Chapter Twenty-Four: Good and Evil Must Be Repaid

Juanzi took a tree branch, stretched out the gap in the shed, stabbed Xiangzi's waist, and said, "Listen to the master of the monastery that if you chant Buddha, you will be reborn in the Western Elysium." Do you think there really is Elysium? ”
When Xiangzi asked, he looked a little excited and said, "Why not?" I read in the scriptures that the Western Elysium is beautiful. The houses are made of precious stones, and the trees and flowers are all preached. As long as I was born there, I would be with Amitabha Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and Dashi Zhi Bodhisattva every day. Everyone is a purple and golden body, never old, sick or dead. Where do you want to go, the thought moves, and the body is already there. ”
Juanzi seemed to come to her senses, and she moved her body forward. The voice said with some urgency: "Then who recites the Buddha, can they be reborn in the Elysian World?" ”
Xiangzi turned around and smiled, and said, "Yes, this is called ten thousand cultivators." ”
After a pause, Shoko continued: "However, there are also many particularities here. The ancients said that the prerequisite for ten thousand cultivators to go is to practice according to the Fa. It's not that you can just recite a few Buddha names and you can die. ”
When Juanzi saw him, he stopped and didn't say anything. So he anxiously stabbed Xiangzi's waist with a tree branch, and stabbed it a few times irritably, saying, "Go on, squeeze toothpaste!" ”
Xiangzi cleared his throat and continued: "Those who recite Buddha must first have: faith, wish, action, and three qualities. This belief is the belief that what the Buddha said is true. I am convinced that reciting Buddha is the cause, and becoming a Buddha is the effect. Also, you have to firmly believe that you are a Buddha and that you have lost your true nature. As long as you practice according to the method that the Buddha said, you will find your original nature and become a Buddha by yourself. To wish is to have a strong desire to be reborn in the Elysian World. Be willing to do what the Buddha teaches; Yes, it is to put it into action, not just talk about it without substantive action. With faith and wishing, the next step is the method of chanting the Buddha. The Bodhisattva said, 'Supervise the six roots, and the pure thoughts follow one another. That is, let go of all affiliations and recite the Buddha with a pure mind. ”
Juanzi woke up like a dream and said: "Okay, you, usually don't say a word, like a stuffy gourd." Unexpectedly, you still have a lot of things in your stuffy gourd. Then you say, how many Buddha names do you have to recite a day before you can recite the Buddha? ”
Shoko smiled at her and said, "The purpose of chanting Buddha is to cultivate a pure mind. Our sentient beings have very heavy disturbing habits and a lot of delusions. The Buddha asked us to replace all thoughts with a Buddha name, this thought, in order to achieve a pure mind. As long as your mind is really pure enough not to have a single thought, you can stop reciting the Buddha. But your mind is not pure, and while you are chanting the Buddha, you are still fighting delusions. Reciting 100,000 Buddha names every day is also in vain. Just like the ancients said: The mouth and mind are scattered, and it is in vain to shout and break the throat. ”
Juanzi listened, and said with a little grievance in her voice: "Then I can be regarded as a vain thought, when I don't recite the Buddha, I don't feel that I have any thoughts." But before he could recite a few words of Buddha, he began to think wildly. ”
Xiangzi smiled and said: "It's all the same, there are few people in the world who really don't have delusions." When you don't recite the Buddha, you don't feel delusions because your mind is messy. When I started reciting the Buddha, my mind was relatively quiet, and I felt delusional. For this reason, Gu Dade has a good method, which is called stone pressing grass. When you don't have a thought, you don't have to recite the Buddha's name. However, as long as the delusion moves, it will be pressed down with the name of Amitabha Buddha. Over time, delusions will naturally become less and less. The key to this method is to detect it in time. The first thought is delusional, and the second thought is to be replaced by Amitabha. You can't think about it for a long time before you think about chanting Buddha. Goode said: I'm not afraid to read it, I'm only afraid to be late. ”
Juanzi looked a little excited, and simply tore open the branches, revealing half of her flushed cheeks, and said, "Brother Xiangzi, I really admire you, how do you know so much?" ”
Shoko, looking a little smug, smiled at her and said; "Most of this is what the brothers in the same dormitory talked about. Last time, a senior brother who lived with me was amazing, and he understood everything. Everyone asked him a lot of questions, and he answered them one by one, and the head was the way. No one could ask him, and everyone admired him very much. That day, we talked until dawn. ”
Shoko's excitement seemed to be back to the scene at that time. Juanzi seemed to think to herself: "Didn't the mage say that you can die with one thought or ten thoughts, why is it so troublesome to hear what you said?" ”
Shoko laughed and said, "You didn't understand what the mage meant. This ten thoughts is about one thought and ten thoughts at the end of life. Instead, the usual one thought and ten thoughts.
Indeed, at the end of one's life, one thought or ten thoughts can lead to death. However, who can guarantee that his last thought at the end of his life is Amitabha, not thinking about family affection, children's property, etc. Usually chanting Buddha is to gradually fade away the concern for family and property in the world. And let the pure mind gradually emerge. When you reach a certain level of effort, you can ensure that you can maintain mindfulness at the end of your life and die smoothly. This is also like singing, one minute on stage, ten years off the stage.
Moreover, reciting the Buddha to die has to help fate. It is to do more deeds of virtue and goodness. I have read "The Buddha Says the Amitabha Sutra", and the sutra clearly says: You can't be born in another country without good roots. So. If you want to die smoothly, you also need to be blessed. The content of this blessing is also clearly explained by the Buddha in the Three Blessings of Pure Karma: First, filial piety to parents, serving teachers, compassion and not killing, and cultivating the ten good karmic paths. The second is to take the three refuges, have sufficient precepts, and do not commit prestige. The third is to develop bodhichitta, believe in cause and effect, recite Mahayana, and persuade those who carry it out. ”
Juanzi asked puzzledly, "Do you still want to cultivate ten kinds of good deeds?" ”
Xiangzi glanced at her lovingly, and then said, "Cultivating the ten good karma is the foundation of Buddhist practice. Its content is divided into: body, mouth, mind, and three aspects. The three karmas of the body: killing, stealing, and fornicating. The four karma of the mouth: lies, two tongues, gossip, and evil mouths. Three karmas: greed, hatred, and ignorance. ”
Juanzi, as if she understood a little, nodded and said, "Well, here, it's not difficult to be filial to your parents." These ten good karma are a bit mysterious when I think about it, especially the oral karma. ”
When Xiangzi heard this, he nodded and said with feeling: "Speaking of filial piety, it is difficult to be perfect." In the past, I thought that filial piety to my parents meant that when my parents were old and weak, I would not let them lack food and clothing, and let them live as rich as possible. Since the last time, I listened to that senior brother's explanation, and I realized that it was not so simple. Filial piety includes: the body of adoptive parents, the heart of adoptive parents, and the will of adoptive parents. Confucius also said: Dogs and horses can be raised, how can there be no difference in disrespect. For this reason, Confucius's students once asked Confucius: What is the most difficult thing to practice filial piety? Confucius replied: Lust is difficult. In other words, it is easiest to make parents worry about food and clothing. And it is the hardest thing to always keep and give your parents a pleasant face. And this is the key to filial piety. ”
When Juanzi heard this, she smiled and said, "So, I'm not filial enough to my father." ”
Xiangzi smiled at her and said, "Anyway, you are sometimes very fierce to the shopkeeper." ”
Juanzi puffed out her mouth and muttered with displeasure: "It's not because of that vixen that he gets angry when he sees it." ”
Xiangzi, with a somewhat solemn expression, said: "In everything, there is a cause and an effect. There are some things that are not within your power and mine, which can be controlled. ”
Juanzi pondered for a moment and said to herself, "The power of cause and effect is really so amazing? Isn't there a way to get rid of it? ”
Xiangzi sighed deeply and said, "The law of cause and effect can be said to be the best "moral law" in the universe. Not only ordinary people, but also those who cannot escape the great net of cause and effect. Even enlightened Buddhas and bodhisattvas cannot escape the karma of cause and effect.
There was an old layman who told me a story about the Buddha. It is said that back then, the Buddha was in the ashram, speaking Dharma and giving teachings to his disciples. Suddenly, from outside the ashram, a pregnant girl walked in. She walked up to the Buddha, pointed at the Buddha and said, "Shaman! You've hurt me so much! You impregnated me, but you maliciously forsook me. I've searched for you everywhere, but I can't find you. It turns out that you are hiding here and enjoying yourself. Now, I've finally found it. Say, "How are you going to place me?"
It turned out that this girl was sent by the outside world and was not really pregnant. She tied the basin to her belly, pretending to be pregnant. In this way, they slandered the Buddha and destroyed the Buddha's reputation. Of course, it was still for the Buddha's disciples to see through and expose her tricks.
Disciples, when they saw this situation in doubt, they turned their doubts into peace. However, doubts still arise. Why the liberated sage, the Buddha. Will you still suffer this retribution? Therefore, the Saribuddha is asking the Buddha on behalf of all the disciples. What caused this woman to slander the Buddha?
The Buddha told his disciples that a very, very long time ago, in a royal city, there was a virtuous woman named the Good Illusion Woman. She has great respect for the practitioners and often makes offerings to them. In particular, he often made offerings to two mages. One is called asexuality, and the other is called perennial. A sexless mage, he is very diligent in his cultivation and has high virtues. Therefore, it is quite respected by everyone. As for Master Changguan, although he is a practitioner, he has very worldly habits.
Although, the Good Illusion Girl makes equal offerings to the two mages every day. But in terms of attitude, it is inevitable that there will still be the distinction of ordinary people. As a result, the respect for the Constant Meditation Master is not as thoughtful as the Sexual Master.
After a long time, the Venerable Master of Ordinary Meditation, who was suffering from differences, was unable to understand the truth of ordinary minds because of the heavy habits of the world. Therefore, a strong fire of jealousy arises. He met people who spread rumors that the good phantom girl must have an affair with the asexual mage. Although, on the surface, they are the same offerings, but secretly, there must be differences. Although he was persuaded, he still continued to maliciously slander and spread rumors.
At this point, the Buddha paused for a moment. Then he said to his disciples, "Do you know who the Changguan Master is?" That's my predecessor! Because of the virtuous cultivators who have maliciously slandered. Therefore, he fell into hell for thousands of years, and suffered from the burning of his body. Although I have attained liberation, I still have a remnant of suffering. Therefore, they still have to be slandered in the same way.
Therefore, even a liberated sage. In the past, he maliciously slandered the karma of others. After an extremely long period of time. After all, it still has to come back to yourself.
'Whoever slanders, he will always slander him.' The delicacy and unhappiness of cause and effect really make people think of it, and they break out in a cold sweat. ”
Juanzi was silent for a while before she raised her hand, slapped it heavily on the bottom of the car, and said, "My mother! It's terrible, if you do something bad, you can't hide from the retribution. ”
Xiangzi, seeing her nervous look, smiled and said, "Or how could the ancients say, 'There is no way for good and evil, but people call themselves, and the retribution of good and evil follows like a shadow'?" In addition, this cause and effect is through the third world. Some causes can only be rewarded in the Hereafter; Some causes, under the influence of fate in the present life, show retribution. That's what people call it, the Present World. ”
