Chapter 21: Out of Danger?
I observed for a moment, and the other person did not move after leaning over, as if it had stopped. I think they used the position where I had just shot as a reference, and did not dare to act rashly when they got closer, for fear that I would aim at the place where they might appear in some dark corner.
I'm just going to be so consumed by the other party, and I don't have a problem with that. Procrastination is one thing I'm willing to do at the moment. I watched the movement around me and glanced at the car that had rushed off the road. The man who staggered out of the car had not yet stood up, perhaps fainted, or may have died. It suddenly occurred to me that the person in the other car pulled over and gave up the pursuit, as if it were as simple as rescuing the first car from time to time. I can't tell you the specific reason, I just think that if it were me who was chasing, would I give up so easily? Save your companions and stop together? Is this tantamount to admitting that this pursuit mission has failed? Could it be that there were any important people in the first car?
I thought as I took a closer look at the first car. There was no movement in the car at all, is there still a need to save it? I turned to look across from me, it was just as quiet, but I thought there should be the same people staring at me here or my area. I guess if there's any wind here, bullets will fly at me.
After about five minutes, something seemed to move in the first car. I immediately looked there and someone had opened the back door on the side of the first car and was trying to tow someone out of the car.
It seems that my estimate was right, and there should be someone in the back seat who they need and must rescue. Am I going to make trouble for them again? At least don't let them complete the rescue easily. But I gave up on the idea after a while, because another car came on the road.
The two cars were obviously much more vigilant, did not drive directly, and when they approached here, they turned off their lights and quickly pulled over.
I've got to go, I'm really leaving. At the moment, I even regret that I didn't leave sooner. I immediately looked back slightly, and the woods behind me were pitch black, and I didn't know where it led, and maybe I would soon be disoriented after walking in. But now I have to go there.
I turned around slowly, moving gently deeper into the woods. But after walking five or six meters, gunshots rang out across the road. Several bullets hit the tree next to me, and one cut straight in the shoulder. I immediately lay down and looked back. The person on the other side didn't shoot continuously, which made it impossible for me to determine the exact location of the person who fired the shot. But after the man fired, everyone else moved.
I can't stop, I have to keep walking. I lay on the ground and slowly began to crawl deeper into the woods. After climbing a tree for a short look, and after making sure there was nothing wrong, I picked up my pace, and after climbing about twenty or thirty meters, I got up and ran all the way.
But not long after he ran away, the bullet flew behind his buttocks. I glanced back, and the other man walked around from either side of my previous position. I didn't fight back, but chose to keep running, because I noticed that although the opponent was shooting at me, the accuracy was not high, which showed that they were actually just judging my position based on the movement, after all, it was pitch black and the line of sight was poor. And if I fight back, I'm definitely helping the other side to confirm my position.
I buried my head in the front, in fact, it was a very difficult thing to escape in the dark woods, not to mention always paying attention to whether there was anything in front of me, that is, the feet were deep and shallow, and from time to time there were branches or roots that stretched out and stumbled, not to mention that I was scratched, but I tripped many times. The men behind me were still shooting at the sound I was making, but luckily these people were getting farther and farther away from me, and their bullet accuracy was getting worse and worse. It seems that they are not determined to catch up with me, the terrain is unknown, and the poor line of sight bothers me even more.
After about ten minutes of stumbling and running, I noticed no more bullets flying behind me. I slowed down, touched a tree, adjusted my breathing, and looked behind me and to the sides. There was no movement, no one was chasing. I slowly sat down against the tree, I was out of breath, I had been inactive all this time, and it was a severe lack of exercise. Now I feel that my mouth is dry, and I don't want to breathe heavily, because taking a big breath will make people feel drier, as if the whole mouth and airway are going to dry out, but I can't breathe too much, because then I will feel like I can't breathe and don't have enough oxygen.
Damn it... I used to run away, at least remember to carry some water with me. This time, I didn't even bring out the water, and I guess it was a gun and a few bullets left.
After a break of about five minutes, I looked around and I had no idea where this was. At the moment, I think it's a problem for me to go back the way I came. Because there is nothing to refer to here, let alone any road. And just as I was looking up to see if there was a moon or stars, a drop of water fell on my face, and then more and more and more and more densely. I forgot it was raining that day.
I looked around again, and maybe it didn't make much sense for me to keep running at the moment. I might as well squat here and wait, waiting until dawn, at least I can see up and down, left and right, and then make plans. I touched the phone in my pocket that Zhao Yi left me. Maybe I'll have to rely on Zhao Yi to contact Ivan and them then. Not now, though, I'll have to wait.
I continued to crouch down, paying attention to the movement around me. The rain became heavier and heavier, and for a moment I was cold, and then I was shivering with cold. It's only early spring, and it's a rainy day and it's the middle of the night and you're all soaked. It felt like the coldness was penetrating into the bones.
I held my gun and leaned against a tree. He just stared around with wide eyes until the sky was bright. I stood up after barely seeing my surroundings, and now if a person appeared in front of me, I guess he told me to be ready to shoot me in a few seconds, because my hands were cold and I didn't feel anything, and my whole body felt stiff.
I had a rough idea of where I was going and started walking back the way I came. I'm going to walk back to the road first and see how it goes before making a decision. After walking for about thirty or forty minutes, I vaguely saw the road. Because I was going off the rails, I noticed the sound of car engines coming from the direction of the road before I noticed that I had gone far away.
After returning to the road, it didn't take long for me to find the place where I had ambushed my pursuers. This time it wasn't because I knew the road, but because I saw the rescue van towing a car and leaving. I continued in the direction the ambulance came. After walking for about ten minutes, I saw the intersection where I had broken up with everyone.
I looked at it from a distance, and there was still a police car parked there, and there were a few cops preparing to leave. There weren't any bodies on the ground, so they must have been cleaned up, and I guess someone passing by called the police when they saw a car planted on the side of the road and didn't move.
I didn't lean over, but looked around the woods, and after making sure that there was nothing wrong, I took out Zhao Yi's mobile phone and dialed it.
"Brother. Something went wrong? Zhao Yi's voice came after the phone rang twice.
"Hmm. They found us last night. But now we're out of danger. I'm going to ask you to help me get in touch with Ivan now. I'm alone on a highway now, and I don't even know what it's called. Only Ivan they know where it is. I whispered.
"Separated?"
"It can't be considered a separation. I left it myself to cover their departure. But now I don't have anything but a gun, some bullets, and this phone. I said.
"Understood. I immediately contacted Yevgen, and he was able to find a way to contact Ivan. Zhao Yi said.
"Hmm. Be cautious and discreet. It's better for Ivan to call me on this number. I said.
