Chapter 21: Guan Yu and Cao Cao's Affairs

After Cao Cao killed Dong Cheng, he began to attack Liu Bei.

After Liu Bei was defeated by Cao Cao, he fled to Yuan Shao's tent, and Liu Bei's wife and children were captured.

Cao Cao attacked Pi, and Guan Yu surrendered. Cao Cao returned to Guandu. Yuan Shao did not send troops.

After Dong Cheng was killed, Cao Cao knew that Liu Bei was also involved in the conspiracy, so he led an army of 200,000 and divided his troops into five ways to kill Xuzhou. Liu Bei sent someone to ask Yuan Shao for help, but Yuan Shao was reluctant to send troops because his youngest son was sick and dying. only promised Liu Bei that he could defect to him when he was unsatisfied.

Cao Cao's soldiers approached the city of Xiaopei. Liu Bei listened to Zhang Fei's words and divided his troops to go to Cao Ying to rob the village overnight, but Cao Cao had taken the lead in setting up an ambush. Liu Jun was killed and defeated. Liu Bei went to Yuan Shao, and Zhang Fei fled to Mangdang Mountain.

Cao Cao captured Xiaopei and Xuzhou, and wanted to capture Pi, but Guan Yu couldn't hold out. Cheng Yu said: "Guan Yu is extremely brave, and he can't attack under the wing. We can send the surrendered soldiers under Liu Bei into Xiapi City to make internal responses, so that we can capture Xiapi. ”

So, Cao Cao adopted Cheng Yu's strategy and sent dozens of troops to Xiapicheng to join Guan Yu. When Guan Yu saw that they were all Liu Bei's old soldiers, he didn't think much about it and left them behind.

The next day, Xiahoudun led the troops to challenge, but Guan Yu was still closed. Xiahoudun sent people to insult him under the city. Guan Yu was furious, led 3,000 men and horses out of the city, and fought with Xiahoudun. Xiahou fought and left, Guan Yu chased for about twenty miles, worried that Xiapi would make a mistake, and returned with troops.

Xu Huang and Xu Chu each led a team of men and horses to intercept Guan Yu's way, Guan Yu grabbed the road and left, and the ambush soldiers on both sides released arrows together, and the arrows were like flying locusts. Guan Yu couldn't get through, so he went back to kill Xu Huang and Xu Chu, and led the army to return to Xiapi, but was intercepted and killed by Xiahoudun.

After fighting until the evening, Guan Yu saw that there was no way out, so he had to lead the soldiers up a dirt mountain. Tushan was surrounded by Cao's army, and Guan Yu looked at it from afar on the mountain, and saw the flames in the city of Xiapi. It turned out that the soldiers who had surrendered to Cao Cao had stolen open the city gates. Cao Cao personally led the army into the city and ordered the soldiers to raise fire to confuse Guan Yu.

Guan Yu saw that Picheng was on fire, and he was terrified, and rushed down the mountain several times overnight, but he was shot back by random arrows. When it was almost dawn, Guan Yu wanted to rush down the mountain again, but saw a person riding a horse running towards the mountain, and when he got closer, it turned out to be Zhang Liao.

Zhang Liao came to persuade Guan Yu to surrender to Cao Cao. Guan Yu thought twice and agreed to surrender, but there were three chapters of the offer: first, only the Han Dynasty, not Cao Cao; second, use Liu Bei's Yulu to raise two sisters-in-law; Third, once you know Liu Bei's whereabouts, you have to look for him.

This is the famous Guan Yu Tushan about three things.

Cao Cao admired Guan Yu's personality very much and accepted his conditions. Guan Yu protected Liu Bei's two wives and went to Xudu with Cao Cao. On the way, Cao Cao deliberately let Guan Yu live in the same room with his two sisters-in-law. Guan Yu held a candle in one hand and a knife in the other, fighting outdoors all night. Seeing this, Cao Cao became more and more convinced.

Guan Yu surrendered to Cao Cao. This is not a failed experience for Guan Yu. It's a transition. Because Cao Cao shifted the entire military focus to Yuan Shao's side.

It is natural that Guan Yu can't defend Xiapi. Because in that case at the time. There is no other way not to surrender. You can't fight to the death with Cao Cao, Guan Yu's surrender is still a wise choice. Especially before Guan Yu surrendered, he had three things to do with Zhang Liaotushan. It can also be seen that Guan Yu's loyalty is rare.

After Guan Yu surrendered, what did he do for Cao Cao? Please follow below.

After Guan Yu surrendered to Cao Cao, what did he do for Cao Cao?

How did Cao Cao treat Guan Yu?

It is said that since Guan Yu surrendered to Cao Cao, Cao Cao gave Guan Yu a small banquet on three days and a big banquet on five days, and sent countless beauties and gold and silver treasures. Guan Yu asked the beauty to serve her sister-in-law, handed over her belongings to her sister-in-law for safekeeping, and treated her sister-in-law extremely respectfully, and went to her sister-in-law's house every three days to say hello.

Cao Cao gave Lu Bu's red rabbit horse to Guan Yu. Guan Yu thanked him again and again. said that with this thousand-mile horse, once you know the whereabouts of your eldest brother Liu Bei, you can see him sooner. When Cao Cao heard this, he regretted it very much.

From the above, it can be seen how good Cao Cao is to Guan Yu. And Guan Yu's red rabbit horse turned out to be Lu Bu's red rabbit horse.

And all this didn't last long, because Yuan Shao began to attack Cao Cao at this time.

February 200. Yuan Shao sent Guo Tu, Zhuo Yuqiong, Yan Liang and others to attack Liu Yan of Baima, wanting to cross the Yellow River on his own side. Fu Zhi said to Yuan Shaojin that Yan Liang was narrow-minded, and although he was brave and good at fighting, he could not let him take on the big responsibility alone. Yuan Shao didn't listen to him.

In April, Cao Cao sent troops to rescue the white horse that had been attacked. Xun You said: "Now that our army has very few troops, it is not suitable to attack, it is better to disperse the enemy's forces first, and it is possible to win." Cao Cao took his advice.

So, Cao Cao led his troops north across the Yellow River, pretending to attack the rear of the enemy army. Yuan Shao really divided his troops and marched westward, and Cao Cao saw this situation and hurried to Baima.

When they were more than ten miles away, Yan Liang, who learned of the situation, was shocked and immediately attacked.

Since Cao Cao captured Guan Yu, he treated him very well and appointed him as a partial general. Cao Cao wanted to leave Guan Yu behind and let Zhang Liao go to fight. Guan Yu said: "I know that you have a deep friendship with me Gong Cao, but I am deeply favored by General Liu, and I vow to die together and cannot be violated. In order to repay Cao Gong's kindness to me. I can't stay, I have to go and save my life. Cao Cao thought this was a sign of Guan Yu's loyalty. So, Cao Cao sent Zhang Liao and Guan Yu as the vanguard to fight.

Guan Yu saw Yan Liang's banner and car cover, so he rode his horse and galloped in the army to kill Yan Liang, and took his head back. None of Yuan Shao's first gang of generals could fight against Guan Yu, and Guan Yu lifted the siege of the White Horse.

After that, Cao Cao appointed Guan Yu as the Marquis of Hanshou Pavilion.

In "Romance", Yan Liang first killed Lu Bu's generals Song Xian and Wei Xu, and then fought with Xu Huang Zhong Bo, which was wonderful and vivid. After Guan Yu saw Yan Liang, he said that taking his head was like probing for something, so he rode into the battle and killed Yan Liang with one sword. In the romance, Wen Chou and Yan Liang are sworn brothers, Wen Chou beat Zhang Liao off the horse, and repelled Xu Huang, and finally was killed by Guan Yu after Yan Liang was killed. This is the famous "beheading the face and the goodness of the ugly". In the official history, Guan Yu only killed Yan Liang, but not Wen Chou. In "Romance", when Guan Yu went back to find Liu Bei later, the plot of passing five levels and killing six generals was widely known.

However, there is no corresponding record in the official history of the Three Kingdoms.

So how did Wen Chou die?

It is said that Cao Cao's army marched west along the Yellow River, and Yuan Shao crossed the river and pursued it with great vigour, reaching the south of Yanjin. Hanshita set up camp to be on guard, and heard reports that "there were five or six hundred cavalry," "there were quite a lot of cavalry," and "there were countless infantrymen." Cao Cao said that there was no need to report again, and sent cavalry to fetch the saddle and prepare the horses.

At this time, the baggage finally arrived. The generals said that the enemy cavalry was numerous, and it was better to retreat to the barracks. Xun You said: "This is the art of luring the enemy." Wen Chou, Liu Bei led five or six thousand cavalry to sneak attack. The enemy cavalry reinforcements scattered and attacked the baggage, and Cao Cao defeated the enemy army with less than 600 cavalry and beheaded Wen Chou. Yan Liang and Wen Chou were both famous generals under Yuan Shao's account, but they were killed by the generals of Cao Jun twice in the battle, and Yuan Shao's army was greatly shocked. Cao Cao returned to Guandu, and Yuan Shao then defended Yangwu. Guan Yu returned to Liu Bei's side.

What does this mean?

It was after the Battle of White Horse that Yuan Shao relied on the strength of the crowd and prepared for a decisive battle with Cao Cao. After Yuan Shao led his army to the south of Yanjin, he ordered Wen Chou to be the vanguard and launched an attack on Cao's army. Cao Cao ordered his soldiers to pile up their wagons on the road, creating the illusion of abandoning the city and fleeing. Yuan Jun didn't know what to do, and when he saw the military supplies piled up on the side of the road, he rushed to grab them, and they became a mess. Cao Cao saw that Yuan's army was scheming, so he led his army to rush into the enemy formation, Yuan's army was defeated, and Wen Chou was killed in the chaos. Wen Chou and Yan Liang were famous generals under Yuan Shao, and the killing of these two greatly affected the morale of Yuan Jun.

This is the famous incident in the history of the Three Kingdoms. Events that preceded the Battle of Cao Yuan Guandu.

Yan Liang was killed by Guan Yu, this is a fact. But Wen Chou is not necessarily killed by Guan Yu. Wen Chou was killed in the chaos of the army. Later, Guan Yu insisted on leaving Cao Cao. Go find Liu Bei. On the way, the plot of "passing five levels and killing six generals" was derived.
