Chapter 644: Expansion Plan

"Your Majesty......"

Faced with Eder's words, Fereit was a little surprised.

Seeing Fereitt's expression, Eder knew that the Chief of Staff might be thinking crookedly. He didn't plan to equip an army of millions at once. During World War I, millions of people were mobilized into their armies in a matter of months. But the situation in that war was very different from that of World War II in the future.

First of all, there are more skills that need to be mastered, and a soldier only needs to know how to operate weapons and shoot in World War I, as well as basic tactical movements to go on the battlefield. Because there are fewer tactics in World War I, and you can basically learn while watching.

As for the future World War II, soldiers will need to master more skills. At the very least, you need to know the advantages and disadvantages of new weapons in order to have the right way to deal with them.

This is still the soldier who needs to master the least ability, and the officer needs to learn more. Taking ordinary infantry officers as an example, they need to at least know and use the coordination of infantry and artillery, infantry and tank, understand the actual situation on the battlefield, know how to face the enemy situation independently, have the ability to be independent, effectively grasp the situation of the soldiers, and be able to mobilize their emotions.

This is only the skills that front-line infantry officers need to master, as for officers of other technical arms, they need to learn more. As for senior officers, this brings us to the question of talent. Because there is no chance for you to make mistakes on the battlefield, every mistake will cause great damage to your subordinates. And senior officers have no capital to make mistakes, so this is also the reason why senior officers in the army are paid so highly.

On the battlefield, you don't have enough study time and tolerance for mistakes, unless you can tolerate the cost of learning with huge casualties. And Romania does not have so much capital for officers to squander, so the requirements for officers have always been very demanding.

Eder also knew this, so he explained to Fereitt. "My Chief of the General Staff, please rest assured, I do not have the idea of expanding the army to a million at once. And I want you to spend four to five years increasing the number of troops from the current 310,000 to more than 1 million. ”

It should be noted here that Eder is talking about the strength of the army, and the Romanian Navy currently has 100,000 men, except for the two marine brigades currently trained with 16,000 men, the rest are naval operations and logistics personnel. Among them, the number of naval combat personnel and naval aviation personnel has grown most rapidly, the former has grown from 7,548 at the end of World War I to more than 43,000 now, and the latter has grown from 474 to more than 8,000 now.

Moreover, with the further expansion of the navy, the number of its officers and men will continue to grow, and the marine units in particular will certainly become a new growth point for the navy.

And when Fereit heard Eder's explanation, he felt much better. Because if it's going to be expanded in four to five years, then there's enough preparation.

However, it immediately occurred to Fereit that the expansion of such an army could only be an act of war. So who will Romania fight at that time, the USSR in the east, Greece in the south, or Yugoslavia in the west?

Against the Soviet Union in the east, a million troops would not be of any use at all. As for Greece to the south or Yugoslavia to the west, Britain and France stand behind them, both of which are also thorns.

Fereitt's thoughts didn't last long, for Eder told him the answer.

"Regarding this military expansion, on the one hand, the domestic economic growth is sluggish, and I plan to develop the military industry. On the other hand, the situation in Europe is becoming more and more confusing, and we need to prepare for it sooner. ”

For Eder's words, Fereit couldn't help but have a thought in his heart. "Your Majesty, are you saying that there is a possibility that Europe will relapse into war?"

Faced with the speculation of his own chief of staff, Eder did not deny it. "Yes, you're right."

Seeing a somewhat startled Fereitt, Eder explained further. "What is fundamental to the maintenance of peace in Europe at the moment?"

Without waiting for Admiral Fereitt to answer, Eder gave his own answer.

"It was the Versailles system, which was aimed primarily at Germany, and whose biggest beneficiaries were Britain and France. And now, with the strength of Britain and France fading, our country and the Italian team are dissatisfied with this system. ”

Eder's words, Fereitt felt deeply. In the case of Romania, Romania, which had grown in strength since the First World War, had basically digested its newly occupied territory, and after the great increase in national strength, it became more and more dissatisfied with its position in the Versailles system. Although Britain and France also gave a lot of benefits in other aspects, in general, Romania's strength and status do not match at the moment. As the head of the military, Fereit also has a deep understanding.

And Eder didn't care what his chief of staff thought, continued. "This is not the most serious thing, but the more important thing is the hatred of the Treaty of Versailles in Germany, which is the biggest source of the disaster."

Eder's words surprised Fereitt. "No, Germany hasn't done anything out of the ordinary yet."

The words of his own chief of general staff, which drew a smile from Eder, gave the most critical question. "Then I ask you, how long has it been since Germany had not paid reparations?"

Fereit still knew about it. "From 1931 onwards, Germany ceased to pay reparations, citing economic problems."

"I have just received the news that the German Führer Hitler is no longer planning to pay this reparation."

Edel gives his latest information.

"It seems that the German side is not willing to continue to pay reparations."

Fereit knew the gravity of the problem at this time, and combined with the current German military cooperation in Romania, his intentions were already very obvious.

For this, he admired Eder's insight.

Eder didn't know that the Chief of the General Staff was looking up at him inwardly, and continued to ask. "What do you think about the expansion of the army?"

Back to the area he is most familiar with, Admiral Fereit said without hesitation. "This year, we will first complete the establishment of each division, and from next year onwards, we will complete the target tasks at the rate of adding 7 to 9 divisions every year."

True, Fereit intends to complete the reintegration of the divisions this year. Of course, this is also the confidence brought by Romania's economic development in recent years.

And for the expansion of the army in the future, Fereit also has his own ideas. He does not plan to use the previous practice of forming new troops. In the future, the expansion of the army will directly split the current divisions, one division into three divisions, and then re-replenish the troops and equipment to complete the expansion work.

The reason for this is that it is convenient and conducive to the expansion of the army, and the combat effectiveness of its troops will not be affected by excessive differences. Unfavorable factors led to a decline in the fighting of the Romanian army during the expansion.

However, the current environment in which Romania finds itself has ample time for slow expansion.

After a few more deliberations with Admiral Fereitt, Eder decided on the expansion of the army.

According to this expansion plan, Romania would complete the reorganization of all current army divisions in 1935. Then the army began to be expanded in 1936, of which in 1936 it was expanded to 2 motorized infantry divisions and 5 standard infantry divisions. In 1937, 1 armored division, 1 motorized infantry division, and 6 standard infantry divisions were expanded. In 1938, 2 armored divisions, 1 motorized infantry division, and 5 standard infantry divisions were formed. In 1939, 1 armored division, 2 motorized infantry divisions, and 6 infantry divisions were formed.

After the completion of the expansion, the Romanian Army will have 7 armored divisions (originally 3 armored divisions), 8 motorized infantry divisions (originally 2), 40 standard infantry divisions, and 3 mountain divisions (all original), with a strength of more than 1.1 million.

In response to such an expansion, the government allocated 5.12 billion lei. It can really be said that the cannon goes off with ten thousand taels of gold, which is more money spent on the expansion of the army alone.
