Chapter 190: The Kingdom of the Buddha (2)
Coming all the way from the Buddha countries such as Tuoli and Wuchang in Northern Tianzhu, Duo'er and I have a little disappointment in this place where the Buddha of Compassion was born.
The kingdom of the Buddha has obviously declined, and the royal city, which was once full of incense, was already empty when we passed there.
Only a wooden carved Buddha statue more than three feet high is still standing in the wind and rain, telling the world about the past and present life of this land.
The country's rising Brahmanical sect has the potential to replace Buddhism.
The beautiful and rich Dali Luo River, where the granary of the Buddha Kingdom is located, is now the world of this sect.
Although some of the mountain tribes of Wuchang still have Buddhism, they have gone mad and deviated from the right path.
The people of the family practiced and passed away, no one engaged in agriculture and commerce, and this life was like grass mustard, and there was no solemnity and majesty of Buddhism at all.
If you compare the two, although both schools believe in karma and the practice of compassion, I think Brahmanism seems to be superior.
No matter how penanced you are, in this life, you must at least have clothes, food, and a room, and you must have a large number of good men and women who are able to give alms and worship Buddhism.
Therefore, the Brahmanical sect divides the world into four classes: Brahmins, who are dedicated to propagating teachings and serving the gods, Kshatriyas, who are responsible for guarding the territory against foreign invasions, Vaishyas, who are responsible for farming, trading, and labor, and Shudras, who are slaves like ascetics.
After such a division of labor, there will be people who will do all the mundane things in the world, and they will be willing.
This is because according to Brahmanical teachings, engaging in any mundane karma is a practice, it is a cause and effect.
To be a farmer in this life is the life of a farmer, to be a slave is to be a slave, and to be a priest and a noble brahmin is the life of riches.
"Dol, the compassionate Buddha has gone to the East! Your pilgrimage to the Buddha doesn't seem to come to fruition! ”
Looking at some dilapidated temples and stupas on the way, I was very sad to say to Duo'er.
It is hard to imagine that the Buddhist scriptures that are widely praised in Khotan and the Han land of the East were the first to come out of these ruined temples and then spread all over the world.
I can't help but worry about Master Fa Xian and his entourage, who are sitting and living in peace in the summer of Ziheguo, this Tianzhu Sacred Domain Buddha has long been gone, how can he retrieve the Vinaya Sutra that is missing in the Eastern Land?
And all the worries and disappointments came to naught the moment the caravan entered the Jiandra Buddha Kingdom in Zhongtianzhu.
From Xinshatou Gudu to Fulou Shawang City in the southeast, there is a reddish-brown official road that connects end to end.
On both sides of the official road, the ancient trees are in full bloom, and the four fields are filled with all kinds of intoxicating aromas.
There are no criss-crossing fields like the Eastern Tuhan Land, but there are rice and millet grains everywhere that no one has harvested.
The old ears have not yet been harvested by the farmers, and the new ears have grown from the original branches.
These are all life-saving food! It seems to us that such a waste is a pity.
"Uncle Su, the reputation of this Jiandra Xiangguo is really well deserved! Smell everywhere! Big brother, smell it, the soil here is also fragrant! ”
Duo'er led her Wusun green horse, and she had already sunk into this boundless sea of incense.
I inadvertently leaned over and picked up the clods of dirt on the side of the road and sniffed them a few times, and couldn't help but cheer at us.
"Miss! Sandalwood, pepper, and clumsy bello, which are treasured in our northern and eastern regions, are everywhere here! For thousands of years, no one has picked it up and melted it into the soil! Hehe! ”
Uncle Su took the mud block handed by Duo'er and smiled happily.
"This clod of soil is made of spices, so it is red, and it has the smell of incense!"
Miss Tian Lu and I seem to have improved our poison cup disease, and it only recurs every two or three days, and the whole person is much more energetic.
As we lamented the spiced earth, the woman had climbed like a monkey to a towering tree on the side of the road
Ancient trees.
He cut down many branches with a scimitar at his waist, and then playfully inserted one in front of each man's saddle.
This small Xiongnu scimitar was a gift from her grandfather to Duo'er back then, and she gave it to Miss Tianlu.
The friendship between the two women today can also be seen from this.
"Humble Belo Xiang!"
Tian Lu smiled like a flower, and shouted happily to everyone in the not-so-proficient Chinese language.
But when we smell the smell, we know that this is what the people of the North and the East call benzoin, and it is very strange to see its true face for the first time today.
Except for some simple pronunciations such as "Shao Lord, Duo'er" and the like, Tian Lu's language has not made much progress.
The communication between him and everyone can only be completed by relying on Duo'er, a translator.
After a while, the two got back on the horse and chatted a lot in Tianzhu Sanskrit.
"Brother, Tian Lu said that benzoin is extracted from the gum of this humble Belo tree, which has the effect of calming the nerves and dispelling evil spirits, and the poison of the Forgetful Worry Cup that you two suffer from can also be slightly dispelled by this incense."
After listening to Duo'er's words, my poison cup seemed to be about to commit again, and my head began to ache sharply, so I hurriedly beat my horse and went to the front.
Talking to Uncle Su about Buddhism and the Dharma may delay this hellish suffering.
At this moment, a group of idols passing through the forest blocked the caravan's path.
Led by a giant male elephant, dozens of Tianzhu statues of different heights and heights met us.
The mounted mount that stepped down had already seen the giant elephant battle formation of the Anandu priests on the Daliluo River, and now they were no longer so flustered.
But we, the riders on horseback, held our breath and pulled back to make way
The elephants looked at us as nothing, all of them looked serene, and the formation was not chaotic at all.
The male elephant paused for a moment as he passed by me, and tapped his big fan-like ears a few times.
As if to say hello, I kicked the ground and raised my head twice, and then said goodbye.
The herd slowly disappeared into the forest behind us, while our horse team continued to move forward.
At night, the caravan camped under the linden tree on the roadside, drank water from the roadside stream, picked fruits, vegetables, and rice from the four fields to satisfy their hunger, and then dreamless all night until dawn.
With such a scorching heat and humid atmosphere, everyone feels very strange that they can sleep so soundly at night.
Since entering the North Tianzhu, the caravan has suffered from mosquitoes and flies all the way.
But when I arrived in the country of Jiandra Buddha, these hateful creatures disappeared as if they were gone, which was really a happy thing!
The spices in the world have the effect of repelling insects, and Buddha incense such as sandalwood and clumsy bello incense have the effect of calming and hypnotizing.
The three realms of the wilderness where we sleep are surrounded by herbs, so it is reasonable that there are few mosquitoes and flies and sleep peacelessly.
The daylight caravan continued on its way, encountering a lake on the way.
But see the big lake around the kapok towering Bodhi like a cover, there is a meditation ancient temple hidden in it.
This is also the first Buddhist temple we have encountered since we entered the country of Jianda Buddha.
The men of my caravan are all from the east and the north, and they belong to a rare group of people in this Tianzhu Buddha country.
Therefore, after receiving the silk and gold coins from Doer, the abbot of the temple personally received us and led the group to visit the whole temple.
There are shrines dedicated to the stone carvings of the Buddhas, young monks carving the Bayeux Sutra, and many devotees meditating under the Bodhi tree.
To our amazement, the Buddhas here are almost identical to our Zanmo Monastery in Khotan, as well as the Buddha and King Kong enshrined in the Thousand Buddha Caves in Dunhuang County, Hexi.
Although they are separated by thousands of mountains and rivers, there is no doubt that the Dharma between the two places originates from the same source.
The morning service in the temple has been completed, and the fire-headed monks have brought the lunch fast.
But see the whole temple up and down
The old and young monks, without pottery bowls and chopsticks, each held a piece of plantain green leaves and lined up in a long line to pass the food bucket in front of them to receive their food for the whole day.
Then they scattered in all directions, and sat under the thick shade in front and back of the main hall, and tasted silently with their hands as a spoon.
As the benefactor of the monastery today and the distinguished guests of the presiding monks, we had the privilege of having lunch with all the monks.
Rice is made from a mixture of local brown rice, fruits and vegetables, without any meat or smell, and is served with a small amount of spices and salt.
The only discomfort is eating with your hands.
Fortunately, the food is not hot, otherwise for those of us who are used to using dishes and sharp knives, there is really nowhere to start.
"Uncle Su, this temple is really big! There are more than 200 monks! We are in the Zanmo Monastery in the royal city of Khotan, including the monks of Youfang, there are only more than 100 people all year round! ”
In the afternoon, the caravan left the temple and continued on its way, and Duo'er saluted reverently in the direction of the ancient temple on his horse.
"Miss, the ancient temple just now in Tianzhu Buddha Kingdom can only be regarded as a small temple! Like the Palenfu Temple in the Capricorn Buddha Kingdom, and the Dreadnought Mountain Temple in Sinhala, it is said that there are thousands of monks in each family! ”
In the entire caravan, no one knew the Tianzhu Buddha Kingdom better than Uncle Su.
So when it comes to the famous mountains and ancient temples here, he is also like a few treasures.
"Uncle Su, what do you think of this? After the caravan's deal at Fulousha is completed, you will take the caravan north to return to Khotan, and I want to stay here for a pilgrimage! In addition to the royal city of Sawei and the Buddha's homeland, Kapilavi, Duo'er also wants to visit the Dreadnought Mountain Temple, Balenfu Temple! ”
Duo'er was originally a devout Buddhist, and this trip to Tianzhu was a pilgrimage for his mother, Mrs. Khotan, so he made this untimely suggestion to Uncle Su.
As for Uncle Suder, as mentioned earlier, he is a descendant of the Cypriots who live in the country of Wusun, and since he was a child, he has believed in the fire Zoroastrianism of Persia like the eldest brother of Langton.
He was not interested in the affairs of Buddhism, and in this life he only focused on the business of the caravan.
So after listening to Duo'er's words, Uncle Su was very unhappy, and his originally kind smiling face suddenly became gloomy.
"Don't mess around, Miss! Leave one of your daughter's families in this Tianzhu, how can Lao Sue give an errand to the old lady after returning to Khotan? ”
"Sister Arita Lu accompanies me, why don't you let my eldest brother stay too! If you are still not at ease, Qin Chong and Sha Mihan can also walk with me! ”
Duo'er's rare stubborn way seems to be deliberately angry with Uncle Su.
"You girl! Why don't you say let the entire caravan stay and accompany you to visit the flower world of this Tianzhu Buddha country! Hahaha! ”
Uncle Su laughed, and no longer entangled with Duo'er and went to the front.
"Brother, why does Uncle Su keep guarding against me? I, a big living person, will I get lost in this Buddha country? ”
Seeing Uncle Su throw his hand away, Duo'er asked me angrily.
"Of course, the eldest brother knows that you are a heroine, fearless and indomitable, enough to go through the world alone! But Uncle Su has never seen it, no matter what others say, in his eyes, you are a weak woman who needs protection, just like Miss Tianlu. Don't be willful, this will hurt Uncle Su's hard work! ”
Uncle Su has always treated our brothers and sisters like a loving father, and Duo'er has always been enthusiastic and conceited, taking pleasure in taking care of others, and hating others to look down on her the most.
Once the two of them are on the bar, it will definitely hurt the harmony in the team, so I hurriedly appeased Duo'er.
"That's pretty much it, hehe. Big brother, my caravan is going to stay in Fulousha for a while anyway. After you got there, you were doing business, and I went to worship the Buddha and asked, let's not delay, what do you think, big brother? ”
"Alright! When I arrived in Fulousha, I came to convince Uncle Su! ”
I readily agreed, and I was very sad, my little sister worshiped the Buddha wholeheartedly, and had forgotten about me, a patient who was riddled with poison.
