Chapter 698: Polish Campaign (1)

While Eder was talking with Fereit in Bucharest, inside the military airfield near Lviv, it was brightly lit. On the concrete runway, one after another fighter planes look majestic and majestic under the lights.

Here are all docked RU18 dive bombers known as the Romanian Stuka. It's just that compared to their counterparts in Germany who made their debut in the Spanish Civil War, Romania's RU18 dive bomber is so obscure.

However, as the latest dive bomber, the biggest difference between the RU18 dive bomber and the Stuka is that its landing gear is more retractable and more powerful. The 1,350 hp V-shaped liquid-cooled 12-cylinder engine is enough for the aircraft to reach a maximum cruising speed of 380 km/h. At the same time, its bomb load is also up to 1900kg. It can carry two 600-kilogram bombs at the same time to carry out precise bombing of targets, with a maximum combat radius of 750 kilometers.

In order to ensure the accuracy of the bombing, the RU18 dive bomber absorbs Stuka's technology, and can also dive bomb the target at an angle of 85 degrees almost at right angles.

Therefore, the RU18 dive bomber must be the main ground attack aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, and it can be seen from the dense queue of the same fighters waiting to take off at the airport.

It was a sleepless night! When the mission was issued, everyone was quite excited, the ground crew maintained the plane, refueled and hung bombs, and prepared for takeoff, while the pilots kept memorizing the target and route they were going to attack.

"Jingle bells." At this moment, the phone in the pilot's duty room rang, and the commander of the team picked up the phone and heard the voice of the superior commander inside. "The eagles immediately took off and carried out the bombing mission as planned."

"Take off now!"

The commander immediately gave the order, and the sky outside was still pitch black.

Each pilot quickly grabbed his equipment, they had been waiting for a long time, and they ran quickly from the pilot's duty room to their landline.

After turning on various switches and going through strict maintenance, this batch of aircraft is in quite good condition. With the stimulation of an electric current, the motor rumbled, and the liquid-cooled engine emitted a puff of black smoke, followed by a louder vibration.

RU18 dive bombers are all starting rapidly. Then taxi to the runway, according to the predetermined order, in the form of two planes formation, taxi and take off!

On the wings, the sky is shining with navigation lights, and it is not yet lit.

After the planes had taken off, they turned north, and they were going to fly to the territory of the Poles. And in the air, in addition to them, there are large groups of peregrine falcon RF20 fighters. These kings of the skies need to prioritize helping them deal with possible air threats.

This is also the main fighter of the Romanian Air Force to seize air supremacy, and they are tasked with seizing air supremacy. This task should be very simple for them, because the warplanes currently possessed by Poland are basically old-fashioned, and there are very few new aircraft that are suitable for today's operations.

The Polish Air Force currently has about 1,900 aircraft, but very few of them are front-line combat aircraft, with 650 of the 1,900 being training aircraft. The other 700 were obsolete or useless aircraft at the outbreak of war, and less than 400 were really useful.

Among them, the main fighters are the PZLP.11 and PZLP.7 fighters, which have less than 200 aircraft. These two fighters were good in the early 30s, but they were still far behind the modern Romanian 1, with the P.11 having a top speed of only 365 kilometers per hour, which was even lower than the speed of most bombers.

In addition to these two aircraft, there are also two bombers that attract more attention in this air raid. One of them was the twin-engine bomber, codenamed RU28, which was developed by Romania for the purpose of high-speed bombing. So this is a high-speed tactical bomber, with a maximum load of 3100KG, a maximum speed of 425 kilometers per hour, and a maximum range of 2100 kilometers, which is also the most important fast bomber for the military.

In addition to this fast bomber, there is another four-engine bomber that stands out the most, and this is a high-altitude strategic bomber. At that time, in order to deal with the threat of more and more excellent fighters, the Romanian military needed a new bomber to complete the strategic bombing behind enemy lines, considering that it needed to carry out ultra-long-distance bombing, there would be no fighter escort, so it could only find a way at high altitude and high speed, and finally the bomber chose high-altitude bombing as the foundation.

Its code name is whooper swan; The military's requirement is that the aircraft reach a maximum altitude of 11,000 meters, a maximum speed of 420 kilometers per hour, and a maximum range of 3,000 kilometers.

And the Koanda aircraft factory, which took over this task, immediately stepped up its technical public relations in this regard, because this is the first strategic bomber in Romania.

The research team of Keanda adopts a four-engine design, conventional aerodynamic layout, lower single wing, single vertical tail, and rear three-point retractable landing gear. The aircraft has a metal structure and streamlined shape, and in order to enhance its air self-defense capabilities, the aircraft is also designed with up to 12 12.7mm self-defense machine guns. These machine guns are distributed in the nose, belly, back, tail and sides of the fuselage, and are equipped with teardrop-shaped machine gun turrets, which can fire in all directions in the air and have excellent aerial firepower.

The bomber is powered by four 1,200 hp liquid-cooled engines and has a maximum speed of 458 km/h. Thanks to the use of turbochargers to improve performance, the aircraft also reached a limit of 10,900 meters (not up to the mark).

As for the maximum range, it is also due to the use of a new 1200 hp engine, which can reach a range of 3170 km. As for the bomb load of 7500KG, it can be regarded as an excellent strategic bomber that basically meets the requirements of the military.

The main reason is that the military is too demanding, which can be regarded as a test for Romania's aircraft manufacturing capabilities. The excellent performance of the new strategic aircraft naturally comes to a higher cost, and its unit price is as high as 410,000 lei, which is also the most expensive fighter in the Air Force at present.

Therefore, the military immediately gave the RU80 number after it was finalized, and only placed an order to purchase 98 aircraft, and then purchased another batch because it was very satisfied with the use.

So at present, only 279 bombers of this type have been produced, and they are numbered as two strategic bomber wings (194 and 224 strategic bomber wings).

And this time the multi-Polish operation, the Air Force also threw it into it. The main thing is to examine its bombing effect and combat performance.

These black-pressed fighters, taking advantage of the glimmer of light in the sky, flew towards the hinterland of Poland, where they knew nothing.

And when the planes strike first, the ground army is also not far behind.
