Chapter 1161: An Important Turning Point

"Then send the Buddha to the West! I remember that after they were arrested, they were all held until now because they didn't want to join the secret service headquarters, which is admirable. ”

"This matter is easy to do, I will call Wang Ji'an, you go to meet them, each of them must write a letter of guarantee, willing to join the East Asian Institute of Political Economy. Then you write a handwritten application and indicate all the people you want to release. ”

"I took the letter of guarantee and the application to go to the head of the Gangcun section, and after he signed, Wang Ji'an could go through the formalities for release, the Japanese are now panicking, how can they be in the mood to deal with these people?" Chen Mingxiang said.

Power and relationships to a certain extent that often seem intractable problems are now nothing more than a matter of words.

Chen Mingxiang also gambled once, betting that Chen Gongshu is not a white-eyed wolf, and his efforts will definitely be able to receive rich rewards, of course, he is not afraid of this guy playing tricks, daring to play tricks with himself, and wanting to clean him up, it is the same thing.

The US army's attack on Guam, the largest island in the Mariana Islands, was far smoother than the attack on Saipan, the second largest island, and in fact the landing campaign was carried out at about the same time as the attack on Tinian, the third largest island in the archipelago.

Let's start with the Battle of Guam, which began on 21 July after 13 days of heavy shelling and bombardment, and seems to have been a positive response to Hideki Tojo's resignation.

The defenders of Guam in Japan were the 29th Army Infantry Division, the 48th Independent Mixed Brigade, the 10th Independent Mixed Wing, the 52nd Antiaircraft Artillery Brigade, and the 54th Naval Garrison, all of which were under the unified command of Lieutenant General Gao Pinbiao, commander of the 29th Division of the Japanese Army, and Lieutenant General Hidera Obata Hideyo, commander of the 31st Army, who also happened to be on Guam.

On 26 July, Major General Shigematsu, the commander of the 48th Mixed Brigade, was killed in battle, and on 28 July, Lieutenant General Takapinbiao was killed, and the battle continued until 10 August.

In this battle of Guam, the American troops themselves suffered 1,435 casualties and 5,848 wounded, while the Japanese suffered 18,560 casualties and 1,250 prisoners.

The battle of Tinian Island was smoother, with 4,500 naval officers and men led by Vice Admiral Kakuharu Tsunoda, commander of the 1st Air Fleet of the Japanese Navy, Keishi Ogata Osaka, Wing Commander of the 50th Wing of the 29th Division of the Japanese Army, and the 1st Brigade of the 135th Wing of the 43rd Division, about 4,000 men.

At dawn on 2 August, Ogata Keishi Daisa held a ceremony to burn the military flag, because the flag was personally awarded to the commander of the wing by the emperor at the Imperial Palace, and according to the regulations of the Japanese Army, when the situation was judged to be critical, the flag should be burned and should not fall into the hands of the enemy.

He then led the last 1,000 Japanese troops and the improvised island militia to launch a suicide attack on the American army, and Ogata was killed by American machine gun fire.

Vice Admiral Kakuharu Tsunoda, commander of the Navy's First Air Fleet, ran out of the trench of the headquarters, threw grenades at the US troops, killed several US troops, and left the last grenade to detonate himself, and the headquarters from the chief of staff to the staff committed suicide.

After the US military captured Tinian Island on 3 August, it began to renovate the barracks base that could accommodate 50,000 US troops, built an extended airfield runway, and mobilized 15,000 US Navy engineers to complete the work.

A total of six 2,400-meter airstrips were built on Tinian Island so that B-29 long-range heavy bombers could take off and land and begin to attack the Philippine Lubin, the Ryukyu Islands, and the Japanese mainland.

The Pacific War of World War II also underwent a major transformation, and Allied bombers were able to bomb important facilities on the Japanese mainland every day.

When Tiannian Island was captured, the third battle of Hengzhou was about to start, and if it could not be fought again this time, the impact would be too great, so on August 2, Lieutenant General Isamu Yokoyama took the chief of staff and staff officers to the outside of Hengzhou City to personally command.

Not only that, but in the face of serious attrition in the 68th Division and the 116th Division, in order to ensure that Hengzhou could be taken, he mobilized the troops of the 58th Division and the 13th Division to strengthen it, and also transferred the artillery units directly under the 11th Army.

On 4 August, the third battle began, and there was a small accident in it: during the first two attacks on Hengyang, the wing commander of the 116th Division, Hei Ichisa, Kurose Hei, was willing to use his troops to make a hopeless charge, resulting in a large number of casualties in the wing.

Some of the commanders of the wing's subordinate divisions have been replaced four times, but they have not provided any breakthrough for the wing's offensive, but his actions were considered by commander Isamu Yokoyama and commander of the 116th Division Iwanaga Wang to be highly motivated for combat, so they submitted a report to the base camp to promote him to the rank of major general, and the result was quickly approved.

Because at this time, there was no vacancy in the combat sequence of the 11th Army, and Heiichi Kurose, who was known as the general who sent him to death, continued to serve as the wing commander of the 13rd Infantry Wing with the rank of major general.

Major General Shima Genkichi, commander of the 57th Infantry Brigade of the 68th Division of the Japanese Army, was killed by a bullet from the defenders on 6 August while supervising the battle on the front line, so on the 15th, Major General Heiichi Kurose succeeded as the brigade commander of the 57th Infantry Brigade.

"What do you say? The Special Intelligence Division of the 11th Army Headquarters actually deciphered the military code of the Yamashiro government? Chen Mingxiang asked in surprise.

This is not the first time he has heard this name, when the Japanese army attacked Tanzhou for the second time, he learned about this organization from the mouth of Gangcun Shaozuo in Jiangxia, and also had a meal with the section chief Inoue Daisa, and through the information he obtained, he issued an early warning to the 74th Army that was surrounded at that time.

"Yes, on the 23rd of July, they issued strict operational orders to the 62nd, 79th, 37th, and 100th armies, requiring these troops to quickly break through the defense line of the imperial army and rescue the 10th Army in Hengzhou."

"It's a pity that these orders were cracked by the Special Intelligence Division, and the headquarters of the Eleventh Army not only informed the divisions and regiments, but also informed the General Headquarters of the Dispatch Army, and when I went to Jiangcheng for a meeting, the Chief of the General Staff said this."

"The headquarters of the 11th Army has responded to this, transferring the main forces of the 34th Division, the 27th Division, the 40th Division and the 3rd Division, setting up a blocking line on the offensive line, and this military operation to rescue Hengzhou will no longer work." Yoshitaro Kawamoto said with a smile.
