Chapter 21: Dogfight (2)
The doctor, whom we had captured, pointed to a hill about three or four hundred meters away from us, and told us that when he came from there, he saw that it was intended to be used as a place to place the wounded and to direct the battle. Then Yugovic asked the man about the situation of the opposing team, the staffing, the armament. The man's answer, perhaps because he was not a combatant, was not clear about these questions, only the approximate number of people and where they appeared, but he mentioned that it was not only people from Macedonia who came here to fight. This made Milk and I wary, and looking at the old guy's appearance, he should have noticed this, but he didn't seem surprised.
"Two. I think we should scout first. Looking at the specific situation, if the other party's headquarters is behind the mountain, as the guy said, this matter will be much simpler. Jugovic said.
I nodded and looked at Yugovich and Milk, "Then I'll take someone with me." ”
"Nope." Yugovic shook his hand, "This mission is still more suitable for me, I am more familiar with this place than you are." It's not just the environment, but I'm too familiar with our opponents than you are. I'll take a look. ”
"Then I'll go with you. After all, when the time comes, I will have to take people with me. I insisted.
Yugovic didn't argue, nodded and said, "Then let's take two people each to set off." Others are here to be on the lookout. ”
So Yugovich set off with two of his men, and I set off with a tank of oil and a captain. The reason for bringing these two people is that they will take on a certain role of leading and commanding the team after the attack.
Yugovich led the way, and from the other side of the hill there were gunshots, which slowly became more and more intense. It felt like a group of people were surrounding and preparing for a siege. The grass is deep in the area leading to the mountain, and in some places it is almost a man high. This area is actually very dangerous, because we don't know if we will suddenly meet each other's people in the grass.
I followed the old guy into the grass with the oil bottle and the captain, and after entering the grass, the old guy obviously slowed down his speed, this kind of place has a very poor vision, and the direction is even more difficult to discern, because there is the same grass all around, even if you follow it, if you don't follow it, you may lose it. We walked cautiously through the grass, no one spoke, everyone looked in different directions, and it was actually tiring to be on guard here, because a small gust of wind blew, and the grass swayed everywhere, and staring at it for a while would make people feel dazzled.
Suddenly, Jugovic raised his hand to signal us to stop, and slowly crouched down. We immediately pointed our guns at our guarded lines. About a minute later, there was movement from our direction of eleven o'clock. Yugovic signaled us not to act rashly.
I feel very oppressive in this environment, and the tall grass around me makes it feel like there is little space. The point is that I can't see anything where the movement is coming from, and there is always an urge to know what the hell is there, and this urge makes me always unconsciously hook my fingers and want to go there.
After about two minutes, the grass began to move at eleven o'clock, and then a figure appeared in the grass. The man was dressed in camouflage, with a gun, a beard, and a hat, and pushed through the grass from about ten meters of us in the direction of our two o'clock. This man was followed by other people, five people in all, and they walked past us one by one, and they whispered a few words in the process, and I could not understand what they were saying.
Soon the men disappeared into the grass at two o'clock, and after waiting for about three minutes, Yugovic slowly got up and motioned for everyone to move on. After ten minutes of walking, we came to the edge of this meadow. Further out is the mountainside of the opposite mountain, and the rounding of the mountainside should be the place the doctor said.
Yugovic looked around first, and after making sure that nothing was wrong, he came up to me and whispered: "There is also the Kosovo Defense Corps here." ”
"Defend the regiment?" I didn't have a good idea of the names of these messy armed groups, so I looked at Yugovich and asked, "Who is it?" Militia or what? ”
Yugovic smiled bitterly and said: "The Kosovo Liberation Army." Both the Albanian National Liberation Army (ALLA) and the Kosovo Defence Corps (KDP) were formerly members of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Now disbanded, some of them went to Macedonia, and the others that remained formed the Guard Corps. They are not considered militia anymore, they basically belong
Kosovo's official armed groups, though I hate to admit it, are exactly that. ”
"How do you know they're from the Guards, and you know those guys?" I asked curiously.
Yugovich looked at me, patted his arm and said, "Armband." their armbands. It was a map of Kosovo, the Corps'. ”
I nodded in understanding, looked around and said, "That means that we are likely to face more than the six hundred people that the prisoner said earlier. According to you, the defense regiment is still a local armed force, and there should be more people. ”
Yugovic shook his head, "If you are in a hurry, there must be a lot, but those who participate in the war may not be." Sometimes when a family is separated, it is no longer a family. ”
I don't understand what Yugovic means, but I don't have time to discuss the relationship between these forces right now. I waved my hand and said, "Whoever they are, we're here anyway." And I don't think they're all here, unless Petkovic and Ivanovic have already been routed here. ”
Yugovic nodded, "They shouldn't be that fast." If I had been here, it wouldn't be so quiet now. It is even more unlikely that there will still be people patrolling around. The members of the Defend Regiment must have just arrived. ”
"Let's go and have a look. It's better to do it before everyone is due. I said and looked over the hill.
Yugovic looked around, and was the first to leave the grass and head towards the mountainside, followed by the two men he had brought with him, and then us. After everyone arrived, Yugovich continued to lead the way, and quickly walked around the mountain. After walking for about twenty minutes, Yugovic stopped again, because the opposing sentry appeared not far ahead. Behind the sentries were more and more people, busy digging foxholes and building fortifications. It was a relatively flat passage between several hills, which went around the hill we were on, and continued out of the hills as far as the eye could see.
"Are they going to make a big deal here?" I asked in a low voice.
Yugovic's face was ugly, "It must be so." He said, looking to the other end of the mountain road, "Presumably to drive our men into the area between the hills and fight a war of annihilation here." You see, as long as the exit is blocked and occupies the mountainside positions on both sides, then the people who come in will hardly have nowhere to hide, and they will not even have a chance to run back to the grass behind us. ”
I looked in the direction that Yugovic was pointing, and the actual situation was similar to what he said, and now the fat and thin two must have been running away with their tails between their legs, and they would not know and have no time to think that the other party had opened their pockets and waited for them.
"Shall we determine the location of Kostic first?" I asked.
Yugovic pointed in the direction where gunshots were heard from time to time, "No need. It's not far off. I'll contact Kostic after the fight. Let him stabilize the team and hold back the enemy in front of him from moving. What do you think of the fact that our men come up and take down this area where these men are building fortifications? ”
I nodded and said, "I'm here to fight." If you want to say that I won't do it to repel those 600 people, but here in front of me, that is, 50 or 60 people, I am still sure. ”
Yugovic nodded and motioned for his two men to go back the way they came, bringing the team up as soon as possible. The two men immediately turned and left. I looked at the sentry, the sentry's armband, "These are the Guards?" ”
Yugovic nodded, "That's right. It's the Defend Corps. Don't underestimate them. Most of them have experienced battles, much better than the men led by Kostic, no worse than Petkovic's men, and some of them are even much better. ”
About half an hour later, there was movement from our rear, it was Yugovich's men. The two men came to us with Milk and said, "It's not good to hide too many people here, and the team has been assembled by the meadow." ”
Yugovich and I gave Milk a rough idea of what was going on here, and Milk, after listening to it, agreed with us to attack the place, and after discussing it, Milk began to lay out
Set the task.
"Uncle, you take someone to lurk on this side. The attack was up to me. After attacking, you and your men continue deep into the flanks of the other side along the woods on this side, attacking them from the flanks and preventing them from occupying the high ground of the hill at our feet to stop us. Gypsies, you take people to the opposite hill, and after the attack is launched, you lead people to fight from above. Milk said as he pointed to the hill opposite, "But you'll have to get around the back so you don't get discovered." ”
I looked in the direction he was pointing, and that was where the patrolmen we had met across the meadow were heading. I nodded, "But you might run into patrols." That's when I'm going to do it. ”
"It doesn't matter. As long as you don't get seen by the people here. Now this is the battlefield, the gunfire is constant, and no one cares too much. By the time they did react, I would have attacked. Milk said.
I nodded and looked at Yugovich, "So we're going to do that?" ”
"That's it. Get ready to act. Take it here, contact Kostic and talk about the rest. ”
