Wei Zheng "Ten Thoughts of Emperor Taizong"
In yesterday's chapter, some readers said that the ancient text could not be understood, thinking that I was cheating on the number of words, and I thought that the whole translation was too long, so I put it in the relevant works.
Actually, my ancient text is even worse, so I copied this famous note. This can be regarded as a typical representative of the struggle for power between the civil servants and the emperor.
When the ministers hear about the elders of the wood, they will consolidate their roots; Those who want to flow far will dredge their springs; Those who think about the safety of the country will accumulate their virtues. The source is not deep and looks far away, the roots are not solid and seek the length of the wood, the virtue is not thick and the peace of the country, although the minister is stupid, he knows that he can't, and the situation is clear? When the king is the weight of the artifact, the big one in the domain, he does not think of danger in peace, abstains from luxury and frugality, and cuts down the roots to seek Mu Mao, and wants to flow long.
Where the head of a hundred yuan, inherit the destiny of the sky, the beginning is really complicated, and the end is widowed. Is it easy to take, but difficult to keep? Cover in sorrow, and will be wholeheartedly waiting; Vested ambition, then indulge in pride. Wholeheartedly, then Wu and Yue are one; If you are proud, then your flesh and bones are the way. Although Dong Zhi was severely punished, and he was intimidated, he was finally spared without benevolence, and he was respectful but not convinced. The grievance is not big, but it is terrifying, and it is advisable to be cautious.
If you can see what you want, then you can think and know enough to abstain from self-discipline; If there will be something to do, then thinking and knowing will stop to appease people; Thinking of high danger, then thinking of humility and self-shepherding; If you are afraid of overflowing, you will think of the rivers and seas; Lepan tour, then think of three drives as a degree; If you are slack, you will be cautious and respect the end; If you are worried, you will think humbly to accept it; If you are afraid of slander and evil, you will think of righteousness and dethrone evil; If you add grace, you will think without a cause and enjoy the fallacy; If the punishment is reached, there is no indiscriminate punishment out of anger. In total, ten thoughts, nine virtues. If you can do it simply, and choose the good and follow it, the wise will do their best, the brave will do their best, the benevolent will spread their benefits, and the believers will be loyal. Use both civil and military, and rule by vertical arch. Why bother thinking hard and serving on behalf of the hundred divisions!
Translations:
If you want a tree to grow, you must stabilize its roots; If you want the spring water to flow far, you must dredge its source; If we want the country to be stable, we must accumulate morality and righteousness.
Although I want the spring to flow far away when the source is not deep, I want the trees to grow when the roots are not stable, and I want the country to be stable though I am not morally strong, although I am the most ignorant and know that it is impossible, let alone a wise man.
The king, who holds the important powers of the state and holds an important position between heaven and earth, does not consider danger in a comfortable environment, abstains from luxury, and acts frugally, which is like cutting off the roots of a tree to make the trees flourish, blocking the source and wanting the spring to flow far away.
All monarchs have inherited the great mission given by God, and there are many who have done well at the beginning, but very few have been able to maintain it to the end. Is it easy to get the world, but difficult to keep the world? Because in the midst of deep sorrow, he will treat his subjects with all sincerity. If you have succeeded, you will indulge your emotions to be proud of others.
If you do your best, you will unite the hostile forces (and yourself) and be proud of others, and you will make your relatives strangers. Although it is possible to supervise (people) with harsh punishments, to frighten (people) with majesty and anger, (people) are ultimately spared from punishment but will not be grateful to Dade, outwardly respectful but inwardly unconvinced. Resentment is not big or small, only the common people are terrible; It is to be deeply cautious that they can carry ships and subvert them.
If you can really do it: when you see what you like, you think of contentment and self-restraint; Whatever is to be built, let us think of what is appropriate to bring peace to the people; When you think that your position is high and full of crises, you must not forget to be humble to (strengthen) self-cultivation;
Afraid of being complacent, he thought of being able to accommodate thousands of rivers like rivers and seas; If you love hunting, you want to keep one side of the net; Worried about slackening of will, I thought that I should be cautious from the beginning to the end; Afraid of being deceived, he thought of humbly adopting the opinions of his subordinates;
Afraid of those who speak ill of him, he thinks of rejecting wicked villains by straightening up his own morals; To bestow grace, consider not to reward unduly for the sake of momentary pleasure. When punishment is used, it is necessary to think not to abuse it because of a moment of anger.
If we do these ten things that should be pondered in an all-round way, carry forward the cultivation of the "Nine Virtues", select and appoint talented people, and select good opinions and listen to them, then the wise man will be able to fully dedicate his strategy, the brave man will be able to fully exercise his strength, the loving man will be able to spread his favor, and the honest man will be able to offer his loyalty;
Wenchen and military generals are appointed together, and if they don't personally handle government affairs, the world can be governed well. Why do you have to work hard to replace the duties of the hundred officials?
(The old demon is sparse, so I can only copy one copy for everyone to see.) Update the next chapter now)
