Interview with Alcoholic Media (2)
This article is a collated version of an interview between a reporter and a famous author, and was published in traditional print media.
1. Reporter: Why did you name the drunkard? How did you get started on the path of online writing?
Alcoholics: I was originally engaged in the commissioning of electrical equipment, and I was very afraid to drink, so I named myself an alcoholic based on the sages of the Han Dynasty.
At first, it was just a hobby, and I wrote it on BBS for fun. But in 2003, when my girlfriend went abroad, I felt very empty, so I started to try to write novels to pass the time. As a result, it was written from 2003 to 2005, and the first novel "Ming" was completed.
Then it was empty for more than two months, and the editor of the literary network asked me to write a manuscript. So he wrote a series of works that could not be called works, such as "Guidebook" and "Homeland".
2. Reporter: In addition to the rich material rewards brought to you by literary creation, what other things do you feel are very important?
Alcoholics: Online literary creation has brought me a lot of income, and at the same time, I have also made a group of friends with similar interests. There are so many flavors in life.
In addition, I take the word literature very seriously. Personally, I believe that literature bears the mission of inheriting a nation's culture. Although this view is always ridiculed, I firmly believe in it. And do not dare to treat their own works with a purely entertaining mentality. I always felt that in a few years, my son, or daughter, or son's son, daughter's daughter would see what I was now, and I would have to be worthy of them.
3. Reporter: Most of the themes of your works are mainly fantasy, is it because of your own hobby or for other reasons? Do you think fantasy novels will become the future trend of online literature?
Alcoholic: It's not just a hobby, but a lack of pen power. I also hope that I can write "Brothers" and "White Deer Plain", but my personal experience, understanding of society, and writing are not up to that point, so I can only start from the easiest and constantly ask myself to improve.
The biggest benefit of fantasy works is that they have a wide audience and are easily accepted by readers. If I were to write serious and realistic works now, I would definitely not be able to write them. That takes time and ability.
4. Reporter: Many online writers have turned to the path of traditional literary creation after becoming famous, what do you think of this phenomenon? Do you have any plans to do this?
Alcoholic: After becoming famous, turning to traditional literature was the path of an early online writer. Now, some developed countries advocate that traditional literary works be printed as books at any time. In fact, it is the networked development of traditional literature. Personally, I don't think it's right to artificially separate online literature from traditional literature. He is just a different carrier, and his essence and mission are very consistent.
So, I wanted to be rooted in the web, but with traditional publishing. It's a bit of a hope, but I'll try my best.
5. Reporter: Do your characters have a shadow of you in real life?
Alcoholic: There is no shadow of me personally. But there are many people my age. For example, the first volume of "Homeland", Grassland Life, is based on some of my experiences in Inner Mongolia. In particular, the customs of the shepherds in the novel are almost completely detached from reality.
And Wu Anguo, the main character in another book, is a synthesis of several of my classmates in college. I combined the strengths of several of them to create a relatively perfect illusory character.
6. Reporter: The prosperity of online literature must be what you want to see, but it is undeniable that because of its grassroots characteristics, there are low-level kitsch phenomena in some online literary works, what do you think about this? What do you think are the fundamental problems in the development of online literature?
Alcoholics: Personally, I believe that demand determines supply. Low-grade kitsch is actually a commercial method. When the audience's taste slowly improves, the work can no longer be low-level. It's a step-by-step process. But not all readers like low-grade kitsch, and some readers have high tastes. When they become the main body of consumption, low-level works will naturally be eliminated.
In addition, hierarchical management and guidance are also necessary. Films in Western countries are divided into many levels. Some can only be put in the middle of the night, and some can only be seen by being over eighteen years old. When the person who provided the work found that his work was limited to a special time and a specific place to meet the public because of its low style, he naturally began to restrain his behavior.
At this stage, I think there are two main categories of problems that threaten the survival of online literature. The first category is the protection of copyright and creative rights. Web writers derive their main income from reader subscriptions, while pirates take nearly half of their income. Seriously hit the author's creative enthusiasm. In addition, some later writers copied other people's works and copied other people's ideas, but they were full of words, and even Li Ghost beat Li Kui, which made people very helpless. In the long run, everyone will lose the motivation to create.
Second, there is the issue of management. Online literature needs to be guided and standardized, but it is afraid that people will interfere too much, which will affect its grassroots nature. If the threshold of online literature is raised to the same level as traditional literature, it may lead to its direct stifling.
7. Reporter: What are your plans for your literary career?
Alcoholic: Strive to be qualified to pay tribute to Mr. Yu Hua within 20 years.
8. Reporter: What do you think is the biggest difference between online literature and traditional literature? Where is their compatibility?
Alcoholic: As I said earlier, the biggest difference is actually the different carriers, and the essence of their missions is exactly the same. They all belong to the category of literature, and Suri's current online literature is very rough, but the seed will always grow into a big tree one day. In the process of its growth, all the advantages of traditional literature, it will slowly absorb and slowly develop. And because it has no threshold, does not need to please the editor's taste, and does not need to be approved by the book number, it may go further than traditional literature.
