Chapter 54: Snow Raven Island
Half a month later, the Featon freighter successfully crossed the Trembling Sea, returning from the port of Ranti Saint-Michiel to the island of Fetton Frost Trail.
Due to the rising waters, Si Berry is now completely unrecognizable to Frost Trail Island. Friedlier's Taru longhouse, Mikicharan's humble wooden house, the training ground where warriors practiced martial arts, and even the entire Ice Harbor have completely disappeared to the bottom of the sea. Even part of the dense cedar forest outside the Ice Whispering Harbor has been submerged in the sea.
Looking at the trees that were half submerged in the sea, and the extremely unfamiliar frost trail island in front of her, Si Brisi felt a trace of fear.
Once the ship had anchored at a gentle slope, Mikicharan saw a man coming down from the hill on the island.
When the man had gone a little further, Miki Charan waved at him and shouted, "Where have you all moved to?" β
Lyragson, who had jumped down the hill at a brisk pace after seeing Mikicharan, said before and after he came to Mikicharan, "Sage, you have finally returned. β
"Where did you move to?" Miki Charan repeated, "I heard from the sailors on the cargo ship long before I came that the Ice Whispering Harbor was probably not in the water when they set off. I didn't expect it to be the same as the port of St. Michiel now. β
"Was the port of Saint-Michel in Randy also flooded?" Leila Gerson asked.
Mikicharan nodded.
"Sage, we've moved to the Valley of the Frost. Unfortunately, the Port of Ice Whisper was submerged by the rising tides of the sea. But before the tide flooded the house, all of us were moving everything we could there, organized by Evenson. There we built camps. β
"Oh, I went there, it's very high, and the sea shouldn't be able to rise there for a while." Mikicharan then turned to ask, "What about your good friend Evenson?" Where is he now? β
"When he came back from the Isle of Eternal Night, he went to Garland right after." Lera Gerson said.
"Did he go back to Taru?" Miki Charan asked.
"Yes, Sage." Lerageson hung his head and continued, "But as you know, there's not much hope of finding Taru. Once Azor's navy blocked the course of the Garland, Evenson and the others would have no way to get close to the Emerald City. They had to search for traces of Taru offshore. β
After glancing at Siberis, who was looking at Leilagson, Miki Charan sighed softly and continued to ask Leilagersen, "How long does Evenson plan to search?" β
"I don't know when he'll be able to search for it, Sage." "If they can't get into the river and don't get enough supplies, they won't have to go back for long." β
Mikicharan nodded, and she turned to Siberis, "Let's pray for the guidance of the ancestors for them here." Hopefully, Evenson will find Taru and they can return safely together. After they get back, we'll talk about going to Snowcrow Island. After all, we don't have any ships to take at the moment. β
Sibriss nodded vigorously and did not speak.
A few days later, on a cold morning with a cold wind, Sibris, who was strolling along the coast with Noshi, saw the Starlight and the Bear Slayer returning from the Isle of Fire and Ice.
At first, Sibeliss was excited and expectant to see the two ships, but as the ships slowly approached, she turned disappointed. Because she saw that the man standing on the bow of the Starlight looking at Frosttrail Island didn't look like Friedlier. If Friedrier had been found, she thought, he would have stood at the bow of the ship, looking at the changed Frost Island.
As Sibriss thought, Evenson did not find Friedlier, and she was once again in despair because of her hope.
Evenson commanded the Starlight to anchor into a bay that was not affected by the wind and waves, and then he led the men ashore ashore.
"I didn't find him." Evenson walked past Siberis, who had been waiting on the shore, and he said to her after glancing at her.
Although Siberlisy had been prepared in her heart, she was also heartbroken again. After seeing all the warriors disembark, she and Nohibi slowly walked back to the camp in frustration.
Back at the camp, Sibriss saw that Miki Charan was already talking to Evenson.
"Evenson, you've done a great job." After comforting Evenson, Micky Charan turned to him and said, "I heard Lyragson say that Rycliel is king now?" β
"Not really." "King Tofoli went missing on his way to Coldmoon Island to escape the rising waters. Rickrell took the opportunity to take over the kingdom. β
"I've also heard that you and Dragonheart Island had a conflict before." Miki Charan said as he looked at Evenson.
"Yes, Sage." Evenson hung his head and said, "It's all because I'm too impulsive, Taru told me not to get involved in the strife. I, I let him down. β
"You can't blame it all either. After all, this kind of thing is sometimes difficult to avoid. Mikicharan asked, "Now with the disappearance of King Tofoli, the strife within our Pheton is over, right?" β
"It's almost over. Most of them, with the exception of a few islands, have expressed support for Rickrell taking over Fayton. I also sent to the Isle of Eternal Night to show that the Isle of Frost was obedient to his leadership. Evenson said.
Mikicharan nodded.
"You've also seen that these power struggles aren't the biggest thing for Fayton at the moment. The most terrible thing at the moment is that as the sea continues to rise, all the islands, including our Frost Trail Island, have been flooded with seawater, and all the Phaedon Islanders have fallen into unprecedented difficulties. Evenson said worriedly, "I wish Tharu was here." I really don't know how to lead us Frost Islanders through this situation now, and I don't even know what else I can do. β
Mikicharan turned his head to look into the distance, and then said, "It's a pity he's not here. We have to figure it out on our own. If this continues, people's lives will only get harder. β
Evenson sighed and said, "I'm only now realizing that I simply don't have what it takes to lead the Frostband Islanders on behalf of Friedley. β
"How many more ships do we have?" Miki Charan asked.
"There are four more cargo ships." "But there are only two ships left, the Starlight and the Bear Slayer. β
Miki Charan looked at Sibris, who was walking slowly with her head hanging not far away, and then said softly, "I'm afraid that only the Starlight is left in the warship." β
"What?" Evenson turned to look at Sibelis, and asked confusedly, "That's Siberys's ship, don't you know?" β
"But it's not hers anymore." Mikicharan said.
Evenson was stunned for a moment, then he turned to Sebriss and asked her, "What's going on with your ship?" β
Cybriss looked at Evenson, who hesitated for a moment, then said, "I gave it to a few warriors. β
"Handed over to the warriors? Why? Evenson's eyes widened as he asked her.
"In order for them to get more people on board the cargo ship that left Overwatch." Sibelis whispered.
After a moment of reflection, Evenson felt a burst of anger, and he patted his head to suppress the strong resentment in his heart against Siberys. He was hindered by the affection of Mikicharan beside him, and did not continue to accuse Siberis. After all, he thought, that ship still belonged to Frosttrail Island, but if he used it next time, he would have to pay those warriors a requisition commission.
"Evenson, Cyberys and I need to make a trip to Snowcrow Island." "It's not easy for fishing boats to get that far, so we've been waiting for you to come back. β
"What are you going to do there?" Evenson pointed at Sibeliss depressedly and said to Mickcharan, "She has a warship of her own, you can go wherever you want." β
"Forgive her, Evenson, she's just a child." "For Friedlier's sake." β
"Ancestor, if it weren't for this little witch luring Taru to the Emerald City, I think Taru would still be here right now." Evenson said angrily, "I can't forgive her. β
"I'm sorry." Chillery hung her head and said to Evenson, "I, I don't want to, I don't want this to happen. β
Miki Charan stroked Sibelis's head and said, "Sibelis, it's okay. Taru will definitely be back. β
"Maiden, tell me what you are going to do on Snow Raven Island?" Evenson asked.
"Have you heard of the signs of the snow crow?" Mikicharan looked up at him and asked.
"What!" Evenson looked at Miki Charan in astonishment, and was dumbfounded for a moment.
"You know?" Miki Charan was surprised by Evenson's reaction, and she asked him.
"A sign of a snow crow." Evenson said, "Don't you know, sage? β
"Of course I don't, Evenson." Miki Charan said, "Have you heard? Did your mentor at the PanthΓ©on, Lady Dilgar, tell you? Tell me, what she said. β
"This. This is indeed what the mentor told me. "She said... A sign of a snow crow, a sign that means the imminent destruction of the world. Tutor she said. She says that the snow crows on Snow Raven Island will fly away from Snow Raven Island before the world is destroyed. β
"But there are no snow crows on Snow Raven Island." "The snow crows have long since disappeared, and no one has ever seen a real snow crow. People have only seen some white bird drawings from caves in Talon Mountain. β
"I know, but the signs, are there." Evenson hesitated and said, "Let's go to Snow Raven Island." Maybe there's a snow crow there now? β
"Can there be such a thing?" Miki Charan asked Evenson.
"I don't know." Evenson shook his head and said, "But Delgar's words are always wrong. β
"The destruction of the world," Mikicharan whispered.
"Where did you hear about this, Virtuous?" Evenson then asked.
Mikicharan looked at Sibris, who looked at Evenson, and then tentatively said, "On my way to Randy, Nohibi led me to find a man named Marquis Daniro. He was sick and dying. He told us before he died. He asked me to help him send a message to Ariel that the signs of the snow crow had appeared. β
"The Marquis of Randy," said Evenson, after a moment's thought, "let's go to Snowcrow Island and find Ariel as soon as possible." The matter of finding him is clear. β
"When are we going?" Miki Charan asked.
"The ship's supplies are empty, tomorrow we will assemble the supplies, and we will leave the day after tomorrow." Evenson said.
On the night of the third day, looking at the reflection of the glowstone lamp on the bow of the Starlight as it swept across the sea, Ciperys, after a moment's hesitation, rose from the bench and walked to Evenson on the other side of the ship, where she said to him, "Hello, Evenson. There's something Tharu gave me, with you, right? β
"Are you asking me for the True Eye?" Evenson squinted at Siberis and said, "But now is not the time for you. β
"I didn't ask for it." Cyblices said.
"So what do you want to say?" Evenson said impatiently as he looked at Si Bailis.
"I want to tell you that the thing you call the True Eye is capable of seeing things that people don't normally notice." Cyblics looked at Evenson and said.
"You don't have to tell me." "I know how to use it." β
"Well, but," Siberis continued, after a moment's hesitation, "but I was told before that one could still see the gods through that object. β
"I don't want to hear you talk about this, little witch. I tell you, any god has died in the twilight of the gods. "I don't understand what kind of demon Taru has in mind to be so obsessed with you, a little witch." You'd better get back to your bench, and if you get caught in the waves, I'm not going to stop and save you. β
Cyblices watched as Evenson finished speaking, then hung her head silently. She sat down beside Mikicharan and buried her head in her arms.
Sailing into the dawn, with a thin sea mist, Evenson stood on the bow of the ship and peered out into the sea, looking for the tall Talon Mountain on Snowcrow Island, and he knew they were about to reach Snowcrow Island.
As Evenson was observing, he suddenly saw the shadow of what appeared to be a Feyton ship in a mist.
Evenson confirmed it a little, and he immediately gave the sailor the order to turn to the position of the ship. As the Starlight approached the ship, Evenson saw that the bow of the ship was carved with a crow, and the crow's eyes were inlaid with glowite, which was glowing a faint white.
"Hey !!" Evenson shouted at the ship.
"Evenson, take a closer look." Evenson's side, Lerageson, was also looking at the ship, and after observing it for a while, he said to Evenson, "If you look closely, there doesn't seem to be anyone on that ship. β
As soon as Evenson heard what Lerageson said, he immediately pulled out his "True Eye".
Through the "True Eye", he was astonished to see that there was no figure on the ship, its sails were half-hanging, and there were no warriors' shields hanging on the sides of the ship, nor were there any paddle for rowing.
"Paddle that way, get closer to it, and get ready to grappling the hook." After observing the anomaly, Evenson put away his "True Eye" and commanded loudly to the others.
The Starlight approached the empty ship, and the warriors on board threw their grappling hooks into the side of the Snowcrow Island ship, pulling the ropes and pulling the two ships together at sea.
After the two ships were together, the people on the Starlight were surprised to see that there were a large number of bird carcasses piled up on this unmanned warship.
Evenson stepped over the side of the ship and jumped into the cabin of the Raven Island warship. He covered his nose with one hand and used his sword to sweep away the piles of bird corpses with the other. Under the bird's carcass, he was horrified to find a bare arm, which was covered with abscesses like snake scales.
After seeing this, Lyragson and several warriors jumped into the ships of Snowcrow Island, and together with Evenson, they tried to clean up the corpse from under the bird. However, in the process of cleaning up, to their surprise, there was not only one person buried under the carcasses of these birds, but many people, many Featon warriors.
Sibriss leaned on the side of the Starlight and looked over, and she found that all the bodies that had been cleaned up were the same as the signs of poisoning of the Marquis of Daniro, whom she had seen in Randy that day.
"They're poisoned." Sibeliss immediately said to Evenson, "Same as the man I saw that day in Randy." β
"What poison?" Evenson asked, turning to her.
"A poison called the Absu Snake Society." Sibelis thought back.
Evenson looked at Cyboris in bewilderment, and he turned to Leragson and asked, "Do you know what she's talking about?" β
Leila Gerson shook her head.
"Little witch, make your words clearer. What kind of poison is that? Evenson asked Cyblis.
Siberice shook her head, "That's all the gentleman told me. β
"So what kind of secret meeting did you just mention, and what do they do? Were they the ones who attacked this ship on Snowcrow Island? Evenson continued.
Siberis shook her head, "I don't know about this, that's all I know." β
"Are you kidding me?" Evenson said as he looked at Sibelis.
"Evenson, something must have happened to this ship. Let's go to Snowcrow Island and find Ariel as soon as possible. Mikicharan said.
Evenson nodded, ignoring Silberis.
Seeing that the ships on Snowcrow Island were littered with corpses, barely able to sit on the sailors, Evenson said to the sailors of the Starlight, "Tow this ship behind our ship." Leave a few sailors to simply steer the direction. It's not far from Raven Island, and we're dragging it along. β
The Starlight, which was towing the warship of Snowcrow Island, slowly approached Snowcrow Island after passing through the calm sea.
Evenson saw that the sea had also submerged a large part of Snowcrow Island's lowland area, and that the harbor and farmhouses that had been there before, as well as any traces of people's previous lives, had been submerged in the water. If it weren't for the huge, peakless Talon Mountain in the distance, Evenson felt like he wouldn't even be able to make out where it was now.
"Watch out for the water, we'll go around the high ground and anchor at the foot of Talon Mountain." Evenson commanded the sailors.
