Chapter 64: Debate on Confucianism [Two in One]

"PS: Please take the trouble to vote for the recommendation~"

β€”β€”β€”β€” the following textβ€”β€”β€”β€”

"Dr. Hui."

At the behest of Mencius, his proud disciple "Wan Zhang" stepped in front of Hui Ang and bowed his hand and said, "I don't know that Doctor Hui is coming, and the disciples have not been able to pass through, so please don't blame Doctor Hui." ”

Hui Ang hurriedly replied: "Mr. is serious. When Hui entered the house, the master was telling the scriptures, and he shouldn't have disturbed him, but he was eavesdropping on the back seat, if you want to talk about it in detail, Hui is the rude person. ”

"What did Dr. Hui say?" Wan Zhang said with a smile.

For Hui An, Wan Zhang's impression is still very good, only from Hui An's entry into the mansion when he saw Mencius was teaching and quietly listened to the guests, without disturbing Mencius to tell the scriptures, which can be seen Hui An's character.

Not to mention that Wan Zhang was also familiar with Hui An, knowing that although the latter was not his Confucian disciple, he admired his teacher Mencius's "benevolent government" proposition, and tried his best to persuade the Song king to govern the Song state with benevolence, which was enough for Wan Zhang to have a high respect and closeness to Hui An.

After a few words of greeting, Wan Zhang's gaze shifted to Meng Zhong beside Hui An: "Doctor Hui, I don't know who this is?" ”

Hui Ang glanced around, and saw that many Confucian disciples were glaring at him angrily because of the sneer of his brother Meng Zhong, and he couldn't help but smile bitterly on his face, and he didn't know how to introduce Meng Zhong, so he hesitated for a while before saying, "This son...... My brother too. ”

As soon as the words fell, I heard Meng Zhong add indifferently beside him: "Taoist disciple, Meng Zhong!" ”

"I see......

Wan Zhang's heart was suddenly shocked.

Obviously, it was the words they had just attacked Taoist thought that made this Taoist disciple unhappy, so he made sarcastic remarks.

So he smiled and said, "Since you are the brother of Dr. Hui, please move with you." …… Dr. Hui, Master, please take a seat. ”

Meng Zhong tilted his head and glanced at Wan Zhang, where could he not hear the deep meaning of the latter's words: It's just for the sake of your brother Hui An's face.

It can be seen that Meng Zhongfang's sarcastic words about Confucianism made Wan Zhang, a proud disciple of Mencius, very unhappy, but he didn't show it in Hui An's face.

Under the guidance of Wan Zhang, Hui Ang and Meng Zhong came to the vicinity of Mencius.

At this time, I saw Hui Ang take the initiative to step forward and salute Mencius: "I haven't visited the master for a long time, Hui Ang is ashamed, I don't know if the master is okay?" ”

Mencius smiled and nodded.

Mencius still liked Hui An, an important minister of the Song State who advocated his idea of "benevolent government", and he also understood that Hui Ang was almost the only person who could influence the Song Dynasty at the moment, and if he wanted the Song State to implement his Meng Ke's "benevolent government" proposition, the key was Hui An.

By this time, Mencius's disciples had rearranged their seats: originally Mencius had several rows of longitudinal seats, located on the left and right in front of Mencius, but now, Mencius's left-hand side of the seats had been removed, leaving only one seat, apparently reserved for Hui'an.

As for Mencius's disciples, they are all sitting on Mencius's right hand at this moment.

"Dr. Hui, and Dr. Hui's brother, please be seated."

Another disciple of Mencius asked.

"This is making things difficult for my brother......

Seeing that there was only one seat in front of him, Hui Ang frowned slightly, and glanced at Mencius quietly, but saw that the latter closed his eyes and said nothing.

Immediately, he glanced at Meng Zhong again, saw that he had a slight sneer on his face, and his heart moved slightly, so he simply pretended that nothing had happened, and sat on the straw mat behind the case as if nothing had happened.

And just as he expected, Meng Zhong deliberately pretended to look around, and then shook his head and said with a smile: "Alas, Confucianism is clever and deceitful, and it keeps saying etiquette, but the guests don't even have a seat to sit. ”

As soon as he finished speaking, he heard a disciple of Mencius in the seat opposite him joke: "Why is there no seat?" You're the brother of Dr. Hui, so why don't you sit at the same table with your brother? ”

The disciples of Mencius chuckled when they heard this.

At this time, I heard Meng Zhong say with a calm face: "Although Doctor Hui is my brother, is it because of this that you Confucian scholars respect him and set up a separate seat for him?" I'm afraid not, right? Isn't it because my brother is an important minister of the Song Kingdom? …… My brother was respected by your Confucianism because of his status in the Song Kingdom, and I, as the only Taoist disciple present, was treated like I didn't even sit at the table, which is the etiquette that Confucianism pays attention to. ”

β€œβ€¦β€¦β€

The words made Mencius's disciples red-faced and difficult to refute.

Wan Zhang calmly instructed the Confucian disciples to bring a desk table and a straw mat for Meng Zhong.

Seeing this, Meng Zhongshi Shiran sat on the straw mat and sat cross-legged.

After he sat down, the disciple of Mencius who was ridiculing him immediately asked, "Boy, whose disciple are you?" ”

Meng Zhong glanced at him and said calmly: "Just now, you are waiting for Zhuangzi to laugh at Zhuangzi, and I am sarcastic, but you are still asking me whose disciple I am at this moment. …… Don't you really know in your heart? Sure enough, he was a hypocritical Confucian disciple. ”

Hearing this, the man retorted: "Although you just defended Zhuangzi, but you didn't say it, you didn't say it, how can I know?" ”

When Meng Zhong heard this, he said, "As a disciple of Mencius, can't you guess such an obvious thing? …… Well, you're not hypocritical, you're not intellectual, and I'm wrong about you. ”

"You ......" The Confucian disciple suddenly turned red with anger, and pointed at Meng Zhong speechless.

At this time, another Confucian disciple stopped him and asked Meng Zhongdao, "Are you a disciple of Zhuangzi?" ”

"Exactly." Meng Zhong replied calmly.

Seeing this, the Confucian disciple arched his hand and said: "Under the "Xu Pi", there is a matter that is not clear to consult the Zhuangzi sages, and I believe that Zuxia will be able to give a solution. ”

"Please." Meng Zhong said lightly.

Hearing this, Xu Pi Zhengse said: "The Song State attacked the Teng State, which was an unjust war, causing the lives of the Teng State to be miserable and the people were miserable, and my Confucian disciples frequently persuaded the Song King to stop the war, but Zhuangzi, as a Song State, was still living in seclusion, indifferent to this, and wondered, is it that Zhuangzi supports this unjust war?" ”

Meng Zhong sneered lightly when he heard this: "My mentor Master Zhuang is already over seventy years old, you want such an old man to trek through mountains and rivers and run from Jingbo to Pengcheng to dissuade King Song?" Is this your Confucian way of respecting the elderly? ”

"Not at all." Xu Pi hurriedly changed his words: "I mean, Zhuangzi has always resisted war, and now, the Song State where he was born has raised unrighteous soldiers to attack Teng, doesn't Zhuangzi have any expression?" ”

Meng Zhong shook his head and said: "As the so-called clever woman is difficult to cook without rice, no matter how skillful a woman is, if there is no rice, she will not be able to cook." Although Master Zhuang is a great sage, but the world refuses to follow the master's thoughts, what can Master Zhuang do? …… Just like you Confucianism, you are both a scholar in the world, and the Zou State is close to the Teng State, but this still failed to stop the war between the Song and Teng countries, which is the reason for the lack of timing and conditions. After that, he glanced at Mencius, smiled and said, "I have never heard that Mengfuzi personally went to the Song Kingdom to dissuade the Song king, and I think this is the same reason. ”

β€œβ€¦β€¦β€

Mencius opened his eyes slightly, glanced at Meng Zhong, and said nothing.

He couldn't see through Meng Zhong's little trick of "pulling the topic to Mencius", but because of his identity, he was too lazy to worry about a junior like Meng Zhong.

However, his disciple Xu Pi did not dare to delve into this topic because of this, so as not to "implicate" his teacher Mencius.

However, Xu Pi did not dare to ask, but Gongsun Chou, a proud disciple of Mencius, dared to ask.

He said to Meng Zhong: "Zhuangzi has lived in the Song Kingdom for a long time, but he says that the king of Song refuses to listen to what Zhuangzi says, is it that Zhuangzi's thoughts are useless as the world evaluates?" ”

Meng Zhong said with a smile when he heard this: "In the past, when Yan was in turmoil, the Qi State took advantage of the fire to rob and send troops to attack Yan, it is said that Mencius was in the Jixia School Palace at that time, why couldn't he dissuade the King of Qi?" ”

Gongsun Chou defended: "At that time, Yan was in turmoil, and Qi intervened to pacify the chaos of Yan, and it was not an unjust war......"

Meng Zhong mocked: "Then why was the army of the Qi State finally driven out by the people of the Yan State? It is obviously a fact but you have to admit it slyly, is this the virtue that Confucianism admires? ”

Gongsun was speechless.

Immediately, another disciple of Mencius, "Le Zheng", defended him: "The state of Qi was originally intended to pacify the internal strife of Yan, but later, the king of Qi coveted the land of Yan and tried to annex it. At that time, the master also dissuaded the king of Qi, but the king of Qi refused to listen. ”

Meng Zhong nodded and said, "Master Zhuang is too." ”

Le Zheng was speechless.

"This kid is a bit of an eloquent!"

Mencius's disciples thought to themselves.

Immediately, another Confucian disciple "Chen Zhen" spoke: "In Xia Chen Zhen, there is something unclear, please consult the master disciple of Zhuangzi." ”

"Please." Meng Zhong replied lightly.

I have also read Zhuangzi's writings, and learned that Zhuangzi advocates "desirelessness" and advises the world to restrain greed in their hearts, but Zhuangzi himself pursues "desireless desire", isn't "desireless desire" a kind of human desire? If so, isn't it because of the inconsistencies of Zhuangzi? ”

Meng Zhong shook his head and smiled when he heard this: "What you say under your feet will inevitably make people laugh. Desire is human nature, and it can be divided into two kinds, one is the "desire" that conforms to the way of heaven, which is called "heavenly principle", just like people need food to survive, and excessive is "greed". …… Zhuang Shi's "no desire" refers to the desire of heavenly principles, just like when people are first born, ignorant and ignorant, only know that they want to cry when they are hungry, this is "heavenly principles", in addition, there is no heart, wit, Zhuang Shi advocates no desire, that is, he hopes that the world will abandon the heart and return to the innocence of infancy, Tianli itself exists in the human body, and the foot is summed up by "pursuing the desire of no desire", which is exactly in response to the words of my Taoist sage Lao Tzu, "The Tao can be the way, not the constant way", and the virtuous brother summarizes it with the "endless word" The Infinite Way', itself has already produced a deviation, but why do you think you have caught the handle? …… I heard that Mencius once said that "human nature is inherently good", and explained that goodness is also one of the "heavenly principles" of human existence. Dare to ask Brother Xian, do you want the world to chase 'good', or give up 'good'? ”

"......" Chen Zhen was speechless.

At this time, Mencius glanced at Meng Zhong again.

Although Meng Zhong once again involved the topic on him, Mencius recognized the truth told this time.

He also believes that the "desirelessness" advocated by Zhuangzi and the "inherent goodness of human nature" advocated by him are the "human principles" that people are born with and are inseparable from peopleβ€”people in this world are not lacking in kindness, at best, kindness is buried by "greed".

Therefore, there is no such thing as seeking goodness, only finding goodness; In the same way, the "desirelessness" advocated by Zhuangzi is not the so-called "chasing desireless desire", but the state of returning to "desirelessness".

"This disciple, Zhuangzi taught well."

Glancing at Meng Zhong, Mencius thought secretly.

However, it's just "good".

Following Gongsun Chou, Le Zheng, and Chen Zhen, Mencius's disciple "Wu Lu Lian" asked Meng Zhongdao: "In Xia Wu Lu Lian, I have also watched the "Zhuangzi", and I know that the whole text is full of fallacies, absurd words, and false words, and Zhuangzi uses his own fables to teach the world, do you dare to accuse me of Confucianism 'cleverness'?" ”

Meng Zhong shook his head when he heard the words and said, "This is not a good word. …… What is 'ingenuity'? Clever is cunning, false is false. For example, your Confucian saying "a gentleman cooks far away", when he sees his life, he can't bear to see his death; Hearing its voice, I can't bear to eat its flesh, but I can't bear to eat its flesh when I don't see it, I don't hear it, this is also a clever hypocrisy; While saying things like "a gentleman is poor", he is struggling to be an official, which is also clever; On the one hand, he said that "agriculture, the foundation of the country", and on the other hand, he despised agriculture, saying that "it was done by non-scholars", which is also clever; said "govern the country with courtesy" and imitate the previous kings, but said that "the punishment is not a doctor", this is also a clever hypocrisy! ……”

After citing a number of examples, Meng Zhong glanced at Wu Lulian, who was a little stammering, and asked, "Do you want me to give more examples?" ”

The house was at a loss.

Seeing this, Meng Zhong continued: "And what Master Zhuang said, even if the fable is fabricated, but the truth is true, why is it stuck to the 'appearance'? This is like evaluating a person, clothing is only the 'appearance', talent is 'inside', is it possible that a person's inner character is measured by people's clothing? ”

"......" opened his mouth and was speechless.

In fact, as early as when Meng Zhong gave an example of "ingenuity", he was already speechless.

After that, Mencius's disciple "Gongdu" interface said: "In the lower Gongdu, I also watched the "Zhuangzi", and knew that Zhuangzi once said, "Learning cannot be passed on, karma cannot be helped, and confusion cannot be solved", satirizing my Confucian words and deeds, but he himself accepted his feet as a disciple to teach karma and solve doubts, isn't this ironic? ”

Meng Zhong shook his head when he heard this.

I have to say that this is indeed a point where Zhuangzi is easy to recruit black, but how could Meng Zhong let his teacher be blamed?

So he immediately laughed and retorted: "But there is something more ironic in the world!" …… It is said that there is a person in the world who does not get tired of eating, does not get tired of being fine, does not sit on the seat, does not eat if he does not cut properly, and is said to be 'the gentleman's party'. However, such an upright gentleman obediently ran to the person who threatened him to become an official because of the threat of others, do you think this is ironic? ”

As soon as these words came out, Mencius couldn't help but open his eyes and look at Meng Zhong.

And Wan Zhang, Gongsun Chou and other disciples of Mencius stared at Meng Zhong viciously.

The reason is very simple, because the person mentioned by Meng Zhong is Confucius, the originator of Confucianism, and the person who threatens him is Yang Hu, the powerful minister of the Lu State at that time.

However, Meng Zhong was not afraid, and under the gaze of countless pairs of eyes, he sneered: "However, the most ironic thing is the sentence "The father is hidden for the son, and the son is hidden for the father, and it is in it." …… This is the 'rule of etiquette' advocated by Confucianism, and its integrity is embodied! ”

Hearing this, even if it was Mencius, his face showed a little dissatisfaction.

The reason is simple, because this sentence was said by Confucius in order to protect his proud disciple Zengzi (Zeng Shen), and Mencius was Zengzi's disciple and grandson. [PS: There is something in the previous article, so I won't explain it.] 】

Having said that, dissatisfaction is dissatisfaction, and Mencius also became a little curious about Meng Zhong, because he found that this kid named Meng Zhong seemed to know his Confucianism very well, so much so that even some of his Confucian "black material" was very well understoodβ€”if he hadn't read many of his Confucian books, it would have been difficult to understand so much.

Looking at the ordinary Confucian disciples in the courtyard, they couldn't understand why Wan Zhang, Gongsun Chou, Le Zheng and the others suddenly changed their faces, and glared at the disciple named Meng Zhong viciously.

"Hey, hey, ...... Chung."

Seeing that several proud disciples of Mencius suddenly glared at Meng Zhong viciously, Hui Ang also pinched a cold sweat for his younger brother Meng Zhong.

But at the same time, he was also faintly happy, rejoicing that his righteous brother Meng Zhong, a disciple of the head of the two famous families, was able to force Mencius's disciples to such an extent.

As Hui Ang had guessed, after Meng Zhong "satirized" Confucianism, the debate between him and Mencius's disciples became more intense, and even gradually became a little angry.

In a period of nearly half an hour, more than a dozen of Mencius's most proud disciples, such as Wan Zhang, Gongsun Chou, Le Zheng, Gongdu, Wu Lulian, Chen Zhen, and Xu Pi, repeatedly criticized Meng Zhong, but Meng Zhong replied fluently, and the former was speechless, which not only made Hui Ang breathtaking, but even Mencius became more and more curious about Meng Zhong.

"This son is good at eloquence."

Mencius secretly commented in his heart.

Speaking of eloquence, to be honest, Mencius is also the best among them, and of course, Zhuangzi is also the same.

But the difference between the two disciples at this time was a little obvious, so that Mencius also felt very strange in his heart, wondering where did Zhuangzi find such a disciple who could speak and speak well?

I have to say that at this moment, no one dares to underestimate Meng Zhong, a young man who looks only fourteen years old, even if he is Mencius's most proud disciple Wan Zhang, he no longer dares to simply regard Meng Zhong as 'Hui An's righteous brother' at this moment.

He asked Meng Zhongdao: "Zhuangzi teaches the world with falsehoods, absurd words, and false words, you call them "true and good", and my Confucianism expounds the truth to the world with true words, but Zhuangzi says "clever and hypocritical", is there anything more unfair in this world?" ”

Meng Zhong shook his head when he heard this and said, "What you say is just an 'appearance'. ”

As he spoke, he picked up the bowl on the table, took a sip of the water in it, and praised it: "This water is sweet, this should be from a clear mountain spring, right?" ”

Wan Zhang didn't understand what Meng Zhong meant, but still replied: "It is indeed from a mountain spring in the nearby mountains. ”

Seeing this, Meng Zhong nodded and said, "Let's answer the confusion again." …… Master Zhuang's thought is intended to explain to the world the truth between heaven and earth, just like this bowl of water, the reason why it is sweet is because its essence is 'mountain spring', not that this bowl makes it sweet, and it is replaced by a precious jade bowl, this mountain spring is still a mountain spring, not that changing the utensils will make it better, this is the truth. …… My Taoism pays attention to morality, Confucianism pays attention to benevolence, what is virtue? Virtue is the water in this bowl, the 'Tao' that exists between heaven and earth, you don't need to care about the way of speaking, just give the truth to the world, and you Confucianism is afraid that the world will not know the sweetness of this bowl of water, and try to use a bright bowl to fill it, but instead it will fall inferior. ”

Wan Zhang originally wanted to refute, but at this time, Mencius suddenly raised his hand to stop him, intending to let Meng Zhong continue.

Meng Zhong did not notice Mencius's movements, and continued to say to Wan Zhang: "I have heard that Confucius divided 'filial piety' into three levels, 'respecting one's parents', 'respecting one's parents', 'secondarily humiliating', so that one's parents are not insulted, and 'being able to support one', that is, simply supporting one's parents. He also said, "How is it different from raising pigs and dogs?" This is the filial piety advocated by Confucius.

Zengzi believed that people who emphasize benevolence can only embody benevolence through filial piety; people who emphasize benevolence and righteousness can only grasp the appropriate degree through filial piety; people who emphasize loyalty can only truly meet the requirements of loyalty through filial piety; people who emphasize honesty can only be true faithfulness through filial piety; people who emphasize etiquette can only have a true understanding of etiquette through filial piety; and strong people can only truly show strength through filial piety.

Then, Zengzi said, "If the king is disloyal, he is not filial; Officials are disrespectful, not filial piety", loyalty to the monarch is also attributed to filial piety, and filial piety is divided into five grades, namely 'filial piety of the Son of Heaven', 'filial piety of princes', 'filial piety of doctors', 'filial piety of scholars', and 'filial piety of people'.

Filial piety is certainly one of the virtues in the world, but is it only you Confucianism who advocate these virtues?

No, filial piety, benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, and faith are themselves virtues that exist in heaven and earth: the crow feeds back, and benevolence is also; The deer gets the grass and sings its flock, and the bees see the flowers and gather their people, and it is righteous; The lamb kneels to the milk, the horse does not deceive the mother, and the etiquette is also; Spiders collect webs to feed, ants plug burrows to avoid water, and wisdom is also; The chicken does not know but does not sing, the swallow does not come, and the letter is also.

These virtues themselves exist between heaven and earth, and you, Confucianism, teach people filial piety but do not teach people filial piety, and you still insist on adding such a complicated hierarchy to these filial pieties......

I once heard that there was a merchant who found a pearl of the night worth a thousand gold, hoping to sell it for a good price, but he was worried that the world would not understand the value of the pearl, so he carved a box of pearls out of precious wood, smoked the box with spices, and decorated it with jewels and precious jade, connected with beautiful jade, decorated with jade, and decorated with kingfisher feathers.

One day, a Zheng Guoren bought the wooden box, but threw the night pearl back to the merchant. ”

Glancing around at the Confucian disciples around him, Meng Zhong Zhengse said: "Confuse the world with red tape and clever words, causing the world to turn the end upside down, just like the Zheng people who bought the pearls, isn't this what you Confucianism has been doing?" My teacher Zhuang Fuzi said that you are Confucianism and hypocrisy, what is wrong? ”

When the words fell, the surrounding people were silent, all the Confucian disciples were dumbfounded, and even Mencius opened his eyes wide, and immediately stroked his gray beard to reveal a thoughtful look.

At this time, I heard Hui Ang cough, pointed to Meng Zhong and introduced: "Cough, although it is a little late, but let me introduce this virtuous brother below, he is the proud disciple of Zhuangzi, and at the same time he is also the disciple of Huizi, the head of the two academic families, the head of the two academic families, the person of the Song Kingdom, Meng Zhong!" ”

β€œβ€¦β€¦β€

Hundreds of Confucian scholars are still silent.
