Chapter 57 Taierzhuang Anti-Japanese War

The War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out in full swing At that time, the Japanese army once said that they would destroy China within three months, and after eight years of arduous resistance against Japan, we won the war. At that time, after the Meiji Restoration, Japan was strong, the Japanese army was very fierce in the Chinese battlefield, and the weapons and equipment of the Chinese army were far inferior to the Japanese army, so at the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, China was defeated in several battles before and after, and the Chinese army could only be forced to defend.

After the Battle of Songhu, the Japanese army captured Nanjing, the political center of the national ** at that time, and created the horrific Nanjing Massacre, after Li Ming's revolutionary army counteroffensive achieved results, after this battle, in order to deal a heavy blow to the arrogance of the Japanese army, our army successfully blocked the Japanese army in Taierzhuang, and achieved a counterattack.

After the Japanese captured Nanjing and Jinan, in order to realize their plan to destroy China in three months, the Japanese command ordered the attack on Xuzhou. We all know that geographically, Xuzhou is located in the middle of Jinan and Nanjing, and if Xuzhou is lost, then the Japanese army will completely open up the entire north-south battlefield. At that time, Xuzhou was garrisoned by the Fifth War Zone, and its commander was the famous Li Zongren. The situation before the war was not optimistic, Han Fuqu passively avoided the enemy, retreated without a fight, Tai'an was lost, and the door of Xuzhou was wide open, for which Chiang Kai-shek was furious, and directly engaged Han Fuqu in military law, Han Fuqu was the deputy commander of the Fifth Theater at that time, and he was also the first senior Kuomintang general executed by Chiang Kai-shek.

The Japanese captured Tai'an, and then marched south to attack Xuzhou, Li Zongren hurriedly ordered Sun Lianzhong and Tang Enbo's troops to block the invading Japanese army, and the two sides engaged in a fierce battle near Taierzhuang. In March 1938, the well-equipped Japanese army stormed Taierzhuang under the cover of aircraft and tanks, and Sun Lianzhong's Second Army resisted desperately.

In April, Li Zongren gave the order for a general attack, and Tang Enbo's troops launched a fierce offensive against the enemy near Taierzhuang, and the Japanese army suffered heavy losses. Later, Li Zongren went to the front line to supervise the battle, and the blood in Taierzhuang flowed into a river, which was the first time that the Japanese army encountered such a fierce offensive since the invasion of China, and in the case of no follow-up support, the Japanese army was quickly defeated and fled in embarrassment, so far our army has achieved a complete victory in the battle of Taierzhuang. In this battle, the Japanese suffered more than 20,000 casualties. In recognition of the soldiers' military exploits, the national ** awarded Sun Lianzhong, Tang Enbo and others the Order of the Blue Sky and the White Sun.

On March 14, 1939, the 10th Division of the Japanese Army Isoya Ryosuke on the North Road of the Jinpu Line went south to storm Teng County, and fought with the 122nd Division of Wang Mingzhang of the Sichuan Army for three days and nights, and on the 17th, Teng County was lost, and the division commander Wang Mingzhang was martyred. On the 20th, the 10th Division of the Japanese Army occupied Yixian and immediately advanced to Taierzhuang.

On the right flank of the Jinpu line, the Japanese Itagaki Seishiro's 5th Division attacked Linyi from Weifang in early February 1938, and Li Zongren, commander of the 5th Theater, urgently transferred Zhang Zizhong's 59th Army to cooperate with Pang Bingxun's 40th Army, and achieved a great victory in Linyi on March 12. Subsequently, Zhang Pang's two armies fought many fierce battles with the Japanese army in the Linyi area, pinning down the Fifth Division for more than ten days, and smashing the Japanese army's operational plan that the 10th and 5th divisions would attack Taierzhuang.

On March 23, the 1st Division of the Japanese Army and the cavalry company of the 31st Division of Chifengcheng of the 2nd Group Army of Sun Lianzhong, the defending force of Taierzhuang, engaged near Kangzhuang north of Taierzhuang, and the Battle of Taierzhuang began. The next day, 2,000 Japanese troops stormed Taierzhuang with the cooperation of aircraft and artillery, broke through the north wall, and 200 people rushed into the village, and were completely annihilated by the Chinese defenders. On the 25th, the Chinese and Japanese armies fought a bloody battle at Liujiahu in the north of Taierzhuang. On the morning of the 27th, the Japanese army broke through the north gate of Taierzhuang and began a tug-of-war that lasted for many days. On the night of the 28th, the Japanese army stormed the northwest corner of Taierzhuang, and the west gate was in an emergency, and Kang Faru, deputy commander of the 31st Division, led a counterattack and fought with the Japanese army in the streets.

On the 30th, the 27th Division sent death squads to reinforce the northwest corner, engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese army, and repelled the Japanese attack. On April 3, the Japanese army occupied the southeast gate of Taierzhuang and threw tear gas bombs, killing and wounding seven or eight out of ten defenders, and three-quarters of the whole village fell into the hands of the enemy. At this critical juncture, Tang Enbo's 20th Army, which was fighting north of the central defense line of Taierzhuang, moved south from Zaozhuang, and on April 6, defeated the Sakamoto detachment from Linyi at Dige and Yanglou in the northeast of Taierzhuang, and joined forces with Sun Lianzhong's group army. The morale of the Chinese army was greatly boosted, and the Japanese army was shaken.

On the afternoon of the 6th, the Japanese army withdrew north from Taierzhuang, and the Chinese army counterattacked on all fronts. That night, all the remnants of the village were cleared. In the early morning of the 7th, the Chinese army launched a pursuit, and the Battle of Taierzhuang, which lasted for half a month, was victorious, destroying more than 10,000 Japanese troops. The victory in the Battle of Taierzhuang dealt a blow to the arrogance of the Japanese army, aroused the spirit of the military and people throughout the country, and thus enhanced China's international prestige.

In the fierce battle, which lasted one month, about 290,000 Chinese troops and about 50,000 Japanese troops participated in the battle. The Chinese suffered more than 50,000 casualties and more than 20,000 Japanese casualties (the Japanese army reported 11,984 casualties).
