Army equipment is to meet the needs of war, but the ever-changing battlefield forms have different performance requirements for equipment. In this regard, the Equipment Bureau has always put the versatility and ease of production of armored vehicles in the first place in the design and selection of equipment in the face of the various performance requirements for armored vehicles put forward by front-line commanders.

Since the inception of the Panzer Forces, the Imperial Army has maintained the tradition of being armed with only two types of battle tanks, and all self-propelled guns and tracked armored vehicles have been developed on the basis of the chassis of the finalized mass-produced tank, which has also greatly simplified production and reduced the pressure on logistics.

As a "35-ton medium tank project" that began to be developed before the war, the weight of the Type 04 "Cheetah" medium tank at the time of finalization had exceeded 40 tons, which made the maneuverability of this type of tank barely meet the minimum performance requirements of 50 kilometers on road and 38 kilometers off-road required by the Army Armament Department.

The requirements of the Army Equipment Bureau for tank mobility limit the engine power-to-weight ratio of each type of tank to 15 or more. This is a very strict standard, which means that if a tank weighing 50 tons can pass the final review by the Army Armament Department, it needs to be equipped with at least one engine with a power of more than 900 horsepower, and with the requirements for reliability, this power requirement may be increased to more than 950 horsepower.

At the current state of the art, this is a very difficult standard to meet.

To some extent, the Army's requirements for the engine performance and volume of armored vehicles are even stricter than those of the Air Force. On the other hand, a diesel engine with the same displacement is always much less powerful than a gasoline engine, but it has the advantage of being smaller and torqueous much more than a gasoline engine.

Jinyang Heavy Machinery Company and Jiangxia Ordnance Manufacturing Company once proposed to replace the 620-horsepower diesel engine currently equipped with the Cheetah tank with an aero engine with a power of 900 horsepower, but they were directly rejected by the Army Equipment Bureau.

In terms of tank power, the Army Armament Bureau has always adhered to the principle of using diesel engines, and it is impossible to make changes easily.

Otherwise, the entire logistics supply will have to be chaotic.
