A former member of the secret service group who came to Hankow, a man named Wang Zhigu, a former subordinate of Xu Enzuo (the third traitor to the military command to be captured by Pu Su), came to Hankow to visit his uncle Wang Shixiang, who happened to be Chang Kaishen's chief of guard, and who was notorious for the execution of a prominent leftist figure in December 1931.
Wang Zhigu happened to meet Xu Enzuo in the French Concession in Hankou, and learned directly from the former leader about the anti-Japanese activities of the China Yunian Salvation Association. Some of the others Xu recruited at the Shanghai refugee camp were divided into two groups. Twenty were engaged in military work, 25 were nursing wounded soldiers from the First Military Hospital, and 10 were in the latter group
Sand undertook the "Special Spider Mission", and two of them eventually quit the group.
The remaining 13 men were notified on April 25, 1938, that they would form an urban guerrilla force to "suppress the traitors" in Shanghai. According to the confessions of the three people, this was a point of contact between the assassination team and the military commander Dali, and Wang Zhigu's confession was recorded as follows: "Dali, the head of the Hankow Secret Service, talked with Xu Enzo and 12 other people and told us that we were going to Shanghai on a secret mission. All orders come from Xu Enzo, and we have to obey him absolutely. ”
After Wang Zhigu joined, this group was divided into several groups of 3-4 people, passing through Jiujiang, Nanchang, and Jin
Huamian arrived in Ningbo. On May 1, the two teams sailed to Shanghai, and Xu Enzo went to Shanghai with the other two groups on May 2.
At first, the death squad had fairly strict security measures in place. Every two weeks, the groups moved to the Fufu office, and tried to make every effort to keep the expenditure from not exceeding the monthly allowance of $30 per person. Hsu regularly meets with the team leaders in parks and other public places to discuss action plans. The guns and grenades were hidden in one place, in the attic of the jewelry store that Xu had previously owned.
The day before the operation, the ammunition was distributed by courier. Between June 10 and July 22, the death squad carried out four missions, two of which were successful, and also dropped bombs in a public place on the anniversary of the Lugou Bridge Incident, causing a huge public uproar.
When they first arrived in Shanghai, each of the four groups had their own passage within the French Concession, so that they could escape into the Public Concession or the Chinese Concession when necessary. The first group, consisting of Wang Zigu and three others, rented a room in an apartment on Fujian Road and moved to another apartment on Huacheng Road five days later (May 8). One of them slipped away during the relocation and never appeared again, so Xu Enzuo transferred Zhou Shougang from the second group to replace him.
At this time, Zhao Guangyi, a former comrade and current superior of Xu Enzuo's Youth Salvation Association, came to Shanghai from Hankou, and the two leaders moved to the ground floor of a western-style house at the corner of Luban Road. Zhao Guangyi managed two teams in Shanghai: one was the intelligence team, whose members were unknown to Xu Enzuo and his men; The other is the action team, that is, the assassination team, headed by Xu Enzo.
Zhao Guangyi may have been trained in a special agent training class in Daley, and unlike Xu Enzo, he has a more professional agent quality. Now it's up to him to decide who to assassinate and just selectively pass on the information he must know to Xu Enzo.
On June 6, 1938, Xu Enzuo received an order from Zhao Guangyi to assassinate Li Jusun, a member of the executive committee of the Shanghai Citizens' Association. Over the next three days, Hsu brought a revolver and a Browning automatic pistol to three members of Team 1 living on Huacheng Road, as well as a photograph of the assassin and the license plate number of his car, and visited the Sassoon Building on the Bund, which Li Jusun was going to every morning.
The assassination is scheduled for June 10. At eight o'clock in the morning, Xu Enzuo, who was staying in front of the Huizhong Hotel at the corner of the Bund and Nanjing Road, heard the gunshots and quickly left the scene. In the afternoon, he met Wang Zhigu, who was watching the wind for the other two gunmen in the morning, so he learned that his subordinates had wounded Li Jusun and killed his White Russian edging, but one of the gunmen was killed on the spot, and Zhou Shougang ran away and never came back (afterwards, Zhou Shougang ran back to his hometown in Jiangxi and later returned to Shanghai).
So, the first group was finished, and Wang Zhigu moved to the second group.
Then the second group of Jiang Haidong, Wang Zhigu, and another team member lived in three different places in the French Concession. Frightened by Zhou's arrest, they moved again on June 11 and settled at Dahua Apartment at 17 Pubai Road. Wang Zhigu's confession claimed that because he didn't trust his new partner, he stayed in another room at the Majestic Hotel at No. 47 Pubai Road. He shared a room with his girlfriend, Gu Ah Zhen, who introduced him to his mother, who was a hotel maid.
In early June, Zhao Guangyi told Xu Enzuo that Zhang Xiaolin, the leader of the Green Gang, was suspected of being a traitor, and the team was sent to investigate his activities. The reorganized crew sneaked into an attic in the alley opposite Zhang Xiaolin's mansion on Huagegao Road. However, their whereabouts were soon discovered by the son of the alley groomer, so they had to abandon the operation.
On 17 June, Zhao Guangyi passed on information to Xu Enzuo about the traitorous activities of lawyer Wu Zongyu. This person has an office in the Tai Wo Building on Lloyd's Road. Hsu ordered a second team to scout the building to decide if action could be taken.
After Jiang Haidong and Wang Zhigu conducted an investigation, they reported to Xu Enzuo that they thought that they could carry out the assassination. On the evening of June 21, Xu sent his messenger, Miss Zhou, with two pistols hidden in a sock box, from the Asian American Watch Store to a member of the second group at the corner of Minti Niyin Road. He wears a white handkerchief around his wrist as a mark.
The next day, Xu told the three of them that they had to complete the task within three days. They did so on June 24, but they killed the wrong two legal staff, one dead and one wounded, while the collaborator remained unscathed.
Xu Enzo was furious at this, not only because they had completely killed the wrong target, but also because they had discarded their precious pistol. In his confession, he said, "I told them angrily that they were not fit for assassination, and that they could only do bomb throwing."
Sometime in the days that followed, Zhao Guangyi instructed Sun Yaxing to arrange a patriotic demonstration on July 7, the first anniversary of the Lugou Bridge Incident, armed with six grenades kept by the Asian American Watch Store and two wooden-handled grenades provided by Zhao Guangyi. It later turned out that for the gang to carry out this activity was a fatal decision.
Seeing this, Pu Su in the farm actually had some curiosity about how these guys could survive until now. He was able to catch them alive when he entered Huxi to fight drugs, loot, hoe and rape. It stands to reason that amateur patriotic youths like them will not survive at all. Highly trained agents, such as a large number of underground intelligence officers sent from the border districts, have been arrested and killed. It's safe to say that none of them will act like them, and planning a major move is child's play. And their superiors, those insiders, did not care, and were only responsible for giving orders and letting a few amateur subordinates make noise, and the success rate was secondary. Even if there is some movement, he will probably take credit for it, and he doesn't care about the life or death of his subordinates.
For example, they repeatedly appear in their materials, and the guy named Zhao Guangyi who gave them tasks completely used Xu Enzuo and other patriotic youths as human bombs. It's just that to a certain extent, his current "boss", Chen Gongshu, is the same, I'm afraid that in the eyes of the head of the Shanghai intelligence station, he is no different from Xu Enzo.
He took the material and continued to read it, the reason why this material was so meticulously made. On the one hand, it is the right way for political work cadres, and on the other hand, in fact, Xu Enzuo and they should have completely thought that they had reached the territory of the military command.
When they were arrested before, they thought so, and Pu Suna's series of actions were under the banner of guerrillas. Later, after they were brought back, they were kept in the dungeon, and the three of them were held in solitary confinement in three directions, with no chance to confess at all.
Now he was arrested as a traitor, and in order to clarify his identity, he inevitably confessed very thoroughly from beginning to end. And what was done in each period, the detailed dates and the people involved have names and surnames, and many of the people involved, because it is not necessary, so they are also ignored here.
Although the three guys are for the purpose of saving their lives, they are so thorough to confess. However, there is also a lot of useful information to be found in their actions.
For example, the style and principles of the National Government's Daley, the channels and means of recruiting personnel, the process and plan of the entire organization to plan actions, what goals it wants to achieve, and so on. Even, a lot of useful information can be revealed from the assassination targets they have formulated.
In the house, Yu Dabao had already gone to the cell with the political cadres to see these three guys. Pu Surang gave them some more treatment, they brought eggs, noodles and some fresh fruits and vegetables to them, and supplemented some vitamins, but it was not good if they had sepsis.
According to the materials, Xu Enzo considered the need for at least two bombardiers and a new messenger (Miss Zhou had already gone to Hangzhou after handing over the guns to the second group), so he dismissed the guards and began to accept unexamined people, which is a brave and unscrupulous approach for underground work.
The first person, Zhou Shougang, Xu Enzuo met in February 1938 during the Chinese Youth Salvation Association and the Special Service Team in Nanxiang and Longhua, this person was a printer from Chongming, and after being hunted down for assassination, he chose to return to his hometown directly because he was afraid and did not contact them.
Later, due to the poverty of his family, he had to return to Shanghai again, relying entirely on relatives to provide food and lodging. One day in late June, Zhou Shougang met Wang Zhigu and confided in him about his economic difficulties, saying that he was "really poor." After a moment of contemplation, Wang Zhigu said that he could get a job, as long as he could seriously participate in the assassination of the traitor. Zhou Shougang expressed his willingness to do so.
When Wang Zhigu took Xu Enzuo to his apartment at No. 13 Ningxing Road and asked Zhou Shougang again if he would be willing to participate in the assassination of the traitor, he repeated this oath.
On 3 July, Xu Enzo ordered him to move his apartment to No. 62 Huanlong Road, where he was tasked with acting as a messenger and liaising with the rest of the gang. As a result, Zhou Shougang became the only person who knew about Hsu's whereabouts, and it was up to him to pass on information to the rest of the group about his meeting with him, usually at seven or eight o'clock in the evening in a park near Huanlong Road.
The second member of the gang, Zhu Zhonghu and a former member of the special forces, was a clerk at the Changkang refugee shelter on Alabaster Road before he lost his job due to illness. After Zhou Shougang was immediately appointed as a messenger, it was he who easily brought the four grenades hidden in his apartment on Pope Road to another member of the enforcement team, Zhao Liang, on the evening of July 7, the day of the bombing incident.
However, the service paid a price, and Chow later identified five members of the task force for the police.
The third new member, 17-year-old Chen Kaiguang, graduated from primary school the previous year and has not been able to find a job since. For a period of time, the Valley of Kings lived with him in an alley on the Wagje Road, and was able to get close to him. Wang Zhigu invited him to join the China New Year's Salvation Association, and Chen Kaiguang agreed because of his patriotic enthusiasm, expressing his "willingness to help eliminate traitors." Wang Zhigu then told him that "in order to prove [his] loyalty to the matter," Chen Kaiguang would "carry out a mission on July 7, 1938, and Chen Kaiguang agreed to serve."
At 7 o'clock in the afternoon of July 6, Chen Kaiguang gathered with Wang Zhigu and Zhao Liang in a corner of Huanlong Road Park. The group began to discuss the bomb-dropping operation the following day. And this practice of members of one group meeting with members of another group has broken basic security rules.
That morning, a 12-year-old boy named Wang Qiming brought six grenades from the Asian American watch shop to Wang Zhigu, who lived at No. 47 Pope Road, and two of them were brought by Zhou Shougang to Li Qiwei in the fourth group. The remaining four, as we have already seen, were brought by Zhou Shougang to Zhao Liang in the third group.
Later in the afternoon, Wang Zhigu retrieved two other grenades from the boy's messenger, which he still carried when he met Chen and Zhao in the park. He gave one to the newly recruited Chen Kaiguang. Chen Kaiguang was taken to a park bench and introduced to Xu Enzuo.
Xu Enzo apparently decided to ignore the basic rules and accepted Chen Kaiguang as a new member as soon as they met. Xu Enzuo asked Chen Kaiguang if he would "throw the grenade correctly?" When the 17-year-old replied in the negative, Sun Yaxing showed him how to unscrew the screw cap, how to put the little finger in the loop, and how to drag out the needle when throwing.
