Chapter Ninety-Six: The German Response
The German 707th Division, which was involved in the war against the Soviet Union as a second-line unit. The commander of the division was the same Schneider, because the troops had suffered a major blow, and his troops were ordered to move closer in the direction of Moziri, and now the division headquarters is located in the town of Kuta.
This unit was attacked by Soviet troops in the town of Luvanka and suffered a crushing defeat, the devastating warehouse explosion, more than 1,000 troops were killed, and more than 2,000 were injured to varying degrees. Some of the unlucky ones were burned, and some were blown away by the air waves and injured their bones.
It stands to reason that this unit has suffered such a big blow that they should return to the rear to rest.
Unexpectedly, the base camp of the German army continued to ask them to escort goods, and the Germans did not take any measures to replace the division commander Schneider.
"The FΓΌhrer is too busy to take care of our second- and third-rate troops." Schneider told his subordinates his guesses, and he received a sanction without any change in his position.
However, the troops were severely weakened, with more than 3,000 people reduced, but fortunately, the strength of the entire contingent still exceeded 10,000.
They began to be frightened, and they had to continue to be responsible for transporting supplies, and trucks were still running the road. The Germans learned their lesson, they took the initiative to fortify on both sides of the road, and a search was carried out in the form of a small detachment to ensure the safety of the road.
Therefore, the two companies of German troops that Yang Mingzhi encountered were the troops of the guerrillas. The battle was so sudden that before the enemy could contact their headquarters, the guys with the radio on their backs were shot.
Schneider sits at the headquarters and is responsible for the normal dispatch of materials. He was in a good mood, and his soldiers gradually came out of the haze of the big explosion. Of course, Schneider himself was very glad that if he hadn't run out without permission, he would have been blown into a puff of smoke.
Once I thought about it, my good mood turned bad. "These damn stragglers, you've done a good deed to force me to use brutal means against you."
Bang bang, there was a knock on the door.
"Please come in!"
Coming in was an officer, a man named Schultz, who was in charge of liaising with the search teams, and now he wanted Schneider to report an anomaly.
"Report to the sir, our 3rd and 7th squads, who have searched the village of Bir Boskaya, have not reported to us until now. The other units have all reported their search for today, but these two units are now in a state of disconnection. β
Schneider sat up straight and asked, "When was the last time those two teams reported?" β
"It's ten o'clock in the morning. As required, they had to report back to us before the sun went down. β
Hearing this, a bad feeling welled up in my heart. Schneider looked at Scholz vigilantly, "The people who sent out, do they bring enough batteries on their behalf, and will the woods interfere with the radio?" β
Schultz immediately shook his head at these questions. "They carry enough batteries for four days, and as for radio interference from the forest, this can be ruled out. Now they can't be reached, either the radio station was accidentally damaged, or they were attacked. β
Was it really attacked? Schneider stood up sharply.
Although Schultz did not believe that the troops had been attacked, he did not send back a report of the attack. "If the Soviets had suddenly appeared, they would not have been able to wipe out almost two hundred of us very quickly. Fighting takes time, and they will definitely debrief the situation. Schultz had a look of contempt on his face.
"That's right. But what if it's really an attack? We have already suffered a big loss, and it turns out that there is indeed a very strong Soviet army in the forest. They are likely to be hiding in the swamps of the south, which are easy to defend and difficult to attack.
During these days, we have eliminated some Soviet stragglers, and some so-called guerrillas who have fainted from hunger. They looted our convoy mainly for food, and some of the villagers you interrogated, apparently the Soviets had already been robbed by their own soldiers. β
Hearing this, Schultz smiled. "A barbarian is a barbarian, the Third Reich is attacking fiercely, and the enemy has begun to kill each other."
"Let's not talk about the guerrillas robbing ordinary people in the Soviet Union." Schneider continued, "I guess something must have happened in that village. Now, even if the sun has set, you have to command your men to move closer to that village. I fear that all the soldiers of these two squads have been killed. β
Schultz saluted and reincarnated and left. He himself didn't quite believe in the teacher's guesses, after all, these guesses were too amazing. How could a team of 200 men say that there was no such thing, and he ordered the search party to take action.
Therefore, there was a time lag here, when the nearby German troops entered the village and saw a mess, Yang Mingzhi had already left with a large army. The distance between the two armies was very far apart, but Yang Mingzhi did not know that these heavily armed German troops were also hiding in this forest.
In this way, early in the morning, Schultz rushed to the office of the division headquarters in a hurry, wanting to report the shocking news to the division commander who had just woken up.
"They're all dead! Those two squads, more than 180 people, all died. β
Schneider immediately became excited when he heard this, and he inquired again and got accurate information. That is, the two search teams were completely wiped out, and the village was empty.
The people in the division headquarters were all very angry when they heard the news, and some of them were even scolding and asking the Soviets to give more color. "Maybe it's time for us to change the rules." Schneider pretended to sit calmly in his seat, "It's time for the Soviets to experience what fear is and what is retribution for resistance." From now on, for every soldier we die, two Soviets have to be hanged. For every soldier wounded, a Soviet man had to be shot.
I used to be too polite to these fellows, but now I have to do what the FΓΌhrer orders. The security obstacles on both sides of the road must be removed, and all the partisans and the Soviets who did not want to cooperate must be killed. β
This was a very cruel order, and in that plane, the German 707th Division did a good job of massacring civilians. In the battle to clear the guerrillas, the division wiped out more than 10,000 people in the first battle. But are these people guerrillas? The answer is naturally no, this so-called glorious result is the killing of ordinary people, including young children.
This seems to be an inevitability for the 707th Division, the commander of this plane is Schneider, but he is still a very stubborn Nazi, an executioner. Coupled with the shame of being severely defeated before, and the inexplicable killing of more than a hundred troops, he must take revenge, and the target is the tomahawk.
In fact, there were Soviets in the town of Kuta, and these people were prisoners. Ordinary residents, either fleeing or having been killed, and the town of Kuta was just one of several small towns occupied by the Germans, and it was only temporarily stockpiling large quantities of supplies.
Because the prisoners captured at the front were also to be temporarily held here, and then transported to the rear, there were too many prisoners in Moziri, and the town was divided into more than a thousand prisoners.
"One hundred and eighty people were killed, and three hundred and sixty Soviets had to pay the price. I order, this afternoon, that three hundred and sixty prisoners be executed. β
Schneider's order was very sudden, but everyone was eager to take revenge. Besides, these Soviet prisoners were used as slaves and were a kind of "expendable". The front line is still transporting new prisoners here, and it is okay to execute some to make room for them.
In this way, the bloody massacre of the German army began, and these guys vented their anger.
Yang Mingzhi and the others, who were marching towards Kuta Town, did not know this, and the troops of more than 2,000 people were focused on the forest march on weekdays. They ran much faster than Chernenko's partisans, so much so that the old guy cried bitterly.
"You must have eaten too well on weekdays, and our equipment is much less than yours, and we are still desperately trying to catch up." After speaking, Chernenko was already out of breath.
Yang Mingzhi supported this person, and even introduced the two girls with some ostentatious tones. "You guys, it's mainly because the training is not done in the right way. Our 284th Guards Division has been working the skills of forest warfare, and you see, these two girls can keep up with our large forces. β
Star fruit and Natasha smiled, in fact, the girls were also very tired, and they had to be strong to make it easy.
In this way, Chernenko said that he did not want to continue the attack, and if he continued at this rate, he would be able to reach the town of Kuta in the evening. This seems to be too fast, and the troops still have to plan for the battle.
Yang Mingzhi looked at his watch, it happened to be around noon. He didn't know that on the side of Kuta Town, the frightened 707th Division thought that its troops had been annihilated, which was a very bad signal, and the whole division began to defend.
At noon, the troops began to eat dry rations, the soldiers rested in place, and some stood guard around.
The noon in September is quite cool, and the temperature drops quickly in autumn. Yang Mingzhi came to his wife's side, and he also knew that because of the needs of the war, he had to be serious these days. Isn't this a bit harsh on his wife?
"Now that it's cold, you better not take off your coat, I know you're hot."
Yang Mingzhi covered his wife's clothes, and then hugged the girl in his arms, and exaggeratedly, as a thirty-year-old man, this time he behaved like a child.
Star fruit was amused. "All right, husband, my good husband, you will hold me in your arms."
"Okay, I'll just let you go." Yang Mingzhi ordered, "You do it obediently, I'll rub your shoulders." β
Now star fruit and Natasha are like sisters, and when they hear their husbands arrange this, their sisters have to enjoy it. Yang Mingzhi shrugged, "Okay, Natasha, I'll rub your shoulders later." β
In Yang Mingzhi's opinion, his age is much worse than the two girls. Carambola is better, and it is good that husband and wife are commensurate in the last round, or they call brother and sister on weekdays. And Natasha, she is too young to be her father.
The two girls are sure to play to a major tactical advantage in the fight, like Natasha's precision shooting. While kneading the child's immature shoulders, Yang Mingzhi couldn't help but start chattering. "My Natasha, my child. When the battle begins, you play to your strengths. Hitting the driver's window of an enemy tank will blind the enemy driver, and their tank will become a giant with feet of clay. β
Natasha turned her head vigorously, compared to obeying the seizure, at this moment, it seemed that she had a new family.
Just as the three of them were getting tired, Yerenkina staggered away. "Alright, Berekov, now the play with the little ones is over. You don't have to look at me, there is a situation on the radio side, our reconnaissance company has spotted enemy troops. β
When Yang Mingzhi heard this, he immediately stood up. At the critical moment, he still had to deal with business, and he kept in touch with the reconnaissance company and got a strange message. That is, a military vehicle was found, and the goods on which it was escorted were very special - people, specifically Soviet prisoners of war.
"There are still prisoners of war?" This was beyond Yang Mingzhi's expectations. He ordered the reconnaissance company to continue to observe until the evening, when the team reached the periphery of the road.
