Chapter 106: White Knight
When Eva received an invitation from Blackstone, she almost threw it in the wastebasket. Eva is now on fire with the capitalists on Wall Street. Now even a small company that has never heard of her dares to make fun of her.
"Are you really missing them?" Eva's personal assistant crouched down to pick up the invitation on the floor, and glanced at the signature on it easily. Then he reminded Eva: "Boss, I'm afraid we can't refuse this invitation"
"Why?" Eva, who had calmed down, asked curiously. Her secretary had always been obedient to Eva, and rarely raised objections.
"I know this Mr. Pete Peterson, who is an alumnus of MIT, but he graduated from Northwestern University and served as Secretary of Commerce under President Nixon. I was able to complete my studies on a scholarship from Mr. Peterson! Eva's assistant is a graduate of MIT's Sloan School of Business Administration, she is a shrewd, beautiful resume, and capable, and she is simply a personal contact book, Eva has always taken her with her all these years, and whenever she attends various events Eva can't call the other party's name, her assistant can always accurately tell the other party's identity.
Hearing the assistant talk about Pete Peterson's political resume, Eva put away her arrogance and dissatisfaction at this time, she took the invitation letter handed by the assistant and read it carefully.
"What's going on tonight?" Eva read the invitation carefully, and suddenly asked her assistant.
"You're scheduled to attend Citibank's president's birthday party tonight!" The assistant immediately reminded.
"Help me get out of the way, and book me a private room at Smith & ollensky's Steakhouse (Warren Buffett's favorite, where Buffett's lunch is held), and I'm going to have dinner with Mr. Peterson and Mr. Schwartzman tonight!" Eva looked up and said suddenly.
……
Eva's assistant quickly told Blackstone the reply, and Peterson and Schwartzman on the other end of the phone looked at each other and smiled, apparently that Yota's beautiful CEO was tempted.
At seven o'clock in the evening, Schwartzman drove his Cadillac to Smith & ollensky's steakhouse on time with Peterson, they reported their names to the waiter, and soon the two were ushered into the box that Eva had booked, and the two pushed the door in, and saw that Eva had ordered a glass of red wine and was waiting for the two to arrive.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Schwartzman." Eva was wearing a red short-sleeved evening dress, and when she saw the two of them, she immediately got up and shook hands with each other, and when everyone was seated, the three of them each ordered a signature steak and a bottle of '78-year-old Mouton. The waiter made sure that the guests really didn't need anything, and left the box with great interest.
"Thank you, Ms. Eva, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to have dinner with us, and before we get down to business, I'd like to ask you a question, why doesn't Yota Communications accept investment from AT&T?" Peterson first asked the question in his mind directly.
"You know, Mr. Peterson, we at Yota are a company that grew out of the Harvard campus, and a large percentage of our early investors and employees were faculty and students from Harvard and MIT. We didn't expect Yota to become what it is today. So when the first profit was made, the company's shareholders transferred part of the company's accounts overseas in order to avoid taxes, so ......" Eva casually found an excuse to put the blame on the Harvard alumni. Even if Peterson had told this lie, he would not have been able to see through it, because he would not have reported it to the IRS, nor could he have asked Harvard alumni of status and status to verify it. However, this kind of thing does not violate the laws of the United States, and the current US tax department is not as able to count the foreign income of each taxpayer as it will in the future. So hiding wealth overseas is a common choice for wealthy Americans, and it's understandable that Harvard faculty members don't have access to revealing their vast wealth.
"Alright! Forgive me for being too personal for my question. Ms. Eva, our company hopes to establish a cooperative relationship with your company to help your company tide over the current difficulties! I don't know what you think? Peterson continued.
"But, Mr. Peterson, I wonder what you can do to help us?" Eva asked rhetorically.
"Ms. Eva, this is the greeting gift of our cooperation with Blackstone!" Schwartzman took out a thick stack of documents from his briefcase and put them in front of Eva, Eva slowly took the documents, flipped through a few pages, still confused, and Schwartzman hurriedly explained:
"Ms. Eva, we went through the approximately 20,000 patents filed by Yota Communications in the U.S. Patent Office, and we noticed that since a few years ago, your company has entered the field of networking equipment and its solutions before Cisco, and we have screened about 5,000 patents related to this field and consulted with the most well-known intellectual property law firms in New York. According to our preliminary conclusions, Cisco has similar or even the same technical roadmap as yours in many technologies......"
"You're saying they're copying our patents?" Eva said excitedly.
"No, Ms. Eva, it's up to the judge to decide whether Cisco plagiarizes or not, but I want to say that your technology does a good job of creating a moat that competitors can't cross, but you don't think about it all along." Peterson added with a smile.
"Okay two gentlemen, I really admire you guys, tell me what we're going to do next?" Eva suddenly said with a fighting spirit.
"Ms. Eva, I think your Yota could file a lawsuit in court over the core patents of the network solution, one by one, remember one after the other. As long as you file a lawsuit in court, the lawyer can apply to the court for an injunction on Cisco products, in which case Cisco equipment can no longer be sold publicly in the U.S. market, and AT&T's network plan can only be ......postponed indefinitely," Schwartzman then explained to Eva.
"And then? Then, what should I do......" Eva asked impatiently.
"Lady Eva, let's talk about Yota and Blackstone first! If you are willing to pay $10 million for consulting, we at Blackstone are happy to play the role of white knight in this commercial dispute. Schwartzman reminded him aptly.
