, the textbooks contained these things.

Of course, there are only a few sentences in the initial introduction, after all, Western traditional medicine is like Chinese traditional medicine, and most of the content in the modern medical system also exists in the medical history section.

It's just that Hippocrates is famous among medical students not because of his theory of body fluids.

The most important is the Hippocratic Oath, which was revised by the General Assembly of the Association of Physicians of the World in 1948 and named the Geneva Declaration, which eventually became the code of ethics for physicians around the world. In the future, the "Medical Student Oath" issued by the National Education Commission of China, as well as the oath of doctors in other countries, in a sense, refers to the Hippocratic Oath, and every medical student must read it along.

So as long as you are studying medicine, most people have heard of this name.

The reason why Li Yuanjia took out this sage of the West was because he remembered a legend about Hippocrates.

Legend has it that there was a plague epidemic in Athens, and many people suffered from fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe skin ulcers, and a large part of them died one after another. Hippocrates rushed to treat the patients in Athens, but due to the limitations of his medical knowledge, he did not know how to treat this kind of art. But after traveling all over the city, Hippocrates discovers a strange phenomenon, and that is that people in all walks of life can get sick, with one exception, and that is the blacksmith!

This phenomenon was strange to Hippocrates, and he investigated the reasons for it.

Hippocrates, who lived in the fifth century BC, could not have known the real reason, but he had a bold guess that the blacksmiths did not get sick because of the presence of fire around them!

Could the blazing flames be the nemesis of the plague?

So at the suggestion of Hippocrates, fires were lit all over Athens, and the plague was finally defeated......

Whether this legend is true or not, no one can be sure, in fact, even whether Hippocrates really existed in history is also a topic of endless debate in historiography.

But for Li Yuanjia, why bother with this?

He just wants to find a source for his theory, and the legend of Hippocrates just meets his requirements, as for whether this person is true or not, whether the legend exists, Li Yuanjia doesn't care at all.

So when explaining to the emperor and Lu Guogong the reason why spirits can save people, Li Yuanjia took out this Hippocrates doctor.

Based on various medical books and "legends", Li Yuanjia summarized three major theoretical foundations.

Theoretical basis 1, debridement.

There are various toxins between heaven and earth, and these toxins are the root cause of people's illness. Both the West and China have similar theories since ancient times, and it is very easy to understand. In Li Yuanjia's "inductive summary", the wounds of the soldiers were purulent and rotten, all of which were caused by toxins invading the human body due to injuries.

Therefore, the first step in dealing with trauma is to clean the wound.

In the "Zhou Li", it is recorded that "ulcer doctors, palm swollen ulcers, ulcers, and ulcers are blessed with medicine to kill." This means that doctors can treat sores, carbuncles, and bruises. Among them, "劀" is the meaning of scraping off pus and blood, which is quite a modern sore-clearing technique. And the ulcer doctor is actually the earliest surgeon.

Theoretical basis two, disinfection.

According to Hippocrates, fire destroys toxins, so it should also prevent suppuration and decay of wounds. But flames can also hurt people, so you should look for something that has a similar effect to flames, but doesn't hurt people, such as high-concentration alcohol that ignites and is extremely strong.

Moreover, in the "Lingshu Carbuncle Chapter", there is also a record of "scratching with alcohol, (and) for a long time (moxibustion) its scabs, do not let the wind and it", plus the tradition of using fire, such as red-hot iron tools to treat wounds in China since ancient times, is also one of the "roots" that Li Yuanjia can take out.

Theoretical basis 3, isolation of toxins.

Toxins are everywhere and in the air, so after removing the toxins from the wound with spirits, it is also necessary to apply something clean to the outside of the wound to prevent the re-invasion of toxins. And the so-called clean things here also need to be treated with flames, such as steamed cotton cloth......

"Your Majesty, please see, this is the cloth bag specially prepared by the courtier, I call it Wu...... Ahem, non-toxic pack! ”

After asking Han Lucheng to bring a small package, Li Yuanjia smiled and said, "There is steamed cotton cloth in it...... It is a cloth woven from cotton, and this package on the outside has also been steamed to ensure that there is no toxin! Once the wound has been treated with water and spirits, it is time to wrap the wound with them. ”

More than 1,000 years later, the sterile bag is actually not too difficult to make.

Of course, because of the problems of technology and materials, Li Yuanjia is actually not sure whether it can really be sterile, but one thing is certain, that is, this thing must be countless times stronger than what other doctors use to wrap wounds in this era!

"In addition, this is the needle and thread prepared by the younger brother, and it has also been steamed."

After putting down the sterile bag, Li Yuanjia picked up another cloth bag and patiently explained.

When they heard this, everyone else was stunned, and Cheng Zhijie was even more surprised: "King, this is ...... What is the use of this front? ”

"Lu Guogong, this is for stitching up wounds."

Taking a deep breath, Li Yuanjia smiled and said: "This king has read the former Sui medical book "Treatise on the Origin and Syndrome of Diseases", which once recorded the methods of the former Sui physicians to deal with intestinal severers, and in the book, Chao Yuanfang also said that when dealing with it, it is necessary to cut off his bloodline...... So I thought, if you use plant ash or a red-hot soldering iron to stop the bleeding, it may not be the best way! After all, many people's injuries are already serious, and this burn ......"

“…… Well. ”

After listening to Li Yuanjia's words, Cheng Zhijie and Li Shimin's faces suddenly darkened.

For half their lives, they had seen too many soldiers who had died because of it.

It's just that they thought that those people were dying of pain, and Li Yuanjia knew that the cause of their death was shock.

Looking at Cheng Zhijie and Li Shimin's gloomy expressions, as well as their doubts that were slightly relieved in the face of many evidence, Li Yuanjia secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart - for this day, he didn't know how many Chinese medical books he had read and how many foreign medical books he had fabricated, and his efforts were finally not in vain......
