There were many thieves in Yanping, and more than 100 thieves were arrested after his arrival; Cleaned up the backlog of cases, released prisoners, won reputation, was promoted to Huangzhou Tongzhi, and later promoted to Zhejiang according to the inspection of affairs, into Jiangxi according to the deputy envoy, and in charge of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces of study and politics. The crown prince went out of the cabinet (studying) and was promoted to the priest of the country. Later, he entered the Ministry of Rites, and was also a scholar of Wenyuan Pavilion, and participated in important events in the imperial court. He secretly exposed the crimes of the Marquis of Xianning, and was good at writing Qingzi (a style used to communicate with the gods, Emperor Jiajing believed in God) and was trusted by Emperor Jiajing. At this time, Yan Song was the first assistant in power, and he was in the court with Yan Song for more than ten years, and he was cautious; He is also good at catering to the emperor's will, so he can stay in power for a long time.

However, after Xu Jie's death, his family property was several times more than that of the traitor Yan Song, which is quite interesting.

Xu Jie replaced Yan Song as the first assistant. There are different opinions about the truth about Xu Jie's Zhishi, one said that because he had not discussed with Gao Gong and Guo Pu, the ministers of the same column in advance, the two held a grudge and instigated the imperial history to impeach, forcing Xu Jie's Zhishi to go home in the second year of Longqing (1568); As soon as he said that Mu Zong's behavior was absurd, Xu Jie often dissuaded him, so Mu Zong hated him very much. Xu Jie was also disappointed, so Shangshu asked for retirement. It happened that Zhang Qi was impeached because of a personal grudge (note: private grudge). So Muzon took the opportunity to allow him to retire and return home; In the pen of Mingyue that year, Xu Jie worked hard all his life, there was poverty, there was infinite scenery, he overthrew Yan Song, and there was a student Zhang Juzheng who had a bright future, and his wish for the country was fulfilled, so he took the initiative to resign.

Because he has been the prime minister for many years, he is a veteran of the two dynasties, and he is called "Xu Ge Lao". In the name of "contribution", a large number of land was annexed. In the third year of Longqing (1569), Hai Rui served as the governor of Yingtian, and was used by Xu Jie's political opponent Gao Gong to order the local tycoons to withdraw from the occupation of more land. He was almost killed and fled to another country.
