Chapter Ninety-One: Death Pledge
Joseph Rochefort, a craftsman who did his job, started as an apprentice and struggled for more than 30 years to finally own his own optical shop.
However, after decades of hard work and overnight back before liberation, his shop was ransacked by damned robbers.
The Western District Sheriff's Office, where Joseph's family of four, complains to the West District Sheriff about the robbers' atrocities.
The tearful narration of the family touched the sheriff.
The sheriff asked them to wait in the security hall, and he personally led people to the scene to investigate.
An hour later, the sheriff returned with the team, and Joseph's family waited at the door of the sheriff's hall, hoping to get good news.
However, the attitude of the sheriff changed dramatically, and Joseph commanded his men:
"You guys, take this old man away."
"I'm here to report the crime, sir!"
Old Joseph was terrified and overwhelmed, and the sheriff's men were unmoved, and dragged the old man away in three or two blows.
Joseph's family wanted to appeal for him, but before he could speak, he was frightened back by the vicious security officer.
The sheriff, who walked a few hundred meters with Joseph and his face was pale, said angrily:
"Damn it, it's disgusting that you've caused so much trouble and still come to trouble me!"
Joseph was at a loss, he was in his heart, constantly complaining to God, but he was overwhelmed by what the sheriff said.
He does business reasonably and legally, pays taxes in a proper manner, and usually acts very cautiously, how can he get into big trouble.
Just as he was wondering what he had done wrong, the sheriff's voice rang out again.
"Wait a while, you confess your sins honestly, and you are not allowed to quibble.
If you dare to say a single word, it will affect me, and I promise that your wife and two sons will not live to tomorrow. ”
Joseph stopped, opened his mouth wide, and in the end he could not say anything, and was pushed on.
Back at the optician, he meets the robber from last night, and the sheriff keeps smiling at the robber.
Except for the word unlucky, Joseph had no thoughts in his heart at this time.
Then the sheriff led the men away, and he was taken over by the robbers of the previous night and forced to go east.
The robbers led him through the city, and finally came to the square in front of the temple, where soldiers with halberds were patrolling.
At this moment, Joseph saw hope, and he wanted to cry out for help, but instead thought of the words of the sheriff.
The damned sheriff and this gang of robbers must have made some shady deal.
With his wife and two sons still in the hands of others, Joseph gritted his teeth and swallowed the words for help back into his stomach.
However, the next moment, his thoughts were subverted again, and the soldiers in the square in front of the palace actually greeted the robbers familiarly.
And that's not all, the robbers actually took him into the Palace of Curtea, which is the residence of the Grand Duke!
Joseph, who was not possessed by his soul, finally believed the words of the sheriff, and he really got into great trouble.
The huge psychological blow made him mentally trance, like a walking corpse, dragged forward by the 'robbers'.
Of course, he had realized that it was not the robbers who robbed him, but the men of some big man.
In his mind, he quickly reviewed more than fifty years of his life, and finally remembered that twelve years ago, he seemed to have said a bad word about Vlad II.
Old Joseph, who was frightened silly, thought that he had found the reason for the matter, and was already in his heart, sent himself to the gallows.
Before he knew it, he was taken to a long corridor, and the 'bandit leader' beside him greeted a man who looked like a waiter.
The latter knocked on two milky wooden doors, and then said in a debriefing tone:
"My lord, the person you want has brought it."
What the!? The big guy actually wants to see me!? Are you going to cut off my head with your own hands!?
In an instant, all kinds of thoughts flashed through old Joseph's mind.
The previous threats and frightes made his mind full of negative emotions, so all he thought of was bad things.
The desperate old Joseph has no desire to survive at all, and the process of waiting for death is far more difficult than death itself.
"Bring people in."
Looking at the broken lenses on the ground, Cepes was in a very unhappy mood, so the tone of his voice was very cold.
And this just confirmed the conjecture of Joseph Sr. that death was only one step away from him.
Of course, he will not be beheaded by Cepes, nor will he be sent to the gallows, and the most likely way to die is to be scared to death alive.
Trembling all over, he was ushered into the room, and all kinds of familiar tools, as well as broken lenses, appeared in front of his eyes.
Looking at the broken lenses, old Joseph felt a little distressed, these were all his hard-earned belongings.
But after thinking about it, people can't live, and they still need money to use it, and a self-deprecating smile appeared on his face.
Unfortunately, all this happened to be seen by Cepes.
"Are you laughing at me!?"
After a long day's hard work, he only got a fragment of land, and Cepes had already laughed at himself for it.
He can laugh at himself, but being ridiculed by a stranger is never allowed.
In the face of the young big man, old Joseph wanted to go out and have the courage to contradict a few words.
But then he thought of his wife and two sons, and finally he could only say obediently:
"I'm guilty! My lord, I am guilty! ”
"It's good to know that you are guilty, give you a chance to make meritorious contributions with guilt, the tools are here, hurry up and help me polish my lenses."
Tsepeš sat on a small sofa against the wall, crossed his legs, and ordered old Joseph to work.
"I have ......"
Joseph Sr. wanted to continue to confess his sins in exchange for the lives of his wife and son.
But he soon realized that he seemed to have a chance to live.
Of course, he didn't think that Tsepes, from the very beginning, did not want to kill him.
The robbers, the sheriffs, the attendants, all the details stacked together, and he was sure of that.
In order to survive, Joseph Sr. quickly got to work, rummaging through the boxes all over the floor, then took out a soft grinding wheel and replaced it with a grinder.
"Holy!"
Seeing this scene, Cepes couldn't help but burst out foul language, and the old Joseph, who was about to start polishing, suddenly froze.
Two people who are not on the same frequency will definitely have different understandings of the meaning of this foul language.
Tsepesh was just venting the depression in his heart, and old Joseph wanted to be crooked again.
Modal words, which he understood as verbs, gave him goosebumps all over his body due to some unbearable pictures.
The clay man still has three points of fire, and even if old Joseph is cowardly, he has an inviolable bottom line.
He swore to the death to obey the filthy demands.
The humble old Joseph, straightening up his spine, said with dignity: "No! ”
"Don't give face, I bought so many things from your house, help with some work, why can't it!"
Tsepesh, who was already in an extremely unhappy mood, was choked by this old man's anger, how could there be such an unreasonable person in this world.
