It was not until the fourth year of Emperor Wen of Wei that he returned to the Central Plains in the fourth year of the Huang dynasty (223), and Sun Gong, the Taishou Gong of Liaodong, personally saw him off. Since then, several generations of emperors of Cao Wei have recruited Guan Ning several times, but he has not responded to the order.

In the second year of Zhengshi (241), Guan Ning died at the age of eighty-four. He is the author of "On Surnames".
