Chapter 1 The Two-Minute Error

Next Chapter

27 February 1979, Lang Son, Vietnam.

On the position crisscrossing the ravines, a green artillery of the Gate Army aimed at Lang Son not far away. On the artillery, the August 1 logo is particularly eye-catching.

Not far from the artillery position, in a camouflage-colored military tent, an old man was crouching over several desks, holding a magnifying glass to carefully observe every line on the map.

"Report Chief! The commander of the reconnaissance battalion, Zhang Wenji, came to report! ”

The person who came was a young man of about twenty years, he was not tall, but he had a Lingyun atmosphere. With a Chinese face and two sword eyebrows, it looks dignified and mighty.

"Oh, here comes our little tiger!" The chief put down his magnifying glass and looked up at the young reconnaissance battalion commander at the door.

Zhang Wenji has always been tough, and when he fights in peacetime, he is like a tiger descending the mountain unstoppably, and he can always complete the tasks assigned by his superiors. Therefore, people in the barracks gave the nickname "Tiger".

"Come on, come on, come in and sit!" The chief greeted Zhang Wenji kindly.

After Zhang Wenji came in, the orderly soldiers on the side had a cup of tea on the ground.

"Hehe, it's been a long time since I've drunk the chief's tea!" Zhang Wenji took the teacup, thanked the orderly, and said to the chief with a smile.

The chief suddenly smiled and said, "If you want to drink, just come and drink!" But you have to say it, the assigned tasks must be completed, otherwise, there will be no tea to drink, only military sticks for you to eat! ”

When Zhang Wenji heard this, he immediately stood up and gave a standard military salute: "Please ask the chief to assign tasks!" ”

The chief pressed his hand: "Oh, little tiger, don't be so serious!" Come, come! Led Zhang Wenji to the map, "Our 42nd Army is pressed north of Langshan. The enemy troops guarding Lang Son are very tenacious. Our army has organized a tentative attack, and the results have not been satisfactory. This time, I brought you Jungle Tiger to find out the distribution of enemy firepower! How, do you have confidence? ”

Zhang Wenji obviously didn't expect the task to be so heavy, he was silent for a moment, and stood up and saluted: "Report to the chief, promise to complete the task!" ”

Seeing that Zhang Wenji was so refreshing, the chief immediately raised his voice and asked again, "Are you really confident?" ”

"Yes!" Zhang Wenji replied categorically.

"Good!" Infected by Zhang Wenji's pride, the chief was also a little excited, "It's 15:25 in the afternoon, give you an hour to prepare, set off at 16:25, and touch Langshan." Whatever method you have, I have to get the location of the distribution of the fire in Lang Son. At 4 o'clock in the morning, our troops will carry out artillery shelling according to the coordinates that you have sent back. That is, you must be back by 4 a.m.! ”

"Yes! Mission completion guaranteed! Zhang Wenji said immediately. The body is straight, like a benchmark.

"Alright, let's go down and prepare!" The chief waved his hand and asked Zhang Wenji to go out.

"Yes!"

17:12. At the foot of Lang Mountain, by a nameless stream.

Dressed in camouflage uniforms and wearing army green steel caps, the scout squad secretly lurked here under the leadership of Zhang Wenji.

Overhead, a line of machine guns and mortars stood tall. They all seemed to feel the faint chill emanating from the muzzle of the gun.

Use both hands and feet, crawling slowly, trying not to attract the attention of experienced Vietnamese soldiers.

In this reconnaissance, a total of 30 people from the reconnaissance battalion were led by three people. The team led by Zhang Wenji is one of them. The other two teams were led by two company commanders with incomparable experience.

After crossing the stream, there is a slightly raised ram of earth for cover.

Finally came to the front of the earth rammer, Zhang Wenji did not take a breath, but slowly turned around and moved towards the east side of the earth rammer.

Lang Son is very large, and the Vietnamese army is well arranged, and if they do not act quickly, there will definitely not be enough time.

A group of ten people climbed over the mountains, waded through ravines, climbed over rocks, and quickly figured out the fire arrangements in the ditches on the ridges, and sent them back to the headquarters by radio.

By this time it was completely dark. Zhang Wenji raised his wrist and saw that it was 9:48 p.m. And the distribution of fire in the whole Lang Son, as well as the highest peak in the south, can be clarified.

"Let's go!" After taking a short break, nibbling on two biscuits and drinking two sips of water, Zhang Wenji continued to set off.

Ten people are like light leopards in the forest, silently skimming through the mountains.

As soon as they arrived at a valley bottom forest, the soldier at the head of the ten people suddenly paused, carefully kept his body still, made a stop gesture, and then pointed to his feet. Zhang Wenji's heart suddenly cooled, landmine, this kid stepped on a mine.

The remaining nine people lay on the ground on the spot, while Zhang Wenji crawled slowly, came to the feet of the vanguard, took out the 65-style saber, gently cut the grass, and slowly dug up the floating soil on the ground.

Finally, the mines showed their heads.

This is a Soviet-made trigger mine, which is a commonly used infantry mine. When Zhang Wenji was studying in the Soviet Union's "Spetsnaz" unit, he had an in-depth understanding of this kind of landmine. This kind of mine is not very powerful, and when it explodes, it can blow off the soldier's foot and increase the number of serious wounded enemy soldiers. Zhang Wenji carefully probed the trigger of the mine with his saber, and slowly pressed the dagger between the trigger and the soldier's feet. Take a deep breath, keep your posture the same, and signal the soldier to slowly remove his feet.

As the soldier's feet slowly moved away, Zhang Wenji's pressure on the mine gradually increased. Eventually, the soldier completely removed his feet, leaving only Zhang Wenji to hold the mine with both hands so that it would not explode.

On the other side, seeing that Zhang Wenji had successfully controlled the mine, the remaining soldiers hurriedly looked around, and finally found a stone nearly 20 meters away from them.

Pointing to the stone, a soldier slowly crawled towards it.

The process seems so long to the remainder. During this time, the soldier cleared a trigger mine and a tripping mine near the stone. After identifying a passage, the soldiers got up and moved the stones back.

Carefully covering the stone with the mine, Zhang Wenji also carefully removed the saber from the mine.

Finally, Zhang Wenji moved out of the saber.

A cadre of soldiers breathed a sigh of relief.

Zhang Wenji looked at the luminous watch on his wrist. At 10:37, nearly fifty minutes passed.

The minefield was very wide, and it took them more than an hour to get out of it.

Quickly touch the various locations that may be equipped with heavy firepower, and then quickly leave. In some areas, the defensive strength was too strong and there were many sentry posts, and Zhang Wenji did not dare to take risks at all, so he directly classified these areas as firepower strike zones.

Finally, at 3:23 a.m., Zhang Wenji and his team detected the distribution of fire in Lang Son.

However, just as they were about to return, an accident arose. Zhang Wenji found that the location of a firepower point that had been reconnoitred had changed, and the coordinates were revised again and sent back to the headquarters.

Zhang Wenji, who has more than 10 years of reconnaissance experience, immediately felt that something was wrong, and reconnoitred again along the way, and found that the firepower in several areas had been redistributed, and what made him most worried was that up to now, they had still not found the artillery positions of the Vietnamese army.

Look at the time, 3:38 a.m. Their location is still an hour's walk from the front line of our army at the foot of Lang Son.

"Give me the radio!" Zhang Wenji gave an order, "There are still 22 minutes left, our army will carry out a fire strike on the reconnaissance area, and your task now is to quickly find a safe place, and after our army begins a full-scale attack, guide the brother troops to pull out the remaining firepower points!" ”

"But battalion commander, what are you going to do?" A soldier asked in a whisper.

Zhang Wenji was stunned for a while, and only after a while did he say: "I promised the chief, I must complete the task!" But so far, the enemy artillery position has not been found, I will go alone to find the artillery position, and pass it on to the headquarters! ”

As soon as these words came out, the soldiers were suddenly a little excited: "How can you let the battalion commander run, this should be our go!" ”

"Yes, yes. The battalion commander has more important tasks, and he can't let you take risks! ”

……

"Enough! That's an order! Although Zhang Wenji was moved in his heart, he still insisted on his opinion, "Don't worry, this little thing is not difficult for me!" Don't forget who taught you all the skills! ”

"Huh!" The soldiers smiled embarrassedly and relaxed.

Zhang Wenji carried the radio on his back and walked to the highest peak.

As a rule, artillery positions are generally located in places that are conducive to firing and have a wide field of vision, and are not easily detected by enemy troops. Zhang Wenji took a fancy to the halfway point of the highest peak at a glance. Due to the large number of people in the team and the fact that climbing the mountain is easy to detect, the team has not previously reconnoitred the area.

I finally came here, and sure enough, I saw a cannon aimed at the north, and I looked at it as far as the eye could see, but in the dark night, I didn't know the depth of the position. Zhang Wenji looked at his watch, and at 3:50 a.m., he decided to probe along the artillery position.

Since it was early in the morning, most of the Vietnamese troops had already fallen asleep. Several sentries on the sentry post were also full of tiredness.

Zhang Wenji was confident that he would be able to calmly find a safe area within 10 minutes before the artillery fired. After carefully touching the artillery position, after a cursory inspection, he sent a message back to the headquarters under the cover of night and the net under a gun port in the position.

Looking at the time, 3:56, there are still four minutes, enough to leave the position.

Cautiously touched outward, but before he reached the outside of the position, he saw the northern sky, and three signal flares rose into the sky. By that, as if it were a thunderbolt, a shell fell on the position he was in.

"Damn, what's going on, isn't there still two minutes?!" Zhang Wenji saw fireballs explode not far away, and hundreds of awakened Vietnamese soldiers picked up their rifles and fled quickly.

He also joined the fleeing party, but ran alone to a trench. He knew that under such intensive shelling, it would be difficult to escape, so it was better to hide in the fortifications and wait for the shelling to pass.

During this time, he looked at the watch on his wrist, and it was 3:58 a.m.

", why is my watch two minutes slow!" Suddenly, Zhang Wenji remembered that yesterday afternoon, when he broke his left wrist with a left-handed scout, he lost, and his watch knocked on the table.

It couldn't have been this move that made the minute hand retreat a bit!

Zhang Wenji secretly shouted bad luck. However, the unfortunate one was still behind, only a cannon could be heard, and a shell exploded nearby. A huge wave of air and high-speed shrapnel lifted him off. He knew he was done.
