Chapter 45: Han Sui

Speaking of Han Sui. You may not know much about him.

Han Sui's words are about. A native of Jincheng County, Liangzhou. Han Sui was a warlord in the late Eastern Han Dynasty. One of the famous generals of the Three Kingdoms. He fought in the northwest for many years.

Han Sui's original name was Han Yue, and later changed his name to Han Sui.

So why did Han Sui change his name?

There's a story to that too.

Han Sui's real name is Han Yue, and the word is about it.

In November of the first year of Zhongping (184). The Qiang people in the northwest rebelled against Beigong Boyu. and took Bian Yun, who was engaged in Liangzhou at the time, and Han Yue, who was engaged in Liangzhou, as hostages. I don't give it back.

Later, the Qiang people attacked Ayang County in the northwest and could not break through. At this time, the rebel Qiang turned to attack Jincheng County. and killed Chen Yi, the Taishou of Jincheng County, and the Qiang people wanted to coerce Bian Yun, and Han Yue joined the gang. and elected Bian Yun as the leader.

At this time, Bian Yun led the army to fight for the Qiang people. And the Liangzhou assassin Shi Zuochang, who was defending the city, asked Gai Xun for help. Gai Xun arrived with reinforcements and reprimanded Bian Yun and Han Yue for betraying the imperial court. At this time, Bian Yun and Han Yue both said: "If you had come earlier, we would not have fallen into such a fate." Now we are too guilty to surrender. ”

After Bian Yun and Han Yue finished speaking, Bian Yun and Han Yue left crying. And stopped the siege. Instead, they went to attack the territory of the Qiang people. After this, Bian Yun changed his name to Bian Zhang, and Han Yue also changed his name to Han Sui at this time. It has the meaning of "chapter sui".

It turned out that Han Sui's name came from like this.

Later, in 185 AD, he was no longer a warlord of the imperial court. Bian Zhang and Han Sui raised troops in Liangzhou to make trouble.

At this time, Emperor Ling of Han sent the left chariot cavalry general Huangfu Song and Zhonglang general Dong Zhuo to conquer. But neither of them could beat Bian Zhang and Han Sui.

So Emperor Ling of Han replaced Huangfu Song. Send another heavyweight, the general Zhang Wen (subordinate to Tao Qian, Sun Jian, etc.).

Such a rotation worked wonders. Zhang Wen, a general who is good at fighting, and Dong Zhuo, who is good at playing scoundrels, really defeated Han Sui and Bian Zhang's army with a strategy and beheaded a thousand people.

Han Sui can be said to have come out to make trouble all his life. and against the powerful forces of the time.

In the fourth year of Zhongping (187), Bian Zhang killed Beigong Boyu and others. More than 100,000 soldiers. Began to attack Longxi. Establish a kingdom with Ma Teng and others.

Hanyang people kingdom. Calling himself the General of the United States. Because of the alliance with Han Sui and others. Surrounded Hanyang. Later, Ma Teng and Han Sui supported him.

In November of the fifth year of Zhongping (188), the kingdom led an army to besiege Chencang. At this time, Emperor Ling sent Huangfu Song and Dong Zhuo to lead 20,000 horses each to resist.

In February of the sixth year of Zhongping (189), the kingdom had been encircling Chencang for more than 80 days. However, because the city is strong, it has not been able to break through the city.

At this time, Huangfu Song took the opportunity to send out a surprise army to pursue the kingdom army. The result was a big win. More than 10,000 people were beheaded.

After the defeat of the kingdom, it was abolished by Han Sui and Ma Teng.

And the army must not be left without an owner for a day. Han Sui and Ma Teng coerced the former Xindu County Commander, and Yan Zhong, a famous scholar from Liangzhou, served as the leader and commanded the various departments. Because Yan Zhong had no choice but to make him the leader. He also knew Han Sui, Ma Teng's tiger and wolf heart. So during his time as a leader, he eventually died of dissatisfaction and resentment.

After Yan Zhong's death, Han Sui and others were still fighting for power and profit. Then they attack and kill each other. so that the power gradually weakened.

In the second year of Chuping (191), Dong Zhuo entered Chang'an and invited Han Sui and Ma Teng to jointly plan an attack on the generals of Shandong. The two of them saw that the world was already in chaos at this time. They also wanted to rely on Dong Zhuo to raise troops.

In the third year of the first peace (192). Han Sui and Ma Tengbei Dong Zhuo were recruited to Chang'an. Later, after Dong Zhuo was killed by LΓΌ Bu, in June, Han Sui and Ma Teng could only surrender. They led the crowd to proclaim themselves to the court at that time.

At that time, the imperial court was under the control of Li Dao and others. Li Wei appointed General Zhenxi and moved to Liangzhou. Ma Teng is the general of Ren Zhengxi. The garrison is in Meixian County, Shaanxi.

In March of the first year of Xingping (194), Chang'an was in turmoil. Han Sui and Ma Teng took the opportunity to attack Li Dao and others in Chang'an, while Li Dao sent Fan Chou, Guo Yan and others to attack Ma Teng, Han Sui, and the two. The two were later defeated. More than 10,000 horses were killed and wounded. Later, Han Sui and Ma Teng fled back to Liangzhou. Han Sui was later named General Anjiang.

In 195, Fan Chou led troops to pursue Han Sui and others. Fan Chou led his troops to chase him all the way to Chencang's place. At this time, Han Sui came up with a trick. Han Sui sent someone to find Fan Chou to spread the word.

The people of Han Sui faction impressed Fan Chou with their friendship with their fellow villagers. So Fan Chou stopped chasing and killing Han Sui and others.

197 years. Xun Yu made a statement to Cao Cao, saying that Guanzhong belonged to Han Sui, and Ma Teng was the most powerful, and they should be persuaded to submit.

So, Cao Cao asked Zhong Xuan to send a letter to Ma Teng, Han Sui and others. State the pros and cons for them. Ma Teng and Han Sui all obeyed. Moreover, they showed their sincerity. Ma Teng and Han Sui both sent one of their sons to the court as a hostage.

After that, Ma Teng and Han Sui became brothers. Later, because the soldiers of his subordinates attacked each other. The two turned against each other. Ma Teng began to attack Han Sui. Han Sui was defeated and fled. Han then attacked Ma Teng. Killed Ma Teng's wife and child. And continue to fight with Maten. Cao Cao encountered this situation. He sent Sili Lieutenant Zhong Xuan and others to reconcile Ma Teng and Han Sui.

Later, in 208 A.D. After Ma Teng entered the imperial court. Ma Teng's son, Ma Chao, commanded Ma Teng's subordinates. When Zhou Yu and Sun Quan talked about the situation in the world, they said that the northwest warlord Ma Chao was always hated by Cao Cao.

In the fourteenth year of Jian'an (209), Han Sui sent his son-in-law Yan Xing to visit Cao Cao. Yan Xing arrived at Cao Cao's. Immediately received favor from Cao Cao. And the court above granted Yan Xing the title of Taishou of Qian.

Yan Xing saw that Cao Cao treated himself so well. took the opportunity to ask his father (Han Sui) to serve in the court.

It seems that after Han Sui saw Ma Teng enter the court, Han Sui himself also wanted to enter the court as an official. Don't want to be a zigzag warlord of the Northwest anymore.

Later, after Yan Xing went back, he saw Han Sui. Yan Xing told him what Cao Cao had said about persuading Han Sui to enter the court. He also took the opportunity to persuade Han Sui to join Cao Cao, and persuaded him to send a son to the court as a hostage.

At this time, Han Sui hesitated. Xiang Yan Xing replied, "Let's wait and see for a few more years!" Later, Han Sui, who had been thinking about it for a long time, finally agreed to send his son to the court with Yan Xing's parents.

Later, in the fifteenth year of Jian'an (210), Han Sui personally led the army to defeat Zhang Meng, the Wuwei Taishou who had previously killed the Yongzhou assassin Shi Handan Shang and rebelled.

Han Sui personally crusaded against Zhang Meng. and left Yan Xing to guard the old camp.

At this time, Zhang Meng sent troops to the east to resist. His officials and people were afraid of Han Sui. So they attacked Zhang Meng together. Zhang Meng saw that the situation was tense at this time. So Zhang Meng climbed the tower. Died of self-immolation.

In March of the sixteenth year of Jian'an (211), Cao Cao sent Zhong Xuan and Xiahou Yuan to jointly conquer Zhang Lu in Hanzhong.

Here's the thing, Cao Cao first asked Zhong Xuan to crusade against Zhang Lu. and let Xiahou Yuan and others lead the army out of Hedong to join forces with Zhong Xuan.

And at this moment, Ma Chao, Han Sui and others were suspicious. Han Sui and Ma Chao, Hou Xuan, Cheng Yin, Yang Qiu, Li Kan, Zhang Heng, Liang Xing, Cheng Yi, and Ma Play a total of nine people intended to rebel. and together they rose up against Cao.

These nine tribes jointly elected Han Sui as the governor.

At this time, Han Sui had just leveled Zhang Meng and returned to the division. Ma Chao persuaded Han Sui to join the army.

It seems that the rebellion is a ghost idea that Ma Chao came up with.

After Yan Xing learned about the rebellion, he immediately advised Han Sui. I don't want him to unite with Ma Chao. But Han Sui did not listen to Yan Xing's advice. Yan Xing left helplessly.

So, the army led by Han Sui went east to Huayin. The army led by Han Sui, known as the 100,000 army, marched and was stationed in Tongguan.

In July, Cao Cao led a large army to the west. Confrontation with Han Sui and Ma Chao's coalition forces.

So, Cao Cao joined forces with Han Sui and Ma Chao. The Battle of Tongguan broke out.

Finally, the battle of Tongguan. Cao Cao succeeded in separating Han Sui and Ma Chao according to Jia Xu's strategy, and the coalition was defeated. Ma Chao fled to Zhang Lu in Hanzhong. Han Sui fled to Liangzhou.

In May of the seventeenth year of Jian'an (212), Cao Cao killed all the descendants of Han Sui who remained in the capital as hostages.

Later, Cao Cao also wrote a letter to Yan Xing in person. The letter said that Yan Xing's father was being held. and threatened Yan Xing with Han Sui and other rebels.

And Han Sui, who was far away in Liangzhou, heard that Yan Xing's father was still alive. Han Sui wanted his father to be killed together. In this way, Yan Xing can strengthen his will to collude with Han Sui and others.

So Han Sui forcibly married his youngest daughter to Yan Xing, and Yan Xing had no choice but to marry Han Sui's daughter. At this time, Cao Cao really suspected that Shang Yan Xing.

The first month of the eighteenth year of Jian'an (213). Han Sui had the problem of fighting for land because of Xiahou Yuan. Han Sui went to war with Xiahou Yuan. Later, Xiahou Yuan defeated Han Sui's army. Han was defeated.

In the nineteenth year of Jian'an (214). Han Sui in the far northwest. Ordered Yan Xing not to lead the Xiping County that was given to Yan Xing in the imperial court. As a result, Yan Xing quit. He defected to Han Sui. Cut off all ties. Prepare for war with Han Sui.

Han Sui was extremely frustrated when he encountered this situation. I originally planned to retreat from Qiang to Shu. Attached to Liu Bei. But Han Sui's confidant Cheng Gongying opposed Han Sui's approach. He believes that Han Sui has been in the army for many years. Now though it has failed. However, they cannot give up the base they have established in Xizhou and switch to others.

After hearing this, Han Sui asked Cheng Gongying, "Then what should I do?" ”

Cheng Gongying proposed to Han Sui to hide in the Qiang tribe first and recruit his subordinates. Wait for the opportunity to make a comeback.

Han Sui also agreed to Cheng Gongying's strategy. said to Cheng Gongying: "Now it can only be like this." ”

As a result, Han Sui and thousands of followers retreated to the Qiang, and because Han Sui had been kind to the Qiang people before, he was protected by the Qiang people.

In the twentieth year of Jian'an (215), Xiahou Yuan returned to Hanzhong. Yan Xing was left behind. At this time, Han Sui gathered tens of thousands of Qianghu soldiers and attacked Yan Xing. Soon after, Han Sui fell ill and died.

In fact, there is another version of Han Sui's death.

This is when Han Sui was in Jincheng, he was killed by his subordinates Koji Yan and Jiang Shi.

Later, these two men dedicated Han Sui's head to Cao Cao.

In this way, a generation of great warlords in the northwest, Han Sui, disappeared into the long sky of history.

Throughout Han Sui's life. Han Sui always turned against the imperial court at that time. In the end, he died a desolate death by the sword of his subordinates.
