Chapter 83: The Birth of Comics
Whether it's comics or animation, the most important test is art skills.
As far as comics are concerned, the first thing is to test the artistry of the comic author. First of all, the characters and pictures should be good-looking, so that they can attract people. In addition, the overall style should be unified, especially this kind of serialized comics.
And the last one, that's the line requirements. It can be said that manga has stricter requirements for lines than animation, so this requires the comic author's hand to be strong.
A good line, first of all, it should be beautiful, and secondly, it should be elastic and not rigid. The so-called elasticity of lines is not only required in animation majors, but also in Chinese painting, and even in Western sketches (sketches).
The white drawing technique in Chinese painting, the elasticity of the line or the sense of rhythm in the sketch sketch, these are all specific requirements for the line. Domestic animation also inherits these two aspects, so it also has very high requirements for animation, especially the lines of flat two-dimensional animation.
In the past, some of the classic traditional animations made in China by art studios were drawn by artists with brushes on the SEG frame (chapter) by frame.
Normally, 24 frames is one second, although it will vary depending on the actual situation, but the animation we see is the sum of the seconds and seconds.
And so many frames drawn by these artists, with a random stitch, are all a beautiful picture.
It is also because of this that the painter is very good at brushing. The grace of its lines is still a model for many animation majors, or film and television majors, to copy frame by frame when practicing lines.
Not only in our country, Japanese comics and animation, especially the main two-dimensional animation, also pay great attention to the use of lines. It is also a representative of line style comics and animation, which is very different from the Western realist style.
If it is a traditional paper to draw comics, Han Li's kung fu will definitely not work. Although he also practiced lines when he was in college in his previous life, his main focus in the future was in 3D technology. So gradually, the work in his hands was lost.
However, if paperless painting is used, that is, computer software painting, then Han Li is confident that he can do this.
First of all, the style of the manga and animation of "That Rabbit" is biased towards the cartoon style of young age. The line is relatively smooth, which is what we often call an iron wire (a technical term, a smooth line), and there are not too many requirements. So in this way, the difficulty of drawing is reduced a lot.
However, even though it is a smooth line, it is not something that can be drawn casually. It's easy to draw a smooth line, but it's hard to draw a picture in your head with such a smooth line.
In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to use special line drawing software. Although you can also use professional painting or image production software such as PS or painter, Han Li still chooses SAI, a very compact painting software.
Although SAI is not as powerful as PS or painter, it has the advantage of being better than the first two software in terms of drawing lines.
Through the pen tablet, Han Li's strokes on the pen tablet will be displayed on SAI's drawing paper in real time.
First of all, he has to draw the general plot of each chapter according to the previously drawn storyboards. You don't need to be too detailed, you just need to draw a rough outline and recognize it yourself.
The next step is the draft, which requires Han Li to draw them one by one. In the draft, you can ignore the lines, and just draw the corresponding picture. This is probably the most difficult and time-consuming part of the entire drawing process. Moreover, the entire picture layout, character relationships, and painting style will be expressed, which is the most important stage.
After the draft is completed, it will be revised accordingly until it meets the requirements of Han Li's heart. Once all the revisions are finalized, the next step is to draw the line.
Create a new blank layer on top of the original layer, and adjust the transparency and dodge of the original layer. Next, Han Oak needs to draw lines in a blank layer according to the image on the dodge layer. The requirements for the lines are relatively high, the lines must be smooth and coherent, and there can be no different thicknesses, intermittent breaks, ink spots, and different shades.
This is not the final step, it needs to be traced again on this line, or even more, until the whole picture, the line has reached the requirements.
And this is just a line drawing, and the next step is to color black and white on this line drawing, which is called gray draft. After the gray draft is completed, the color is added, which is called the color draft.
The next step is very different from paper drawing comics, which is also the advantage of software drawing. That is, it can not be limited to the number of grids and related layouts when drawing comics on paper, and it is not limited to fixed size drawing.
Because it is computer drawing, Han Li only needs to typeset the drawn picture according to the previously drawn storyboards and scripts.
When all is done, fill in the text on the comic screen. These additional words may be some plot descriptions, or they may be some modal words or adjectives. The former can be typed out directly according to the normal typesetting. The latter, on the other hand, needs to be designed accordingly. And this involves another knowledge, that is, font design.
The so-called font design, as the name suggests, is to design the font. The most common ones are all kinds of signs, or signatures, which are all within the scope of font design. In the comics, the font design of some modal words, verbs and adjectives can better set off the plot and play a very good rendering atmosphere.
After all is done, there is one last piece of work, which is the secret mark or mark. Every comic book writer or painter leaves a unique mark on his or her paintings. This mark is not visible to ordinary people, only the author and some careful people can find it, but it has nothing to do with the elegance of the work.
This is done for the sake of authorship on the one hand, and on the other hand, for the sake of anti-theft. Regardless of whether it is ancient or apparent, there are too many people who imitate or impersonate these calligraphy and painting works. So after a long time, everyone has such a habit.
Han Li's mark is a 'Ge' character, which is relatively rare, so it is easy to hide in the lines. It is difficult for ordinary people to find it if they don't pay attention or don't know about it.
You still have to guard against it, especially online. If you don't leave a little behind, it is really difficult to maintain copyright on the Internet.
