Chapter 1: Wedges

In eastern Afghanistan, on the vast and barren plateau, a mixed convoy of nearly 100 vehicles of various types is moving forward, and it can be seen from the Star-Spangled Banner logo on the body that it is a regiment-sized US military unit in motion.

At the end of the convoy, Yang Ming, a Chinese soldier, drove an M977 heavy tactical truck and followed the traffic carelessly. In Yang Ming's memory, in the two years he was in Afghanistan, there had been several such transitions of the troops, and compared with the blood and fire on the battlefield, such a huge and spectacular march could only be regarded as an outdoor sport.

The M977 heavy-duty tactical truck is the latest generation of military trucks in the U.S. military, this truck is equipped with independent suspension, permanent lubrication components and a central tire inflation and deflation system, which makes the vehicle travel more smoothly, with greater traction and ground clearance, wading depth of up to 1.5 meters, the central tire inflation and deflation system can adjust the performance of the vehicle to the best state in any driving conditions, and the permanent lubrication system ensures better performance in the field and can greatly reduce the need for maintenance.

The heavy truck driven by Yang Ming has been specially modified, equipped with double fuel tanks, and the back of the front is towed a closed cargo compartment, with a loading capacity of nearly 50 tons.

Behind the heavy truck, an H1 Humvee with five artillery crews towed behind it was an M777 light howitzer that served as the rearguard of the entire convoy. Weighing less than 4 tons, this towed ultralight howitzer looks like a mortar with recoil, but its performance is as devastating as the giant 155 howitzers. If the convoy encounters a heavy enemy attack while on the move, the M777 howitzer will be put into operational condition within a minute, and quickly play a decisive role in firepower.

Yang Ming in the cab took a puff of the cigarette in his mouth, pressed the window glass, threw out the cigarette butt, and a gust of wind rushed in through the window, and the smoky air in the cab instantly became more fresh. Suddenly, he saw through the mirror that the headlights of the H1 Humvee, which was escorting the rear of the convoy, were on, and the half-exposed, goggle-wearing machine gunner in the Humvee was waving his arms in a hurry, as if shouting something.

"Hell, who can hear what you're saying." Yang Ming muttered, and was about to turn on the tactical radio system on the car, wanting to hear what was going on - but there was no need anymore, he felt that the vision in front of him was dark, and the entire sky suddenly darkened, and above the head of the convoy, the black clouds that filled the entire sky were overwhelmingly pressed down.

Emergency braking, with the click of the ABS system, Yang Ming hugged the steering wheel tightly, and finally stopped the dozens of tons of truck before the vision was completely dark. He turned on the headlights and looked through the glass of the front windshield, a black haze, the light of the headlights swirled in the mist, as if he had encountered a cosmic black hole, and fell into the boundless abyss, unable to see any information from the outside world.

“FVCK! What's going on? Yang Ming shouted into the radio, but there was only silence on the radio, and there was no useful sound. He repeated the call again, switching channels constantly, still silent, as if the whole world had lost its voice.

After a short but long wait, no one came to knock on the window, no one came to call, and there was no gunfire outside. What the hell is going on? Yang Ming decided to get out of the car to take a look, he took a deep breath and slammed the car door open.

The dazzling sunlight shone on his face, and the whole world suddenly lit up.
