In fact, although the wing improvement of the J-7 was established a few years ago, the relationship between Professor Sha and the J-7 can be traced back much earlier.

In 1982, Professor Sha was already a famous teacher of Western University of Technology, as a special aviation tutor, he took his students to the 132 factory for internship, at that time, they had already found a lot of helplessness of the J-7 fighter, for example, although the nose of this fighter was replaced with new avionics, but because it was not sure, it still added more than 100 kilograms of counterweight in the nose, at the same time, the performance of the fighter is not high, especially the defects such as poor maneuverability, short range and poor take-off and landing performance at medium and low altitudes, which seriously restricts the performance of this fighter.

As an aviation educator, Professor Sha has a special affection for fighter planes, he is not an orthodox professional background, he came from the army, he used to stay in Hainan Airlines, that is, aircraft maintenance support, there, he continued to study cultural knowledge hard, and finally became a professor at Western University of Technology, it is precisely because of this experience that he also knows that for the fighter unit, they are looking forward to better aircraft.

Therefore, Professor Sha has been involved in the research of the J-7 since that time, of course, there was no scientific research funding at first, and his research was to improve the mobility of the J-7 as a topic when he took the students' graduation project.

After several years of research, Professor Sha gradually converged on the idea of improving the wing shape of the aircraft to improve the performance of the aircraft, which was affirmed by the Western University of Technology and began to enter the systematic research.

Until later, the 132 factory also made a lot of money in the foreign military aircraft trade, so it carried out a one-stop cooperation, and the 132 factory provided funds to carry out the joint operation of the factory and the school, and carried out pre-research on the improvement of the Jian-7.

Of course, there were many setbacks, but later, in 1987, the change was finally approved and became a key focus of the Air Force.

These plans for changing the wings and engines can improve the aircraft's maneuverability, range, and take-off and landing performance at medium and low altitudes, and improve the combat effectiveness of the aircraft, while also maintaining the advantages of the J-7's "lightness, smallness, flexibility, and low price."

At that time, after the successful establishment of the project, it became a model in China, which was the first time in China that enterprises and universities were successfully combined. The combination and complementarity of scientific research and production advantages, and at the same time, in accordance with the practice of research and development, the research and development of this kind of project is still based on the chief engineer system.

The project is led by Factory 132, so Tu Lao is a well-deserved chief engineer, but the deputy chief engineer, and Tu Lao strongly recommended Professor Sha to be the deputy chief engineer.

Professor Sha had never had this kind of R&D experience before, and he resigned several times, but at Tu Lao's insistence, he still took office, and soon Professor Sha found that his deputy chief engineer almost had an overview of the overall situation, and it should be that Tu Lao was still shouldering the super seven project, and Tu Lao had been running for super seven, so the J-7 E naturally fell to him, the deputy chief engineer.

In this regard, Professor Sha did not complain and threw himself wholeheartedly into his work.

Professor Sha's task is the greatest, he not only has to determine the modification plan, the overall plan demonstration, the adoption of new technologies and solve difficult problems, but also to coordinate the technical work between the factory and the research group. Moreover, Professor Sha is in school, and he has to take students to class, Professor Sha often runs back and forth, sometimes taking the train, and his legs are swollen. When he arrived at the factory in winter, until spring, he was still wearing winter clothes, because he didn't have time to change, in the past few years, for this project, he lost so much weight, but now, he is still hardworking.

Of course, it's different now, now the 611 Institute and the 132 factory have merged, and the scientific research strength of the 611 Institute is quite strong, after all, they are going to develop a new fighter, and the task volume is much larger than the wings and engines of the aircraft they change, so the 611 Institute did not participate in the research and development of this project.

After four years of their hard work, finally, the J-7E was created, although from the appearance, it has not yet departed from the shadow of the MiG-21, but its actual performance must have been improved by a notch!
