Interlude: Shadow (1)
BPRD secret training ground, five years ago.
"This time, your training results are not up to par again, Chikusa Wakaba. Instructor Mano said as he looked at Chikusa Wakaba with a straight face.
"I'm sorry, instructor. Chikusa Wakaba lowered her head, her black hair completely wet with sweat.
There was a burst of laughter from the team, and Mano glanced at the team, and then reprimanded sharply, "What's so funny! I see that you are not tired from training today, so why don't you train for a while!"
"I'm sorry, we were wrong, Instructor!" Hearing what the instructor had just said, everyone immediately stopped laughing and stood upright.
"I don't believe what you guys say! Now start the ten-kilometer trail now, quick, if I don't see you before dinner begins, then you won't have to sleep tonight!"
"Yes!" all of them accepted the order, despite their reluctance.
None of these guys looked like warriors at all, and they were still too young. Mano looked at the departing backs of everyone and thought to himself that they still had a long way to go.
The competition in the BPRD is fierce, and no more than five percent of the people who can stay until the end are made, and Mano is here to train them to hone their will and physical strength.
In the evening, when people finally came back one after another, Mano remembered everyone who came back, and he looked down at the watch in his hand, and his brow couldn't help but furrow.
The last man finally returned, and as Mano expected, that person was none other than Chikusa Wakaha.
"You're late. Mano said coldly, "Wakaba, you really don't fit to stay here and continue training, I suggest you leave here." ”
"No, I'm not going to leave here. Chigusa Wakaba stubbornly replied, "I'm going to stay here and finish my training and then join the BPRD." ”
"Well, it seems that no matter what I say, there is no way to change your mind. "But you're still late, so according to the rules, you can't go back to sleep tonight." ”
"Yes, Instructor Mano!" replied in a loud voice, "I'm willing to accept the punishment." ”
"Then you will stand here for the night!" Mano ordered, "I will send someone over from time to time to check, and don't let me find out that you are lazy!"
"Yes!"
Mano wanted to say something more, but when he saw Chikusa Wakaba's unwavering eyes, he swallowed back what he wanted to say.
At night, Chikusa Wakaba stood alone, forcing herself to open her eyes, even though her eyelids were constantly trembling.
Instructor Mano's words rang in her ears again, and Chikusa Wakaba suddenly wanted to find a place to cry, but she finally restrained her thoughts.
"I really don't understand why she's staying?" said one of the trainees, looking at Chikusa Wakaba through the window, "Rex, we're the smartest you're here, can you figure out why?"
"Don't ask me anything, Bena. Rex yawned as he lay on the bed, "I'm not her, how could I possibly know what's going on in her mind." ”
"That's right. Bednar grinned, "But Rex, you're number one now, and that guy is the opposite, right?"
"What's the use of being number one?" Rex said indifferently, "I'm just doing it as usual, which just means that their training intensity isn't too high." ”
"Here you go again. Benett couldn't help but kick Rex, "It's not hard for you, but it's different for us. ”
"What are you afraid of, with your current grades, you will definitely be able to stay, don't worry too much. ”
"I'm not worried. Bena muttered, "By the way, Rex, you haven't heard a single rumor. ”
"What kind of boring rumor again?"
"I heard that the probe detected the demon's energy fluctuations in our place, so now some people say that the demon is actually lurking among us trainees. ”
"Only a fool would believe it. Rex said nonchalantly, "There's absolutely no evidence to prove, I'm sure it's a rumor." ”
"Perhaps. Bednar yawned as she lay down on her bed, "Who knows?
It was so cold, Chikusa Wakakaha was shivering all over, the temperature at night was simply bone-chilling, and the training clothes she was wearing now had no way to resist the cold wind, and she felt like she was going to pass out several times.
"Hey, catch!" Suddenly a voice came from behind her, and as soon as Chikusa Wakaba turned her head suddenly, a black object suddenly covered her face.
Chikusa Wakaba took the black object off, and when she looked closely, she realized that it was a thermal suit, and in front of her, Rex was looking at her with a smile on his face.
"It's you. Chikusa Wakaba also smiled, "I thought you were asleep." ”
"I can't let you get cold outside. Rex took a bag from his bosom, "I secretly left you a loaf of bread, you haven't eaten tonight." ”
Ten minutes later, Chikusa Wakaba, who had eaten the bread cleanly, was wiping her mouth while Rex stood beside her and looked at her face.
"What are you doing?" Chikusa Wakaba felt as if her face was flushing a little.
"Nothing. Rex let out a sigh, "I'll be here with you tonight, or you'll be bored." ”
"Really, whatever you want. Chikusa Wakaba said to him.
Rex was the only friend of Wakaba Chigusa in this group of trainees, but contrary to her results, Rex was the first in every event.
Chikusa Wakaba still remembers the first time they met, it was after the first training test, Chikusa Wakaba, who watched her last place finish, hid in the most remote corner of the training ground and cried.
"Found you. A pair of hands suddenly put on her shoulders, and Chigusa Wakaba looked up, she recognized the person in front of her, who was the first in this training performance, Rex.
"Are you here to laugh at me?" Chigusa Wakaha blurted out subconsciously, "If so, just laugh, and leave here as soon as you're done." ”
"I'm not going to do that kind of boring thing. Rex frowned, "Isn't it just that the training is bad? What's the matter, those guys who laugh at others are the most disgusting!"
"But I can't do anything. Chikusa Wakaba lowered her head and said, "No matter what, I can't meet the requirements, and I'm the one who drags everyone back." ”
"Don't give up. Rex crouched down and looked into Chikusa Wakaba's eyes, "Don't care what others think of you, the important thing is to be yourself, I'll always watch everything about you, Wakaba." ”
Rex held out his hand to her, and Chigusa Wakaba hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and grabbed her hand.
"That's right. Rex smiled, "As long as you don't give up, as long as you stick to your own path, no matter what kind of fate you have, you will be changed!"
The two of them have been friends since that day, Rex will often help Chikusa Wakaba in training, consciously or unconsciously, and in their free time they will talk to each other, and before they know it, they will become like confidants.
"Wakaba, training will be over in a few months. Rex suddenly said, "I'll definitely stay, but you." ”
Chigusa Wakaba knew what Rex meant: "I understand, Rex, I will definitely do my best to stay, I must prove myself to that guy!"
Rex knew who the guy Chikusa Wakaba was talking about, Chikusa Wakaha's father, a man who didn't smile at all, and it was because of him that Chikusa Wakaba came here.
"I had to tell my father anyway that he was wrong. There seemed to be tears in Chikusa Wakaba's eyes, "I must join the BPRD!"
"I'm sure you can do it. Rex said to her, "You can do it, I'll keep an eye on you." ”
"I'll keep an eye on you, Rex. Chikusa Wakaba smiled and said, "Let's work together no matter what." ”
In the conference room, several people were looking at the comer with suspicious eyes.
"You've been watching it long enough. The visitor said unceremoniously, "I've come here to have something to say to you." ”
"What do you want to say?" asked Philip, the chief officer in charge of the training ground.
"You should have monitored the fluctuations of demonic energy here. The comer replied, "I can tell you who the person who emitted this energy is, and you should be a little interested." ”
"Who is it?" asked Liaison Officer Winston.
"It's a trainee named Rex Field, and I think you know him well as an instructor. The visitor turned his gaze to Mano.
"I trained him with my own hands, and I've been watching him closely, and I can be called friends with him, and I don't think there's anything unusual about him. Mano replied.
"It's not so much suspicious of Rex as you are suspicious!" Winston shouted at a loud voice, "why should we trust such a suspicious fellow, maybe he's the real enemy." ”
"You've been watching in the shadows. "I've noticed you several times, but this time you just took advantage of the night to break here, who are you, and what is your purpose?"
"You don't want to do it here, do you?" Mano, glancing at the three of them in turn, "I advise you to save your energy, if you do, it won't do us any good." ”
"You'll have to answer our questions first. Philip said in a deep voice, "Otherwise, we can't believe what you say, how can we suspect a trainee without any suspicion without any evidence." ”
"Whatever you want. The visitor said, "Don't you have a test device, I suggest you test it while they are training, and then maybe you will understand." ”
The three of them looked at each other, and suspicion had already been revealed among their artists.
"I've said everything I need to say. Knowing that they had succeeded in planting the seeds of doubt in their hearts, "The rest is up to you, and we'll have a chance to meet again." ”
The visitor jumped out of the window, and by the time Mano stepped forward to check, he was completely nowhere to be found.
"Do you believe him?" asked Philip.
"Believe it. "I don't believe it at all under normal circumstances, but the frequency of this energy fluctuation is too high, and it might be worth trying his way." ”
"What about your opinion? Philip asked Mano.
"I believe in my own students. Mano replied, his eyes flickering faintly. "But now I'm afraid that's the only way, and I agreed to test all the trainees during training. ”
"Okay!" Philip nodded, "then bring the monitoring equipment covertly during training tomorrow, remember that it must not be known to the trainees, and everything must be done in secret." ”
"Understood!" Mano and Winston agreed, but the gloom on their faces did not dissipate.
