147 Wei Yan and the women he was related to
Among the generals of the Three Kingdoms, the nineteenth is Wei Yan.
…… ……
Wei Yan (?) ——234), a native of Yiyang (now Tongbai, Henan), was deeply valued by Liu Bei.
In the sixteenth year of Jian'an (211), Liu Bei was invited by Liu Zhang to enter Sichuan to help Liu Zhang resist Zhang Lu, and Wei Yan followed Liu Bei into Shu to fight, and Liu Bei's army went north to resist Zhang Lu and stationed in Jia (jiā) Meng.
In the second year, Liu Bei broke with Liu Zhang, raised troops to attack Liu Zhang, and sent Zhuo Ying and Huang Zhong to occupy Fucheng, when Liu Bei's army was less than 10,000 and there was no food for the lone army, and Liu Zhang used the tactics of fortifying the wall and clearing the wilderness, and sent Liu Zhang, Zhang Ren, Ling Bao, Deng Xian, Wu Yi and other generals to lead the elite to block Liu Bei's army.
Liu Beijun broke Liu Zhang's army, and later sent Huang Zhong, Wei Yan and other sub-unified troops to pacify Guanghan County, and several of them had military exploits and was promoted to Yamen General.
In the nineteenth year of Jian'an (214), Wei Yan conquered the important town of Ruocheng with Liu Bei, and besieged Chengdu with Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei and others.
…… ……
Liu Bei in the twenty-fourth year of Jian'an (219 years) in the Yang Dynasty proclaimed himself the king of Hanzhong, and set the rule in Chengdu, so, when the general of the town of Hanzhong, most people's opinions at that time thought that Zhang Fei should serve as the Hanzhong Taishou, Zhang Fei also felt that this position belonged to him, but Liu Bei unexpectedly promoted Wei Yan to the governor of Hanzhong, the Taishou of Hanzhong, and promoted Wei Yan from the general of Yamen to the general of Zhenyuan.
The whole army was shocked when they heard this.
One day, Liu Bei met with the ministers and asked Wei Yan, "I entrusted you with an important task, do you plan to say something?" ”
Wei Yan replied loudly, "If Cao Cao comes with all the strength of the country, I ask for the king to block him, and if a partial general comes with an army of 100,000, I ask for the king to annex him." ”
Liu Bei was very satisfied after hearing this, and the ministers also praised Wei Yan's heroism.
…… ……
When he was in his hometown in Henan, Wei Yan had a wife's room, but he never gave birth to him, and when he was relatively stable in Hanzhong, he took his hometown's wife room to Hanzhong, and at the same time, he accepted two concubines, and later gave birth to several sons, but they were all killed by Ma Dai and Wei Yan.
…… ……
In the first year of Zhang Wu (221), Liu Bei proclaimed himself emperor, established Shu Han, and Wei Yanjin was named the general of Zhenbei.
Liu Bei died, the crown prince Liu Chan ascended the throne, and Wei Yan was named the Marquis of Duting.
…… ……
In the fifth year of Jianxing (227), Zhuge Liang was stationed in Hanzhong in preparation for the Northern Expedition, and promoted Wei Yan to the prime minister Sima and Liangzhou Thorn History.
Cao Wei three-way army attacked the Hanzhong region of Shu Han, two of which were returned due to heavy rain, at this time Wei Yan also led a partial division west into Qiangzhong, attacking Cao Wei Liangzhou area, Wei Yan led the army to the Yangxi area, met Cao Wei Hou General Fei Yao, Yongzhou Assassin Shi Guo Huai's army, the two armies fought, Wei Yan broke Fei Yao and Guo Huai.
Wei Yan, who won a great victory, was also promoted to the former military division and the general of the expedition to the west, and was awarded the false festival and was named the Marquis of Southern Zheng.
Zhuge Liang's fourth Northern Expedition confronted Sima Yi.
According to the record of "Spring and Autumn of the Han Dynasty", Sima Yi made Zhang He attack Wang Ping in Nanwei, Zhuge Liang made Wei Yan, Gao Xiang, and Wu Ban fight against each other, and the Wei soldiers were defeated and won the first 3,000 ranks, and Sima Yi returned to the camp.
Wei Yan and Liu Yan were at odds, their words were false, Zhuge Liang blamed Liu Yan, and Liu Yan later wrote an apology.
Every time Wei Yan accompanied the army on the Northern Expedition, he asked Zhuge Liang to give him the command of 10,000 soldiers, and he went all the way to tackle the key problems, and finally joined Zhuge Liang in Tongguan, just like the example of the former Han general Han Xin, but Zhuge Liang has not allowed it, so Wei Yan often said that Zhuge Liang was timid and hated that his talents could not be fully used.
According to the record of the "Three Kingdoms" supplement "Wei Luo": During Zhuge Liang's first Northern Expedition, Wei Yan once made a suggestion at the military meeting, because the Chang'an guard general Xiahou Mao (楙mào) was cowardly and had no plan, so he was willing to invite 5,000 elite soldiers to take Chang'an directly from the Meridian Valley, and thought that Xiahou Mao (mào) would definitely abandon the city and flee, and Zhuge Liang thought that this plan was in danger and should not be used.
Wei Yan is good at raising soldiers and is brave, but he has an arrogant personality and an extremely evil temperament, and everyone avoids him.
Yang Yi was the only one who disdained Wei Yan and became intimidating with him, and even made several attempts to kill Yang Yi with a knife; Zhuge Liang cherishes the two, and Fei Yi often mediates for the two.
…… ……
Zhuge Liang's Fifth Northern Expedition, Wei Yan was appointed as the striker, dreamed that he had horns on his head, and asked Zhao Zhi, the dreamer, Zhao Zhi said, "The husband Qilin has horns but does not use it, and this is a thief who wants to destroy himself without a fight." ”
Stepping back, Zhao Zhi said to others, "The horn is the word, and the knife is also used; With a knife on the head, it is very fierce. ”
In the autumn of the same year, Zhuge Liang's illness worsened, and he secretly retired from the army after the death of Changshi Yang Yi, Sima Feiyi, and Jiang Wei, etc., so that after Wei Yan was broken, if he delayed or did not obey his orders, he would do as he pleased.
Zhuge Liang died, and he was not mourned, Yang Yi ordered Fei Yi to figure out Wei Yan's intentions. Wei Yan replied, "Although the prime minister is dead, but there is still me, how can the world's major affairs be wasted because of the death of one person?" Besides, who am I, Wei Yan, and how can I be at the mercy of Yang Yi and be a general after the break? ”
The army slowly retreated with Yang Yi, Wei Yan was furious, day and night, rushed in front of Yang Yi's army, and burned the pavilion everywhere he walked.
Yang Yi and Wei Yan both went to each other to say that the other party had rebelled, and Liu Chan asked Dong Yun and Shi Jiangwan, the governor of the palace, who wanted to rebel, and Dong Jiang and Jiang both guaranteed that Yang Yi suspected Wei Yan.
Wei Yan first occupied the mouth of the Nangu and led his army to attack Yang Yi's army, and Yang Yi ordered Wang Ping to defend against Wei Yan in front.
Wang Ping scolded Wei Yan's vanguard, "Zhuge Gong died, and his bones are not cold, how dare you people do this!" ”
Wei Yan's army knew that Wei Yan was at fault, and they didn't listen to Wei Yan's orders, so they all dispersed. Only Wei Yan and his sons fled to Hanzhong, Yang Yi sent Ma Dai to catch up with Wei Yan and behead him, offering his head to Yang Yi, Yang Yi trampled Wei Yan's head with his feet, and scolded, "Yong slave! Can you do evil again? ”
So, exterminate the three clans of Wei Yan.
…… ……
"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" said: Yuan Yanyi did not surrender to Wei in the north and returned to the south, but wanted to eliminate the killing instrument and so on.
Hao Jing of the Yuan Dynasty believed that Yang Yi killed the general with personal anger, and the crime was in the future.
The above is the record of the biography of Chen Shou, the author of "Three Kingdoms".
However, according to Pei's note quoted in "Wei Luo", it was Wei Yan who was entrusted by Zhuge Liang with military power, and Yang Yi was afraid that Wei Yan would take the opportunity to harm him, so he spread rumors that Wei Yan was going north to join the enemy and sent troops to attack him, but Wei Yan, who was framed, was afraid that it would be innocent to fight with him, so he only fled without fighting, and was finally hunted down.
Pei Songzhi believes that this statement is a rumor of Cao Wei, and the "Three Kingdoms" of Chen Shou of Shu Han is more credible.

Climb up the stone stairs along the cypress arch guard, and you will see an antique building between the pines and cypresses, which is the Wei Yan Temple.
Wei Yan Temple is located in Wolong Mountain Thousand Buddha Rock Zhuge Zhai East Changsheng Gate under the east foot of the Jinggang Ping, Ziwo (Zitong - Wolong Town) highway passes in front of the ancestral hall, the road is north, the Weijia River meanders eastward. Around the ancestral hall, the environment is quiet.
Wei Yan Temple has a radius of ten miles, there are many surnames, but there is no surname Wei, but there is a Weijia River in front of the ancestral hall. According to the memories of the local octogenarian man, there was a Weijiahe temple in the east of the Weijiahe River, and there were three stone tablets in front of the temple, one of which was engraved with "Wei Yan led his troops to be stationed here".
In the seventh year of Jianxing (231 AD), when Zhuge Liang led the army to the north for the fourth time, the army was stationed in Zhuge Village, Wolong Mountain, and Wei Yan led his troops and horses to be stationed in Jinggangping, south of the Weijia River, to form a corner to respond, which was consistent with Zhuge Liang's cautious use of troops.
It is said that the weather was unbearably hot at that time, and Wei Yan found a large flock of birds gathering in a mountain forest, and decided to stay there.
Because of the continuous fall of guano, the officers and soldiers had to cook a little away from the woods. However, no water source was found. A large flock of sparrows gathered on top of Wei Yan's troops, and the surprised soldiers planned to blast the sparrows away.
Wei Yan also saw a large flock of sparrows, however, he found a white sparrow among them and was attracted to this white sparrow.
He chased the white sparrow to a rock field, and suddenly, the white sparrow miraculously disappeared through a crack in the rock.
Wei Yan was amazed, and he tried to push the rock, but unexpectedly, the rock collapsed and the spring gushed out.
It turned out that under the rock was a stream of groundwater. The officers and soldiers found a source of water for cooking and bathing, and the local farmers, who had suffered from drought for a long time, were also very happy, and they called this underground water the Weiyan River.
It is said that at that time, Wei Yan often wore a war robe, led a war horse, and held a big knife to drink horses and patrol by the river.
Later, in order to cherish the historical site of the Weiyan garrison, people built the Weijiahe Temple on the side of the Weiyan River, and built a small bridge on the river, named "General Bridge". The Weijiahe Temple was destroyed in 1968, and the stone tablet engraved with "Wei Yan led troops to be stationed here" is also missing. However, the General Bridge still exists, but it is usually not in the water, and the bridge can be seen when the water recedes in June and July every year.
There was a Wei Yan Temple in the history of Jinggangping, and later due to the order of the government, the Wei Yan Temple was demolished. The current Wei Yan Temple was rebuilt in 1995.
Wei Yan Temple, the palace is majestic, in the middle, there is a statue of Wei Yan, dignified and mighty, quite a general's demeanor. The plaque of "Wei Yan Temple" was inscribed by Mr. Shen Bojun, executive vice president of the Chinese "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" Society.
On the corridor of the ancestral hall, there are three stone tablets, which are respectively engraved with "Introduction to Wei Yan, Marquis of Nanzheng", "Wei Yan led the troops to be stationed here to certify the inscription", and "Wei Yan Ancestral Hall Investigation Record".
On the left side of the main hall of Wei Yan Temple, it is the Taoist hall, there are some statues of Taoist characters, there are Taoist protector god Wang Lingguan, and there is Lao Tzu, the originator of Taoism.
On the upper right of Wei Yan Temple, there are Wenchang Palace and the Big Buddha Palace, and in the Big Buddha Hall, there are three Buddhas and eighteen Arhat statues.
…… ……
Wei Yan was chased and killed by Yang Yi sent Ma Dai outside the north gate of Hanzhong, and was buried on the spot in Shimapo (or Shimayan), 2 kilometers north of present-day Hanzhong City.
